Here's a critique, extrapolation, and further theorization on the video "Elon Musk in 2009- Charlie Rose Interview": Critique: 1. Historical context: This interview provides a fascinating snapshot of Elon Musk's vision and ambitions at a relatively early stage in his career. It's interesting to see how many of his predictions and goals have come to fruition in the years since. 2. Prescience: Musk's foresight regarding electric vehicles, space exploration, and sustainable energy is remarkable. Many of his projections about the future of these industries have proven accurate. 3. Technical depth: The interview showcases Musk's deep technical knowledge, particularly in explaining complex concepts like the differences between suborbital and orbital space flight, and the challenges of battery technology. 4. Business strategy: Musk clearly articulates the rationale behind starting with a high-end sports car (the Roadster) before moving to more affordable models. This strategy has since been replicated by Tesla with considerable success. 5. Interconnected vision: The interview reveals how Musk's various ventures (SpaceX, Tesla, SolarCity) are all part of a larger vision for sustainable energy and human progress. Extrapolation and further theorization: 1. Electric vehicle adoption: Musk's prediction about the inevitability of electric cars has largely come true, with most major automakers now investing heavily in EV technology. We could theorize that this trend will continue, potentially leading to the phasing out of internal combustion engines in many markets within the next few decades. 2. Space commercialization: SpaceX's success in reducing launch costs and pioneering reusable rockets has indeed accelerated the commercialization of space. We might extrapolate this trend to predict a future where space tourism, asteroid mining, and even Mars colonization become realistic possibilities. 3. Energy transition: The interview touches on Musk's involvement in SolarCity. We could theorize that the integration of solar power, battery storage, and electric vehicles will continue to reshape the energy landscape, potentially leading to decentralized, renewable-based power grids. 4. Technological disruption: Musk's success in entering and disrupting established industries (automotive, aerospace) could be seen as a model for future entrepreneurs. We might theorize that other traditional industries could face similar disruption from tech-driven startups. 5. Long-term thinking: Musk's focus on "areas that would most affect the future of humanity" demonstrates a long-term, big-picture approach to entrepreneurship. This could be extrapolated to suggest that future successful companies might increasingly align themselves with solving global challenges. 6. Artificial Intelligence: While not discussed in this interview, Musk's later involvement in AI research and development (through companies like Neuralink and OpenAI) could be seen as a natural extension of his interest in transformative technologies. We might theorize that AI will play an increasingly central role in Musk's future ventures and in shaping the technologies he discussed in this interview. 7. Regulatory challenges: As Musk's companies have grown, they've faced increasing regulatory scrutiny. We could theorize that the tension between rapid technological advancement and regulatory oversight will continue to be a significant factor in the development of these industries. This interview, while over a decade old, provides valuable insights into the early stages of what has become a transformative period in technology and industry. It demonstrates the power of long-term vision and the potential for determined individuals to drive significant change.
He's too nice considering he was already a billionaire here. Most guys who make their first million bucks, suddenly buy a gold Rolex, vote solid Republican, and are 24/7 assh@les.
Thats a nice one. Im in real estate investments/founded my own corporation, so Ive been around seen many millionaires minted in my time. You pick up on the patterns real fast.
I think ive read hints that production of electric cars was halted in the early days of car production. HEnry Ford? I thought they were testing them my area 2012 before I later heard they were producing them. Not a news bubble for POWs?
The amount of comments here emotionalizing him or moralizing him is the true indicator of our society...it's pathetic. I do like his contributions to the advancements of specific things here & there better than most...but, he doesn't deserve to be treated like a god. People, keep it real!
