Power should be 50/50. Half from 5 cylinders and second half from other 5 cylinders
100% 👍
W comment
Bro won the internet🎉
I don’t even care much about that v10s. But this comment was too good not to thumbs up.
Absolutely correct
Screaming old fashioned V10 with zero emission fuel be good rather than heavy batteries with rubbish sound.
They will be using zero emissions synthetic fuel in 2026 anyway. You can have both -- hybrid AND zero emission fuel after all.
F1 is going to be identical to Formula E by 2030... RIP.
Road relevance is dead. I reckon we'll go back to fullly ICE's by 2030. It's what the sport needs.
@@Jongo1 one can dream...
Craig Slater isn't an F1 expert. He's a generic sports news broadcaster, he'd be just at home talking about golf.
The F1 cars been slightly smaller is a right direction.
But this fascination with electric power is a backward step in my opinion, I would prefer F1 to be looking at ulternative ways of powering there cars like E fuel and going back to the sound of the engines we use to love hearing.
Battery power is not a clean, green or good for the environment and anyone who truly knows about how it works and the process of making batteries and where that power comes from understands why it's not good.
Great comment.
Only thing I’d add is as of 2026 the ICE portion of the PU will run on 100% sustainable fuel so that should keep the green lobby happy that the next generation of PUs can ditch battery-hybrid components entirely and run a 100% ICE PU running sustainable fuel - we can at least dream.
It s always about money and you have to think about technology, performance. Older ICE engin are unreliable to begin with. And it s not sure if E fuel can be marketable for road cars. Hybrid setup its just unbeatable at this point. Manufacturers wont throw away money for the sake of engine sound if it s not profitable for them.
All this bollocks and they introduce more crappy street races. FIA sleep walking into a fatality.
That's why they want to make the car "smaller", because they can sell F1 to more city circuits.
And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me
That's too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
I was convinced there would be a rear bumper for Anti-Stroll.
Are you going to write this on every video? 😂😂😂
@@zooski1516 Maybe just one or two more. 🙂
What about one at the front to fend off Ocon and one either side to stop KMag?
Dude thinks that comment is hilarious 😂
All f1 cars will be equipped with a rubber band around the whole body, like bumper cars now. They’ll be called Strumpers™️
They should bin the hybrid crap and use V10 engines with biofuel, much much cheaper and lighter too and also sound way better.
F1 biofuel on road cars are marketable, it s possible. If not good bye.
Push to pass is even more ridiculous than DRS
I know what you mean but it equates to the same thing really.
Can it be activated in certain zones like drs? If it can be used anywhere, it could be better
@@netmat04I think only on the straights
How ?
There is no push to pass.
Yeah bullshit that active aero is a sustainability idea. It's needed because the engine isn't powerful enough.
And why do you think the engines aren't powerful enough? Maybe that sustainability issue you mentioned earlier has something to do with it? 🤔
They’ve almost always made cars slower with new regulations, making the cars safer and trying to improve the spectacle. Now that they can do moveable aero safely, it’s time to use it to get rid of the DRS that creates big trains of cars all stuck behind one another.
@@NoMenosControl They need active aero because otherwise the car will be too draggy and therefore they won't even be able to go from the beginning of the straight to the end on a track such as Baku in a normal way. It meant they would run out of energy before the end.
But you do you, if you think it's sustainability then believe what you want to believe.
I like the look of the car, however, the removal of DRS is surprising to me.
It was a temporary feature to increase overtaking
DRS isn't gone the flap in the wing is still there
FIA said is no need using DRS when the car has low drag performance. They estimated 55% drop off from current car so slipstream and DRS aren't effective anymore instead they add overtake mode from engine and flexible wings to compensate.
What people used to call Drs is still there
It's just they changed name and usage
Now all drivers will have "DRS" at front and back. They can use it in all straights.
The new "DRS" is the overtake button to give more power. The driver behind can use it.
Good to see DRS gone. James Vowles said they are concentrating on 2026. Hopefully some of the lower teams might get the edge on the bigger teams.
