A weird side effect of this is when you see the good nature of delivery drivers as a result of porch pirates. I ordered a birthday gift for my own sister who's birthday is in June. I come home one day and my mother asks why the snow shovel was on the front step in the middle of summer. The driver had gone around the house looking for something to hide the package behind so you couldn't see it from the street. A weird bit of camouflage, but still a kind gesture.
Especially when you consider that the thief, upon realizing what it was, probably just threw it away and had the gall to be annoyed that it wasn't something she could use for herself or profit off of. That's how these types usually are.
PSA to anyone: If your stolen packages were delivered by USPS, report the porch pirate to the USPS Inspection Service. Chances are very likely the porch pirate is also stealing packages from a bunch of other houses, and the usps inspection service doesn't take that shit lying down.
One time porch pirates stole a textbook I ordered in college. It wasn't even a pricey one; it was one my professor had written herself for her own research methods course and I could ONLY purchase it online through this specific seller. To this day I hope they were disappointed when they opened that box to find a paperback science textbook worth only like $20.
I sprayed pyrethrin on a package and put it on my porch after I had something stolen a couple times so I hope that porch pirate enjoys his thyroid cancer for the rest of his life PFFFFFFFTBWUHAHAHAHA
Ya know, that kinda reminds me about how some dumbass stole a package, but put it back in front of my doorstep because it was a kirby art book. BUT, the dumbass tipped me off on their attempt to steal as they left the package OPENED AND UNSEALED. From there, I ended up installing a visible security camera and nobody has stolen anything from my household ever since. I hope those people that attempt to steal get what's coming
Yeah I think the worst part is actually the sense of security that you lose. The feeling that people are willing to come inside your safe zone to take away from you. You become very stressed and anxious of it happening again.
funny thing in here in Australia we have packages just sitting in our apartment lobby, and no one steals them the most people do is pick them up and place them on the mail boxes so no one stands on them.
I understand not wanting to start a witch hunt, but as someone who's had sentimental items stolen from my porch, and hearing what she stole from Matt, she doesn't deserve to have her identity hidden. I wish I had a platform to help find the person who stole my dogs ashes.
I'd like to agree, but there will be people who will get mistaken for her if her face is revealed. And if that happens, it will result in more victims. We don't want more Boston Bomber shenanigans, or the more recent story of the guy who was mistaken for a Nazi, even though he never attended the event in which he was "spotted"
Yeah I totally get Charlie’s logic but this woman at the very least needs to be found and return the items. But, there’s whackos in any community and there’s no telling what they might do to her, and if something were to happen, she could easily blame it on Charlie.
Imagine being a porch pirate, and you steal a package from a large TH-camr and now your crime is forever out there, just imagine her kids seeing this and knowing like gah damn bruh 💀
@@masteryi197 You can see a friend, mother, family member without seeing their face if someone knows that woman they won't need no face to recognize them.
I have full confidence that even though he blurred her face, people can still find her based off the bracelets shes wearing or something obscure like that
I wish charlie didn't blur her face. Should've shown her face. Even when I was poor, I have NEVER stolen from another person. She probably has a massive house and is just stealing from people.
I live in a small town and people will legitimately just post the image of the porch pirate on facebook in our community page asking if anyone knows them. 9 times out of 10 someone will step forward and name the person and that info will be taken to authorities, which usually ends up in an arrest.
it takes a neighborhood to protect each other =] thieves thrive in neighborhoods where neighbors dont talk to each other. they are helped by the both the standby effect and the mystery [and possible feuding] between neighbors that allows blame to be cast toward other neighbors -can i say neighbors a few more times lol?-
We had a porch pirate once. Ran off with our package while my wife and I were at work. The contents? Dresses and baby clothes for our daughter. People are so horrible sometimes. And like most people, absolutely no refunds
No mercy, no remorse. If y’all are gonna blatantly confidently walk up and steal from someone, you deserve EVERYTHING that happens to you. My roommate had a one of a kind gift from a close personal friend of his stolen from the porch and I’m still livid to this day that nobody could do anything. Irreplaceable stuff.
In The Netherlands, packages *only* get delivered to your door if you are home. If you are not home, it will either be dropped of at your neighbours house (with an email telling you which adress has your package) OR it will be sent to a depot (a store nearby) where you can retreive it safely. On top of this, valuable packages require a signature from the person receiving the package.
