I'm very much looking forward to this game. I found the previous two to just be pure fun to play. Those accessibility options you mentioned are a big win for me too. I have a health condition that causes my joints to be stiff and painful at random times for random durations(can last 10minutes at a time, can last 10 hours or anything between), not enough to stop me playing but it does slow my reactions from where they are normally. Having options to adjust the dodge/parry timings will be glorious, because otherwise I can handle the difficulty, I just need a little longer to react(or slightly larger precise timing windows) for times when my hands are bad. I wish more games would add that type of accessibility option. Most games they just have a difficulty slider that lowers damage etc, I still get hit but it just doesn't matter as much, this can trivialise the game for me which is not what I want or need. I just need a bit more time to react to twitch reactions like dodges/parries.

Looks so good. Very casual fan of Spider-Man but the original game and the Arkham series are amazing no matter how much of a super hero person you are. Love that it’s more Peter Parker focused, has a good performance mode, good upgrades etc. overall, looks like everything id want as a fan of the original. That metacritic score also shows this is a classic game. No doubt I’ll be playing 100% of this game.

Exactly. Don't know why companies won't release $10-20 dlc to add procedural open-world content so that people can play this even after the story. The world is there, the gameplay is great, why abandon it! These games deserve more contenet to play until the next one comes out.

which is awesome! loved my time with the first game, but as a batman fan, the combat lacked the weight the arkham series had. need to get my hands on a ps5 soon!
The side activities became really annoying to me in the first game, after I got to the middle of the main plot or so. But one could argue that this is what Spider-Man is all about, although in an exaggerated manner, I suppose (I don't live in New York, maybe it is the Wild East like that). Maybe it would've been nice if those side activities died down somewhat because of the impact of Spider-Man's actions to counteract them. Then it would equally be believable if the criminal activities spiked again when Spider-Man is too distracted or if he's feeling down for whatever reason.

My biggest problem with all the new Spiderman games has always been the very Ubisoftesque open world check box side activities, are the side activities actually interesting, fun, and organic or are the same boring checklist?
Your biggest problem with a game you haven't played yet? Lol Just try it and find out. Up until recently spiderman was available for psplus. I am sure you can find some used copies for pretty cheap.
It definitely feels less like doing a checklist. There isn't any "stop X number of crimes in this district" challenges. They also did away with the benchmarks. There is definitely still some of it, but all of the lists are essentially their own side story line.
as someone who played the first game and Miles both for the first time just back in October last year and played both on the 120Hz fidelity mode, that 120Hz fidelity option should be a standard. I can't think of a single instance in either game where it did not feel like I was playing on full performance mode, but got all the benefits of fidelity. Remarkable
I played both on 120hz vrr performance mode. 40fps in quality on 120vrr is lightyears ahead of 30, but it doesn't beat 60-100fps for smoothness. Fyi I have a very low tolerance for 30fps, I paid for uncharted legacy and Spiderman remastered even though free on Sony premium to get the 60fps bcus I 30fps is way too choppy when swinging and camera panning and hard to control well.
It's a nice option. Though it does make sense that it isn't very standard since only a small fraction of the players can use the feature. To me 40fps is quite a bit better than 30. I've used 40 mode a couple times in a couple games. But I can definitely still feel choppy-ness compared to 60+fps. I do hope the 40fps mode does become more standard though.

