There was a lot of confusion about what silent protagonist meant, given Link has some of the most famous vocalisations in gaming, after Mario. Like, the term does mean people that don't speak rather than people who are actually silent, but you could hear the muttering and asking what counted because they weren't familiar with it.

I think it's the fact that as people who are either involved in making games or reviewing games, 1: More games come to mind that have silent protagonists for them than most people, having more interest in gaming from a historical lense. They weren't at a loss for picks. 2: Because of #1 nerves kick in from thinking of you many options and it's difficult to think of the most obvious choice. 3: Link is debatable because we often don't think of Mario as a silent protagonist but it's rare he has more lines that Link. I think some of it is that they may follow different types of games than the Kinda funny audience. So, some things may seem obvious to us, but not on their radar.

His tweet thread was about how Baldur's Gate 3's success is not one that can be easily replicated, given that its success came from a nexus of factors that any given studio cannot replicate; these factors being Baldur's Gate 3 being a product in a massive IP at the height of that IP's popularity ever, the benefits of Early Access as a production strategy (which has risks that you need to be a big enough company to be able to afford), and tons of talented staff that have put together games like this before. Most studios can get the last one, but Baldur's Gate 3 was a massive success because it had all three, and those investing in the game industry are going to want to see games hit that level of success when they don't have the wind at their sails, and they are going to be stranded in the ocean because of it.
