...sigh...this was wonderful. Bruce was So Very Good, and the smiles and silent communication between he and Jerry was captivating. 1991 was a special year for the Dead, especially having to come back together after we lost Brent. ❤❤❤
I saw this tour at Wembley Arena. After seeing Brent Midland live along the West Coast, seeing the new line up was eerie, but perhaps that’s because I was on acid. I had heard of Hornsby, of course. As his tone rolled out - we were flabbergasted, but in deep mourning for Midland. Especially missing his unique voice in higher harmony parts.
I have a friend at work. I'm a 42 year old male and she is a female in her early 20s. She mentioned to me she was having a rough go of things lately. I had no business asking about specifics and with that had little practical advice I could give her. So I gave her one of the best gives one human could give another. She threw off major hippy vibes but had never heard of the dead. This generation! Sheesh. So I recommended she listen to 5/8/77 scarlet-fire. The next day at work she is smiling ear to ear saying " the music is sooo happy! It made me so happy and set me up for a great day!!!!" Today I recommended eyes. No specific eyes. Any eyes. I told her "this band has literally saved countless lives. No other band has the potential to have such an impact on a person in a positive way. I've been through shit in life, and the dead always helped me through" She is a really really sweet person who smiles and treats everyone with respect but it breaks my heart thinking about the kind of "help" or "advice" she must receive sometimes when she reaches out to people. Thank God she has good older female friends who would kill someone who tried to do her harm. But this was my gift- not creepy, no side effects yet potentially life altering in profound ways. If my young hostess friend comes across this message, you have a lot of friends who love you because you are so positive and friendly. You make people's days happier. You deserve the same. Hope this helps- the dishwasher
You would be referring to 3/29/90 w/Branford Marsalis on sax and actually it is the all time greatest Eyes and this one here 6/17/91 is another unbelievable version IMO
This was a GREAT show!!! I was lucky to have been here. Only Eyes opener, EVER, and Hornsby kept teasing Dark Star throughout the entre show. Beautiful night at Giants Stadium...the memories. A lifetime spent with the Dead. Loved it ❤❤❤🎸🎼🍄👋🥰
I went to the Movie Theater last week to see this and the audio quality was absolutely jaw dropping! EVEN This youtube version is also remastered, you can hear Hornsby so prominently in the mix.....you can even hear bobby actually playing! I have never heard the Grateful dead sound so good live. (I was at Giants stadium on this night and it did not sound this good). Its a shame the Dead didn't record all of their shows in 48 track. This is not too be missed
Oh I so agree one thing The Grateful Dead didn't do enough of was professionally record most all of the best concerts, songs etc. Guess it's because they've always been about the Live in Person Experience.
The GD did record all of their shows, at least the board mix. Im sure their are lots of people who can tell you the details but I think they recorded the stereo mix and not the individual channels but o could be wrong.
Bruce and Vince make this song more magical than words can describe! So jazzy!❤️Jerry and Bruce looking at each other around the 11:09 mark…priceless ✌🏼
I absolutely loved Hornsby with the Dead. With that being said I mean his piano and keyboarding talent and NOT the accordion. I was on tour those years when Hornsby filled in after Brent died. Hornsby fit like a hand in a glove with the Dead on Piano /keyboards imho, but I didn't like the accordion with the Dead and when they found Vince, Hornsby went to accordion. I like Vince Welnick but man if you can't have Mydland, Godchaux , or McKernan Hornsby was high & tight. Whoa, excuse my rant🤣
I only ever saw Brent and I thought he was great! My first show was in 1980. Between 1980 and 1984 I saw about a dozen shows :-) so unfortunately I didn’t see these later shows but I just love Hornsby on the keyboard! 😊🎹
@@lauramiller7827 those were great years you saw and with all due respect, Jerry was slipping quite a bit late 80's until his demise. Sometimes it was very hard to watch and listen to. That china had him locked up tight and his diabetes was kicking his ass. Sometimes it was very sad, and at the same time tour got really dark, lots of hard drug use was changing the entire vibe at shows. It was clear the wheels were falling off. Still ...what a ride.
I love all these comments! I wish I could post a picture of my 3 week old that fell asleep on my chest while listening to this. Eyes has always been my favorite.