Bit of a shame that they didn't much improve the open world activities from the first game and Miles Morales, but considering at which speed they pump out these games in insanely high quality it is no suprise. I mean, don't get me wrong, the side content was never bad, it's definitely serviceable but if there's a 3rd game I hope they come up with something fresh and new.
I’m a bit gutted the side acts are the same and the animations look recycled, but 2.5 titles in like the best chunk of 6 years isn’t milking it like say the AC series :)
I think those weaknesses mentioned, especially the side missions being repetitive are honestly an issue with ALL open world games. While I agree. Its unfortunately the way many open world games are. I think maybe the Arkham games did it best in that therre was detective game play that were are nice lore bombs and references to other villains and people. Instead of generic burglars or thieves like we see here.
That is not inherently true. Plenty of non-open world games that have sidequest that aren't good. And naturally some of the best games I've played MMO's, have some of my favorite side quests. It's just developers, etc don't know how to design good side quest.
That is not true, Arkham Knight had an excellent format of fully fledged side stories that would unfold across multiple missions. Each side story had its own villain and was a self contained story. That should be the model for games going forward.
I'm usually not a fan of open worlds, because they are typically fillers and time-wasters between the fun parts of the game. The same is true for Spider-Man 1 and Miles Morales, you do the side-missions a couple times to see what's there (which isn't much) and then you swing over to the next main mission. HOWEVER, I will say that the open worlds in Spider-Man really shine *during* a main mission. Swinging and zipping around New York feels incredible when you are chasing a rampaging boss across the city or racing to save someone's life. Those moments are when the open world makes sense to me.
"And local prisons hold people about as well as a building just made of doors" This painted a really interesting picture in my head, such a unique description, that's why you're a cut above the rest.
Great review every other person have said the good about the game but doesn't mentions the bad parts but you do so thanks also it's sad that the random crimes that pop up are the same as the first game how many time do i need to stop criminals from stealing cars come on 😒 but aside from that can't wait to play the game.
I'm noticing a lot of the same animations from the first and miles game, which dissapoints me. I was hoping for new animations to keep combat and traversing feel fresh
If the roleplaying is where it's at, then Spiderman seems like the perfect hero game to add an option to talk with the "bad guys" like in SMT. Maybe the focus or slomo gauge could be activated to open a few dialogue options and the slomo would auto-protect. If talk success, peaceful resolution. If not, the flow of combat wasn't interrupted. This one is free.
There’s nothing repetitive about getting to be Spiderman taking on bad guys chasing cars or finding hidden items throughout the games map. Never felt forced into doing anything within both games (Spiderman - Miles). My feeling was more luck having the opportunity to live out my superhero dreams.

I love watching boxing and MMA because there are so many people who have technical skills necessary to win fights, and then you have guys who are physically different and can cheat so to say. Floyd played keepaway in many matches because he had unusually long arms and fast feet, where Manny has big calf muscles and could dart in and out. Roy jones literally left his chin untouched and could ambush you easily. So when you ask the question of what game do I like more in terms of fighting? I’ll always choose Spider Man. Batman feels very to the letter and athletically limited. Spider-Man feels like someone who would fight based on their own personal thought process to fighting but with powers. Like you aren’t supposed to leave your chin exposed when you box, but what if it didn’t even matter?? What if you could leave your hands down and just punch when needed? Thats what I feel with Spider-Man. If I get caught, it was due to my negligence, and not because I lacked an ability to be a super powered fighter. I can’t wait for this game and I always love your reviews.
The review I was waiting for!!! Great review, as always. You're pretty much the only reviewer I ever watch these days (other than for things like cozy games lol). I can't wait for Spidey 2! Replaying through the first one but on the Ps5 is still an absolute blast and I rarely play a game more than once. This an Alan Wake 2 are my most anticipated games of this year!
What about all the controversy behind Mary Jane's face or Peter's anti-gun rant at the beginning of the game? What about Spiderman being overshadowed by Miles every few minutes or all the BIPOC focused sidequests?
One thing that absolutely did my head in with the first one so you'd spend time taking everyone down quietly then at the end a load of goons would just burst through a door and you end up in a fight anyway. Ended up where I couldn't be bothered & just went straight into the fight.
They addressed this issue in their next Spidey game (miles one). You could clear the whole base in stealth and it was so satisfying. In the first game yeah, I feel you. They give you gadgets and moves to be stealthy but then just make you fight anyway. Weird that it was not patched/ removed in the remastered version.
@@Skillet19988 in all honesty I didn't really try it in MM as I just assumed it would be the same. I kindof just blasted through that for the main story without really getting to into much else. Fantastic they've dealt with it though as I thought it was a top game otherwise.

Stealth segments were the worst part of the first two games...not sure why they insist on bringing those back. I played the heck out of the first game but never came close to finishing Miles Morales because it felt so stale. Seems like that's going to be the case with this sequel as well.
Stealth parts amazing when you have way more skills. Just put them off. Just get the skill points you need and come back when you have a upgraded Spiderman. They become more fun with all the options you have. I platinum both games.
Another great review as always. Shame about the stealth missions and random crime variety though... Was hoping you'd touch on the web-slinging. It's good, and improved in MM...but still feels less "free" for lack of a better word than SM2, so I was wondering if they'd increased the skill gap
Not sure if you knew but the game has a web swinging assist setting with 10 being similar to the other 2 games and 0 being a lot more physics and skill based. Set it to 0 immediately and if i'm not careful I get stopped multiple times from either swinging too low and hitting the ground or a building. It also drags you towards building you're swinging from a bit.
How’s the stealth in this one?? In the first game outside of “stealth sections” - The stealth in the open city was rubbish, enemy hideouts, are clearly designed to be fights.. once spotted the enemy AI just know where you are no matter where you are - you cannot break line of sight… I thought it was a real shame as stealth as Spiderman was really fun… it felt finally right having that option, as you are not the Hulk. Spiderman has always used his smarts, agility, and speed to overcome highly dangerous situations.

