The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 - 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 - 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 - 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 - 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 - 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.
That Dornfelder might not have been fun to drink, but it was top-notch entertainment watching you drink it! 🤣
You didn't spit any across the room, which is my standard.
Risky my taste buds for your entertainment…

Great how Konstantin will cover from DRC to Amazon wines!! 🥂
Always!
I watched the entire video because I enjoy Konstantin's commentary - even though I knew from the beginning that I would NEVER buy wine from Amazon.
No one should by Amazon wine simply on principle! Support worthy wine makers is my motto!
I am a longtime fan of the channel from Washington state. My husband and I are currently in Europe, primarily to visit Champagne, but right now we are in Baden Baden to go hiking and visit the baths, we were walking down Lichtentaler Allee today and who do I see, but you! I laughed and said to my husband "That is Konstatin Baum, Master of Wine, what are the odds?!" Thank you for your channel.
Small world… You should have said Hi!
@@KonstantinBaumMasterofWine I should have! I regretted not doing so. It's against my instincts to holler at strangers down the street, I should have overcome that and done it.😂
Never tried Amazon for wine myself but it looks like these mostly fall below the entry level for drinkability.
Some nice funny moments in this. Go on, Konstantin; have a Grand Cru or something for dinner, you deserve it after this.
Cheers everyone! 🍷🌟👍
Hey Konstantin, I would love you to do a video on cheap vines, but rather than choosing them yourself, ask your community about their favorite ultra-low budget wines! E.g., I really like some 3-4€ wines that I usually get to cook with but that I can enjoy with my meal as well if I have something left over. In my opinion there are some real budget gems, though they are hidden between a lot of bad wine.
That’s a great idea!
" If I'm invited and there is nothing else to drink " 😅 ❤🥂
Had no idea Konstantin was so funny! This video was great.
Good advice. Thanks for the tasting!
"Next week - Konstantin recommends his favourite Tetra-Pak wines!"
I think I need a few good wine tastings in between
"I'm guessing it wasn't Jeff Bezos who was making the wine himself with his muscular hands." Haaaaa!!!! That one made me laugh out loud. Well done, Konstantin.
I like the slightly darker exposure in the video 🎉🎥
Thanks for the effort! 😁
To sum up, it was a pleasure to use the spitter in some of them...
That was fun. Please do this more often. I don't really care for tastings of wines that I can't afford to buy.
I would absolutely love to see you do a review of Meiomi..
Next video is Costco/Kirkland wine vs. Amazon
Hello Konstantin, I would welcome a video about your personal price-performance winners, not from Amazon or supermarket, but in general.
I loved this video.
Konstantin catching the Amazon bullet for us...great video with some fun comments. And in answer to your question.....NO cause life's too short to drink bad wine ;-)
I would love to see you do viewer blind tastings. I’m not quite sure of the logistics, but I’m sure it would be a huge hit. It would be amazing to see your analysis of the wines viewers consider to be their Goliath’s as you say.
That squirrel 😂🐿️
Hallo Konstantin,
thank you for your videos.
I am not sure if that is a topic for your channel, but I would be very interested in some guidance on the topic of cooking with wine and choosing appropriate ones.
It’s a good question…I buy ok chardonnay and Cabernet or Shiraz (~$10/bott) and freeze it in wee plastic wine bottles (the ones served on economy flights), as well as good leftover wine. I figure it’s better frozen than potentially sitting in the fridge for >1-2 weeks - while fresh is best, that’s not always practical…what’s the best way to go? 😃🧐
@@shaunsandow2073lol what the fuck
@@shaunsandow2073 A chef once told me to only cook with wine I would drink and never use cooking as a way to use up bad wine. Since I live alone that works because I can open a bottle, cook with it and still have some left for a couple glasses to have while eating. I would be interested to hear Konstantin's take though
@@SirWussiePants Sounds reasonable advice - I don’t use crap wine and $10 is a underestimate (I’m in Oz, and would not use Jacob’s creek / yellow tail equivalent, as the’re paint stripper), but I’d not sit down and have a glass of it with dinner either…then again, I’ve used high end red that was passed it (e.g. HoG that was too old), but not acetone(d) and they make a great heavy stew. So, yes, Konstantin’s views one day would be cool - maybe it’s an excuse for him to get in a Michelin chef and swap expertise 🙂; and nibbles.
