    Awesome stuff as usual mate. I used to use K1 in a sump many years ago, fascinating stuff! Just a bit noisy for the house.
    Have you heard of these biocenosis filter baskets? It's just an anoxic filter for removing nitrates and some phosphates. I'd love to hear your take on them

    Way back in the day before wholesalers were really a thing we used to deal direct with NT Labs and their treatments were very good - great to see that they are still producing useful treatments.
    The 40% difference in surface area per litre (of Hel-x vs K1) really does make a difference to moving beds.
    One of your fish really caught my eye - a sanke with great colour separation and the white on it is extremely white too - looks very healthy. Reminds me of some I used to have in my pond before otters started wiping them out and I gave up on koi.

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sanke is a lovely koi. good strong colour and separation like you said. 👍😀

    Hi Mark, thank you for your video, really helpful for a newbie as i have had a little breakout of parasites for the first time in 4 years. Mark did you feed your koi whilst they were being treated with fmg? Must say lovely looking koi and a great set up you have 👌

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No i don't feed during treatment . This keeps waste down and always add an airstone ok. 😀👍

    How did you find the FMG ?

  • @kilnimusic
    @kilnimusic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was wondering about medicated water, when we do water changes? I had a sick fish, and searched on youtube, for some advise. It seems that some medicate just to be "safe", it seems that there is a lot of medicated water being flushed out. And I´m just wondering, if this is unsafe for the environment. I haven´t really found much concern on that topic.
    I believe we should treat our sick fish, but know more about the waste.
    Do you have any thoughts on this?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of medications are inert after a given time , or when you start up your sterilizer it will clear the water. I wait for a few days after the uv has been working before a water change is carried out.

    • @kilnimusic
      @kilnimusic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for answering. But then, would you suggest to use a UV in an aquarium after medication before water change. Like mine are small 54 liters tanks. I just want to be prepared, in case I need to medicate, and not mess up nature.

    Do you ever get herons or frogs in your pond? I don't know what is beyond your fences, if it is wooded or whatever. Does anything ever try to catch your fish?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We get lots of herons here to.My garden is very closed in by trees and telephone wires so its very hard for them to land and take off. I get the odd one land in the trees, take a look and then fly off.

    also how do toy keep algae from growing in your pond? cant seem to slow it down in mine and i have water plants also but i dont feed the plants. we just have really good water for growing algae lol .. also when you treat your pond with that stuff do you remove the charcoal and fine floss pads??

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      lance wixom you can use a uv sterilizer that will help . If it's in full sun you will suffer from from it.

    • @lancewixom4977
      @lancewixom4977 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cool ill have to see if i can find a good one and one that i can install in my piping somewhere somehow lol and its mostly sun.. i just added some floating plants and some plants im putting in the water course also ill put up pics once i get them planted tomorrow:)

    Not sure why you would put the bacteria balls in, when you have only just put FMG in the pond.
    I would of thought the bacteria balls are for boosting the bacteria level, after the treatment has been performed.

  • @dentednj
    @dentednj 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn;t the sterilizer or medications kill your beneficial bacteria as well as bad bacteria?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The medication is fine with beneficial bacteria. And the sterilizer only kills the bacteria, parasites , and algae that comes in to contact with the light that passes by . 👍😀

    Can I use this treatment with water below 10 degrees please?

    • @MARKSAQUATICS
      @MARKSAQUATICS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DO NOT treat with water temperatures below 10 degrees or over 30 degrees.
      Remove any Carbon or Zeolite from the filter or pond.
      Top up your filter with live bacteria as treatments damages filter bacteria.
      DO NOT USE WITH ORFE, RUDD, TENCH OR STERLETS.