I was just expecting more of a Arkham Asylum to Arkham City level of leap which it seems that this sequel lacks, but its still going to be a lot of fun and i am going to enjoy it a lot.
I really hate the tech/science puzzles, MJ forced stealth missions, i hate that when you walk around the environments as peter Parker all your movement is hampered so you have to walk slowly. You can tell this story in cut scenes just as easily - there is no value in any of it from my perspective. The rest of the gameplay is so good though , lookin g forward to playing this one
This looks like it's the same exact game as the first one. I'm not sure if I'm sold on the graphics either. The first one already looked amazing and was fun. The story was pretty solid. Of course my complaints are the same as with many due to the aweful missions (we all know which ones?). But this second game? I pass.
I played the Ultimate Spider-man game on the GameCube back in the day. Playing as Venom was brutal fun. Jumping a hundred yards at a time, folding police officers over backwards. Completely different from Spidey. Here's hoping we get some of that with Insomniac down the roadm
Honestly, Spider-Man and GOW Ragnorak have been the only two games that made me consider picking up a PS5 this generation. Then I see what the brand is doing in the news. Really I just can’t wait for insomniac to drop Spider-Man 2 on Steam purely for steam deck compatibility. The developers in the studio are gods at optimization. Miles Morales is still one of if not the best optimized game on my steam deck. Really it makes it even more of a joke that the upcoming PS “handheld” isn’t a standalone game system, because Sony really has the talent to work freaking miracles. I have no doubt insomniac couldn’t get Spider-Man 2 running on the Nintendo Switch like a dream.
Good to see the batman arkham series now has a worthy opponent in insomniacs work. Im glad this game knocked it outta the park and i am hyped for this to eventually come to pc, hopefully not after more than 2 years....
Y’know, I’m crazy keen for Spider-Man 2, and though I’m not a regular viewer, some of your insights are really nice. But I have to say, you’ve got a problem with the finer details. It seems like any time I click on one of your videos, there are spelling or grammar mistakes within - or as I just saw in this review, shoddy editing. Actual lines (that you’ve written yourself) cutting off abruptly. I would say this is the professional video editor coming out in me, but frankly I’d notice these things even if I were still in high school. It does your actual writing and skills a great disservice
I totally agree with you. The boss battles in the first game were badass. It's the repetitive missions with the same thugs doing the same thing that were a problem. I also hated the Harry Osborn bullshit missions. I love the first game because the boss battles were really unbelievable. Other side missions not that much.
Yes they say "Best game ever" because they are corporate shills, then they give it an 8/10 because they know even they can't get away with giving it 10/10 even though they would love to do so.
You can choose between having the iron arms abilities or symbiote abilities and mix and match, so if you didn't want the iron arms you can just use symbiote abilities
@@lawrencechew8484no it’s not a suit power. Suit powers are gone in this game. They are abilities that you unlock in the skill tree, and you can choose to not use them at all. You just have to equip the symbiote abilities once you unlock them. You can choose to unequip the arms and if you haven’t unlocked the symbiotic yet. The first mission however, it will force you to use the arms but after you complete it, you can unequip them. Furthermore, both the arms and the symbiote will be integrated into your traversal. You can dash forward really fast or do a forward leap via the arms and/or the symbiote. That you can’t turn off. If I were you, I would equip just the symbiote powers if you don’t wanna deal with the arms.
Got it! So it's the same 6~7/10 for me as the previous entries! Honestly I'll pass! There's was just too much bloat on the previous games compared to the real meat and potatoes story missions and boss fights. I really wish the devs stopped copying and pasting the same side activities like 20, 30, 40 times and focused on adding more story missions! There's just so many times that you can chase a vehicle, take some pictures, finding backpacks, help Harry's research, fight foes on some arena/robbery location, before it gets boring. It's indeed fun the first few time but I'm pretty sure more than 70% of the game hours are spent doing this crap so instead of a really good 10~16h game we get a 35~40h+ slog! Don't get me wrong ACG, I love your reviews! It's just that this games are really overrated and overstay their welcome and that many hours could be better spent with more fun stuff than what they give us.
It seems this game improved on many aspects of the first game like bosses, qtes, enemy variety, combat and gadgets, web slinging and traversal, graphics and animations but failed to improve on the open world design. The repetitive structure of the side quests and infinite grinding is still in this game like the first one. That was my only grip with the first game as well. Still not every game can reinvent the wheel on the open world design. There are only a couple of games who managed to do this like Elden Ring, Zelda and Red Dead Redemption 2. These games established a new way to approach open world design without the need of a bloated repetitive structure just to add more content in the game, like 95% of open world games. Despite all that I strongly believe this is worthy of a game of the year nomination bare minimum. It's a well polished and improved sequel. Top 4 games of 2023 easily along with Zelda, Baldur's Gate 3 and RE4 Remake
Going to buy this but to be Completely honest, something something about this game still feels like Expansion to the first game..... The new combos are cool. But how fast are we going to get tired from seeing the Same pre rendered finishing those animations... I'm about playing a game more than watching it Well we shall see hoping for the best
While I loved my time with the first, I'm just not interested in playing a slightly improved version of the same thing when I have so many other new and different games I want to play in my backlog. Especially since this is another long game with tons of content. Glad it turned out great though, not that I'm surprised with it being Insomniac.
Sounds like they made Peter less important if you can just swap them around as you want. Miles shouldn't be Peter's equal. WTF is this? Peter Parker is Spiderman. Miles Morales is Miles Morales.

