Might be interesting to see the good/bad/ugly among the mid tier sets out there: Ridgid, Bauer, etc. I don't have any real data to support this, but my guess is that the serious DIYers in the community would gravitate towards the various "better" lines when "best" is beyond the budget.
One other “Good” about Milwaukee. When you call customer service you speak to a real, live American...EVERY TIME. There’s no waiting, no BS and, kid you not, I’ve spoken to the same person twice....months apart AND HE REMEMBERED ME! YOU DONT GET THAT ANYWHERE ELSE! I called for customer support on my m18 table saw and the guy, literally, went to an engineer and GOT A TABLE SAW so he could trouble shoot with me....he had it on his desk. No stupid diagrams, no making me wait so he could look shit up on the company website....he got the tool and helped me hands on. NO WHERE ELSE!
These are the kind of things that Milwaukee MUST maintain it and keep it as original as possible. Not like some silly Indian/Filipino call center with shitty English language and its accent.
Gerhard Schulz of course it is ! First, I don’t know about you, but I have worked setting up call centers for half of my career. Company’s purposely set up call centers in other countries to CREATE LANGUAGE BARRIERS and thus discourage customers from calling when there is an issue because the average person will find it less expensive, from a personal time point of view, to just buy a new tool (product) rather than call a foreign call center and go through the hassle of waiting on hold and fighting to get the person on the other end to understand you. This ends up = higher revenue for the company. The reality is that the labor in foreign countries where call centers are popular is no longer that much cheaper than it is In America, it just costs less because people don’t want to waste their time dealing with them. If you don’t believe me, try getting Rigid to fulfill its “Lifetime Warranty” or whatever they call it these days. Even better, try calling regarding the next medical bill you receive in the mail.... #2) in all my experience dealing with Milwaukee CS it has never been with anything major. I’m a pro who does remodeling for a living. I specialize in older Victorians and colonial farm homes....i put my tools through hell. I call Milwaukee it even the smallest detail isn’t like it was from factory. Not because I believe their tools should be so good that they look and act “mint” for the entire life of their 5 year warranty but because they let me do it and they give me what I want. This is what builds trust with demanding contractors such as myself and keeps me buying their tools month in and month out. Frankly, harbor freight is just as good. Their power tools suck. I’m sorry Bear but your love of their power tools is unfounded BUT you have a point about their warranty. There is a harbor freight close by almost everywhere in the USA and they replace hand tools no questions asked. My framing hammer is a harbor freight for that very reason....I put it through hell and whenever I need a new one, I just take the old back to harbor freight and they swap without question.

The trigger went out on my M12 fuel screwdriver. I shipped it to them, free of charge and I was expecting it to be fixed but they gave me a brand new one.
We run mainly Milwaukee at work due to the warranty and vendor access. At the moment we have about 6 burned out drills, 2 burned out impacts and a handful of dead batteries. Our local vendor will replace everything for us.
The first power tools I bought was a Milwaukee m18 drill and impact set at a pawn shop for 150. Came with two batteries, a charger and bag. That was four years ago and they still work.
I love my Milwaukee tools. I'm an automotive locksmith. I use a lot of tools similar to what a mechanic would use and I have found Milwaukee has the best line for every type of tool I need. I have both the M18 and M12 line. But yes Milwaukee batteries are insane expensive. I shop around a lot when getting batteries and even hunt down deals on Offer Up. Good video Bear.
I have the m12 & m18 sets. Greatly enjoy them both and am very satisfied. Use the m12 & and m18 for different reasons, different purposes. Very happy with both at this time.
As a contractor and owning a property management company we need tools for every single trade, milwaukee is the company that I have found to take care of us. I do use other brands but I generally buy milwaukee if a tool needs replacing I live in Portland OR and we are pretty limited on stores that carry big selections of tools, I also find them way more expensive but still nice to be around. I am happy to see select home depots are starting to carry the plumbing tools and more of the automotive lineup. The m12 fuel is what go me hooked, being in the trades and as a previous euro vehicle mechanic I have a shop at my house and play/ build / fix cars as a hobby, it has been really amazing that I can use the same batteries cutting down on some of the overall cost. I also love my snap on/ tool truck tools but even I can't justify 4 to 500 for a ratchet and 600 to 1k for a impact, instead I have a full milwaukee lineup. Can't wait to see what comes out next.
I , as a professional drywall finisher, have a 1/2" drive Milwaukee mixing drill that was manufactured in the 1960's. I was given the drill from someone who bought it used in a pawn shop and worked it hard for years. I have replaces the chord, brushes, and trigger more than a few times. But this drill still works fine. After many newer 1/2" drive drills have died, this one still works flawlessly.
My Home Depot is pretty extensive. I was looking for a sander in one section and didn't find anything. Then realized I was in the speciality section. It was so large I figured it was the only Milwaukee section.
Lack of space. They would need to drop most of their other brands just to carry niche tools most people won't buy. Or add an entire milwaukee wing to every store. It just doesn't make good business sense. They do carry the entire line of tools, online. Yeah, you can't go to the store and fondle every tool you dream of someday having, but you can order it online and have it shipped to your door in 2 days with free shipping. Then, you can fondle to hearts content in the privacy of your own home.
I agree with this video on the bad and ugly. There is no basic line with a great entry level price but on the other hand your getting the best and professional tools for a great price.
The most impressed I've been to date by a cordless tool is the 9" Milwaukee grinder running a 12ah battery, also the most expensive - £850 ($1130) for the tool with 2 batteries!
I just bought 2 m18 fuel drivers with 3 batteries with the case, charger as well as a pack of 45 bits for $370 (normal price would have been around $550). Going red isn't cheap, but you can get some really good deals if you take the time and have the patience to find them
I've been using milwaukee since 04. I got the V28 system(which I still have and still works).I have several m12 and m18 tools I just have to have. I've been using the m12 screwdriver for 10 years. That tool becomes my right hand when I'm at work. The rubber over molding has come off on the right hand side of the tool but it over performs. I have invested in a tool chest, pack out system.... . Guess you could say im a fan boy. I don't have any shirts or heated jackets..... only interested in my tools working for me. When I pick up one of my Milwaukee tools, no matter how old or how rough they may look..... they work!
Sometimes I wish I went for the red but I know my orange stuff is just as good. I've had a set of orange 3ah batteries that came with a kit 6 years ago that still hold enough charge to be usefull. I do have a lot of the m12 line up. Littlerally couldn't be happier with every one of them. My little brushless hackzal is an tool and a half.
I still roll with an OG Hole Hog, a couple of the D handle drills - one so old it's the all-metal body, and a VSR Hole Shooter. And by roll I mean roll the cords up when I'm done :D
11 years ago that starter hammerdrill kit with 3 amp batteries was $350. I still use that drill every day with the original batts. In concrete, steel and wood.
I agree with your assessment, but I have one thing to add, the Ridgid portable tool box a nice heavy duty tool box at a more reasonable price than the Milwaukee system, I have owned one for the past two years and it has held up perfectly, I agree with you the Milwaukee system is more versatile and heaver duty, but if your on a budget the Ridgid system is a good choice. We use the Milwaukee cordless sawzalls as a compliment to our rescue tools AkA "The jaws of life". A skilled operator can cut a roof off a car with a sawzall faster then someone running the cutters and spreaders. I have found the key is buying good carbide toothed blade. Great video sir!
Basically, the higher end line of Milwaukee tools is about as good as it gets and they have tools that nobody else does. Makita is the same way though they also have some lower end ones I wouldn't touch. This isn't a matter of 'buy once, cry once' marketing hype. You get the quality you're paying for, but you'd better really need that quality to justify the price. I totally agree the markup on their batteries is ridiculous, but it does encourage one to invest in more tools one can use them with.
I have several Milwaukee tools (enough to warrant owning one of their 6 pack chargers) I like them because their tools tend to have the best power and run time. I have many brands of cordless tools but if I’m getting something that is a power hungry tool like an angle grinder or big saw I go red because their stuff seems to truly deliver the power they say it will.
today I decided to stop at Harbor Freight here in Long Island New York and I couldn't believe the quality of a lot of their tools from heavy-duty machinery 2 like the little screwdriver set for your eyeglasses all different types to choose from really big selection and I was impressed it's just hard because Milwaukee is my platform of tools but when it comes to the Sawzall blades oscillating blades end Ella stuff you really can't go wrong with their prices and the quality that they put out they really stand for quality I just wanted to thank you for that because you're the whole reason I started going just by watching your videos so thank you