It's similar here, the courier calls and asks if anybody's home to receive the package. If not you either tell them where to drop it off, or agree on another day. However, the most popular way to get packages is via parcel machines - locked cupboards you can open with a personalized code to retrieve what you ordered.
yeah.. but that would cut into the profits. lol what do courier companies care if you lose priceless shit? it would cost their drivers extra minutes to care, and we can’t have that.
Thankfully this can no longer happen to be because our mail gets put in a locked box we have a key to but this still makes me so mad that they get away with it.
As soon as Charlie said what had been stolen from Matt, my heart dropped. He spent so much time and effort to get a custom gift for his sister and that lady had the gall to steal it while looking directly at the camera she knew was recording her. I hate that stealing packages has evolved into such a common problem.
Someone stole a dog statue from my uncles grave that my grandma painted. He passed away from cancer last year and it was painted to look like his dog, people steal the weirdest things
I'm not sure if this is even a thing in the US, but when you order packages here in Sweden, 99% of the time you have the option of having them delivered to the your closest convenience store instead of to your door. It's usually even the default option. You then just get a message with a code, you go to the store and tell them you're there to collect the package with code so-and-so, and boom, you got your package without any chance of porch piracy.
We do have that system here, but one thing you have to know is that this is a very annoying, and illegal first world issue. Like I would assume it's also illegal in Sweden to steal packages, but it was such a problem to stop all that, that you ended up with gling with the convenience store option. A lot of America thinks it's safe enough for straight home delivery for the convenience, so when something does happen, it's surprising.
The funny thing is, your audience is so expansive that if you showed her face, someone that watches you would probably either know her or recognize her
It's not THAT big Edit: Before you say something to me, read below I was countering the statement that someone in the audience would "probably" recognize her, not bashing his channel or saying he doesn't have a big audience. His active viewers are more like 4 million+. The woman is most likely from Florida, so let's say that a generous maximum of 300,000 of them are from Florida. Most viewers are also going to trend younger than people who would know this woman. So that would put the odds of someone knowing her at, very very roughly, (under) 1%. Now that is somewhat high considering how many people there are in the state/country, it's impressive to have even maybe a 1% chance, yes. But does that mean a viewer "probably" knows her or recognizes her? Absolutely not. That's all I was saying.
I guarantee someone who knows her can recognize her without her face. Her clothes, general look, and specific set of bracelts would be a dead give away for anybody in her immediate circle.
They don't bother investigating crimes like these unless all of the evidence they would need for an arrest is placed right in their laps (and even then they still sometimes don't). It happens so frequently that a single department simply lacks the resources to be able to pursue every single porch pirate.
I'm pretty sure it has more to do with ressources. You won't get the A-Team on a damn porch pirate lol. Pretty sure if she tried to unlawfully enter or rob the house this would have been resolved pretty quickly and resolutly.
It's actually wild you can have video evidence of a crime and the authorities can't do anything about it??? Like what the hell is the ring doorbell even for then. I understand wanting to censor the woman's face to protect others from being falsely accused, but surely it could be released uncensored to police and if they can track people down by surveillance cameras on corpo property or with physical descriptions they can absolutely track this woman down. They'd do the same for someone who robbed a store or broke into your house??
Former amazon driver. I recommend buying a locked chest/cabinet thing for your front porch. You can put the combination in the delivery notes and request that they put the package inside. Some people also will request that the packages are placed in something like a grill outside
You could theoretically find her, since her car was visible the police could track it down on the road. Even if you don’t get Matt’s stuff back, you could find her and charge her. Sorry about Matt and his sister though.
As frustrating as it is to not help this woman come to justice, it's a very good thing he blurred her face. Im sure Charlie has some crazed fans that would go on a murderous manhunt, which would be dangerous to any blonde woman in the state of Florida
@@plasmaglobe2850would it be worth it if, let’s say, 5 other women that isn’t the pirate got accused, harassed, traumatized and possibly assaulted by his “fans” just because they had blonde hair and slightly looked like the pirate? If you think yes then you got some self reflection to do.
As a Dutch person, the fact that you guys even get packages like that (just dropped on your porch or wherever) blows my mind. Absolutely blows my mind. In my country there is no such thing. They either ring the doorbell and give it to you directly OR they take it to the nearest store where you can pick it up yourself. Why the heck would anyone just leave a package unsupervised like that??