I'm undoubtedly a Brent's fan, but this version with two sets of keys (Bruce's on fire!) is my favourite. I'm sure this was a very special night for the boys. Love it!
I can still remember 15 year old me and a group of my knucklehead friends walking around shakedown street looking for the goods.... If i close my eyes i can still hear them playing in the background... This was my 1st show and the start of my personal long strange trip with the grateful dead!!!
One of my favorite versions. Jerry’s playing on brilliant display. Bruce undoubtedly had an influence on his style during this era. Instead of playing B minor during the jam, Jerry is heavily playing in the relative major scale (D maj7) which gives a much more jazzy feel. Absolutely beautiful!!

LOVED these shows with Bruce Hornsby. He reminds me of the enchanted child on the cover of the Moody Blues album Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, and Jerry is the magician dangling notes made of crystals.
I was there, and seeing D&C live in Foxborough last month reminded me of this show. It reminded me of it so much I cut myself some Bobby short short cutoffs for myself to enjoy and I love them so much.
I still have my cutoffs (Bobby style) I wore in the 80s & 90s. Thank God we were able to attend those tours, & still can tune in to this very day with Dead & Co. Blessings!
One of my fave Dead songs, such deep imagery! Any show where I heard an Eyes of the World was a blessing!!!🎶💜🎶 What a great summer tour '91 was. So many fabulous venues, so many fantastic shows. Love seeing Bruce on this... how awesome it was having him join the band. What a beautiful, wispy, jamming Eyes of the World! A great recording, audio wise. Brightened my morning! Color me grateful (~);}
I was at this show when they played with Bruce Hornsby - One of the greats. We started in seats in the upper deck of Giants Stadium but (like so many) jumped down onto the field...Managed to work our way up to the front of the crowd to approx 20 feet or so underneath Jerry...If memory serves, it's been 30 years. Nevertheless, as close to the band as you could get. Ran into some college friends who (don't remember seeing me, they were all on god-knows-what drugs...) Easily one of my favorite shows
I get into bands way late and the Dead are no exception, but this live version of this song on that day at Giants Stadium made me realize I had to do far more than just listen to Greatest Hits CDs. This performance still ranks among the top for me.
I can't believe how tight they were so fast! I saw this tour... 2 nights at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton Ontario Canada. This was a fantastic performance. John Solomon of The Hill is The Eyes of The World today. This song means something more to me. 🇨🇦🇺🇸👊

Gosh darn if it didn't take all these 30 years to realize, TRULY what a grin like that from Jerry meant. God Bless you Jerry.
Care to try to put it into words?
No one else puts on a show like the dead
Everybody got a good workout on this one, and Jerry was enjoying Bruce’s piano solos.
Holy hell, I needed this this today. And all this time, I thought the version with the horns was best.
You would be referring to 3/29/90 w/Branford Marsalis on sax and actually it is the all time greatest Eyes and this one here 6/17/91 is another unbelievable version
IMO
This was a GREAT show!!! I was lucky to have been here. Only Eyes opener, EVER, and Hornsby kept teasing Dark Star throughout the entre show. Beautiful night at Giants Stadium...the memories. A lifetime spent with the Dead. Loved it ❤❤❤🎸🎼🍄👋🥰
Yes!! Great show and ever knew ruce was a great jeyiarsist
Simply stunning!! What a beautiful way to start my day!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!
This here is a true story LOL they are playing there ass off, the melody is right on time..
Bruce Hornsby is such a master at both rhythm and lead keyboards. It's difficult to pick a favorite Grateful member but he might be it for me.
I just want to know what's up with Bob Weir and those short shorts
I went to the Movie Theater last week to see this and the audio quality was absolutely jaw dropping! EVEN This youtube version is also remastered, you can hear Hornsby so prominently in the mix.....you can even hear bobby actually playing! I have never heard the Grateful dead sound so good live. (I was at Giants stadium on this night and it did not sound this good). Its a shame the Dead didn't record all of their shows in 48 track. This is not too be missed
What theater did they show this in?
Oh I so agree one thing The Grateful Dead didn't do enough of was professionally record most all of the best concerts, songs etc. Guess it's because they've always been about the Live in Person Experience.
The GD did record all of their shows, at least the board mix. Im sure their are lots of people who can tell you the details but I think they recorded the stereo mix and not the individual channels but o could be wrong.