Elon Musk Interview - Sold a computer game at 12 - Innovation happens in the United States - 3 most important things to humanity: - Internet - Sustainable energy and transportation - Cost of gas at the pump doesn’t reflect the true cost because you have consumption of a public good - Same thing in fishing, when no cost to fishing stock, people just overfish and you have disaster - We’re not paying for co2 concentration in ocean/atmosphere, ancillary costs of wars etc.(**role of government? See below) - What really helps electric cars is Li-Ion; the cell we use is a commodity cell available in laptops - Challenge is in combining them and making sure they last across potholes, temperature, safe in a crash; pack design - Pack design, motor, and electronics that manages the whole thing - 1000lbs, energy content of 2.5 gallons of gas, consumption of that energy is much more efficient in an electric car - Electric motor is fundamentally super efficient at turning electricity into motion, 90% - Gas, by comparison, is 17% energy-> motion, and most energy is converted into heat - Success means we have accelerated the advent of electric cars by at least 5 years - Smarter was intended to be an electric car and they couldn’t get the battery right - Daimla(er?) was good to work with, electric smart; if you can do a prototype that would go a long way, we did in 40 days and then got an R&D contract for 1,000 cars - Space Exploration - Distinction between getting to space (suborbital) and getting to orbit - You don’t sell the rocket, you sell the launch (vs aircraft, you sell the plane) - The reason there hasn’t been a big improvement is because there’s so much capital needed and technical needed so the barrier to entry prevents application of the forcing function - Private sector is very good at optimization, generally better than the government - The government should basic research and that sort of thing (also apparently fishing regulations, see above**) - My core competence is technology - If something has to be designed and invented, and you have to be sure that the value of the thing you create is more than the cost of its inputs - Any new technology is expensive when it starts; the difference between making it work and making it optimal - Disruptive technology tends to come from new companies
He is nobody - snow cliner true Canada frome South Africa Wich trow frome school to Jewish school - they don't study nothing except Torah. He don't have any education, he not even engener, and NASSA poot him long time on his knees - never give him anything, he gldont gave any money - all his stupid business don't worth nothing - Boring Co we don't nead in New York - bigets city , Spesax NASSA not going to support, Tesla he trying to sale 5 years ago , his 15% but even Google don't, X platform death platform fool of Kremlin bots, Scamers, fake Elons and hors , Wich I have to bloke frome my fallowers 60.minimum per day. All idiots even why whas believe him fore 2 decades now shame of themselves and all sad good bay before 2024 on X 😂
Back in 2009 large traditional companies regarded Musk as a bit of a joke... He posed no threat. As time went on, Musk's companies became increasingly threatening - today, most traditional car companies and space companies (and many others) are heading towards bankruptcy because of Musk. Musk has had to fight for survival, with governments, industrialists and general haters attacking him relentlessly. It's no wonder he has changed - he had to in onder to survive.
I love how he does it. He's pushing this young man to prove himself. He's not being disrespectful. He's like a father saying to Elon. "Alright. Show me what you've got." This interview, while over a decade old, provides valuable insights into the early stages of what has become a transformative period in technology and industry. It demonstrates the power of long-term vision and the potential for determined individuals to drive significant change.
He's too nice considering he was already a billionaire here. Most guys who make their first million bucks, suddenly buy a gold Rolex, vote solid Republican, and are 24/7 assh@les.
@Furtivo95
It’s lucky you know most guys who make a million so you can tell us all about it
Thats a nice one. Im in real estate investments/founded my own corporation, so Ive been around seen many millionaires minted in my time. You pick up on the patterns real fast.
If you cant win to 'em, join 'em. Elon Musk.
it just pisses me off how intelligent he is
Genius + guts + "Oops! I forgot I'm operating in a physical body, did I break something" + sheer tenacity = Elon Musk
Become you so stupid, blind , deaf and not investor, never going have maney fore his Tesla even
why is the background jet black, ?? to get your focus and attention on the person, to build the persona , in the mind.
This has always been the setting for the Charlie Rose show
I think ive read hints that production of electric cars was halted in the early days of car production. HEnry Ford? I thought they were testing them my area 2012 before I later heard they were producing them. Not a news bubble for POWs?
God bless Donald J Trump 🙏❤️
Inspiration speech
The amount of comments here emotionalizing him or moralizing him is the true indicator of our society...it's pathetic. I do like his contributions to the advancements of specific things here & there better than most...but, he doesn't deserve to be treated like a god. People, keep it real!