I got to play it from a friend who got early access. Id say its similar, the foundation is the same, and the formula used is very familiar, but i wouldnt say its the same. It doesnt look it but it feels very different
That giant L1 + R1 everywhere is laugable stupid. Like people can't rememeber a button combination with a colored ring or something else that gives a hint for an action. But looks like a great dlc though.
My MAIN ISSUE with Spider-Man 2 is….its being released too damn close to my all time favorite franchise. Alan Wake and AW2. I will no doubt be purchasing Spider-Man, I just don’t know if I will have enough time to beat it before AW2. Regardless, hope everyone enjoys themselves in insomniacs world! GLHF all!
Is the combat as janky as the first game is what I'd like to know. It was fun, sure, but you'd often take damage through no fault of your own. Like mid-finisher animation or from a punch you already dodged.
The combat seems to be exactly the same, with a couple more options. Which I'm not a big fan of. The combat comes off as super floaty. No real impact unless you do a takedown.
The random crimes I felt were repetitive, however it didn't both me enough to keep me from playing fully through it to platinum it on both PS4 & PS5. I didn't load my save for an easy platinum, I played it through the whole way.
I was waiting for this review to determine if i wanted to grab it right away. Now the only worry i have is does Peter lose his symbiote powers after Venom splits off him. It makes sense but also would stink cuz the powers look cool.
@@error_idiot8329It’s hard to answer that without spoiling the story. But yes you can use the symbiote abilities after losing the symbiote and before and after the story is completed. HOWEVER, you will not be able to access or use the symbiote abilities for a little while, until something big happens towards the end of the story and you’ll be able to use them again.

@@aroccoification There's a swing assist slider. Turn it down to Zero. You get the most realistic swinging in a Spider-Man game ever. Turn on fall damage while you're at it. Do a loop-de-loop, slingshot, whatever you want dude. But yea, they knew kids were gonna be playing so they had to make it somewhat easy.

It's so weird that she works for Jameson as a journalist Harry isnt venom obviously and he's a bigger dork than Peter in the comics and shouldn't be cool and handsome like he is And Peter is really only a dork in highschool. He's supposed to be kind, suave, handsome and have a bit of a chip in his shoulder while also being very neurotic on the inside That and spiderman has a big heart but the comics even in the 60s were never sappy and cutesy like these games are