Beautiful version of Eyes, it transcends the outer limits of music reality. The Dead are like no other band.
I feel very fortunate then ☮️
This was always my favorite era of the Dead despite all the negativity...
Love it!
It was ihave the boc set of this show and was at the show
One of the best LIVE!EYES! EVER!!! Heart singing, body dancing!❤!!! My Men!!
Every show and every Jerry Garcia band show should have been videotaped it is all priceless material.
Love and miss Vince. I know so many have opinions but you truly are missed and had so much talent.
Jerry just plays so beautifully and this is so relaxing to enjoy listening to. Definitely one of my favorite Dead songs.
Wake up to find out You are the eyes 👀 of the world ,💀👁️❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍♥️✨💥💞 🙌🏻🙌🏿🙌🏾🙌🏼🙌 music runs through all of us mind body and soul! Thank you ONE MORE TIME!!!! GRATEFUL FOR REAL LIFE!!! SO FORTUNATE ❤️💓🥰
Brilliant, stunning interplay between Garcia and Hornsby. Just wow.
Miss this band. Miss the shows. Miss the whole thing. But for 15 minutes here, I was back on the bus!
This video blew us away on "In Concert '91". Show opener too.
This was the opener ???????
@@edwintroy6957 Yes a very rare opening song, for any GD era.
I was at this show, and it was terrific.
My first dead show. So damn good.
LOVED these shows with Bruce Hornsby. He reminds me of the enchanted child on the cover of the Moody Blues album Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, and Jerry is the magician dangling notes made of crystals.
haha Bruce’s eyes definitely look like that kid on the Moodies cover
10 years of my life to see and hear the people of my journey. The best learning education which could have received to anyone. Thank you Jerry.
Blessings!
I was lucky enough to be right up front stage , what a great concert that was. Great memories.
One of my fave Dead songs, such deep imagery! Any show where I heard an Eyes of the World was a blessing!!!🎶💜🎶 What a great summer tour '91 was. So many fabulous venues, so many fantastic shows. Love seeing Bruce on this... how awesome it was having him join the band. What a beautiful, wispy, jamming Eyes of the World! A great recording, audio wise. Brightened my morning! Color me grateful (~);}
I agree 100 percent. Great venues. Great music. My favorite era for sure
Alpine Wisconsin awesome
I love when Phil is on and turned up in the mix. Be of the best eyes I ever heard
I jumped off the wall onto the field right when chord one hit. GREAT show.
Best skull toy ever. Thank you!!!
One of their best songs 4 sure
I miss this so much
I was at this show when they played with Bruce Hornsby - One of the greats. Ran into some college friends who (don't remember seeing me, they were all on god-knows-what drugs...) Easily one of my favorite shows
By Far one of the best bands I have ever seen on this planet earth. Your band will give us More Music and Songs for ever !!!!
Wow, another absolutely amazing show!! Long live the Dead 💀 ❤️🎶
Got to love the musicianship 👍🎸🎸
I get into bands way late and the Dead are no exception, but this live version of this song on that day at Giants Stadium made me realize I had to do far more than just listen to Greatest Hits CDs. This performance still ranks among the top for me.
What a way to start a show. I was there and have the box set.great show they did dark star
I was at that show and this great box st, great show
I can't believe how tight they were so fast! I saw this tour... 2 nights at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton Ontario Canada.
This was a fantastic performance.
John Solomon of The Hill is The Eyes of The World today. This song means something more to me. 🇨🇦🇺🇸👊
They didn’t play Canada this tour
Best song ever
The DEAD ALWAYS HAD a way of making songs come alive here's proof
Love this song & album when it first came out!💙
Masterpiece.
I was there--memorable night in so many ways. TCB.
Jerry had a smile that could light up a room (or a stadium).
It's true a big band could feel in alot
The Dead just found me about 2 weeks ago lol... been familiar for a good 30 years though
Man this is beautiful! Flowers sunshine rainbows colored bears, it all comes together in this
MASTERPIECE! 🌻⚘️
This is absolute magic! I know it's probably been said about this performance before, but it bears repeating: Absolute magic!
you have never lived till you have been to a dead concert & thi is allthat you get now long live JERRY