Pray so
it might be gone but they are replacing it with electrical boost ao what's the difference? unless they allow the drivers use it whenever they want it's not that different no?
There's also active aero so it isn't gone totally
@@Jur1_00in the FIA video they said it can be used anywhere on track, but I assume only when close behind another car. So not like DRS only on straights, but not every car every lap
I thought teams weren't allowed to start development on 2026 until next season
The last person I want to hear explaining any of this is Slater.
It’s not actually Craig, it’s his hands
Someone forcing you to watch?
@@someguy9497 Nope. Which is why I didn't. Got anything else?
I agree the whole vibe is like a football chat show...... Great if you like football style sports coverage but personally not into buzz word bingo woffling
@@xqqqmeyet you're still around here...
Will they run on granola and good vibes? I remember when people still built race cars.
DRS isn’t truly going. It’s just been repurposed and repackaged.
The rear wing flip will be available to use within a designated zone on track set by the FIA.
It won’t have a criteria to use such as -1 sec behind the car in-front.
It’s there for everyone.
What I don’t understand is why they need the driver to press the button to open and close as it’s obviously going to be advantageous for the car to reduce drag on straights, therefore software can open and close it.
Which in my eyes is active aero. Isn’t it?
3 separate regulation changes we have heard 'closer racing' and in all 3 a single team has dominated the championship. So in 2026 we can expect a team to dominate for the next 4 years until 2030 when we turn F1 into a glamourous Formula E.
I think you’re missing the meaning of ‘closer racing’. Since the newest regs came in, cars can follow each other much more closely than before, so that’s closer racing. Also, despite Red Bull dominating, the entire field is closer than it’s ever been.
@@tongy95it just max showing how much he gives from the car perez is average
Perez maybe ‘average’ to you but he’s far closer to Max than Albon or Gasly were! Far closer :)
Ain’t no way all electric ever. We’ll have zero emission fuel options way before and can keep combustion engines alive in F1 racing 🤞
All i need is V10 Sound, i don't care if there are faster, then the old one.
Make them lighter and install soundgenerators😂
I’m guessing you’re the reason car makers now have a function that plays v8/v10/v12 sounds through 1.4ltr car speakers 😂
@@friktionrc Sorry i had to do it, cause i producing the sound for speakers😅♥️
@@pimmelberger9967 😂👍
please stop saying it's a 50/50 hybrid engine. you only have 8.5MJ of electric juice per lap, ie, just 24s of full throttle. The average F1 track has cars going full throttle for more than 2x that long per lap. So it's more like 20-25% of the energy from electricity.
Nothing beats a V10 screaming down the straight. 3L V10 with hybrid power, make it so captain. Oh and 12,000 RPM.
You mean 18 000 rpm
Go back to V8's with sustainable fuels
*ABSOLUTELY AGREE!* On my fantasy, the 2009-2016 cars is the maximum size of the cars, the engine is V8 with sustainable fuel, and still must including the Halo (safety device) plus blown diffuser and the rainbow tyres.
V10s 😍
what a joke "sustainability and fuel mileage"..meanwhile each driver gets into a learjet after each race and burns thousands of gallons of fuel to get to the next race.
Finally something not completely based off "rumors " from skysports lol
Active aero will bring back the problem of Dirty Air.
Wouldn't less downforce on the straights mean less dirty air and overall the cars have less downforce than prior years.
Kinda exactly the opposite. Their solution is pretty much a DRS for front and rear wing on every straight. So while not on straight it is the same disturbance and with it on, much less
Dirty air is an issue in the corners and the car in front with presumably a Monaco wing setup will be producing a lot of dirty air.
I think active aero will also see every team run a similar wing setup now as you can get rid of that drag on the straights now
At least make it a V8
f1 is gunna go into the gutter
Get rid of the electric build and drive them how they were meant to be raced.
Spot on
F1 is unfortunately about business no vintage car charity race.
I watched the FIA video and they said all cars will have drs enabled on straights but the passing will be with the ERS boost. DRS is still around but used differently now.
