  • In this video I've got some new headlights from Oracle to replace the factory halogens in the Jeep Wrangler JLU Sport model which are very dim. The new ones are called the Oculus by Oracle and are a true 9" headlight completely redesigned for the Jeep JL, and JT. I'll cover the installation, the pro and cons, and test the differences between the two headlights in side by side comparison.

    More info from the Manufacturer:
    ORACLE Part# 5839-504
    --Fitment:
    2018-2020 Jeep Wrangler JL
    2020 Jeep Gladiator JT
    Introducing the all-new Oculus™ Bi-LED Headlamp system by ORACLE Lighting. Featuring advanced LED projection with 3,200 Lumens of high-quality illumination for enhanced driver visibility in all weather conditions. The LED light source has lower power demands compared to the factory lamps while providing more light output.
    --Features:
    Precision LED lighting projector for optimum light distribution and beam angle. Installs using original mounting hardware and headlight wiring is Plug & Play into the factory connector without additional relays or harnesses. Halo DRL features over 200 bright white LEDs for a vivid lighting impact.
    --Benefits:
    These all-new headlamps provide enhanced driver visibility with increased and focused LED light output. Complete headlight replacement, better light focus than a simple bulb upgrade. Package includes tool for easy beam angle adjustability for proper light focus on lifted Jeeps.
    --Safety:
    Light focus is very important for not only driver safety but others on the road who can potentially have their vision obstructed by glare. This is especially significant on lifted vehicles where the light source is raised and in a position to interfere with the field of vision of other drivers. These new Oculus headlights feature a very sharp cut-off line and focus light with precision specifically to avoid such issues.
    --Reliability:
    It is undeniably important to implement proper thermal management tools for high-performance LEDs to operate with reliability in various environments. Oculus utilizes both active and passive cooling methods to sustain low LED temperatures. Remote mounted heat sinks and an internal cooling fan work in conjunction to insure proper temperature control and longevity of the LEDs.
    --Specifications:
    Wattage: 36W
    Total Lumens: 4800LM
    Color Temp: 5500K
    Certification: DOT SAE 5839-504 HL VOR 19

    Thanks for giving an honest review! Many people are unwilling to cast any shade on a product they have been given. Usually with aftermarket LED, the complaint is not ENOUGH cutoff - apparently, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing! Interesting to see if you move away from these over time, I'm pretty sure that a LED upgrade video of yours brought me to your channel years back on one of your XJ's, loved the honesty and have been here ever since!

    I’ve been looking at these since I got my ‘20 JLUR in October which came with the stock halogen lights. I like the halo look but not the crazy RGB stuff. These in my opinion look better than the Mopar LED headlights and are a lot cheaper, $900 vs. $600.

    Good video as always. European lighting cutoff has been on some vehicles in the U.S. for years now. I personally do not care for it for all the reasons you hit on. I live in an area with a lot of deer and not seeing a little higher up the next hill is not good. Keep up the good work.

    • @LWRC
      @LWRC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That cutoff is a US DOT requirement and is not part of European headlight standard!!!
      If you saw an European headlight's beam pattern, you'll realize how much superior it is compared to the US DOT version!!!

    • @EverythingOutdoors
      @EverythingOutdoors 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LWRC look, cie has done tons of reports on this and that cutoff did start in Europe. I don't really care, I just liked your YT light project. I worked to design on road lighting with a major supplier years ago and understand the cutoff, still don't like it. That is personal opinion on my part. I did not say it was part of any standard above, just mentioned it was from Europe. Again, thank you for doing the light review. Have a great day. I do hope you do more of them as it was informative.

    • @LWRC
      @LWRC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EverythingOutdoors The entire objective of headlights is to allow the driver to see at night. The cutoff may have started in Europe but the current pattern is part of the US DOT standard. It is seen as a flat beam pattern when you project it on to a flat surface. European pattern has a wedge pattern on the upper right side which illuminates road signs that the US pattern doesn't have. Again, you apparently have not used European lights as they are vastly superior to the US version. As for which types you prefer, why would you prefer something inferior?!! Audi already has pioneered laser, a term they used but are not actual laser beam, headlights that are computer controlled and can light up specific target areas for incredible night time visibility without blinding oncoming traffic. So things are getting significantly better and the US DOT standard is falling further behind.

    • @EverythingOutdoors
      @EverythingOutdoors 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LWRC love your passion for lighting. In the flat, the European cars I have been in have lights that work fantastic on the Autobahn. Where it is flat for the most part. In the US, we have a ton of hills, not talking mountains, just quick hills and I would simply like the cutoff to be a bit higher. Again, loved the video and keep up the good work.