I live in New Zealand and work on heavy transport repair sector. Only bought the Milwaukee M18 Impact Gun High Torque as kit. 2x Batteries, 1x Impact Gun, 1x Charger, 1x case, lasted well over the years and Finally open the wallet a bit to buy some more tools, but I only buy it in a kit not in individual, due to high prices of it. I'm also buying Packout due to their quality of rigidity to move tools around.
If only craftsman had just been spun off into its own American based brand who actually focused on making quality, long lasting tools that could compete with the likes of TTI.....maybe I’m a dreamer 🤔
I went Milwaukee when it started looking like Sears and the C3 system was going away and I looked at all the different systems out there. I'm not a professional and domt make a living with them but, I really liked the 12 amd 18 volt tools they have and figured that, with many tools as they have in their system even back then, it was a pretty good bet that it wouldn't be changing any time soon. I've got a few of the main tools, some duplicates between the 12 amd 18 volts amd have been really impressed with how well they get the jobs done.
My neighbor actually scored a deal on a 1/2 inch Milwaukee M 18 drill and impact driver system with 2 batteries and one of the Packout boxes for about $200 at a big box store last Christmas. But it was negotiated with the store manager. I like you have seen a lot of pro trucks with all Milwaukee tools.
I’m not a pro, but have a lot of Milwaukee tools. Mostly M12, but have started buying a few M18 tools when the price is right. I respectfully disagree with you on the pricing issue. You may have a point if you are only considering list prices, but I have never paid list prices. Milwaukee cordless seem to always be on sale somewhere, and you can get them cheaper than anything else, except maybe HF. I regularly find deals at Home Depot, Acme, Northern Tool, and others. My only problem is I have found so many deals on combos, with better prices than bare tools, I have something like 14 chargers new in the wrapper!
Aric Bolf quite often, people would turn their nose up at the price of the big top of the line tool kits at the prices they would charge. Everyone wants all the bells and whistles and don’t want to pay for it LOL
Yeah, I could definitely see the cost for the pros, like you said. I’ve been thinking about getting into Milwaukee because one of my local small businesses sells them and I’d like to support small businesses as much as possible. I want to get a trim router, and all the reviews seem to rate the Milwaukee the best, and the Ryobi not as good. But, wow! The difference in the price is massive. The Ryobi is $69 regular price, and I’ve already got the batteries. The Milwaukee is $199 bare tool or $299 for the kit. So, the Milwaukee is 3X the price, is it 3X better? that $299 is a lot of money for me to drop on a tool I won’t use very often right now, being out of work with COVID lockdowns, etc. hopefully it’ll come on sale soon.