If you posted up her face (even if just in you local area) surely someone would know her. I’ve seen cases where people rat out someone they know very personally. Even if she has already tossed the items, it’ll at least possibly deter her from doing it again and save someone else the heartache.
In the Netherlands if we're not home the delivery driver posts a little letter through your door saying "I left your package at **house address**" so you go to that house and retrieve your package ITS SO SIMPLE and it completely prevents package thieves it's so unbelievably easy to prevent people from stealing your packages how is it still a problem

It's so weird to me that things like this exist. In France, if you're not there to receive your package, it goes to a delivery center and you have a few days to pick it up. Leaving people's property on their doorstep, unattended is wildd
That is absolutely devastating for Matt, All stealing is wrong, but most things can be REPLACED, the fact Matt spend 6 months to make his sisters birthday special is gone forever and has no value to her... heartbreaking.
My street has a another street on it called the same name but west & sometimes over the years we get their packages shipped to us & I’ve always hand delivered these packages to their door every time. I can’t imagine anyone doing this. That’s just terrible.
I had photo evidence of my neighbor stealing my package, and when I confronted said neighbors with the photo evidence, they straight up denied it. She was wearing the same exact outfit, face was easily noticable, and still denied it completely. The confidence in her voice was more infuriating than the actual theft itself. Hope she enjoyed a pair Men's jeans twice her waist size and a $5 outlet adapter so I can charge my phone in the UK.
I had this idea years ago where we had mailbox like boxes with special keys that only mailmen and the homeowner had. But it really wouldn't fix anything
I don’t understand how the police can’t do anything about this unless she doesn’t have a license. The police in my area at least have access to the dmv database, and can find your photo and your registered vehicles.
Yep! I understand not having the jail space to arrest everyone, but they could absolutely find their address from the vehicle and send them a ticket or something. It's at least an attempt at deterring. 😕
Cops aren't required to protect and serve, only fill quotas. They dont care about enforcing laws, just getting the easiest arrests. Catching someone speeding is far easier than actually looking through a database and collecting data. Its pathetic but true.
That is so rage inducing. Imagine working for six months to make a present for your sister only for a soccer mom to steal it off your porch. I hope she mysteriously pops a tire.
Popping a tire would be light honestly. That’s too easy to fix and honestly isn’t that big of a deal. How about “falling” and breaking a bone in a “freak accident”.

