    I was asked in an interview once, "What is your greatest strength?" I replied "I'm lazy"
    He looked at me like I was mad. I explained "There's a difference between lazy and idle. Idle people don't do a job. Lazy people find the quickest and easiest way to do a job".
    A colleague of mine spends a day (8 full hours) every month formatting data from a report. She was ill recently so I was asked to do the report.
    At the end my boss complained it had taken me three days. I showed her I'd actually done it in a day and a half, the other day and a half was making a macro that means that, in future, it will be done automatically in under a minute. I don't think she managed to speak for 20 seconds.

      My personal motto is "There's always a better way" and I apply that logic to everything I do. Within a year I was running the team. Three years later, the department. That was how I got rewarded. My job now is to run a department of consultants who look at processes like this and find ways to automate them or reduce the effort required.
      My colleague had extra time to do work that was more valuable.

    Hello Brian. This video has opened my eyes to lots of new possibilities. Thanks. I would like to set up a macro to audition Samples and Midi files so I don't have to keep pressing the down arrow on my keyboard. I think it should be a simple script but am confused about the repeat and pause function. I would like to select the first file in a folder and then let the macro play each sample once and then have a slight pause and then move down to the next one until all the files have played in that folder and then stop. Any idea's would be a great help. I have hundreds of midi files that I have loaded into Superior Drummer and would like to automate the auditioning. Thanks again.

    • @BrianRivlin
      @BrianRivlin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sample browsing, I would refer to an app like Iced Audio AudioCortex or if you're in Cubase, Media Bay is my favorite way to browse through samples.
      As for midi files, how do you audition them? Inside of SD3?
      The thing is, KM has no way of knowing when the sample (or midi file) is done previewing. So you would have to find another condition so KM knows when to press "Down" for the next sample/midi file.

    • @paulc7798
      @paulc7798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianRivlin Thanks for the reply. The midi file selection is pretty much the same as going through presets on any AU/VST instrument. I would like to listen to a preset for two bars and then move on down to the next so could that not be be a "pause until" condition by setting the wait time that is divisible by the tempo of the track ? Thanks again for your time.

    I use apple scripts to bounce multiple projects in a row and then place them in the right folder depending on the name and stage we're in (production, mixing or mastering). I've combined it with siri shortcuts to then take that same list, review it and send out the files via e-mail to the right client. I wonder if you could create the same with keyboard maestro, because it seems easier to learn than scripting.

    • @BrianRivlin
      @BrianRivlin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's amazing!
      So, from what observed (this is purely my own observation and not confirmed or tested), it looks like a lot of what keyboard maestro does is based on apple scripts but with an easier interface.
      However, you can do a lot more with apple scripts.
      But generally, I bet it's possible. Worst case, there is a feature where you can add an apple script in your macro if you can script something that KM can't do.

    Good video, I use keyboard maestro day and night man! its awesome! I wonder how did you program KM to right click exactly on the files location, first on the first file and then the other! Don't think it's simply click on location.

    • @BrianRivlin
      @BrianRivlin  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I basically used the "move or click mouse" action for that. I just made sure to resize my window (also with a KM action) at the start of the macro so that the mouse always goes to the correct location.

    • @BrianRivlin

      Technically yes. There's a record button on keyboard maestro that gives you a countdown and then records all of the actions (instead of you building it yourself). It won't do complex waiting stuff, but it might get you what you're looking for.

      I’m using Keyboard Maestro’s “move and resize window” function with an “If this then..” condition.
      The trick is to find the correct number of your screen, but after that it’s pretty simple.
      This should give you enough to go on if you want to try and figure it out yourself, but I am planning a breakdown video of all of my macros (plus new ones) soon.