Your argument is flawed. You say your Milwaukee tool used professionally has lasted and works great. I am a retired engineer who has owned 1 Milwaukee tool in my entire life until now. I now replaced my cheaper tools I use all the time with Milwaukee as the cheaper tools just plain suck. They get the job done but create other "jobs" with their own brand of annoying "suck". I am not a fanboy of Milwaukee until now. My son is a plumber, He and his commercial workers only buy Milwaukee and THEY ALL use them because they work ALL THE TIME. Their warranty is very important to the pro. Every hour down costs $$$$$.
I’d say while it’s more expensive than other brands, you gotta know if you buy, it’s a tool that will outlast a lot. I don’t know if I’m a prosumer, but I’m a serious DIY’er and glad I made the investment 6 years ago. Had a couple tools go out on me, and the warranty has taken care of it.
Better prices/quality and warranty for us mechanics over the tool trucks cordless. I like my snap on hand tools and box but for cordless it’s Milwaukee. The cordless grease gun and impacts for service calls and mobile techs is awesome
Check out the new Milwaukee hand tools, new innovations, and the wrenches are way more comfortable in the hand with the I beam construction, and the sockets got them 4 flats on the back now to keep them from rolling and getting lost. Less expensive too, and that is from someone (me) that used Snap On hand tools for aviation maintenance.
The old Skill drill served me well, but it is no more. Went to Harbor Freight to price out a Hercules 12volt drill. It said compares to Milwaukee. So I did. A nice Milwaukee set with two batteries, charger, a drill and impact driver was on sale for $129. The HF came surprisingly close to that. Even as cheap as I am, I had to go with Milwaukee. The feel of these tools is fantastic. Don't let the 12 volt fool you, as these tools have awesome power. Removing lug nuts was no problem. I don't think my arm could handle the 18 volt system!
I don't think that any particular tool from Milwaukee is the best out there. Rather they are all above average to very good, have massive range like you mentioned and if you have to commit to a battery platform (unless you are a millionaire and can afford multiple battery platforms but then you have to think about space for all the chargers and batteries) then it's just hard to go past the brand. I am not a professional in any way but love working on cars and various projects around the house so I chose Milwaukee tools for myself and have zero regrets. Nothing has crapped out on me yet and always got the job done with power to spare. In a lot of cases I could have got by with a cheaper tools but then the warranty period would have been less or would have to work the tool close to or over it's designed threshold. Been there before and didn't really like that.
Hey bear. I'm still relatively new to the channel and I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my last question about power inverters at harbor freight. I haven't seen that many of your videos yet so I was wondering if you had heard of or mentioned anything about the Masterforce brand. There is a store here in the glove (Michigan) called Menards and I'm not sure if you have them where you live but we have a few of them now. I think Masterforce is their own brand. I've never purchased any of their products but masterforce claims to be made in America if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if this is worth your time to look into but I figured it might be worth mentioning since it doesn't look like you have come across this brand yet.
Yes Milwaukee is expensive I don’t deny that one. With that said though you get the best warranty along w the most powerful tools in the industry. The batteries are literally amazing. They use higher mah cells than anyone else. I found a m12 impact on a roof we were working on. I found it 3 weeks into the job. There was literal rust on the ballast rocks under it. I picked it up pulled the trigger to my surprise it worked. That was 3 years ago and I use it everyday. If I was a homeowner looking for cheap buy Ryobi etc. I work w a guy who has 10yr old Makita 18v impact and hammer drill still work just fine today. We also use DeWalt impacts there’s one that stinks when you use it but we can not kill it. Milwaukee cordless stuff I highly recommend if you can afford it. No I’m not a fanboy I like what works period. I am not a fan of the m12 handles though. I also do not like snap on dead blow hammer handles as well. Remember everything is built to a price point w that said when it comes to most things the more you spend the better quality you get. I’m not talking about tool companies and rebranding in that case you’re paying for warranty’s and a name tag. Will a cheaper tool work absolutely but you won’t get the durability or the longevity.
Def a Milwaukee fanboy here haha agree on the battery’s only time I get them is when there’s a buy this get that free deal. Can get a 4 pack of ridgids same cells and from TTi for literally half the cost or even when they have sales better. Luckily being in hvac go to the supply houses and that’s where you will find a lot of the tools you don’t see in store which is a shame. Good video!
The force logic? I’ve personally never used one have to do things old fashioned way but a plumber buddy of mine seems to love his for water heaters and boilers. But I’ve heard nothing but great things about it!
I am pretty invested in the Porter Cable 20V systems, as in I have almost every tool in the line twice so as not to carry them back and forth between home and work. That said, I started buying M12 stuff back in January after the Bosch tools didn't hold up in the field. The M12 line has been bullet proof for me working on hot tubs. They get wet, really wet; and just keep right on working. The right tools for the job always makes a difference. As for the PackOut systems, I use the Ridgid branded system and have been really happy with it for the price and available variety of boxes.
Another good thing which also helps with the bad is; you can always find a sale on Milwaukee tools somewhere. When you look at the deals where you get free starter kit and free batteries with tool only deals you get a lot for the money. I added up everything I paid for what I own from them it was about 40% off the normal price.
I'm just a regular consumer for private use, but daytime I work as a car mechanic for a higher-priced manufacturer. So I'm used to high quality tools and want a decent and affordable standard for my home DIY. Over the years I settled for Milwaukee on power tools and makita for hand tools. The batterias could be a bit cheaper and the rubber grips have to be kept clean, so they don't disintegrate.
Milwaukee tools are not that hard to get hold of with a little patience. I know that we live in a instant gratification society but, a little patience and some common sense will get you the tools that you need without problems or hunting them down. Get a home depot card. Everything that you buy from the store gets you 6 months same as cash. Buy one or two tools or a battery with a tool one at a time. When the bill comes in make sure you pay enough on the bill to pay for the tool before the 6 months are up. Otherwise they will hit you for intrest on the whole bill. So long as you pay off the tool before 6 months is up, you get it intrest free. Just dont get stupid and buy every tool in the store. Also Milwaukee's full line of tools is available online through home depot's website. I have gotten a few tools off the website that are not available in store with free shipping. Easy peasy
I wouldn't call the M12 line cheap but it's definitely more reachable for the average consumer. And let's be honest, you don't need 18 volts to put in a drywall anchor. So I'd say it's more like 70% pro, 15% prosumer and 15% consumer.