Repetition is there, but it is streamlined and short enough that it doesnt stick out as much. Crimes not being included in comoleting the districts was a great call for example
6:29 Ok it’s not just me. I feel like the movement can be maddening clumsy. I’m trying to chase a car and the wings close. Or an obstacle breaks my momentum. Neither 1 or MM felt so irritating.
In regard to the note about repetition, I think there’s a discussion to be had about the frequency of actions taken in game and the momentum of play. One must ask if you’re playing a game like this in a condensed setting of just a couple of weeks will you get the same sense of repetitiveness versus spaced out diverse play.
Also, at what point is a game too repetitive as opposed to a gamer just simply going through the game’s natural loop? Especially when one can choose what part of that loop to engage in. For example, seeing a lot of carjacking missions in a 20 minute sitting because you’re exclusively waiting “random” city crimes to pop up and the game keeps rolling the carjacking mission isn’t a knock to the game’s overall repetitiveness or even side missions repetitiveness. Because in that case, the gamer is engaging in part of the loop that is rather unnatural (for a first playthrough anyway) and is experiencing an unnatural sense of repetitiveness.
Repettitive is repetitive regardless of how you want to dress it up. Spiderman 1 and miles morales were good games when it comes to combat, Web slinging and storey. The side missions however are all Repettitive filler and incredibly boring. It's a shame that spiderman 2 hasn't fixed this.

Love that it’s more Peter Parker focused, has a good performance mode, good upgrades etc. overall, looks like everything id want as a fan of the original. That metacritic score also shows this is a classic game. No doubt I’ll be playing 100% of this game.

The problem I had with the first game was the lame side missions. Not all but some. As long as they made them better I'm happy❤️🔥
The side activities became really annoying to me in the first game, after I got to the middle of the main plot or so. But one could argue that this is what Spider-Man is all about, although in an exaggerated manner, I suppose (I don't live in New York, maybe it is the Wild East like that). Maybe it would've been nice if those side activities died down somewhat because of the impact of Spider-Man's actions to counteract them. Then it would equally be believable if the criminal activities spiked again when Spider-Man is too distracted or if he's feeling down for whatever reason.
That empty satisfaction you get when you beat a good game and see the credits, it's entirely its own feeling.
Its truly a unique feeling its like "that was amazing but I'll never get to experience it for the first time again" post game depression is real

My biggest problem with all the new Spiderman games has always been the very Ubisoftesque open world check box side activities, are the side activities actually interesting, fun, and organic or are the same boring checklist?

Just try it and find out. Up until recently spiderman was available for psplus. I am sure you can find some used copies for pretty cheap.
It definitely feels less like doing a checklist. There isn't any "stop X number of crimes in this district" challenges. They also did away with the benchmarks.
There is definitely still some of it, but all of the lists are essentially their own side story line.

MJ gameplay is such a drag in both 1 and 2. IDC
as someone who played the first game and Miles both for the first time just back in October last year and played both on the 120Hz fidelity mode, that 120Hz fidelity option should be a standard. I can't think of a single instance in either game where it did not feel like I was playing on full performance mode, but got all the benefits of fidelity. Remarkable
I played both on 120hz vrr performance mode. 40fps in quality on 120vrr is lightyears ahead of 30, but it doesn't beat 60-100fps for smoothness. Fyi I have a very low tolerance for 30fps, I paid for uncharted legacy and Spiderman remastered even though free on Sony premium to get the 60fps bcus I 30fps is way too choppy when swinging and camera panning and hard to control well.
It's a nice option. Though it does make sense that it isn't very standard since only a small fraction of the players can use the feature.
To me 40fps is quite a bit better than 30. I've used 40 mode a couple times in a couple games.
But I can definitely still feel choppy-ness compared to 60+fps.
I do hope the 40fps mode does become more standard though.

Bit of a shame that they didn't much improve the open world activities from the first game and Miles Morales, but considering at which speed they pump out these games in insanely high quality it is no suprise. I mean, don't get me wrong, the side content was never bad, it's definitely serviceable but if there's a 3rd game I hope they come up with something fresh and new.
I’m a bit gutted the side acts are the same and the animations look recycled, but 2.5 titles in like the best chunk of 6 years isn’t milking it like say the AC series :)

I think those weaknesses mentioned, especially the side missions being repetitive are honestly an issue with ALL open world games.
While I agree. Its unfortunately the way many open world games are. I think maybe the Arkham games did it best in that therre was detective game play that were are nice lore bombs and references to other villains and people. Instead of generic burglars or thieves like we see here.
That is not inherently true. Plenty of non-open world games that have sidequest that aren't good. And naturally some of the best games I've played MMO's, have some of my favorite side quests. It's just developers, etc don't know how to design good side quest.
Skyrim would like to have a word. One of the few games where the side quests are actually much better and more interesting than the main quest
That is not true, Arkham Knight had an excellent format of fully fledged side stories that would unfold across multiple missions. Each side story had its own villain and was a self contained story. That should be the model for games going forward.

