Good evening. Did you know you can grow popcorn from the organic non-GMO popcorn you buy at the store? I tried it this last spring and have to tell you I had 100 percent germination. There were at least 400 kernels per ear. I dried the cob out for about a week and tried popping the corn. I have never tasted such delicious fresh popcorn. All kernels popped.
I haven’t been to a grocery store in 11.5 months. I no long use them. I raise our own chickens, produce and buy the rest from friends of ours that our Amish
That's awesome. I can shut off cards from the phone to stop impulse purchases too. Yeah, that's me. I'm like , oh, I can pay it back off. What was the point of paying it off then!!😂😂😂 one more truck almost paid off. I need a sticky note that the goal was to paid off all that to pay off that.❤
Wow Mrs. H, yes please share your list and your progress regularly. I can’t wait to follow along and eliminate the grocery store as much as possible…ultimately working up to this one day! Thanks for sharing
No animals, but we grow citrus, blackberries, strawberries and blueberries. Apple trees to be planted next year. We are extending the garden for another 6x4 raised bed and 2 round raised beds of 2x2. I can add more grow bags for all the tomato cuttings I wont be able to toss, more food! We have cut back on grocery store trips. We buy more from farmer's co-op and local Mom and Pop country markets. Bought another freezer this year.
Even if you went to the store once in a blue moon, here and there, you are still way ahead of the game ....of course, serious eyeball to every ingredient in what you're buying. And, learning to do the homemade way on dairy products is key.
I lost my whole pantry over1000 jars Now I have new cabin starting over but buying in bulk My. Weakness for the grocery store is fresh fruit bananas and oranges or lettuce and tomatoes. One year without store was how I was raised hope I can do this within a few months
Today, I can't see a year as feasible for us. However, cutting back is very practicle. I think a mindset shift is in order for us. This is a great opportunity to evaluate what and how much we need. We can't produce our proteins, nor can we grow and store enough produce. But there are definately places for improvements. I accept your challenge to the degree we are able to practally.
We have been using farmers marks in our community for 15 years, and we RARELY have to go grocery shopping$$$$, saving lots of money, too........................... from the Ozarks, cooking and eating at home, too
On the parcment paper, and items of that nature, check resturant supply stores, I have parchement, foil, plastic wrap ect. I bought them years ago and I am not even to half thru them .
We’ve almost always done this, we had a small celebration when we finished our first “restaurant roll” of aluminum foil. We got it when our youngest was in diapers about 25 years ago. We joked that the boys would inherit the new roll we bought (was even able to buy the identical item!)!
I would love to join this challenge. It will take a bit of planning, we usually go about once a month to Costco or something like that. I ❤ the idea of being able to go a whole year without grocery shopping!
Mrs. Heart, I'm glad you said that we could try for 6 months etc. because a years supply the money isn't there for me but I will try the 6 months. I'm in. 💚 What a great idea.
I went a little crazy this year canning anything i could get free or cheap. Ive bought well over 600 jars in addition to the bunch i had already. My freezers are stocked. My "preps" are in good shape... Im fixing to have surgery and will be laid up fir a good minute. I Shouldn't need much beyond milk and occasional salad veggies if i want them! Come Jan 1st ill track my grocery store spending just to See how Low i can go! Then plan what i need to do better next Summer. Good luck!!
We are in after Jan 12th my azure order will be here but after that we will do 1 yr as well without the store. Can't wait. I buy all cream cheese and sour cream bulk from azure and put in freezer and take out as needed. We accept challenge as well Mr. H!
Great thoughts! Part of our self sufficiency is to eat what we have. What is still living in the garden, what is aging on the shelves. I’m making a soup today with canned and dried veggies, etc. So excited to do just what you are doing, except instead of ordering we trade with another, larger farm in our area. It’s tight now because the goats are dry and chickens are on strike for now.
Best wishes on completing your challenge! I try to only go to the store once a month, then commodities once a month. That is much less than when I used to shop once a week.
I go every few months without the grocery store. Unsure if I could pull off a year but I'm going to shoot for three months maybe four and see where I need to prepare/grow/make more. I'll be rooting you two on!
