I Owed one of these in 1986. 2.2 liter four, inter-cooled turbo, 221 h.p. One of the first cars of the time to come with 17" factory wheels. It would scoot. Base Corvettes came with a 305 c.i. V8 worth about 180 h.p. (sad times for Corvettes) and were much heavier, so I had a little fun with them. Your rendition is grand mate, very close to show room. Just grand !
That is the most realistic looking Daytona I've ever seen! An absolute awsome job. Would love to have it in my collection.

A GEM!!!! When Lesney ceased trading and Universal took the helm of Matchbox, they actually had some exceptional and excellent models that had phenomenally accurate details, and this model is an example. As this and the Dodge Caravan (aka Chrysler Voyager) had some promotional models, I would strongly suspect that Chrysler Corporation (35 years on "Stellantis"!!!) had a hand in the design of the model. Both are exquisite miniatures of then-very-common cars on US and Canadian roads. Unquestionably, the Matchbox Jaguar XJ6 and the Ford Sierra XR4Ti were also designed in strong collaboration with the manufacturers. I had multiple copies of this, but have never used one for a custom as they were of such high quality that they remain mint in all that time.

Great job, perfect color scheme! My Cousin owned a Daytona Turbo that was maroon and silver in 85 and I owned its big Brother which was the Chrysler Conquest in 86, we always joked back and forth about which one was fastest but never found out.

Matchbox Daytona was one of my favourite toy cars when i was a kid.
It was two-tone silver dark metallic red/ maroon, i thought it was just very good looking car, unfortunately it was damaged at some stupid toy car "accident" and didn't survived 😪
Maybe i have to try to find similar one again...

Haha I can’t believe anyone remember that show. I used to watch Hunter when it was showed some years later in Denmark. And I had that MBX Dodge Daytona Turbo Z and I played that I was a cop too

I love that movie! The Wraith was so bad ass! I wish someone made a 1/64th scale Dodge M4S car just like the one the Wraith drove in the movie. That was a really cool looking car. I’m honestly surprised that Hot Wheels, Green Light, or Johnny Lightning haven’t made a diecast toy car for the Wraith.
That brings back memories as an 80s baby...I used to think the Dodge Daytona and Toyota MR2 were such cool cars growing up. That paint job really brings it to life...nicely done!
Very nicely done. Your restoration looks like my old 86 Turbo Z, but in much better shape. They were sadly underpowered and overweight. Was a fun car until it rusted apart and got scrapped.
Very cool, I worked at a Dodge Chrysler dealer mid 80s and got to drive lots of these, don't remember one with white seats they mostly had corduroy greys or leather

You're far exceeding the matchbox standard to the point that the fitting of the hood (a.k.a. bonnet) sticks out now, because the rest of the toy looks like a nicely assembled 1/24 model .
There were plenty of those when I was a teenager here and your rendition is very realistic

I had one and October of 1983 which is 1 of the very 1st cars I waited almost 6 months for it it was identical to the 1 you pain it I had it for about a year until the transmission without on it unfortunately it wasn't a stick he was an automatic and they had problems with those slush boxes at the time in 1889 I bought and I rock version of that car which is find a drive had it until 1994 well done brought back some old memories of the swinging eighties

Gorgeous Carmine Red over Magnesium, Danny! The only thing that bugs me is the hood not sitting flush. I thought those cars were cool when I was a teenager. I think the lady partner opposite Fred Dryer's character in the TV show "Hunter" drove one of these in a deeper red metallic.

love the two tone and the wheels. perhaps the plastic hinge is the reason why the hood is still on. its also on the iroc and for the rest ive never seen it. anyone did?
Excellent job with the detailing Danny, the engine looks fantastic. Anything would be better than these silly tampos but that paint scheme really suits the car. The black accents make a huge difference. Did you put black under the edges of the bonnet or is it just not a great fit? It might actually be "real" shadows I'm seeing.

I have that model, and it's brown though. A more realistic paint, the way that I like them. But it's Flea-Bitten and played with and I'll have to address that soon.

Beautiful job. One of my favorites. I've never had a car like this but a friend did, brand new. Was a lot of fun but I stuck with my GTOs. Lol