I do love my (approx 20 yrs) old Ingersoll Rand 3/8 reactionless air ratchet , it won't bust your knuckles whatsoever ..... I hate any other air ratchet. How's this newfangled electric stuff, do they bust knuckles ?
Loved the vijayo, like most of your videos. I agree on most of it. I switched to Milwaukee cordless tools about a year and a half ago. When you pick a company nowadays for cordless you are pretty much picking them for every cordless tool you are going to own because of the way the battery setup is for these companies. Having 20 batteries from 4 different companies for your 30 different tools isn't that efficient. And that's before we factor in the chargers. That being said, I find impressive deals on Milwaukee cordless tools all the time now. Not just a really good price on the tool, but most of the time (especially at Home Depot) they will throw in a free battery. I have so many M18 batteries that when I bought my M18 grinder and M18 Jigsaw they each came with a free 5.0 battery and those 2 batteries are still in the package hanging in my garage. Home Depot almost always has great deals on Milwaukee M18 and M12 packages. Plus I bet we will see some really good deals around black friday on them as well. Yes, it is geared more toward the professional and prosumer, but I think they actually have a good line on the consumer at the moment as well. While they are a bit more expensive than say Ryobi or Harbor Freight's line of cordless, they are built way better and like you said, they stand behind the tools more, so that little bit of a premium that you pay over the cheaper stuff is well represented. Great video, I love the brand, sadly don’t own any. I’ve been drooling over the m12 stubby impact wrench. Just can’t justify $250 dollar tool price, then ya still need a battery and charger.
Can you please make a video focusing on RIGID and their lifetime sevice agreement on their tools? I've been sold on their quality and the bonus of a lifetime warranty on everything, including their batteries.
I'm a diy'er who's been out of the trades for almost 40 years. When I buy a cordless tool it's either an m12 or m18. Just because I don't make a living with my tools doesn't mean I am going to settle for garbage. It's so annoying to hear people say you don't need such expensive tools for work around the house. Buy once, cry once.
I have one cordless drill but most of my electric tools are corded love my sawzall and drywall screwgun from Milwaukee now there comming out with a lot hand tools lately
I've had great luck with warranty claims...I live in metro milwaukee....but I'm able to drive to their headquarters store and they just swap out the part that is in question...
The jigsaw has the worst blade stabilization, some of the rubber overmoulds are poorly affixed, and some of the red lithium usb cords are coming with a cut nylon putter web. I'm about 15 tools deep and a bunch of batteries for some years. Not happy about Chinese production but they've been dependable.
Love their batteries, we just switched from dewalt to Milwaukee 20v. Only problem I have is the chucks on the drills. They cant keep a bit tight for 5 seconds, screws up all our bits.
I wish I'd bought into the M18 line vs the 20v Max line like I did. When my DeWalts begin to die off, I'll be slowly transitioning over to the M18 entirely (got a few impacts). The M12 line works great for the limited automotive and secondary DIY building stuff I do too.
Im a Milwaukee fan and the limited access is why I have so many other tools brands home Depot and ace are only stores sell Milwaukee in my state and moat stores have the same items
Hi Bear, Really liked this video. I learned something about the battery royalty. Didn't know any one who has 18v on their batteries royalty goes to milwaukee. Is that why DeWalt has 20v in the US? I know in the UK there labeled 18v. I have to agree my tools are turning red, LOL.. I still have a few DeWalt tools that i do like over milwaukee. That's why I'm truly happy using both brands. You focus on the battery lineup. I am still a believer in corded tools in the shop. I am a fan boy of all quality tools. I own around 125 power tools and DeWalt and Milwaukee are my preferred hand power tool brands. I shifted to M12 Fuel for my personal battery platform. Lower cost than M18 and DeWalt 20V, and shockingly rugged. The M12 is lighter than the higher voltage platforms, and this outweighs any occasional power shortage. My M18 sits on the shelf simply due to the extra weight. Over the years I have purchased at least 250 professional grade power tools. And right now I still think red and yellow are the 2 best cordless platform options. Milwaukee waited too long and lost their leadership position, but when DeWalt's president jumped ship to Milwaukee we saw the effect of his influence carry to red guys.
I recently bought a Milwaukee drill, string trimmer and hacksaw. I have Ryobi and used for years, However, Ryobi string trimmers are crap. They are built like crap and the string gets tangled and breaks all the time. The Milwaukee Fuel trimmer is a joy to use period. So, if you use tools ALL THE TIME. Milwaukee is the way to go. The price is irrelevant if the tool does not work.
I have a ton of Milwaukee tools some general use tools and most of the automotive tools. They help me get the job done right and fast. I would like Milwaukee to at least bring the higher end fuel line tool into USA Manufacturing if not all!
Good video. You don't seem to do videos about bosch and the skill bosch company. Their designs are very left hand friendly and as a lefty that has me buying their tools
Seems to me they are taking over in all the trades. I have used their warranty on a 4 year old impact driver that looked 100 years old and couldn’t read the serial numbers. I dug up the receipt, sent it in through the web site and they even paid the freight to send it. Two weeks later I had a brand new driver. That is customer service and that’s why they will just continue to take market share from the other guys.
For most people, and bears, I think that the M12 line is prosumer (with some notable exceptions i.e. M12 Torque wrench, SDS) but from what I've seen recently the Installer driver is one of the closest things to consumer that they've released, it fits most needs of the average person.
kyle p. I’d say if you wanted a FUEL drill and impact, the M12 pair is a easier price to manage, but brushed M18 drill/impact kits have more performance and less cost. I’d say both would be decent entry level kits for anyone.
Da Bear, you were/are correct about the build quality and engineering that Milwaukee has invested into their 18V battery platform. Even your good old buddy AvE says that Milwaukee has the best batteries. He says that as good as the Dewalt batteries are, the Milwaukee battery platform is just that much better!
The only reason I don't have red tools is because I'm just too invested into DeWalt at this point in time. When I have a DeWalt tool fail I will definitely be replacing it with Milwaukee and slowly build up my collection that way. My friend has all Milwaukee tools and I love using them when we work on stuff. Most of the time even if I have my DeWalt tools right next to me I still grab his if he's not using it lol
Your less frequently used DW tools, if your friend has the red version of it, sell your DW version off like on Craigslist or similar websites for around 50% new and then reinvest in something you want from Milwaukee that you would use often.
Bear I would love to see a review of Total Tools from China(?) (or Malaysia i think?). I've been seeing them sold in stores together with big brands. Kinda intriguing cause its new.

