Glad you seem to be feeling better! Working in film I have fallen especially hard for his movies. Working as a colorist I can only dream to get to team up with him on a feature. So happy it’s getting great reviews. Cannot wait for this!!
Very well articulated...I feel the same way about Eggers body of work. Respect him as a filmmaker, but usually struggle to feel emotionally engaged with the material. Look forward to this one!
Good visuals does not a good movie make. This dude is the most overhyped director in all of hollywood. Good cinematography with a boring plot, hollow script and over reliance on shock in place of real horror. This is the last time I pay to see an Eggers certified snoozefest
I think Deep saved a movie that started well but it surprisingly falls apart. I think Eggers hides too much Orlok. And the plot kind of ridiculous how she was left alone at the end.
Well, it did scare me - or rather, it effectively had me horrified for a large part of it.Certainly much more effective emotionally than many recent (good, generally) horror films, so I really don't get why people say they had no emotional investment. I guess it's a person by person issue.
Haven't seen it though - sometimes it feels like the over-impressiveness of the presentation is a distraction from a lack of impressions I get from his film. If the director's job is just to grab a person's attention by the balls, as you said, then this works, but it doesn't grab a hand on my mind, like, for instance, a movie about sexual shame, like for instance, william Friedkin's sexual psychopathology in the Exorcist. In my mind, William Friedkin was the pinnacle of when a gorgeous special effects moves perfectly with an intellectually engaging set of ideas that is what Eggers would like to want his films to be like, but feels like its trying too hard to, whereas Friedkin's intellect is effortless and frictionless in its intellectual focus for the thinking man's movie.
I love the director and his other movies. But this movie is so overhyped. This was not even top 10 films this year. It was maybe even worst list for me. All the beautiful scenes cannot save a bad story.
Yeah I agree with the previous person. It's gothic and aims to be psychologically unsettling and have some visually disturbing scenes. Few jump scares. I don't really watch horror movies and was fine. Everyone's different though, are there things you avoid? Any phobias? Any problems with sexual content? (not a good movie to watch with your parents or with younger kids)
I don't think erasing the actor is something deserving of any praise. I heard they use him practically as a prop. That will hurt the legacy of the film and Skarsgard's as well
Susanna Son responds: Watches over like a God… Also Susanna Son: He is coming… (Regardless of any take on the show, The Idol definitely had some bangers)
Watch the original from 1922 and even the remake from 1979, but I think this version is very unnecessary. I maybe will watch this when it is showing on TV, but I think I will be very disappointed.
As as an auteur filmmaker, Robert Eggers, so far, has skated the borderline territory between historical costume piece, psychological thriller, mythological horror, dramatic character portrait and exploring group dynamics in a superstitious world so excellently well in all of his three movies, and that's not only in story and script, but also in research, production design, costumes, props, lighting, cinematography, editing, and cast. His films are unpredictable, immersive, captivating, intelligent, moody. If there is anyone I would entrust with a second remake of Murnau's Nosferatu, after the congenial Herzog version, it is Eggers. The VVitch, The Lighthouse, The Norseman were original screenplays, although the first two are loosely based on historic events and the third one loosely based on motifs out of Hamlet. I can only hope that Eggers has brought his unique approach to Nosferatu as well and has also added some interesting perspectives, facets, nuances which had not been explored in much detail before.
@@elevenseven-yq4vu Someone who loves Eggers as much as I do and takes him at his terms?Agree with everything. I really wanna know what you thought of Nosferatu - I respect people's opinion being that it was boring, long or trodden ground, but I'm kinda disappointed by how many people don't wanna engage with the movie's context or arbitrarily decide that this particular reimagining of a reimagining of a reimagining is their limit for lack of originality. I'm also sad to see people more and more slam Eggers' eye for accuracy as mere window-dressing when he's been very clear by how it shapes his directorial approach.
Jonathan from TheFilmDrunk the type of guy to say “Easy peasy lemon squeezy” after doing something
TheFilmDrunk is the type of guy to jump to the stratosphere when a jump scare appears on screen
Sometimes you just gotta pop out and show em - Robert Eggers probably
“He is coming”
*So am I*
I've been coming..
Technically speaking it’s a masterpiece… with the most underwhelming story it could’ve been
That opening line is a 10/10

AUSTIN BURKE JUMPSCARE!! ❤

Seconded!

Just finished re watching the lighthouse
The ball comment was hilarious lol
Disappointment
What is your shirt/jacket you’re wearing?
Dissapointment
This was the best made mid film I’ve ever seen
It was good production overall. His orlak was very disappointed. At times I had no clue what he was saying and the movie should of been a lot shorter
Good review
Why not the other .5?
He’s going to be the Scorsese of horror 🙏🙏😭
Masterpiece
Disappointed with it. If you have seen bran stokers Dracula then you have seen this.
Loved it would rather watch this than the pieces of shit that is in theaters now, wicked and gladiator 2.
Disappointing
Masterpiece
Was it truly terrifying?
No movie is truly terrifying unless you're a kid !!!! Adults don't get terrified of a movie

Don't care how pretty the movie looked, it was boring

I mean it's the same story as the Bram Stroker one which follow the Dracula novel
Did you get drunk mate
I must have watched a totally different movie, lmao 😂
Are you Japanese American?
Never trusting screening reviews ever again. Everyone kept praising it over the last month. I came in with huge expectations. The movie was dog shit
How scary is it? I'm bad with horror
It has a general level of creepiness throughout and a couple jump-scares. If you can handle graphic images you should be fine

@@kookiekommenter I'm just really really bad with jump scares, I don't mind the other stuff

Well…that turned out to be my favorite film of the year.
Jordan peele has made only 1 good movie GET OUT. He is overrated
I agree 😅
Totally agree@@murdockfiles9406
Get out as his only good movie? That’s a “NOPE” from me.
Stop the 🧢
Of course you hate on the black director.

Don't agree at all. Nosferatu and the Dracula story in general is a classic for a reason, I welcome new takes on it.
