    I made these using your recipe and it immediately transported me back to my childhood! My mom gave me a tip - if using banana leaf, squeeze a lime into the boiling water you use to steam your cakes (throw the lime peel in too!). You don’t taste or smell any of it on the cakes, but it’ll help your banana leaves with any dirty smell it might have :)

    Hi Trang, did you use a whole pack of 500g glutinous rice flour? I used the equivalent of 1 pound which is 453g but it seems way more wetter than your dough. Thanks!

    My grandma used to make a version with filling inside of the cake, usually with dried shrimp and chayote. I'm trying to figure out what that dish is called. I'm not sure if it's a vietnamese dish since she lived in Laos, but it looks very similar to yours, minus the pork and second cake. Have you ever made one with filling inside? Would the steaming process be the same?

    • @RunAwayRice
      @RunAwayRice  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stephanie, your grandmother's cake sounds more like a dumpling. Did it also have a really chewy texture or just slightly chewy? What you are describing sounds like the Vietnamese sticky/glutinous rice dumplings "Banh It Tran" with a meat and vegetable filling. Google this and let me know if this look what your grandma made.

    • @stephanieh7295
      @stephanieh7295 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +RunAwayRice Thanks for the reply! Yes it looks very similar to that but more flat. It's a very chewy and sticky texture. I found this blog post that resembles it the most but it doesn't have the right filling. It's close enough for me. Thanks for the help! weasleydumplings.wordpress.com/2014/06/08/steamed-sticky-rice-dumplings-with-pork-and-shrimp/

    I make my own rice flour at home but when I try to make rice cake or dango it wont work 😠 It's not chewy it's more like it's not fully cooked from the inside . I've tried to boil em but it's always the same problem 😡😧
    p.s I've used the store rice flour it wont work too. help me 😵

    • @RunAwayRice
      @RunAwayRice  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, double check you're using glutinous rice flour as the main ingredient and not rice flour. (There's just 2 Tbsp rice flour in the recipe.) They are similar looking ingredients but produce very different textures.