Mrs. H. It's a bit scary, no grocery store for a year, however YOU GOT THIS!!!! What a fantastic goal to set for the new year!! I wish you and Mr. H. the very best and look forward to future updates. Stay safe!! 🙂
Such a great idea!!! I’ll be watching y’all’s progress, taking notes, and working towards ,or away, from store reliance. You can make sour cream and cream cheese. Also when you harvest your fruits this year use the scraps to make vinegar. Don’t forget to swap and barter with others.
Was just talking about this with my granddaughter this morning. A year might be too much, but I will challenge myself to six months and already have my planting schedule in my 2025 calendar to grow a lot more veg. Was planning on learning how to do more dairy products this year anyway, but I don’t have a cow so I will just buy milk from a local farm and work on my own yogurt, cheese, sour cream, ice cream and butter. Challenge (partly) accepted Mrs. H! It’s certainly worth a try!
Every year we do the Three Rivers Homestead pantry challenge of no grocery store/eating from freezers/pantry for January and February. I’m excited to extend it for this challenge!!
Hi! I’m starting small. I bought seeds last year (as you recommended as a 1st step), AND finally growing 4 indoor vegetables. I’m hooked! I never thought I would enjoy gardening, but was motivated after watching your channel. ❤ your videos! God Bless your family!
What indoor veg are you growing? :) I did have success growing indoors with lights mostly Swiss chard, lettuce, green onions during midwest winters...but honestly I only ate off them lightly in salads and cooking. But I do have plant lights and an aquarium I put them in lined in reflective foil. I wish I had sun in my home but we only have a few south facing windows...I dream of a sunroom! :)
Hello SISTER homestead ❤ I say to you that you are so blessed I wish that our heavenly father woll bless me with half the knowledge that you guys have your awesome and may our father continue to bless you ❤
I love my dairy cows. Making cheese has a learning curve but I'm working on it. If you have a favorite brand of sour cream, check the ingredients. If it's a cultured cream and doesn't have thickener you can add a couple of tablespoons to a qt of cream and let it sit out for 24hrs. Just keep doing that when you get low. I pull out the scoops before we use it so it doesn't get contaminated. It freezes well and still works. You can do the same with yogurt.
Im in! No grocery items, no meat, no non food items.I'll only buy produce and dairy as needed and will try to make as much as i can. Hey, you can freeze cream cheese.
I ordered chicks came through mail, my daughter told me to call and let them know at post office we had order chicks and they would be getting them but we would be picking them up ourselves from the post office as SOON as they arrive, so that's what we did, I called to check if the chicks had arrived and when they did arrive at post office, we went ever early to pick them up, as soon as the post office was open we went to back and got them ourselves only one didn't survive, and too for anyone that get chicks in mail make sure you give them warm water in their waterer NEVER COLD. I hope things go better for you next time :)
I have no doubt y'all can do it! We do a pantry challenge every January and February. I'm going to extend it through March this year, so I'm in for three months, maybe four if it goes well.
I think it's wonderful. I can't but I do as much myself as I can. I'm so happy for you. You need a master sheet. I do too!!! I need to do an inventory of my home and make an alphabetized list of everything I use. Love Rebecca (tTt)
This is an excellent time for many of us to challenge ourselves, while it's a choice, on so many levels. We can all increase our self-sufficiency on some level. Thank you for the incentive!
Wow a year with out going to the grocery store that means everything you need has to be gotten i would have already started my house inspection bless your heart thank you for sharing i wonder if this was something we all need to think about that is getting everything from head to toe cat food dog food bless your heart
I am so thankful you told us about Azure. My family tries to order everything from them that we would otherwise get from the local store. SO much better quality & better experience. Not even comparable.
I definitely hope to try this! Hubby and I eat whole-food plant based, meaning no meats, dairy or oils. So we do lots and lots of veggies, beans, whole grains, fruits of all kinds and anything God has given us that grows out of the garden! My thing will be to try and make a list of all my extras I use to make recipes and make sure I'm stocked up. Praying we can all do this together!
Hey Mrs H. This sounds interesting. Our problem is dairy as well. But will have 3 goats in 3 months. Thanks for the thoughts and challenge. Will keep you in the loop. From middle TN. ITS JUST A LITTLE FARM.
I'm not prepared for a year but possible a month or two. This will help me get a feel for what i might need to do the challenge next year. 2 rivers homestead does 2 months without the store challenge every year.