One other “Good” about Milwaukee. When you call customer service you speak to a real, live American...EVERY TIME. There’s no waiting, no BS and, kid you not, I’ve spoken to the same person twice....months apart AND HE REMEMBERED ME! YOU DONT GET THAT ANYWHERE ELSE!
I called for customer support on my m18 table saw and the guy, literally, went to an engineer and GOT A TABLE SAW so he could trouble shoot with me....he had it on his desk. No stupid diagrams, no making me wait so he could look shit up on the company website....he got the tool and helped me hands on. NO WHERE ELSE!

Gerhard Schulz of course it is ! First, I don’t know about you, but I have worked setting up call centers for half of my career. Company’s purposely set up call centers in other countries to CREATE LANGUAGE BARRIERS and thus discourage customers from calling when there is an issue because the average person will find it less expensive, from a personal time point of view, to just buy a new tool (product) rather than call a foreign call center and go through the hassle of waiting on hold and fighting to get the person on the other end to understand you. This ends up = higher revenue for the company. The reality is that the labor in foreign countries where call centers are popular is no longer that much cheaper than it is In America, it just costs less because people don’t want to waste their time dealing with them. If you don’t believe me, try getting Rigid to fulfill its “Lifetime Warranty” or whatever they call it these days. Even better, try calling regarding the next medical bill you receive in the mail....
#2) in all my experience dealing with Milwaukee CS it has never been with anything major. I’m a pro who does remodeling for a living. I specialize in older Victorians and colonial farm homes....i put my tools through hell. I call Milwaukee it even the smallest detail isn’t like it was from factory. Not because I believe their tools should be so good that they look and act “mint” for the entire life of their 5 year warranty but because they let me do it and they give me what I want. This is what builds trust with demanding contractors such as myself and keeps me buying their tools month in and month out.
Frankly, harbor freight is just as good. Their power tools suck. I’m sorry Bear but your love of their power tools is unfounded BUT you have a point about their warranty. There is a harbor freight close by almost everywhere in the USA and they replace hand tools no questions asked. My framing hammer is a harbor freight for that very reason....I put it through hell and whenever I need a new one, I just take the old back to harbor freight and they swap without question.

The trigger went out on my M12 fuel screwdriver. I shipped it to them, free of charge and I was expecting it to be fixed but they gave me a brand new one.
We run mainly Milwaukee at work due to the warranty and vendor access. At the moment we have about 6 burned out drills, 2 burned out impacts and a handful of dead batteries. Our local vendor will replace everything for us.
The first power tools I bought was a Milwaukee m18 drill and impact set at a pawn shop for 150. Came with two batteries, a charger and bag. That was four years ago and they still work.
I love my Milwaukee tools. I'm an automotive locksmith. I use a lot of tools similar to what a mechanic would use and I have found Milwaukee has the best line for every type of tool I need. I have both the M18 and M12 line. But yes Milwaukee batteries are insane expensive. I shop around a lot when getting batteries and even hunt down deals on Offer Up. Good video Bear.
I have the m12 & m18 sets. Greatly enjoy them both and am very satisfied. Use the m12 & and m18 for different reasons, different purposes. Very happy with both at this time.
As a contractor and owning a property management company we need tools for every single trade, milwaukee is the company that I have found to take care of us. I do use other brands but I generally buy milwaukee if a tool needs replacing I live in Portland OR and we are pretty limited on stores that carry big selections of tools, I also find them way more expensive but still nice to be around. I am happy to see select home depots are starting to carry the plumbing tools and more of the automotive lineup. The m12 fuel is what go me hooked, being in the trades and as a previous euro vehicle mechanic I have a shop at my house and play/ build / fix cars as a hobby, it has been really amazing that I can use the same batteries cutting down on some of the overall cost. I also love my snap on/ tool truck tools but even I can't justify 4 to 500 for a ratchet and 600 to 1k for a impact, instead I have a full milwaukee lineup. Can't wait to see what comes out next.
I , as a professional drywall finisher, have a 1/2" drive Milwaukee mixing drill that was manufactured in the 1960's. I was given the drill from someone who bought it used in a pawn shop and worked it hard for years. I have replaces the chord, brushes, and trigger more than a few times. But this drill still works fine. After many newer 1/2" drive drills have died, this one still works flawlessly.

My Home Depot is pretty extensive. I was looking for a sander in one section and didn't find anything. Then realized I was in the speciality section. It was so large I figured it was the only Milwaukee section.