I'm usually not a fan of open worlds, because they are typically fillers and time-wasters between the fun parts of the game. The same is true for Spider-Man 1 and Miles Morales, you do the side-missions a couple times to see what's there (which isn't much) and then you swing over to the next main mission. HOWEVER, I will say that the open worlds in Spider-Man really shine *during* a main mission. Swinging and zipping around New York feels incredible when you are chasing a rampaging boss across the city or racing to save someone's life. Those moments are when the open world makes sense to me.
"And local prisons hold people about as well as a building just made of doors" This painted a really interesting picture in my head, such a unique description, that's why you're a cut above the rest.
Great review every other person have said the good about the game but doesn't mentions the bad parts but you do so thanks also it's sad that the random crimes that pop up are the same as the first game how many time do i need to stop criminals from stealing cars come on 😒 but aside from that can't wait to play the game.

If the roleplaying is where it's at, then Spiderman seems like the perfect hero game to add an option to talk with the "bad guys" like in SMT. Maybe the focus or slomo gauge could be activated to open a few dialogue options and the slomo would auto-protect. If talk success, peaceful resolution. If not, the flow of combat wasn't interrupted. This one is free.

There’s nothing repetitive about getting to be Spiderman taking on bad guys chasing cars or finding hidden items throughout the games map. Never felt forced into doing anything within both games (Spiderman - Miles).
My feeling was more luck having the opportunity to live out my superhero dreams.

I love watching boxing and MMA because there are so many people who have technical skills necessary to win fights, and then you have guys who are physically different and can cheat so to say. Floyd played keepaway in many matches because he had unusually long arms and fast feet, where Manny has big calf muscles and could dart in and out. Roy jones literally left his chin untouched and could ambush you easily.
So when you ask the question of what game do I like more in terms of fighting? I’ll always choose Spider Man. Batman feels very to the letter and athletically limited. Spider-Man feels like someone who would fight based on their own personal thought process to fighting but with powers. Like you aren’t supposed to leave your chin exposed when you box, but what if it didn’t even matter?? What if you could leave your hands down and just punch when needed? Thats what I feel with Spider-Man. If I get caught, it was due to my negligence, and not because I lacked an ability to be a super powered fighter. I can’t wait for this game and I always love your reviews.

Replaying through the first one but on the Ps5 is still an absolute blast and I rarely play a game more than once. This an Alan Wake 2 are my most anticipated games of this year!
What about all the controversy behind Mary Jane's face or Peter's anti-gun rant at the beginning of the game? What about Spiderman being overshadowed by Miles every few minutes or all the BIPOC focused sidequests?
I have zero interest in playing Spider-man with magic power. Or spider-man with venom powers. Or spider-man using a mech suit. I just want spider-man.
SM2 probably wont be GOTY with BG3 and TOTK around, but it will be the most fun game I play this year. Love the combat in the first 2 games.

One thing that absolutely did my head in with the first one so you'd spend time taking everyone down quietly then at the end a load of goons would just burst through a door and you end up in a fight anyway. Ended up where I couldn't be bothered & just went straight into the fight.
They addressed this issue in their next Spidey game (miles one). You could clear the whole base in stealth and it was so satisfying. In the first game yeah, I feel you. They give you gadgets and moves to be stealthy but then just make you fight anyway. Weird that it was not patched/ removed in the remastered version.
@@Skillet19988 in all honesty I didn't really try it in MM as I just assumed it would be the same. I kindof just blasted through that for the main story without really getting to into much else. Fantastic they've dealt with it though as I thought it was a top game otherwise.

Stealth segments were the worst part of the first two games...not sure why they insist on bringing those back. I played the heck out of the first game but never came close to finishing Miles Morales because it felt so stale. Seems like that's going to be the case with this sequel as well.
Stealth parts amazing when you have way more skills. Just put them off. Just get the skill points you need and come back when you have a upgraded Spiderman. They become more fun with all the options you have. I platinum both games.

Depends the player I guess. Others loved the stealth missions. Meh idk.
Not sure if you knew but the game has a web swinging assist setting with 10 being similar to the other 2 games and 0 being a lot more physics and skill based. Set it to 0 immediately and if i'm not careful I get stopped multiple times from either swinging too low and hitting the ground or a building. It also drags you towards building you're swinging from a bit.
How’s the stealth in this one??
In the first game outside of “stealth sections” - The stealth in the open city was rubbish, enemy hideouts, are clearly designed to be fights.. once spotted the enemy AI just know where you are no matter where you are - you cannot break line of sight…
I thought it was a real shame as stealth as Spiderman was really fun… it felt finally right having that option, as you are not the Hulk.
Spiderman has always used his smarts, agility, and speed to overcome highly dangerous situations.

