Stu Zender’s groove is always off the charts, but the groove on Funktion is spectacular. A bass monster!
I feel '97 is when they really came together and hit their peak. Live especially.
I was living in Brazil in 1997 when Jamiroquai was there, touring their best album. Classic!
unfuckingbelievable, the sound, the vibe, the entire performance...incredible. Big shout out to the brass and woodwinds section, this really made the band go to another harmonic level. Also, may Toby Smith be resting in peace, will never forget you!

old comment of yours but I agree that the horn section is amazing here and it was daring to start the show with Hooked Up. Super challenging for the horn.. JK sounds almost as if he has a little cold and has difficulty to sustain vocal notes longer that evening. And people don't give enough credit to Simon Katz in this phase between 1995 and 2000. He is killing it in all these shows especially Ebisu 1995

I always thought I was a fan of funk music. I recently realized that funk is too monotonous, but Jamiroquai did the impossible. they reinvented funk and made go interesting and varied.
... and still, in 2021, this is the music I want soooo much of. What a performance!!! 😎🤘🏼

How I only in 2019 went through the Jamiroquai looking glass & down the JayKay rabbit hole, I will never know. In the 1990s I was consumed with Colombian & Puerto Rican salsa so I missed out. but I'm the son of a jazz man & I've always been into post 70s acid jazz. By now I have streamed every live performance online. Including Tokyo I think '95. Kay is one hell of a singer & star performer & the bands (damn horns are great) rigorously tight. Putting on real shows instead of ever calling it in. Severe late in life fan here. Better late than ......

Como eu queria ter conhecido o Jamirão nos anos 90, mas eu estava atolado no rock. Vivenciando a loucura da cena rock dos anos 90. kkk Mas foi foda conhecer o Jamiroquai nos anos 2000. Abriu várias portas sonoras pra mim. Expandiu a mente e mergulhei em vários campos da música boa. Jamir]ão é foda! Cheeba Cheeba Inter planetary good vibe zone!

Eu conheci cara, mais ou menos pelos idos de 96. Nessa época eu fazia um cursinho de inglês e já estava há anos tentando decifrar a musica "daquele solo de sax". Eu conhecia a música desde 93, mas não sabia de quem era porque as rádios não falavam o nome da banda. Fui descobrir por meio da MTV que era When You Gonna Learn, e a banda era Jamiroquai. Desde então, comecei a acompanhar.
O Jamiroquai dessa época era foda demais. Uma das melhores bandas que já houve.

Stuart Zender was a genius ... There are really 2 different listenings of Jamiroquai ; 1 with him and 1 without . I can't imagine what this band would have became if he would have stayed the bass player !

Como eu queria estar no Via Funchal nesse dia, mas não tinha a menor possibilidade. Tinha 15 anos e a vida era um miserê danado. Eu tenho um misto de nostalgia e amargura dessa época: foi um tempo maravilhoso, mas não havia dinheiro nem emprego para ninguém nem nada. Jovens, acreditem, por mais que esteja difícil hoje, nessa época era mais.
Restava acompanhar o Free Jazz pela MTV. Se não me engano, o mesmo ano em que houve um show épico do Sonic Youth em SP.

Cómo me gusta verle en sus inicios, con sus recursos limitados pero con toda la fuerza del mundo... dándolo todo, haciendo música con instrumentos, éste es él en estado puro. Ahora...es otra historia... sigue siendo un genio pero... no es lo mísmo... :-( qué gozada verlos a todos juntos disfutando.... Volveremos a vivir esto???? :-( No creo, así... no creo...
Esta fue su mejor formación sin duda. Pero me sentiría mal si Rob y Paul ya no estuvieran en la banda, ya que ellos han hecho su aporte a la banda también.

Esta fué su mejor época; en la última gira x Sudamérica lo vi en una entrevista y cuando le preguntaron si estaba contento de venir dijo muy honestamente: " no, prefería estar en mi casa con mi familia; pero debo complir con mi contrato y trabajar"...en ese momento me chocó, pero comprendí que todos llegamos a cierta edad dónde lo que disfrutábamos se convierte en rutina y no nos dá la misma satisfacción de antes...y eso se refleja en el escenario.

I love Automaton tour, for that, and Jay Kay going through a difficult time after his back surgery. And yet he seems happy to be there.
I have the impression that just before the finale of his concert in Stuttgart in 2017, he was overcome with real emotion.