ERS boost is a recipe for disaster, or at least cheating. At least with DRS, viewers can tell when it is being used.
Mate's, I'm really not sure about the electric DRS...? 😕 I don't want our F1 turning into a video game like formula e?
I wish it was still mechanical as it provides a visual cue as to when it is being used that excites me as a fan.
Kind regards Ben from New Zealand 🇳🇿 😀
So what's the difference between this and the system they now use in the BTCC (and works very well)? Admittedly it's not used in exactly the same way, but it's still a form of hybrid power boost.
only thing i like is smaller cars
Make F1 sustainable by fixing the calendar, not by going electric!
This formula is ludicrous. Who in their right mind decided on this. Active aero, push to pass, multiple drs like systems and 50%ev.
This is a sad day.
I believe it’s fantastic. We need a change because f1 has been boring with current regulation.
BTCC have used push to pass for a few years now.
Interesting to know where F1 is looking at for new ideas. lol
@@fingersTitan I think it's more likely they looked at IndyCar, but could be BTCC as well.
@@SomeGuysTH-camAccount1 I love both BTCC and F1. I don't mind the concept at all. BTCC tinkered with it during the season because it wasn't working correctly and changed boost strengths race by race at times. F1 never has the bottle now to change regs mid season and I fear for the first few seasons could be a mess. We still hear that the DRS is OTT at some tracks and pointless at others. Boosts should be factored track by track and not season by season. BTCC have different amounts for each track.
Americans. That's the audience
F1 gets duller each year. I went to GP races in the late 80s early 90s at their best
We are in 2024 not 80s anymore you know.
@@jonpetter8921 And ?
F1 back in the 70's and 80's was almost as popular as football here in the UK, but the constant introduction of safety features, and fake overtaking aids slowly killed it, and now it is a tiny niche market for a tiny amount of fans.
If they introduced rules stating zero fake overtaking such as no DRS, no Energy Recovery, no push to pass, and no active aero, and simply allowed teams to use double diffusers so the cars could follow each other very closely and allow 'real' overtaking based on skill and bravery, I'm sure F1 could be huge once more.
The average viewer who might watch, is put off by all the fake bs.
Why going 50% eletric? Has anyone in the FIA driven an eletric? It's convenient and powerful in straight line, but that's not for a circuit, the batteries are so heavy
“Less wide”…. Narrower I’d say Craig. 👍
Interesting the shift to sustainable by 2030. Does that include transportation of all teams etc from circuit to circuit?
Looks cool. Looks like the rear wing has gone back to how it used to be 🤔
Wow, that car looks a lot like MP4-20 from the front
As an ex F1 fan I want to see overtaking in races. However, I want to see it because a driver has outsmarted the other, NOT because they have an F1 sanctioned cheat device be it more power, DRS, or whatever. The need to show they are the better driver. When will the FIA realise this?
Nothing more than an overtake boost.
After 1 or 2 rounds the battery will be empty.
So the only energy source will always stay fuel.
Now being reduced to 70kg instead of 110.
Not only recharging will be a problem. If we recover more from only rear axle. Then rear brakes will almost not be in use anymore.
So less temperature in the rear tires equals less grip.
Recovery rates are being doubled. That's massive.
Higher skilled drivers can manage tire temps better than the rest. Your concern will therefore allow the cream to rise to the top.
@@procatprocat9647 Recovery rates doubled? How?
MGU-K (2 now) is connected to the rear wheels. While cars run 70-80% full throttle. And braking energy mainly dissipate through the front carbon brakes.
There's simply no way to use electrical power when there's not enough energy to charge the batteries.
@henriwolbrink @henriwolbrink show your maths.
Demonstrate that the designated recovery rates are not possible.
Demonstrate that the designated recovery rates are not sufficient.
Alternatively go back to your dts.
@@procatprocat9647 How do you want the maths? You simply cannot recover same amount of energy during 20% braking on rear wheels as you need to deploy for full electrical assistance during 70% full throttle. No math needed for that.