I was just expecting more of a Arkham Asylum to Arkham City level of leap which it seems that this sequel lacks, but its still going to be a lot of fun and i am going to enjoy it a lot.

I really hate the tech/science puzzles, MJ forced stealth missions, i hate that when you walk around the environments as peter Parker all your movement is hampered so you have to walk slowly. You can tell this story in cut scenes just as easily - there is no value in any of it from my perspective. The rest of the gameplay is so good though , lookin g forward to playing this one
This looks like it's the same exact game as the first one. I'm not sure if I'm sold on the graphics either. The first one already looked amazing and was fun. The story was pretty solid. Of course my complaints are the same as with many due to the aweful missions (we all know which ones?). But this second game? I pass.
The changes they’ve made to Miles since he first appeared in the comics is crazy.
Hope to get some Carnage in the future. Also hope we get to play as Venom when that happens.
I played the Ultimate Spider-man game on the GameCube back in the day. Playing as Venom was brutal fun. Jumping a hundred yards at a time, folding police officers over backwards. Completely different from Spidey. Here's hoping we get some of that with Insomniac down the roadm

Honestly, Spider-Man and GOW Ragnorak have been the only two games that made me consider picking up a PS5 this generation. Then I see what the brand is doing in the news. Really I just can’t wait for insomniac to drop Spider-Man 2 on Steam purely for steam deck compatibility. The developers in the studio are gods at optimization. Miles Morales is still one of if not the best optimized game on my steam deck. Really it makes it even more of a joke that the upcoming PS “handheld” isn’t a standalone game system, because Sony really has the talent to work freaking miracles. I have no doubt insomniac couldn’t get Spider-Man 2 running on the Nintendo Switch like a dream.

Y’know, I’m crazy keen for Spider-Man 2, and though I’m not a regular viewer, some of your insights are really nice. But I have to say, you’ve got a problem with the finer details. It seems like any time I click on one of your videos, there are spelling or grammar mistakes within - or as I just saw in this review, shoddy editing. Actual lines (that you’ve written yourself) cutting off abruptly. I would say this is the professional video editor coming out in me, but frankly I’d notice these things even if I were still in high school. It does your actual writing and skills a great disservice

I totally agree with you. The boss battles in the first game were badass. It's the repetitive missions with the same thugs doing the same thing that were a problem. I also hated the Harry Osborn bullshit missions. I love the first game because the boss battles were really unbelievable. Other side missions not that much.

You can choose between having the iron arms abilities or symbiote abilities and mix and match, so if you didn't want the iron arms you can just use symbiote abilities
@@lawrencechew8484no it’s not a suit power. Suit powers are gone in this game. They are abilities that you unlock in the skill tree, and you can choose to not use them at all. You just have to equip the symbiote abilities once you unlock them. You can choose to unequip the arms and if you haven’t unlocked the symbiotic yet. The first mission however, it will force you to use the arms but after you complete it, you can unequip them. Furthermore, both the arms and the symbiote will be integrated into your traversal. You can dash forward really fast or do a forward leap via the arms and/or the symbiote. That you can’t turn off. If I were you, I would equip just the symbiote powers if you don’t wanna deal with the arms.

Honestly I'll pass! There's was just too much bloat on the previous games compared to the real meat and potatoes story missions and boss fights.
I really wish the devs stopped copying and pasting the same side activities like 20, 30, 40 times and focused on adding more story missions! There's just so many times that you can chase a vehicle, take some pictures, finding backpacks, help Harry's research, fight foes on some arena/robbery location, before it gets boring.
It's indeed fun the first few time but I'm pretty sure more than 70% of the game hours are spent doing this crap so instead of a really good 10~16h game we get a 35~40h+ slog!
Don't get me wrong ACG, I love your reviews! It's just that this games are really overrated and overstay their welcome and that many hours could be better spent with more fun stuff than what they give us.
It seems this game improved on many aspects of the first game like bosses, qtes, enemy variety, combat and gadgets, web slinging and traversal, graphics and animations but failed to improve on the open world design. The repetitive structure of the side quests and infinite grinding is still in this game like the first one. That was my only grip with the first game as well. Still not every game can reinvent the wheel on the open world design. There are only a couple of games who managed to do this like Elden Ring, Zelda and Red Dead Redemption 2. These games established a new way to approach open world design without the need of a bloated repetitive structure just to add more content in the game, like 95% of open world games. Despite all that I strongly believe this is worthy of a game of the year nomination bare minimum. It's a well polished and improved sequel. Top 4 games of 2023 easily along with Zelda, Baldur's Gate 3 and RE4 Remake

