    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there, we were here in the middle of winter early July this is about as cold as it gets, you will not need chains in New Zealand unless you want to go up to the ski fields which are very high up, then chains are normally required after fresh snow fall, otherwise you will have no issues.

    Hey bro, great video, really appreciate.
    I am going to take the similar motorhome trip (similar to yours + fox glacier)
    I am wondering when the road is icy, is it ok to drive on it?
    I am based in Auckland and have never in a motorhome nor driving on icy/snowy roads.
    Getting quite anxious now as there no much information I found about it. Please let me know.
    Thank you.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  วันที่ผ่านมา

      glad you enjoyed our trip.
      So the roads are generally ok, I recommend if you have had a night well below freezing, that you don't drive until about 10am, by then some traffic has been over the road, and road crews normally deal to any problematic areas. We've spent the last 2 winters caravaning in the South Island and pretty much all accidents happen with those driving before sunrise, often when frosts are at their worst. Interms of snow, the roads normally get closed if it's snowing, and they clear them really quickly and your good to go. I found that it wasn't an issue at all.

    • @kylewong2278
      @kylewong2278 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @leopardsgowild thank you so much for your reply.
      I am also wondering about the heating.
      As I know, there are diesel, gas and electric heating.
      May I asked which one is the best? Are they warm enough at night? Would they work during driving?
      Thank you

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ While your driving you have the vehicle heater like all cars... If you plug into power at a campground you have the electric heater which is normally just a cheap fan heater from the warehouse, and then diesel is bulit into the system, all are ok, it's a small space So easy to heat, we found our diesel heater in the rental to not quite be enough def takes the chill off, but we felt we still needed a jersey inside the motorhome. I guess an element of travelling in winter is it's cold so be prepared for that, we don't have extreme winter conditions in New Zealand so I don't think you should worry too much... We only had snow 3x to our caravan level all winter, otherwise snow remains higher up in the mountains or hills, you'll be fine, pack warm clothes and a warm hat and enjoy the beautiful snow capped mountains.

I have planned to hire aqua hybrid, do u think i need chain on tyres for driving on road. Will i have any problem driving toyota aqua on this itenary. I think you are best person to advise since you stay in west coast.

    • @leopardsgowild
      @leopardsgowild  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey we actually are from Rotorua in the North Island, but yes you will be fine on the road in any vehicle. Snow chains are generally required when you go up to a ski field which is up the mountain... There can be low snow fall in July, but the roads would likely be cleared of snow in a day or 2 of it were to snow.