@@henriwolbrink9MJ limit means you need to calculate it.
If you were able to do so, you would realise the actual situation.
F1 needs to axe the sustainability with regards to the car performance. Throw out the electric part, let the teams run up to 1200-1400+ HP however they can get there. If anything, run on sustainable fuel. Trying to force the cars into the sustainability box is ruining the sport.
exactly, its about cars being as fast as possible. with drs or no drs, i like a little bit of hybrid but deffo not 50 50
There's 1 great way to make the sport much much more interesting is to make teams to public all of their designs by the end of each year. That way, we push team to innovate much harder, quicker, and bring the group much closer together.
This reminds me of going go karting recently after about 8 years since I last went. General feeling 😪
They look similar to 2004-2007 era of F1 cars, love it
Hopefully they actually check to see if it works this time unlike these current cars
Im quite concered about the lack of drs. The current regs were made to make cars be able to follow and they can still barely overtake with DRS now. Hopefully it wont be a problem
But just plain overtaking was never exciting. Especially with DRS on straights
Wheel to wheel racing through multiple corners is exciting. That's what we need.
Make them lighter. Make the wings smaller and bin the nonsense active aero.
Why not make the tyres as 16 inches. Reduces the weight further.
I love the look from the front. It looks like McLaren MP4-20.
So if the ERS is available to following cars only, what happens if a train forms like we see in many races? If all cars have ERS availability, we may aswell have no ERS availability
Many examples over the years of major rule changes leading to one team absolutely nailing it and everyone else playing catch-up.
Finally no more DRS! Make these cars fun and no cheesy crap. Pray it’s more competitive!
Hahaha... So you've not heard about the z-mode and x-mode then?
Rather than 30 seconds further up the road, Verstappen will be 25 seconds further.
The new push to pass system is just as cheesy as drs was
Bro. Dont you understand pass now button is worse than DRS?
The regulations changing every 5 years, just as any imbalances in performance level out and the field tightens up, is a big issue imo.
Why not change the rules every 10 or so years with meticulous planning into real solutions for issues, but also so that the sliding scale of aero testing time etc. can actually work and tighten the field as intended?
R.I.P F1😢
So what happens when the f1 cars go full electric? How is that going to work with forumla E?
i thought Ford is going in with Redbull???
I'd rather have DRS for overtake than a PlayStation boost button if either are necessary 🙄
So basically they're going back to no ground effect smaller lighter cars but still a stupid gizmo to help drivers overtake.
Front End Looks like 2005 Alonso Renault To me😀
Does the FIA have the ability to see if battery boost is in use now by any of the teams?
We should have a close battle for the title again next year just in time for the regs change and then a couple of years of domination at least by whoever gets the rules right.,
Just me, or does this oddly make the cars look older?
I prefer the look of the current cars, much more futuristic, but prefer the size and weight of the 26 cars.
The change in size is too conservative, but I guess it is necessary because they chose to be more revolutionary in other aspects. I just couldn't help but fear that they've chosen the wrong areas to focus on if the primary objective is better racing
I wish we could hear more from Craig.
Only thing that I think is a bit of an L is active aero, but everything else looks pretty solidly
FANS WANT V8/V10 ENGINE
Cars look good but there will be a lot that changes between now and 2026…
Taken much of the innovation out of it. They want it to be a spec racer with little driver input. Suggest restricting front and rear wing dimensions, delete drs, and reduce the number of street circuits on the calendar. Free up electric-internal combustion ratio for best performance to fuel use as determined by the teams restricted only by fuel type and capacity.
screaming v10s giving you goosebumps miles away
I like the look of the new car. It looks like mid to late 2000's spec at the front and the Rear wing looks like a more traditional wing. I think the 50/50 power split is too much though. I would rather keep DRS than introduce Push to Pass because it is starting to become a bit like IndyCar. The Active Aero is a bit too gimmicky for me.