Before he succeeded - respectful, humble
After success - conceited, cocky, egotistical
And for those who haven't succeeded at anything (you) - jealousy and envy.
So he just told us in another words that it was not possible with 1960s technology to land and return from the moon.
No.
@@gregbailey45 media is full of fake news. especially the news with political agenda.
Musk in young looks like AI Generated Faceswap :D
Elon Musk Interview
- Sold a computer game at 12
- Innovation happens in the United States
- 3 most important things to humanity:
- Internet
- Sustainable energy and transportation
- Cost of gas at the pump doesn’t reflect the true cost because you have consumption of a public good
- Same thing in fishing, when no cost to fishing stock, people just overfish and you have disaster
- We’re not paying for co2 concentration in ocean/atmosphere, ancillary costs of wars etc.(**role of government? See below)
- What really helps electric cars is Li-Ion; the cell we use is a commodity cell available in laptops
- Challenge is in combining them and making sure they last across potholes, temperature, safe in a crash; pack design
- Pack design, motor, and electronics that manages the whole thing
- 1000lbs, energy content of 2.5 gallons of gas, consumption of that energy is much more efficient in an electric car
- Electric motor is fundamentally super efficient at turning electricity into motion, 90%
- Gas, by comparison, is 17% energy-> motion, and most energy is converted into heat
- Success means we have accelerated the advent of electric cars by at least 5 years
- Smarter was intended to be an electric car and they couldn’t get the battery right
- Daimla(er?) was good to work with, electric smart; if you can do a prototype that would go a long way, we did in 40 days and then got an R&D contract for 1,000 cars
- Space Exploration
- Distinction between getting to space (suborbital) and getting to orbit
- You don’t sell the rocket, you sell the launch (vs aircraft, you sell the plane)
- The reason there hasn’t been a big improvement is because there’s so much capital needed and technical needed so the barrier to entry prevents application of the forcing function
- Private sector is very good at optimization, generally better than the government
- The government should basic research and that sort of thing (also apparently fishing regulations, see above**)
- My core competence is technology
- If something has to be designed and invented, and you have to be sure that the value of the thing you create is more than the cost of its inputs
- Any new technology is expensive when it starts; the difference between making it work and making it optimal
- Disruptive technology tends to come from new companies
Fast forward 2024….I stay in China, Shanghai, and Tesla’s are like water here
Not completely relevant but Feb 1945 AJP openinh article is on the physics of traffic conditions.
Too bad this version of Elon Musk had to die.
Not dead, just misunderstood.
The true Satoshi

iLove Elon musk Marie from Ireland xxxxxxxx
To me this proves something has gone wrong in Elon's brain the last 3-4 years. This is not the same dude that exists now.
Of course not. He has done about a gazillion things and has developed his brain. Have you?
Совсем молодой Илон на этой фотке 👍🤗
Ketamine ages people more than crack.
great
Too dependent on tax incentives.
ICE vehicles 17 percent efficiency??
Wow !!
He always knew
Said oil prices will be sky high in the future, $200 in a couple years. Well now its 2020 and oil prices are negative :)
Wti future contracts were negative petrol prices are still high
Close to $200 in 2024 😢
The good ole days, when I was a big fan.
I remember this ..and I was amazed about this young man....
If we could pile lies one on another we could easily travel to the end of the universe thks the soul is gaseous
Charlie Rose can't help himself from interrupting Elon's stream of thought and changing the subject. Very annoying!
Não se eu assisto ou suspiro de amor ❤
he was not crazy. what happened?
I dont believe anyone who's studied physics would believe in space exploration.
What can I say that hasn't been said about this man? Nothing, so I won't. Thank you or Slainte 😢
❤
Charlie is loosing his patience, finishing sentences, redirecting. Wow
I love how he does it. He's pushing this young man to prove himself. He's not being disrespectful. He's like a father saying to Elon. "Alright. Show me what you've got."
He's clearly walking the line between challenge and respect.
He's one of the better ones.
Unlike some disrespectful, ill mannered, pea brained interviewers I've seen recently.