I'd never heard of Dornfelder before. It sounds like the red equivalent to White Zinfandel in the US. Bland, sweet, no acidity and no character whatsoever, and drinking it sends a shiver down my spine. But it appeals to novice wine drinkers who aren't ready for big flavors.
10:05 hahaha 😅 I need this as a reaction gif
Never purchased a wine from Amazon and your video didn't tempt me. I'm still thirsty for wine with that tannic grip!
Thank You Konstantin for doing this so I don't have too.
If German wine tastes like this, I don't want to live here anymore. 😂😂
Hello Konstantin. great video as always. Would it be possible to make a video on how to choose a good wine to preserve. Our little girl is now 6 months and we want to select a few bottles of wine to offer on her 18th birthday. as Last years vintage should be available end of this year we would like to have an idea of what to shop for.
For an 18th birthday off dry Riesling (e.g. Kabinett) is your best bet. Why? Remember what wines you liked when you were 18? Did you like tannin heavy reds? No, you liked sweeter wines. Riesling with its high acidity and high sugar can easily age for 18 years.
Furthermore I’d buy Barolo for the 25th and Bordeaux for 30th and 40th anniversary. You can also add in some dessert wines. They can probably outlive all of the above and pair well with birthday cake.
At this price point the reds might be excellent wines to make red wine sauce, like for your rump steak.
Searching the register number you can find the winery that makes each wine. The ones you show the back label the register number is F.W. Langguth
@ konstantinbaum You must now choose a selection of "high end" Amazon wine. Being from Canada I do not have access to either. It would be interesting to see what the offering would bring.
Cool one
I purchased a bottle of the Dido “la Universal”. If I want to let it age for a few more years in my cellar do I need to remove the wax covering on the top or will this not affect the aging process?
These will be good wines to buy to catch a mate out in a bkind tasting lol
You're reaction to the Dornfelder makes this video a contender for my favourite one yet. That being said, i don't think I'll be ordering any of these...
I've never bought Amazon wine, I just bought wine from Amazon once at all I think. I had a £10 voucher and didn't want anything else so I bought a bottle of Campo Viejo Gran Reserva since I thought a brand I knew was a safer bet, so it was fine but nothing exceptional. I don't know enough to know if it was a bad example due to storage conditions, but I've certainly had much, much better cheaper Spanish wine since...
Talking of German chardonnay, do you know the Alte Rebel by Bernhard Huber? I think it's majestic!
I guess the Dornfelder ("Champ d'Épines" in french, favorite wine of Phillip the Sodburner, Douche of Burgundy) will perform great with a 2,50€ cutlet! Maybe add some Hela Gewürzketchup...Yummy.
Do you have any recommendations for Dornfelder wines?
I bought the merlot at wholefoods (owned by Amazon) i believe it was 6.99USD . Not terrible. For the price, could be a great as a base for sangria, or if you feel like having wine but don't want to open a pricier bottle.
Lol! Great video!
If I try ordering wine from Amazon here in this part of Florida, it offers wine shipped 50km from the nearest Whole Foods store at Whole Foods prices, rather than house label wines.
Can’t get Amazon wine here in NY. other than the de-alcoholized ones…which would be a good tasting idea…. Cheers
Sunday morning comedy show !!!!! HOORAY !!!!!fat and flabby green peas !!!!! YUM !!!!! what's for breakfast !!!!! THANKS BRO !!!! p.s. from now on I will look for hair growing on my fingers when go tasting !!!! ( stand up act is in your future)
Interesting tasting! Choosing cheap wine from a cheapjack bookshop probably isn't the wisest and I'd never think of trying them but good entertainment cheers!!
They put the riesling in burgundy bottle, but the chadonnay in bordeaux bottle?
"Yeah...no" 😂❤
I noticed you taste your wines at room temperature, white or red. Does temperature make any difference?
even Vivino does not know that wines :) I cannot find them there. That is the sign )
What is "lifted"?
Lovely that you went to that price point. I was looking forward to you tasting something disgusting. Obviously none of it was. So.. discounters next?
Would a 10% clearer wine glass help you in competitions ? (10% more transparency than any crystals everyone currently uses)
Why would one buy sketchy wine mail order, when you could shop anywhere? Thanks, you provided a service, I wouldn’t ever had risked buying Amazon wines.
All wines sold in the EU will be including calories on the label starting with the bottling of the 2024 vintage - there will also be a listing or a QR code with other additives.