While I loved my time with the first, I'm just not interested in playing a slightly improved version of the same thing when I have so many other new and different games I want to play in my backlog. Especially since this is another long game with tons of content. Glad it turned out great though, not that I'm surprised with it being Insomniac.

It was fun, sure, but you'd often take damage through no fault of your own.
Like mid-finisher animation or from a punch you already dodged.
The combat seems to be exactly the same, with a couple more options. Which I'm not a big fan of.
The combat comes off as super floaty. No real impact unless you do a takedown.

The random crimes I felt were repetitive, however it didn't both me enough to keep me from playing fully through it to platinum it on both PS4 & PS5. I didn't load my save for an easy platinum, I played it through the whole way.
I was waiting for this review to determine if i wanted to grab it right away. Now the only worry i have is does Peter lose his symbiote powers after Venom splits off him. It makes sense but also would stink cuz the powers look cool.
Considering it’s basically the only new thing, it seems unlikely they would take the venom powers away
no spoilers, but you can use symbiote abilities after the story

@@error_idiot8329It’s hard to answer that without spoiling the story. But yes you can use the symbiote abilities after losing the symbiote and before and after the story is completed. HOWEVER, you will not be able to access or use the symbiote abilities for a little while, until something big happens towards the end of the story and you’ll be able to use them again.
Oh come on!! I watched 20 minutes and not word on its game length, especially when the developers told us it will be as the first game despite the fact the city is twice bigger?!

@@aroccoification There's a swing assist slider. Turn it down to Zero. You get the most realistic swinging in a Spider-Man game ever. Turn on fall damage while you're at it. Do a loop-de-loop, slingshot, whatever you want dude.
But yea, they knew kids were gonna be playing so they had to make it somewhat easy.

Spiderman 3 seriously needs work... The stories have been too shallow and cutesy, Peter, Harry and MJ aren't much like the comics at all, the swinging/flying is more or less automated

Harry isnt venom obviously and he's a bigger dork than Peter in the comics and shouldn't be cool and handsome like he is
And Peter is really only a dork in highschool. He's supposed to be kind, suave, handsome and have a bit of a chip in his shoulder while also being very neurotic on the inside
That and spiderman has a big heart but the comics even in the 60s were never sappy and cutesy like these games are

Repetition is there, but it is streamlined and short enough that it doesnt stick out as much. Crimes not being included in comoleting the districts was a great call for example
The title is really isn't saying much. Being a top 5 superhero game isn't hard. Since you are really only competing with Arkham.
miles mysterio suit and peters iron spider suit is my favorite ones of all the suits in the game 🕸️🕸️💯

This is officially my go-to channel for reviews of games I don’t have time to play. Outstanding.
In regard to the note about repetition, I think there’s a discussion to be had about the frequency of actions taken in game and the momentum of play. One must ask if you’re playing a game like this in a condensed setting of just a couple of weeks will you get the same sense of repetitiveness versus spaced out diverse play.
This is what made the first one so good for me. I got the 100% spaced out over a year or so. Always felt fresh to come back to, even now.
Also, at what point is a game too repetitive as opposed to a gamer just simply going through the game’s natural loop? Especially when one can choose what part of that loop to engage in.
For example, seeing a lot of carjacking missions in a 20 minute sitting because you’re exclusively waiting “random” city crimes to pop up and the game keeps rolling the carjacking mission isn’t a knock to the game’s overall repetitiveness or even side missions repetitiveness.
Because in that case, the gamer is engaging in part of the loop that is rather unnatural (for a first playthrough anyway) and is experiencing an unnatural sense of repetitiveness.
Repettitive is repetitive regardless of how you want to dress it up. Spiderman 1 and miles morales were good games when it comes to combat, Web slinging and storey. The side missions however are all Repettitive filler and incredibly boring. It's a shame that spiderman 2 hasn't fixed this.
Yes, somehow some way they beat batman. I didn't even think Arkham Knight could be beaten cause that game was years ahead of its time
