I LOVE this feather/daisy style fill. It's easy enough for a beginner with a few quilts behind them. I used it on a twin quilt with two large flower and butterfly prints separated by large squares and rectangles of grunge. It showed up wonderful on the grunge and even somewhat in the medium to light prints. And it worked up fast. During her final days my mother was able to enjoy seeing these fabrics she had had in her stash for several years. I will use this many times in the future. Thank you.
You have just hooked me on quilting by using the freehand style. I've been terrified of trying, but you make it look so easy ... just plan ahead and know in your mind what you want it to look like, then take it there. I love the open spaces that will keep the quilt fluffy instead of hard and flat or no quilting that will allow the batting to pull apart and slide together in bunches when washing and drying it. I think I will have to 'map-it-out' on paper and set it beside my sewing machine. Maybe in 20 years (when I'll be hitting my 90s) I won't have to draw it out first. Your quilting is beautiful ... will have to catch some more of your tutorials ... this one is the first for me.
Jo Ann McCraw awe, you are so very kind. Never be afraid to keep trying to matter how old you were I may get. I’m thrilled that you’re going to try things like this, and don’t worry if they don’t look at it first. It’s all about sticking to it! I have complete faith in you :). The more you’re willing to just give it a try, the better you’re going to get. Thank you so much for such an amazing post. You really made my day!

Love this fill! Thanks for sharing it. I've had a mid-arm for several years and my new long arm is arriving in just a few days. I can't wait to try this out!
Your quilting is beautiful! Really appreciate your comments about how you decide about where to locate the swirls, the size of the feathers and how you move from one motif to another. Your additional captions are also very helpful! Thanks so much!
Sandal Keeffe, how very kind of you to take the time to leave such a wonderful response. What a great thing to wake up to! Thank you so very much. Wish I could hug you through the phone!
Fabulous videos! I just finished making a bird quilt and quilted it with lots of different feather designs. I wish I had found your channel before I started it because you’ve introduced me to some new feather ideas that are very doable on a regular sewing machine. Thanks so much!
I was looking for quilting feathers and just happened to see your video. Thanks for sharing! Unbelievable how beautiful this is. You have inspired me! Can't wait to try.
Shirley Hagan, I’m so glad to hear that your stumbling upon this video was a good thing! I hope you find you love doing this and that you meet with beautiful success! Take care!
I am petrified to do feathers because I think they have to be computer perfect. Your method of starting with a swirl makes so much sense to me. I've only been longarming a short time, under a year and I have yet to master the feather! I am going to practice this! Thank you so much for helping to ease my fear!
Joani Van Horn , I'm glad this was helpful to you. I have a couple other feather videos up here too. Just keep plugging away at feathers and I know you'll get them. I have faith in you! Thank you for your compliments!
Thank you so much for your videos. When I watch them, it makes me feel like I can do it too! You're a great teacher. Keep the videos coming, we're learning a lot! Practice, practice, practice!!!
I recently used this pattern as a background fill using my domestic machine. I absolutely love the way it turned out! And it is definitely do-able with a domestic machine. Thanks for sharing.
Fascinating feathers, I thank you for sharing your creactivity and cleverness. You tAke the fear away from having to make perfect feathers. I love your method, thank you again
I'm so glad that you got an Innova, you are going to LOVE it. I have mine for six years and wouldn't use anything else. I also use the red snappers and tape measures on my leaders.Thank you for the videos, they give me more ideas and inspiration.
Just stumbled into your longarm quilting videos. Your work is really beautiful. I recognize your longarm machine, as I'm also the proud owner of an Innova. They are great machines not often featured in videos. You've provided me with a lot of inspiration . Thanks !
Diana Rosenberg, awe, how very kind of you! I just love the quality that is Innova. They are remarkable longarms! I hope you have a great time with this and have a fantastic day!

I have just come across your TH-cam channel, and WOW I am so glad that I did. Your work is so beautiful and one day I hope to own a long arm. I just love the way you make it look so easy to do and your instructive tips and tricks are so clear to understand and follow. I will definitely give this a try on my domestic machine. Buy the way I just had to subscribe. Can't wait to see more. So thank you so much for sharing your tutorials.

@@thethreadworksfactory4781 I have a stash of 18yrs worth of quilt tops I need to have quilted. What a great reason to buy a longarm!! I’m sure you’re going to be awesome. If you do get one, don’t be fearful of just doodling. It’s a great way to learn.
NH Quilter thank you! Don’t fear that it’s a slow go...everyone learns at different speeds and your doing great by exploring things! Have fun with it!!
Beautiful. Do you move to different areas to start a new swirl, in the middle of quilting one feather, to prevent feathers all going in the same direction or, is it the only way to fill the space?
You can fill however you like, but you are very right as to why I showed doing that moving on this video. I like the look of them coming from all sorts of directions, and not all piled facing the same way, looking the same way. Both ways look nice, but I really prefer to have them heading different ways. You are spot on in your assessment!

I absolutely love this feather fill! You travel along the border and the feathers fill themselves in - brilliant!

Some of the most beautiful feather work I’ve ever seen! I’m glad I ran across you. Thank you for sharing it.
This is a nice variation and you make it look easy. I'll be doodling it to see if I can come close. Thanks for the lesson.