Challenge accepted! We have a garden, greenhouse and chickens. In the spring ill be getting more beef from a friend. We can alot of stuff, but also put aside some store bought canned goods. We also buy 50# bags of flour and such as we make out own baked goods. I need to be more diligent with the garden, but stuff that's kept me from that is done now, except for my health, but i have lots of help. Thank you for all of your videos!!
Good luck with the Azure standard I was going to order 50lbs of hard white wheat berries and there was none on their online store and I couldn't get a answer if it was temporary or they were not going to carry anymore. I did get a email saying it might be a couple of months before they had anymore. I canceled the rest of my order because it was nothing on there I really needed my main reason to order was wheat berries. I was sort of bummed I had just got my gal mylar bags and my 02 absorbers. We usually just use quarts for freeze dryer things. But I had decided to do them in the smaller bags after listening to your video where you forgot to reseal your wheat berries and got weevils in your berries. Just check now they have hard white but no soft white for Jan. pickup.
We are in. We had just agreed to figure out how to cut out Costco. That’s our last “grocery” store option. Azure is amazing! We are filling our basket now. It’s been working and since our Costco is so far it won’t be tempting we had to plan a day for that trip 😂! Look forward to your updates.
I’m doing a no spend year, the only thing I do buy is milk, cheese, and eggs. Everything thing else I shop from my pantry and make from scratch like bread and so on.
What a challenge!! I got my first azure haul this week , and I’m already getting my next order ready ❤I used your code. I did do a month and 1/2 no grocery story last year. I’ll try to go as long as possible ❤
Peace and Blessings. I am doing the month of December without going to the grocery store. So far so good. I only have spent 15. 00. I am going to try again in February.
I’m in! We have a garden, chickens and will raise another pig this year. We are working on increasing our pasture for a cow. I buy milk locally and have wanted to learn to make cheese and I buy beef locally. I think I can this!!
So excited to follow along. I’m doing a pantry challenge in January and February to use up stuff from my pantry. I don’t have a source of dairy, so will still need to go to the grocery store for that. I’m learning to make more things from scratch so we can stop relying on the store.
I LOVE the idea of going 1 year without the store, but my concern would be depleting my stock in concerning times...I guess if you are mostly sustainable it is not as scary. Thoughts?
To add on, I DEFINITELY think doing a 3 month would be better for us, that way I could still feel good about having good stock in case of an emergency! We are not on farmland, nor do we have animals. We do have a decent garden though.
Can you do a video on the suggested grains. I already make my own breads from flour i get at the Amish store. But, I just bought a mill and want to mill my own flour and cornmeal
Hello Mrs. H! I love the challenge idea! I'm going to make a plan for my family as well. What's up with that Uncle Tiger? LOL! This was a Great video!🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️🫂
My LaMancha dairy goats keep me in dairy except when they are preparing for their next lactation. Each one gives 1 gallon or more per day. I have my own chickens for eggs. Meat rabbits for meat. Storage is limited but always trying to increase my options. Azure Standard is good but the past few months keep changing the date/time of delivery.
If anyone could do a year without buying groceries...it would be you two! :) But honestly, it's out or reach for most folks. Only those who grow their own meat, dairy, and produce (including sugars of some sort) are truly self sufficient except for fuels. At the peak of gardening season is the best for us (just country folks not homesteaders anymore) when we don't have to buy produce. If you live country you get used to shopping once a month, but that's still shopping. With this inflation we cut corners wherever we can and eat less. My husband said no more chickens due to the cost of feed...so we even have to buy our eggs. I have hope for 2025 to be a better year for all. You are our homestead hero Mrs H. :) ps: *shopping bulk is still shopping*. lol but it's smart and having a pantry last a year is even smarter.
HOMESTEAD IN THE WOODS WILL TAKE YOU UP ON YOUR CHALLENGE!!! I talked about it with my husband and we will start on January 1st! I have no doubt we can do it but my husband is "concerned" he won't like it. He just wants to make sure we are stocked up on his snacks before we start. LOL I just finished reorganizing and doing an inventory of my pantry, but I need to look at it from this perspective and stock up between Christmas and New Years day. I'm going for 1 year.
Although I don't have a homestead yet, this is something that I would definitely like to do when I eventually have one. Constantly having to run to the store is incovenient and time consuming. It also costs money to get to the store and back if it's not within walking distance.