Lack of space. They would need to drop most of their other brands just to carry niche tools most people won't buy. Or add an entire milwaukee wing to every store. It just doesn't make good business sense. They do carry the entire line of tools, online. Yeah, you can't go to the store and fondle every tool you dream of someday having, but you can order it online and have it shipped to your door in 2 days with free shipping. Then, you can fondle to hearts content in the privacy of your own home.
I agree with this video on the bad and ugly. There is no basic line with a great entry level price but on the other hand your getting the best and professional tools for a great price.
The most impressed I've been to date by a cordless tool is the 9" Milwaukee grinder running a 12ah battery, also the most expensive - £850 ($1130) for the tool with 2 batteries!
I just bought 2 m18 fuel drivers with 3 batteries with the case, charger as well as a pack of 45 bits for $370 (normal price would have been around $550). Going red isn't cheap, but you can get some really good deals if you take the time and have the patience to find them
I've been using milwaukee since 04. I got the V28 system(which I still have and still works).I have several m12 and m18 tools I just have to have. I've been using the m12 screwdriver for 10 years. That tool becomes my right hand when I'm at work. The rubber over molding has come off on the right hand side of the tool but it over performs. I have invested in a tool chest, pack out system.... . Guess you could say im a fan boy. I don't have any shirts or heated jackets..... only interested in my tools working for me. When I pick up one of my Milwaukee tools, no matter how old or how rough they may look..... they work!
Sometimes I wish I went for the red but I know my orange stuff is just as good. I've had a set of orange 3ah batteries that came with a kit 6 years ago that still hold enough charge to be usefull. I do have a lot of the m12 line up. Littlerally couldn't be happier with every one of them. My little brushless hackzal is an tool and a half.
I still roll with an OG Hole Hog, a couple of the D handle drills - one so old it's the all-metal body, and a VSR Hole Shooter. And by roll I mean roll the cords up when I'm done :D
11 years ago that starter hammerdrill kit with 3 amp batteries was $350. I still use that drill every day with the original batts. In concrete, steel and wood.
I agree with your assessment, but I have one thing to add, the Ridgid portable tool box a nice heavy duty tool box at a more reasonable price than the Milwaukee system, I have owned one for the past two years and it has held up perfectly, I agree with you the Milwaukee system is more versatile and heaver duty, but if your on a budget the Ridgid system is a good choice. We use the Milwaukee cordless sawzalls as a compliment to our rescue tools AkA "The jaws of life". A skilled operator can cut a roof off a car with a sawzall faster then someone running the cutters and spreaders. I have found the key is buying good carbide toothed blade. Great video sir!
Basically, the higher end line of Milwaukee tools is about as good as it gets and they have tools that nobody else does. Makita is the same way though they also have some lower end ones I wouldn't touch. This isn't a matter of 'buy once, cry once' marketing hype. You get the quality you're paying for, but you'd better really need that quality to justify the price. I totally agree the markup on their batteries is ridiculous, but it does encourage one to invest in more tools one can use them with.
I have several Milwaukee tools (enough to warrant owning one of their 6 pack chargers) I like them because their tools tend to have the best power and run time. I have many brands of cordless tools but if I’m getting something that is a power hungry tool like an angle grinder or big saw I go red because their stuff seems to truly deliver the power they say it will.
today I decided to stop at Harbor Freight here in Long Island New York and I couldn't believe the quality of a lot of their tools from heavy-duty machinery 2 like the little screwdriver set for your eyeglasses all different types to choose from really big selection and I was impressed it's just hard because Milwaukee is my platform of tools but when it comes to the Sawzall blades oscillating blades end Ella stuff you really can't go wrong with their prices and the quality that they put out they really stand for quality I just wanted to thank you for that because you're the whole reason I started going just by watching your videos so thank you
Awesome video! I have gone red in my toolbox! I think Milwaukee is excellent. You are not only getting an excellent tool with Milwaukee, you are getting an investment. If you take care of the tool, the tool will retain it's value because it will not break down on you!

I live in New Zealand and work on heavy transport repair sector. Only bought the Milwaukee M18 Impact Gun High Torque as kit. 2x Batteries, 1x Impact Gun, 1x Charger, 1x case, lasted well over the years and Finally open the wallet a bit to buy some more tools, but I only buy it in a kit not in individual, due to high prices of it. I'm also buying Packout due to their quality of rigidity to move tools around.

I went Milwaukee when it started looking like Sears and the C3 system was going away and I looked at all the different systems out there. I'm not a professional and domt make a living with them but, I really liked the 12 amd 18 volt tools they have and figured that, with many tools as they have in their system even back then, it was a pretty good bet that it wouldn't be changing any time soon. I've got a few of the main tools, some duplicates between the 12 amd 18 volts amd have been really impressed with how well they get the jobs done.
My neighbor actually scored a deal on a 1/2 inch Milwaukee M 18 drill and impact driver system with 2 batteries and one of the Packout boxes for about $200 at a big box store last Christmas. But it was negotiated with the store manager. I like you have seen a lot of pro trucks with all Milwaukee tools.
I’m not a pro, but have a lot of Milwaukee tools. Mostly M12, but have started buying a few M18 tools when the price is right. I respectfully disagree with you on the pricing issue. You may have a point if you are only considering list prices, but I have never paid list prices.
Milwaukee cordless seem to always be on sale somewhere, and you can get them cheaper than anything else, except maybe HF. I regularly find deals at Home Depot, Acme, Northern Tool, and others.
My only problem is I have found so many deals on combos, with better prices than bare tools, I have something like 14 chargers new in the wrapper!

Yeah, I could definitely see the cost for the pros, like you said. I’ve been thinking about getting into Milwaukee because one of my local small businesses sells them and I’d like to support small businesses as much as possible. I want to get a trim router, and all the reviews seem to rate the Milwaukee the best, and the Ryobi not as good. But, wow! The difference in the price is massive. The Ryobi is $69 regular price, and I’ve already got the batteries. The Milwaukee is $199 bare tool or $299 for the kit. So, the Milwaukee is 3X the price, is it 3X better? that $299 is a lot of money for me to drop on a tool I won’t use very often right now, being out of work with COVID lockdowns, etc. hopefully it’ll come on sale soon.

Your argument is flawed. You say your Milwaukee tool used professionally has lasted and works great. I am a retired engineer who has owned 1 Milwaukee tool in my entire life until now. I now replaced my cheaper tools I use all the time with Milwaukee as the cheaper tools just plain suck. They get the job done but create other "jobs" with their own brand of annoying "suck". I am not a fanboy of Milwaukee until now. My son is a plumber, He and his commercial workers only buy Milwaukee and THEY ALL use them because they work ALL THE TIME. Their warranty is very important to the pro. Every hour down costs $$$$$.

I’d say while it’s more expensive than other brands, you gotta know if you buy, it’s a tool that will outlast a lot. I don’t know if I’m a prosumer, but I’m a serious DIY’er and glad I made the investment 6 years ago. Had a couple tools go out on me, and the warranty has taken care of it.
Better prices/quality and warranty for us mechanics over the tool trucks cordless. I like my snap on hand tools and box but for cordless it’s Milwaukee. The cordless grease gun and impacts for service calls and mobile techs is awesome
Check out the new Milwaukee hand tools, new innovations, and the wrenches are way more comfortable in the hand with the I beam construction, and the sockets got them 4 flats on the back now to keep them from rolling and getting lost. Less expensive too, and that is from someone (me) that used Snap On hand tools for aviation maintenance.
The old Skill drill served me well, but it is no more. Went to Harbor Freight to price out a Hercules 12volt drill. It said compares to Milwaukee. So I did. A nice Milwaukee set with two batteries, charger, a drill and impact driver was on sale for $129. The HF came surprisingly close to that. Even as cheap as I am, I had to go with Milwaukee. The feel of these tools is fantastic. Don't let the 12 volt fool you, as these tools have awesome power. Removing lug nuts was no problem. I don't think my arm could handle the 18 volt system!