As a foreigner (Netherlands) the concept of porch pirates seems weird. When the delivery people show up and you aren't home the package gets delivered to a local post depot, usually within 2km from your house so you can easily pick it up with your ID
i was just literally thinking the same thing. where i'm from, here, in Russia, that shazy-juicy package wouldn't last long unchaperoned outside lol. i always get the goodies either personally right away or later at the post office.
One of solutions to this would be a mock-up of an automated sentry gun or similar security. It won't function like a real thing, saving you both from engineering and legal headaches, but will look intimidating enough to scare thieves away.
I had to deliver to several houses that had lock boxes set up back when driving for Amazon. It's usually more convenient as long as no one has to sign and it's not so far from the house that the app refuses to let you mark as delivered cause it doesn't think you're there
I once had a neighbor who actually knocked on our door to say that there has been a package on our door all day and didn't want anybody to steal it. While there's plenty of jerks in the world, there is still nice people :P
I will never understand this American mentality of leaving packages on porches. Or anything valuable. In my mind, if you do that you're an idiot and you deserve it.
This is why I like being friends with my neighbors because I had a package deliver (a laptop and motorcycle parts) and they took it in and left a note too
I am blessed to live across the street from the sweetest retirees known to man. They are pretty much always home and the husband will come out and hide our packages whenever he sees that they are on our front porch. For every awful person, there's another good person trying to make your day better.
That is genuinely so sweet and kind. Ive noticed that the neighborhoods with retirees in them are waaay less prone to this kind of garbage human behavior. Especially when your neighbors care for you and each other. As a neighborhood should be. Growing up, kids were able to play on the streets and be safe because ALL adult eyes were on them... Now? 🤷🏽♀😓
This is just common everywhere else in the world. I don't want to shit on america but the entitlement on both the thieves side as well as this stupid system of leaving shit unattended at your porch is so damn weird to me. yup, my brother got a package with a sharps container stolen, so he had to wait for another one to come in before he can throw away his needles. very dangerous to have used needles around regardless of if he put them in a place out of the way. especially with 2 cats around. its also why i dont order from mail-order pharmacies anymore, its too risky to have my meds stolen. one of my prescriptions is a scheduled substance, so if that ever got stolen in the mail, i imagine some porch pirate junkie would come around a lot more often.
It's really amazing and baffling to me that happens in the US, in my country ALL packages and any deliveries are not given unless there is someone at house who receives them. We need to sign or give an ID in order to take the package, if nobody is at house, the delivery men just go back and try again next day, then if happens again, you have to go personally at one of the storage offices to search for your package. Similar thing with food deliveries, we don't do "leave at the door", it's "meet at door".
Yup, I'm from an European country and this is pretty much how it works over here. I'm baffled the US decided the appropriate thing to do to a package when the recepient is not present is to just leave it unattended.
Because people here work all day and literally are never home to get a package or have time to go pick it up. It used to be like that, but we have TOO many packages now
@@HicSvntDracones If someone can't spare to have 30 minutes to go pick up a package personally or from the storage offices, I'd argue they shouldn't be ordering packages at all.
I'm from Europe and I will never understand how is a good idea to just leave your internet shoping packages outside. If we are not in home when they deliver them they just bring them back to the warehouse and notify you. It's not unsafe to order things, it is unsafe if you just leave them on your front door with literally nothing to stop anyone from just taking them.
Where I live they drop the packages at the closest postal place, and recently also at small grocery shops. You only get a notification to your house which you take to the place, where they verify you (with ID) and only then give you the package.
Also from Europe here, and i do agree. It may be annoying sometimes when delivery guys dont give a shit about thier job and just leave the notify about a minute after telling that the package is ready to be delivered so that they dont have to actually deliver. Yet, this system protects us from this american porch pirates bullcrap.
yes, BUT since amazon started to deliver by there own drivers, they started to leave packages inside the first door next to the staircase. no ID verification needed.

I come home one day and my mother asks why the snow shovel was on the front step in the middle of summer. The driver had gone around the house looking for something to hide the package behind so you couldn't see it from the street. A weird bit of camouflage, but still a kind gesture.

However, the most popular way to get packages is via parcel machines - locked cupboards you can open with a personalized code to retrieve what you ordered.
yeah.. but that would cut into the profits. lol

Solution: Don't deliver packages on porches or anywhere, delivering companies should give you the package or leave it with a person inside the house.
It's unfortunate that some people are just unempathetic monsters like this woman.
It’s like that here in the US too. A while ago I got GTA 5 on Amazon and it was sent to the local Whole Foods.
Always. We pick our stuff up at either ICA or Hemköp, both have those boxes.
They also don't just leave them at the door if nobody's home.
This is the same in Norway. When I order expensive things I order to local store.
Imagine hearing distant footsteps followed by the door opening "these arent clips"
put a note outside your door that says "will shoot thieves"
The funny thing is, your audience is so expansive that if you showed her face, someone that watches you would probably either know her or recognize her
and it would ruin her entire life 🙃🫠
It's not THAT big
Edit: Before you say something to me, read below
I was countering the statement that someone in the audience would "probably" recognize her, not bashing his channel or saying he doesn't have a big audience.
As it should

