I really do appreciate that honestly. It's weird that there isnt an intro but I mean, I like it. ❤ plus the cake looks amazing😍 the fall vibes for real.
I would love to see a breakdown of the cost of materials and time. Like, you said $20 cake... was that for one or both? What was the cost of the flowers? How much time did you spend? Just curious how it compares to the bakery quote.
That was definitely more than $20 for both of those cakes. The sheet cake was probably $25 and the round cake $20. That's why I started making my own 2 years ago. They cost too much and just look and taste generic. I’m guess they were a few days old so that's why she got them so cheap.
@@Jessa8891 usually grocery store cakes are a few weeks old at least, at Walmart a few months old. I work with some ladies that worked at various bakeries and we always laugh about people thinking a cake baked the afternoon before isn't fresh enough.
@@CS-06 i worked as a cake decorator at walmart and baskin-robbins both, and the sheet cakes you get from both are pre-made at a factory, frozen, then shipped to your local store where it's thawed before being decorated. once thawed theres a time limit before you have to throw it out due to it being too old and dry in the fridge - been years, but i think it was a few days or so if it's been iced (the icing helps protect it from losing moisture)
I would say 20 dollars was for one sheet cake and doesn't include the 7 dollar tub of whipped icing she normally additionally buys like she talked about in the beginning and doesn't include decorations or additional ingredients
This is a great series, however can we do something besides “wedding cakes” ? Like make some other themed cakes. Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, or just any other overall “theme”. lol
How is “cakeover” not already a thing? Love this. I think I would like it better with fall leaves, instead of flowers, or maybe teeny, mini-pumpkins or other fall squash… just for a little color pop.
i literally love the aesthetic vibes of the cake!!!!!!!! and laurie is just such a positive and cheerful person that I feel she lights up a room whenever she walks into it.. and omg your cake-over skills are amazingggggggg

Thank you so much for your videos. My three year old daughter and I watch every episode together. She loves your videos so much that her birthday in December is going to be Bakery themed and we’ll be decorating cupcakes like you. (Or at least that’s what she wants to do). Wish us luck! And thank you again for your videos!
You should get 2 large metal food scrapers to help you have more control when moving cakes. They have been a life saver for me. The cake turned out beautiful and I bet it tasted delicious
It amazes me how much bakeries charge for the simplest cakes. My sisters wedding cake was an 8” and a 6” tiered plain white with a simple border and then she had the florist put real flowers on it. $250! (Plus flowers) When my wedding came around, it was a home made cake, and it was beautiful!
I think the reason your videos are fun is because you don't have lame introductions people fast forward. And I can relate to the short cake thing as a person who works as a cake decorator. I also think taller cakes are so pretty
girl i swear none of us would get tired even if you upload cake transformations EVERYDAY (yes, this is a sign for you to upload such videos everyday !! ) >
I mean, baking the cake is easy, decorating is the hard part. You’ve got skills, however, I am going to continue to serve grocery store cakes as is 😂😂😂
Yes Laurie, I 💯 percent agree the cake should taste as good on the inside as it looks on the outside. A lot of bakers don't care it's all about looks. I'm more about the taste and freshness of a cake.
I now really want cake! 😮 It looks sooooooooo gooooood!!!! From a grocery store cake to a wedding cake! 😱 And the caramel filling omg... It looks sooooo delicious!
I think simple is better (quite often), but in this case, I think it would look nice with a something a little extra. Not that it didn't look nice! It did! I just think maybe a little lace or something so it wasn't so empty would have added a nice little touch. All in all, though, it was a beautiful cake :) Simple but elegant. And cheap, so that's always a plus lol
This cake is gorgeous!!!! A quick and yummy filling- use heavy cream and any flavor instant pudding mix and a little milk and whip it like you would whipped cream. Another gorgeous Cake-Over, Laurie! I especially liked your comment about the flavor of the cake being more important than the interior (cut) look. I do small simple cutting cakes for local wedding venue and always worry that the inside of my cakes aren't 'pretty' enough.
i used to work in a bakery and if you freeze the cakes you can basically peel the frosting off. just thought it would be easier and not as messy. we would also save the containers they come in to put the frosting in so you can just throw the whole thing away. :)
I really enjoy your This Into That, or Cakeover 😂, series. This one came out great. I wondered if your Frankenstein layer would jeopardize stability, glad it all held together.
You could use the left overs for cake pops, tiramisu or trifle (my aunt tried to get everyone tipsy on her version of trifle, kids were banned from trying it🙃)
I love these videos... Your giggle is infectious... I started watching you when you were experimenting with Russian piping tips.... I think you're very talented🦋 sending you and your husband Warm wishes👃& palm tree kisses🌴😘 from Orlando Florida
You should sell these to those who are on a budget they come out looking great. I wouldn't have mind having one for my wedding. This cake screams fall and I bet the pumpkin portion is so good.
I ended up using cake scraps similar to this to create layers last year after the 2nd a 4th layers of a birthday cake both met with very unfortunate accidents coming out of the pan. I was left with chunks and crumbs so I mixed the lot together with frosting, patted it into a shape in the pan and then froze it. Came out in perfect, nicely moist layers with a sort of fudge texture that contrasted well with the normal cake layers.
Love the colours and contrast with each other; the flowers with the wispy pedals and fall burgundy and muddy green leaves are perfect for the top and bottom colours

I love it when Archie gets some screen time! Thank you for the video!
Of course I knew you were Laurie! I have been watching since you had the intros that said your name! I really love your grocery store cake to wedding cake videos. And I really love the name Cakeover! Btw, Archie looking at the camera while you were talking about your sponsor was the cutest thing ever!!😍😍
I know your name is Laurie fron your older videos but I got the same thing once, someone recognised me from TH-cam but didn't know my name. Now I occasionally say if you're new here my names Lizzy 😆 watching your videos actually inspire me to do more difficult bakes, even if they don't go to plan. You're super talented and I love the videos where you turn store cakes into something so beautiful ❤
You mentioned about 3d ice cream truck in one of your ice cream cake 500$ challenge Or a 3d halloween 🎃 cakes 200$ challenge.
It would be amazing to see what kind of 3d cake you would be able to pull off given the same amount of budget and apparatus.
I’m semi-retired from being the family cake decorator (two of my daughters are interested in learning). One of the things that I dislike is the overall stickiness of decorating. I love watching what you’re doing but I do NOT want to try it! 😁