I don't think that any particular tool from Milwaukee is the best out there. Rather they are all above average to very good, have massive range like you mentioned and if you have to commit to a battery platform (unless you are a millionaire and can afford multiple battery platforms but then you have to think about space for all the chargers and batteries) then it's just hard to go past the brand. I am not a professional in any way but love working on cars and various projects around the house so I chose Milwaukee tools for myself and have zero regrets. Nothing has crapped out on me yet and always got the job done with power to spare. In a lot of cases I could have got by with a cheaper tools but then the warranty period would have been less or would have to work the tool close to or over it's designed threshold. Been there before and didn't really like that.

I haven't seen that many of your videos yet so I was wondering if you had heard of or mentioned anything about the Masterforce brand. There is a store here in the glove (Michigan) called Menards and I'm not sure if you have them where you live but we have a few of them now. I think Masterforce is their own brand. I've never purchased any of their products but masterforce claims to be made in America if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if this is worth your time to look into but I figured it might be worth mentioning since it doesn't look like you have come across this brand yet.
Yes Milwaukee is expensive I don’t deny that one. With that said though you get the best warranty along w the most powerful tools in the industry. The batteries are literally amazing. They use higher mah cells than anyone else. I found a m12 impact on a roof we were working on. I found it 3 weeks into the job. There was literal rust on the ballast rocks under it. I picked it up pulled the trigger to my surprise it worked. That was 3 years ago and I use it everyday. If I was a homeowner looking for cheap buy Ryobi etc. I work w a guy who has 10yr old Makita 18v impact and hammer drill still work just fine today. We also use DeWalt impacts there’s one that stinks when you use it but we can not kill it. Milwaukee cordless stuff I highly recommend if you can afford it. No I’m not a fanboy I like what works period. I am not a fan of the m12 handles though. I also do not like snap on dead blow hammer handles as well. Remember everything is built to a price point w that said when it comes to most things the more you spend the better quality you get. I’m not talking about tool companies and rebranding in that case you’re paying for warranty’s and a name tag. Will a cheaper tool work absolutely but you won’t get the durability or the longevity.
I see the Milwaukee drill with the 2 batteries routinely for $99 with a tool bag instead of a hard case.

Can get a 4 pack of ridgids same cells and from TTi for literally half the cost or even when they have sales better. Luckily being in hvac go to the supply houses and that’s where you will find a lot of the tools you don’t see in store which is a shame. Good video!

I am pretty invested in the Porter Cable 20V systems, as in I have almost every tool in the line twice so as not to carry them back and forth between home and work. That said, I started buying M12 stuff back in January after the Bosch tools didn't hold up in the field. The M12 line has been bullet proof for me working on hot tubs. They get wet, really wet; and just keep right on working. The right tools for the job always makes a difference.
As for the PackOut systems, I use the Ridgid branded system and have been really happy with it for the price and available variety of boxes.
Another good thing which also helps with the bad is; you can always find a sale on Milwaukee tools somewhere. When you look at the deals where you get free starter kit and free batteries with tool only deals you get a lot for the money.
I added up everything I paid for what I own from them it was about 40% off the normal price.
I'm just a regular consumer for private use, but daytime I work as a car mechanic for a higher-priced manufacturer. So I'm used to high quality tools and want a decent and affordable standard for my home DIY. Over the years I settled for Milwaukee on power tools and makita for hand tools. The batterias could be a bit cheaper and the rubber grips have to be kept clean, so they don't disintegrate.
The Ridgid box system is pretty amazing honestly. Regardless what tools you're carrying the box system exceeds Ridgids mid tier status by far.

Milwaukee tools are not that hard to get hold of with a little patience. I know that we live in a instant gratification society but, a little patience and some common sense will get you the tools that you need without problems or hunting them down. Get a home depot card. Everything that you buy from the store gets you 6 months same as cash. Buy one or two tools or a battery with a tool one at a time. When the bill comes in make sure you pay enough on the bill to pay for the tool before the 6 months are up. Otherwise they will hit you for intrest on the whole bill. So long as you pay off the tool before 6 months is up, you get it intrest free. Just dont get stupid and buy every tool in the store. Also Milwaukee's full line of tools is available online through home depot's website. I have gotten a few tools off the website that are not available in store with free shipping. Easy peasy
If you use that HD card also get a upgraded to a 1 year return/exchange period from HD.
I wouldn't call the M12 line cheap but it's definitely more reachable for the average consumer. And let's be honest, you don't need 18 volts to put in a drywall anchor. So I'd say it's more like 70% pro, 15% prosumer and 15% consumer.