Where I live if you miss your package you'll be left a note telling you that it's either brought to a secure packaging station nearby or that it's with the neighboors. I have takien in 100s of packages for my neighboor as she does for me. This is common all across germany so I don't know why Americans leave their shit like even door dash at the porch???? Especially considering crimerates in the US. Leaving your food unattended in open is THE nightmare scenario for every mom here lol. That's like asking to be roofied ^^
@@PuddingXXL ok but I live geographically very close to Charlie which is why my experience is relevant. It's not exactly NORMAL to have packages laying around for taking but life happens. And 99% of the time, no one fucks with them. I just wanted to share the goodness in my life and hope others will join in.
@@PuddingXXLno no, you’re right. Thing is that a lot of communities here in the US don’t interact a lot so people usually do things on their own. It’s kinda rare to have neighbors good enough to take in your packages, even though that’s more dependent on where you live
What a poocee Charlie is, just disclose her face. Yeah let's make video content on the subject and not disclose anything about it except the merch which he says isn't a plug, but it actually was just a plug. Typical hypocrite, next.
a one way slot that leads to a locked box would be a helpful alternative when dropping packages. the less noticeable the better
Good thing about living way out in the country in a tiny neighborhood full of nice elderly people that know everyone. Really sweet out here! 😊
Tiny, remote, & elderly. That sounds real fun 🥱I bet the shuffleboard tournaments get wild.
What makes this stuff worse is that some of these packages could have medical supplies/medicine that the person that the packages are intended for need and could possibly do harm or worse is they can’t get what they need.
was looking for a comment that said this. someone stole packages from me once and inside were: rabbit medicine and a get well soon gift including a mini plush and card (ik my bunny cant read i thought he'd at least enjoy the pictures). i wondered for days if the person maybe got home and felt like poo and would return it but they never did. let em burn (-:
I get diabetes equipment by mail, but it is usually delivered to the closest mail pickup point where I need to show ID to retrieve my package, or a trusted person with a specific consent paper can pick it up for me. So no one can steal it.
But even then once I ordered 3 tights and got them in the mailbox and the package was ripped open and one of 3 was stolen lmao. Had a few packages like that where one item was stolen from a bigger one and I'm like bro what
It stopped though most likely cus I live in a small village where mostly everyone knows everyone, so the thief was well known and I assume it was taken care of lmao.
Lol I order medical supplies online since its cheaper than the pharmacy and I've had it stolen once. Legitimately had to miss a weeks dose because of it LOL. I hope they enjoyed their needles and syringes!
yup, my brother got a package with a sharps container stolen, so he had to wait for another one to come in before he can throw away his needles. very dangerous to have used needles around regardless of if he put them in a place out of the way. especially with 2 cats around. its also why i dont order from mail-order pharmacies anymore, its too risky to have my meds stolen. one of my prescriptions is a scheduled substance, so if that ever got stolen in the mail, i imagine some porch pirate junkie would come around a lot more often.
Charlie is the only person who can get robbed and still manage to make a merch plug out of it.

Get one of those library/post office drop off boxes but on a larger scale
It's really amazing and baffling to me that happens in the US, in my country ALL packages and any deliveries are not given unless there is someone at house who receives them. We need to sign or give an ID in order to take the package, if nobody is at house, the delivery men just go back and try again next day, then if happens again, you have to go personally at one of the storage offices to search for your package. Similar thing with food deliveries, we don't do "leave at the door", it's "meet at door".
Based pfp
Yup, I'm from an European country and this is pretty much how it works over here. I'm baffled the US decided the appropriate thing to do to a package when the recepient is not present is to just leave it unattended.
Because people here work all day and literally are never home to get a package or have time to go pick it up. It used to be like that, but we have TOO many packages now
@@HicSvntDracones If someone can't spare to have 30 minutes to go pick up a package personally or from the storage offices, I'd argue they shouldn't be ordering packages at all.
So many US Americans take what we have for granted bro
@@Soul-Burncurious, may I ask which country/region are you experiencing this in?
I think this is the first time I heard of this method before
Yeah i live in the netherlands and most of the times they deliver it to one of your neighbors and just give you a note.

You can have a box installed in the wall of your home a delivery box it is made to drop the package into the house once the delivery door is closed i use it and haven't had a issue since

I’ve got alerts set up for basically all my packages depending on what carrier it’s coming through. No body is getting my stuff.
My uncle passed away last year from cancer and he had a little dog. Before he passed my grandma bought a stone statue that looked like his dog and painted it for him. She decided to put that on his grave because other people had done similar to their loved ones and their stuff never seemed to go missing. In the UK, packages this valuable nearly always require a signed signature on delivery. And if no one is home the company is required to take it back to a delivery office so you can collect it another time. Couriers shouldn’t just be able to leave valuable packages lying on the floor.