'The car is 30cm smaller'. Its still too big for tracks like Monaco imo
THANKS ❤
I don’t think they’ll change the cars much. But I do think they are a step in the right direction. What’s frustrating though is Pirelli will continue to make the worst tyres every for the foreseeable future.
I like the design besides ONE thing, active aero. I have disliked DRS since the beginning and active aero is not for racing, imo.
push to pass? are you serious?
why can't they just be allowed to make the fastest car they can build?
Because the racing would be absolutely horrendous.
Because it would just be repeat off 1 team dominate every year & wouldn't have closer racing
@@mcraig yup, 2017 regs basically. They wanted faster cars but inturn created poor airflow, the car behind needed to be 1-2 seconds faster in-order to pass.
And it doesn't help the braking distances are so small it's almost impossible to outbrake someone cleanly.
Honestly, i dont see that many changes vs the current regs. There car we were shown today will not be the car on track by 2026. Remember these regs prototype? All slick and curvy, and now we are back to tons of small cuts and ducts to get the edge.
I dont get why they done away with DRS, they should've doubled down on it and start using it more often bypassing that less than a second crap.
Okay so this is F1's render of the new 2026 car...can't wait to see a certain Mr. Newey come along and design the 2026 car (whichever team that will be at).
So if a driver used to much electricity before a long straight, he might slow down in the middle of it? Sounds a bit dangerous to me. But i like the rest. The hybrid stuff should be scrapped though.
PS: RB is backed by Ford for the engine
If there are movable aero devices, I wonder how the FIA is going to police this? Will there be sensors on the cars to detect possible cheating?
These are still Land yachts!! 10 cm is what 4 inches narrowed. Thats 2 inches a side. For Americans the current racing land yachts are about 1.5 feet shorter and about as wide of chevy HD crew cab short box.
Replacing one manipulated overtaking system for another manipulated overtaking system 🤦♂️
lol this regulations I all over the place really…u want a nimble car, lessen the batteries so the car can be even smaller, lighter and invest in sustainable fuels…..
instead of DRS the car behind should press a button that brakes the car in front. FIA?
What a mess. This is what happens when car manufacturers get involved. Ask the fans what they want before we all head off to sports cars or someone starts a rival series similar to Indy.
Now that we are again finally converging teams they will change the regs again.
It boggles the mind, really.
All the latest rule changes have resulted in one team having a major advantage.
2008-2009
2013-2014
2016-2017 (not as much)
2021-2022
FIA cars are really what is left of the 2026 Andretti cars.
Again no tyre rims??? Noooo
These new rules make you think again but the chassis changes being made by Mercedes. This could be the groundwork for the new era cars.
Don’t care about electric and DRS crap, give us smaller, light, agile, and with a V8 or V10
Just as F1 is getting competitive they are going to change the rules and one team will dominate again 🚫
This is getting ridiculous.
If you want fair and close racing make every team use the same car. Then you’ll find who is the best driver.
You clearly don't understand F1. It's a car engineering sport, the driver is just the star which gives them more views.
@@user-og4pz4sd2j I’ve watched it for 40 years. I understand it well enough. The teams with the most money win no matter what rules they bring in. So if they really want it to be fair they would make them all use the same car.
@@RJAH355 Yep, you don't get it. There is a cost cap now, which means all the teams have the same amount of money to spend. The whole point of F1 is to showcase your engineering abilities for the rules that are set out. If you give them all the car, it's not longer F1. It's a constructors championship, the drivers are there just to engage the public.
@@user-og4pz4sd2j you moron. You think I don’t know how it works. I was being sarcastic cause it never changes no matter what they do. The cost cap is nonsense. So stop talking like your one of the teams.
Hopefully some more topspeed !
Toto is building the engine version of zero side pods.
Mercedes having the dominant engine is overhyped.
Are they cost capping engine development btw??
Does that mean cars will now be able to overtake at Monaco? 🎉🎉
Why get rid of DRS?
I really hate what’s happening to F1
So, if it's a fully sustainable fuel, why are we still using these V6 ICEs? Just give us hybridized V8s again