Loved the vijayo, like most of your videos. I agree on most of it. I switched to Milwaukee cordless tools about a year and a half ago. When you pick a company nowadays for cordless you are pretty much picking them for every cordless tool you are going to own because of the way the battery setup is for these companies. Having 20 batteries from 4 different companies for your 30 different tools isn't that efficient. And that's before we factor in the chargers. That being said, I find impressive deals on Milwaukee cordless tools all the time now. Not just a really good price on the tool, but most of the time (especially at Home Depot) they will throw in a free battery. I have so many M18 batteries that when I bought my M18 grinder and M18 Jigsaw they each came with a free 5.0 battery and those 2 batteries are still in the package hanging in my garage. Home Depot almost always has great deals on Milwaukee M18 and M12 packages. Plus I bet we will see some really good deals around black friday on them as well. Yes, it is geared more toward the professional and prosumer, but I think they actually have a good line on the consumer at the moment as well. While they are a bit more expensive than say Ryobi or Harbor Freight's line of cordless, they are built way better and like you said, they stand behind the tools more, so that little bit of a premium that you pay over the cheaper stuff is well represented. What? I bought the stubby impact with 1 4AH, 1 2AH batteries and a charger for 265.00. Impact alone is 179.00 on Amazon and Home Depot.
Can you please make a video focusing on RIGID and their lifetime sevice agreement on their tools? I've been sold on their quality and the bonus of a lifetime warranty on everything, including their batteries.
I'm a diy'er who's been out of the trades for almost 40 years. When I buy a cordless tool it's either an m12 or m18. Just because I don't make a living with my tools doesn't mean I am going to settle for garbage. It's so annoying to hear people say you don't need such expensive tools for work around the house. I've had great luck with warranty claims...I live in metro milwaukee....but I'm able to drive to their headquarters store and they just swap out the part that is in question...

The jigsaw has the worst blade stabilization, some of the rubber overmoulds are poorly affixed, and some of the red lithium usb cords are coming with a cut nylon putter web. I'm about 15 tools deep and a bunch of batteries for some years. Not happy about Chinese production but they've been dependable.
Love their batteries, we just switched from dewalt to Milwaukee 20v. Only problem I have is the chucks on the drills. They cant keep a bit tight for 5 seconds, screws up all our bits.
Call Milwaukee and tell them that. No feedback, no improvements IMO
I wish I'd bought into the M18 line vs the 20v Max line like I did. When my DeWalts begin to die off, I'll be slowly transitioning over to the M18 entirely (got a few impacts). The M12 line works great for the limited automotive and secondary DIY building stuff I do too.

Im a Milwaukee fan and the limited access is why I have so many other tools brands home Depot and ace are only stores sell Milwaukee in my state and moat stores have the same items

Really liked this video. I learned something about the battery royalty. Didn't know any one who has 18v on their batteries royalty goes to milwaukee. Is that why DeWalt has 20v in the US? I know in the UK there labeled 18v.
I have to agree my tools are turning red, LOL.. I still have a few DeWalt tools that i do like over milwaukee. That's why I'm truly happy using both brands.

You focus on the battery lineup. I am still a believer in corded tools in the shop. I am a fan boy of all quality tools. I own around 125 power tools and DeWalt and Milwaukee are my preferred hand power tool brands. I shifted to M12 Fuel for my personal battery platform. Lower cost than M18 and DeWalt 20V, and shockingly rugged. The M12 is lighter than the higher voltage platforms, and this outweighs any occasional power shortage. My M18 sits on the shelf simply due to the extra weight.
Over the years I have purchased at least 250 professional grade power tools. And right now I still think red and yellow are the 2 best cordless platform options.
Milwaukee waited too long and lost their leadership position, but when DeWalt's president jumped ship to Milwaukee we saw the effect of his influence carry to red guys.
I’m on 20v Yellow, and 12v Red. Can’t touch the 12v compact battery. I haven’t had to touch my 20v drill & impact since I got into the 12v.

I recently bought a Milwaukee drill, string trimmer and hacksaw. I have Ryobi and used for years, However, Ryobi string trimmers are crap. They are built like crap and the string gets tangled and breaks all the time. The Milwaukee Fuel trimmer is a joy to use period. So, if you use tools ALL THE TIME. Milwaukee is the way to go. The price is irrelevant if the tool does not work.
I have a ton of Milwaukee tools some general use tools and most of the automotive tools. They help me get the job done right and fast. I would like Milwaukee to at least bring the higher end fuel line tool into USA Manufacturing if not all!

Seems to me they are taking over in all the trades. I have used their warranty on a 4 year old impact driver that looked 100 years old and couldn’t read the serial numbers. I dug up the receipt, sent it in through the web site and they even paid the freight to send it. Two weeks later I had a brand new driver. That is customer service and that’s why they will just continue to take market share from the other guys.
For most people, and bears, I think that the M12 line is prosumer (with some notable exceptions i.e. M12 Torque wrench, SDS) but from what I've seen recently the Installer driver is one of the closest things to consumer that they've released, it fits most needs of the average person.
I know a few HVAC and electrician pros that would argue the “M12 is prosumer” statement LOL

kyle p. I’d say if you wanted a FUEL drill and impact, the M12 pair is a easier price to manage, but brushed M18 drill/impact kits have more performance and less cost. I’d say both would be decent entry level kits for anyone.
Da Bear, you were/are correct about the build quality and engineering that Milwaukee has invested into their 18V battery platform. Even your good old buddy AvE says that Milwaukee has the best batteries. He says that as good as the Dewalt batteries are, the Milwaukee battery platform is just that much better!

The only reason I don't have red tools is because I'm just too invested into DeWalt at this point in time. When I have a DeWalt tool fail I will definitely be replacing it with Milwaukee and slowly build up my collection that way. My friend has all Milwaukee tools and I love using them when we work on stuff. Most of the time even if I have my DeWalt tools right next to me I still grab his if he's not using it lol
Your less frequently used DW tools, if your friend has the red version of it, sell your DW version off like on Craigslist or similar websites for around 50% new and then reinvest in something you want from Milwaukee that you would use often.
I have m18 batteries that are 10 years old and keep on going. Use in sawzall and circ saw. Great batteries
Next year’s Release 15Ah battery and 12v 9ah. And the consumer line is 12v. I hardly use a 18v because the m12 stuff is all i need.
I am sorry but my 20 year old porte cable tigersaw sawzall is a beast...just used it last week at work.sometimes corded is better

Bear I would love to see a review of Total Tools from China(?) (or Malaysia i think?). I've been seeing them sold in stores together with big brands. Kinda intriguing cause its new.
Good video bear. The only problem with Milwaukee is the price of the battery packs. Corded tools are great.
Best thing is buying when they are offering free batteries, best bang for your buck there.