    • @LWRC
      @LWRC 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EverythingOutdoors The fact that US standards are lagging way behind European standards is pathetic. These people that write the US laws have no clue what they're doing. In Europe, they understand that you should be able to see the signs.
      The beam pattern should work for any environment that the drivers may encounter on the streets and highways. We are not talking about off road conditions. That said, the issue you mentioned should be able to be resolved with proper aiming of the vertical part of the headlight beam. Your headlights will only point towards the direction that the front of the car is pointed at. If you have just past the crest of hill 1 and the front of the car is pointed downwards as you head towards hill 2, of course you will not see the top of hill 2 no matter how high you aim your lights. Not knowing the exact situation you mentioned, just make sure they're aimed properly and that will be the best it can ever get. If you need lighting for the specific condition you mentioned, just install a good set of aftermarket fog (or driving lights depending on the distance to the 2nd hill) lights that you can switch on at the time.

    @getoutofthetimetrap5435 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The best set up would be a stock set up from the factory but with a spread out light ahead of you reaching into the night where the center isn’t too bright this way you don’t blind people as long as the sides get great lumens you should be ok for normal conditions.

    I wanted brighter headlight on my rig that came with the sealed glass beam headlamp. Problem was it only came in two options, both are a dingy yellow color. Now I know the whiter the light the hotter it is and brighter, and projection HID lights are expensive and come with way to much extra crap. Found a set of Cibie glass lenses that fit my rig and now I can put any bran of halogen bulbs in that I choose. I put a extra relay at the head lights so it wouldn’t tax the headlamp system, and helps the stay constant without flickering.

      Did you get the LED package from the factory? They are much better then the conventional headlights Jeep offers

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      do you have a rubicon? you may have the upgraded lights and not the halogen... these stock halogens are pretty dim on the JL sport.

    • @g_force3857
      @g_force3857 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No LED, stock halogen lights, it is a Rubicon... could there be something else causing some wrangler lights to be dim ? Or maybe I’ve still got good eyesight 😁😁

    • @DanFisher2
      @DanFisher2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnny_Gee mopar just makes a garbage reflector. JKs had the same issue. And you can keep going back and have the same problem. And the world got brighter so Halogens can’t keep up

      Dan Fisher again mine are fine... maybe I’ve got good eyesight 😉😉😉... na I find LED”s obnoxious when coming towards me or when they are behind me when I’m driving my crown vic. They need to have a lower low beam but still not as bad as the projector ones

    @DanFisher2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    We stopped carrying Oracle for the JKs because of constant warranty issues.
    I really hope you do a review after some time with them. Positive or negative. I am very hesitant about giving oracle another chance with the JLs

      what was happening to them?

    • @DanFisher2
      @DanFisher2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BleepinJeep the halo or the headlight would flicker or fail. Didn’t matter if you used the cheap anti flicker harness it came with or the expensive rigid version. Most fail. And warranty from the manufacturer was impossible. We’d just return them to the supplier and let them deal with it.

    As i've said in so many other comments, LED just doesn't impress me, regardless of its purpose and format. car, house lamp, flashlight, etc. The light color from LED emitters is what gets me all triggered. As much as i like playing with modern lights and flashlights, and they're definitely an improvement over incandescent flashlights, there is something lacking that. Nobody wants to work under that kind of lighting for very long..

  • @brandonrichter6910

    Absolutely hate the beam cutoff.... the amount of light is amazing but if you cant see anything at all more than 70 feet ahead they're worthless.

  • @huf67

    I had a rental car that had a cut off like those and I hated it !!! As you've found out you can't see anything above that cut off point... Very dangerous !!

    600 bucks for LED headlights? ridiculous...when the LED module dies in less than 5 years, you will be forced to buy another one (the dream of every manufacturer) . If you have some brain, just stick to regular OEM lights and buy cheap bulbs when they burn out. Much more reasonable route..:-)

    When Jeeps drive behind my car the beams aim offensively high - every jeep ever, I estimate, though I could be wrong. They're hitting the rear mirror if not the interior roof iteself of my standard sized sedan. This is uncalled for. I wish there was an answer to this. (Oh, I try awkwardly attempting to aim my rear-view at the eyes of the jeep behind me, so they comprehend what damage they're causing. I would bet under 1% properly get the message. No surprise; many jeeps on city streets are not exactly courteous or conscientious drivers, much less yuppie pricks and lawyers just trying to look cool.)

    • @Bill_Woo
      @Bill_Woo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can also see offroaders go, "oh, awesome, these are so much brighter - and safer" - both for illuminating and for visibility to others; and off we go with a "race to see who can be the brightest." The problem is that they sometimes are driving on roads -- and infuriating automobile drivers.

    • @Bill_Woo
      @Bill_Woo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad the video went over adding switches. That approach could make life better for all.
      And obviously THANK YOU for going over the beam adjustment. So help me, though, I do not believe many if any jeeps on the road responsibly do that - if they even could care less to begin with. Is that what a "mall jeep" is?

    • @Bill_Woo
      @Bill_Woo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ask the guy who high-brighted in response on the road. Standard Jeep settings seem to be at "anger other drivers" height :(