There might be quite good wines for less than 10 Euros, particularly from Languedoc-Roussillon, Rhone, Spain or Chile, not great but drinkable. But 3 Euros for a liter is too harsh, excluding cost of bottling and transport, how much is left there for the wine itself?!
Churrasco means Barbeque or grill in South American Spanish and Brazilian Portugues, thus the Malbec combo. 😉
For the price those were poor ratings. In Spain, Portugal and Italy you can find 80+ points wines for 5 euros locally and 8 euros internationally.
if these wines get scored 70+, which wines are 10+?
Definitely will not be served on Jeff Bezos' yacht.
Curated? :-)
Funny sound... like you're under water!
I wish they made box wine instead of bottles and increased the quality of the wines themselves.
Wow, who would have thought?
I wouldn't lose my time with this selection, though. Life is too short to have bad wine.
AND we only get 1 liver in life… let’s not waste it
As far as I understand, there is no legal requirement in the EU or elsewhere to tell when the wine is made from concentrated grape must. I suppose that at this price point the conventional winemaking routine is too expensive. Therefore these wines are supposedly made from CGM or even wine powder. However, there is a popular argument stating that this type of wine may introduce many people to wine.
You can’t make wines in EU from wine powders or from concentrated must and call it a wine
We'll need to come up with something catchy, using Jeff Bezos' name. Trader Joes (Owned by one of the Albrecht brothers of Aldi fame I think) sells a brand called Charles Shaw, but more affectionately known as "2 Buck Chuck," here in the States.
I think there should be two or three levels of ratings, based on price. It's not fair to the wine or to the consumer to hold all wines on the same scale. Or maybe there should be a price-to-ratings number that gives the consumer an idea of how good the wine is, given its price. I've had great wines (in my opinion) that were around 5 euro (or even less), and crappy wines that were 30. I know that cheaper wines can be manipulated, but it seems to me that if you give a 3 euro wine a 75 rating, that ain't bad. I would like to see some kind of price-to-rating ratio. Is that possible? Is there one already?
I think quality should be scored on a somewhat absolute scale. The consumer should then be able to factor in the price.
haha ive never bought anything i regret from amazon
I’m waiting for the sommelier who’ll say
“ it’s not good for you anyway, so hold out for wine worth the risk”.
So what I'm hearing here is go to Costco 😅
Surely the most convenient way to get shit-faced
First time I ever heard 73 points on a wine lol. I’m confident that Amazon will blacklist you now 😂
Costco, yes! Amazon, never!! Ever.
I'd rather drink beer than buy wine from Amazon.
I am curious what this man will do with these wine…that are clearly not drinkable. Vinegar? Use them to cook? Or use them as a penalty in a wicked drinking game???
All of the above
Defo misread that F word on the Chardonnay bottle!
A vegan wine? Who would have thought there is such a thing😂
Did he say the second wine "goes well with potato salad"? Seriously?
Feta salad i think
It said on the label that the wine goes well with Feta Salad - not my suggestion
Why do you do this to yourself??
Most important thing here is to realise that this lack of pride in produce and priority for profit is worth applying to anything you purchase off Amazon. Awful, awful website.
What a nightmare.
How much do you have to suffer to get back to the “good stuff”?😂 tastings
I bet Bezos doesn't drink any of it.
100%
You are way too generous giving it 68 points. The look on your face when you took a sip tells me you wanted to rate it -68 instead but you didn’t want Bezos’ hitman to come knocking at your door lol
Wiith so many good reasonably priced wines available at for instance Trader Joe's why buy this crap?
Amazon doesn’t list an Amazon wine in the US, must be an EU thing.
From the look on your face, I’m not sorry. I suspect your ratings were kind.
Uhhhhhh….no thanks 😂
As far as I can tell, these aren't available in the states. That being said, a couple of these wines are what we would call "porch pounders." That means we sit out on the porch and just pound down one glass after the other on a summers day. Preferably not red.
No!
I didn't enjoy the video. I think a more helpful approach would be to offer advice on more affordable wines that might be considered acceptable... rather than just taking cheap shots at Amazon (and by association it's shoppers) and telling people - if they can't afford fine wine, don't drink any. Please understand I don't question your opinion or expertise, only your reasoning for this video. Folks that struggle to afford luxuries really don't appreciate being pandered to. None of us need reminding as to what we can't afford. Stick to your palate guessing games.
Sorry but I can't go through the whole video
Sulfates?🤮🤮🤮