I'm not ready to do it yet because I need to have dairy available on the homestead. We are starting to prepare for milk goats (one or two) and then I'll be ready. I'm looking forward to your adventure.
Good evening. Did you know you can grow popcorn from the organic non-GMO popcorn you buy at the store? I tried it this last spring and have to tell you I had 100 percent germination. How did you dry the popcorn?
That is so cool!
Wonderful to know :) Can you share the company brand you used? Thanks :)
@@amazinggrace1977you just dry out the cob , then the kernels just fall off
Hi Mrs. H! I actually just purchased a book called A Year without the Grocery Store. The author talks about Azure Standard! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😂❤
What a great idea! I’m going to buy that book!!
I haven’t been to a grocery store in 11.5 months. I no long use them. I raise our own chickens, produce and buy the rest from friends of ours that our Amish
We will be doing every other month of no spending for 2025. Goals need to be met this year.
Tariffs are going to make imported foods extremely expensive 😢
That's awesome. I can shut off cards from the phone to stop impulse purchases too. Yeah, that's me. I'm like , oh, I can pay it back off. What was the point of paying it off then!!😂😂😂 one more truck almost paid off. I need a sticky note that the goal was to paid off all that to pay off that.❤

Yep. We go once a month or so and only buy a few things that we cannot feasibly grow or get from local farmers. Everyone's situation is different.
I lost my whole pantry over1000 jars
Now I have new cabin starting over but buying in bulk

Wow that is a great idea! This will take some planning! I’ll start with one month and work my way up. Thank you thank you for this challenge 😊🙏🏾

Hello there!

Hello Mrs H.we are doing 60 Days without Store . I am nervous I have to say.
I have no doubt y'all can do it! We do a pantry challenge every January and February. I'm going to extend it through March this year, so I'm in for three months, maybe four if it goes well.
I'm all in. Full year!
im always finding myself buying crap I really don't need. . it's a struggle
Mrs. HOMESTEAD, I'm cheering for y'all I believe y'all can do it 🙏🏽🙏🏽👍🏽👍🏽💗💗
I think it's wonderful. I can't but I do as much myself as I can. I'm so happy for you. You need a master sheet. I do too!!! I need to do an inventory of my home and make an alphabetized list of everything I use. Love Rebecca (tTt)
I think that is a great idea!
Hint: if you have items in different location when doing an inventory identify where each item is located.
Grow horseradish, ginger, and turmeric along with growing the garlics and onions. Freeze drier will be working hard!
This is an excellent time for many of us to challenge ourselves, while it's a choice, on so many levels. We can all increase our self-sufficiency on some level. Thank you for the incentive!
How I wish I could get my husband to be onboard with this kind of thinking.

It’s a good question to consider. Thank you for thinking about it!
👍🏽 God bless you and your challenge! I’ll try with less months starting in Jan. ❤
I will be looking forward to seeing your videos this coming year. God bless, and Merry Christmas to you and yours! 🎄
Let's do.
This. Accept the challenge. No grocery for a year.
❤ SISTER tanks for sharing your life and you knowledge with us❤❤❤❤ gardening, canning, cooking, processing, everything Awesome your blessed ❤
Yeast can be stored in the freezer too. SAF instant yeast comes in a nice vacuum sealed brick.
This is awesome! I may try a month at the time until I am stocked and use to it.
Looking forward to seeing you do this challenge.
This is very intresting, goint to be keeping up with yall and how things are going. I'm sure we can all learn something from your efforts.
The security of running to the store will not longer be used. You can do it, our ancestors did it for years. I'm learning from you guys ❤
Hi! Can we see what you buy from Azure? And cost please
Following your journey ✨️ 🙏🏽
Although I don't have a homestead yet, this is something that I would definitely like to do when I eventually have one. Constantly having to run to the store is incovenient and time consuming. It also costs money to get to the store and back if it's not within walking distance.
Good for you! We live on 3/4 acre and rarely go to a store. You can do it easily!
I'm not ready to do it yet because I need to have dairy available on the homestead. We are starting to prepare for milk goats (one or two) and then I'll be ready. I'm looking forward to your adventure.
Love this! I am getting meat rabbits this spring and planting my first garden! Good luck on your challenge!
Hello everyone 😊❤
I divided my staples by month and stock a year’s worth of certain items each month.
Fantastic plan!!!💚💚💚
