Thanks a bunch! I am a missionary living in Albania and your video helped me fix my rear windows in my 1996 Disco. My kids will are totally grateful. God Bless!
Your video was a life saver- well, not really but quite a time saver for sure. I had started working my way through diagnosing this problem starting with the window motor on one side and paused to do a search for more info on the web when I came across your video. I followed your instructions and sure enough, I had the same problem. Once the circuit board was removed (harder to get it out of the housing in my Range Rover than it appeared to be for your Disco), a quick bit of soldering and the problem was sorted. Thank you for taking the time to document this fix and share it with the rest of the Land Rover community.
Excellent video! I repaired mine today: had loose solder. I will say though, removing the unit was extremely difficult. Especially pulling out the connectors. If I had not watched your video I would've given up by now.
Seriously?! I just pulled my window ECU for this exact reason and the exact same solder is bad! Thank you so much for taking the time to post this video, it is greatly appreciated. Cheers mate!
Hi Alexander, Thank You soooo much for sharing your talent with us. You are absolutely amazing. I have a 96 disco I and have not been able to roll down my back windows for a few years now. Shops wanted me to spend $500+ to repair but I always wanted to trouble shoot it myself. Now it works and it took less than 30 min. to fix and my grand total was $2.99 for solder. You are a Godsend and I can't Thank You enough!
Thank you very much for uploading this. My wife is happy again and I did not spend a dime. Was just what you had but I had to remove the two 7mm nuts from the plastic box in order to change the "extraction" angle of the circuit board on the 96 Discovery. Thanks again.
Thanks Alexander. Followed your video and my Landrover Discovery now has functioning back windows. You’re a gem. During the process of extracting the board I was contemplating the need for a website. I would call it: What bloody idiot designed this? Placing anything that may need repair in such a bloody difficult place to get to is stupid. My son recently had to pay $1500 to take out the engine of his Subaru to get at the sparkplug controller. As everyone doesn’t replace their car every 4 years. Some actually repair them. The idea that 2200kgs of car having a life expectancy of 5-6 years is bloody stupid. Thanks again
Just did this repair on a 1997 Discovery I. Rear windows work great now, THANKS! Did not need to remove the glove box but did disengage the springs on the sides so it hung down out of the way. Had a little trouble getting the card out, not sure if covered in video but be sure to move the connectors toward the passenger side (right side) as you slide the card out. Broken solder on one of the relay pins, easy resolder. I noticed as I put the card back that it seemed to interfere with the case as I pushed it in and that the card had a slight bend when fully in place, the bend being where the bad solder joint was and likely a contributing cause, so I left the card partially out of the case. No issues there as plenty of clearance around it and will not fall out on its own due to cables, might get a little dusty if you get into really dusty environments for a while, then go into a humid one for a while (can wet the dust and cause intermittent shorts, not a problem in my area) but I felt better about not mechanically stressing the card. FYI, also finished replacing the little springs in the door lock actuator that cause intermittent unlocking (plenty of posts on this fix if you have this problem, order springs from a UK guy on ebay). Working doors AND windows, woohoo!
I had the same trouble putting it back in. When I felt the edge of the card I noticed that it was very rough so I sanded it down gently with a foam sanding block. Once that was done it slid in smoothly.
Your commit was vary much appreciated. I am vary happy you could benefit from this, I plan on posting a few more issues as well vary soon. Take care !!
Very helpful!! Thanks for the thoughtful, well produced tutorial. I was wondering if I could remove the guts alone, after I salvaged two units from my parts trucks. My prob is the driver's window, tho. Thanks!!
Great video One of my rovers had all my windows not come down at all. so ill try this Cause i kept going crazy trying to find the problem I hope this is it . some times they work some times they do not . And great job one handed as well .
I have a 1996 disco. my back right window is stuck halfway down. how can i get it back up real quik, untill i can have it fixed? and all other windows work. would could be my problem?
Tried unplugging the circuit board wires and split the circuit in two... Can I purchase another circuit board to replace it? Will it need to be reprogrammed? What functions does the circuit board operate?
Yes you can. Just remember to grab one of the same sub model. Just take a look at yours and compare it to an alike one. Most are the same, Even in other years.
Hi I have a 2011 Land Rover that does not start or crank when I push the start bottom. I took it to the dealer and those guys just want to start changing parts without finding the problem. First they want to change the wiring harness and than take it from there. Can you guide me so I can find the problem. Thanks.
thank you so much just pulled the circuit board on my 1999 and it was the same solder point. I resoldered it and that back windows work like new. now to get rid of my misfire hmmm.
Alexander thank you so much for to share your nolish. I have to do that in my 03 Freelander on the left passenger side, but right now I need to deal with a bigger issue. Today after a 15 minutes run on the Highway stop for 7 minutes crank up and the engine shut down a block a way. I was able to restart but the automatic transmission won't engage, have to town it back to home. Yes I was having overheating issues recently. any idea on how to unlock the transmission?
great job - repair and video. Can you do the same for a multi-funtion unit that is behind the fuse box? I have lost all my interior lights and it sounds like that is the best place to start. BTW I am planning a trip out to Utah with the rover to have some fun.. Thanks!
I'm having a voltage issue.. Changed battery.. Same thing.. I'm going to further inspect grounds but as you showed.. I believe this thing deserves an inspection.. Especially when I have quirky thing like 1 door lock and hatch only goes down.. Who knows..
I was looking back at mine, are you taking about the metal casing or the plastic harness ? You can bend the casing to pull the whole card out then look at the harness. It stuck on there pretty tight the first time. Electronic cleaner is safe to use on that connector to try and free it up.
my passenger back window works, but my drivers back window motor does not kick on, do you think this is the same issue for me? i watched this video and i think i may try what it showed.
I have a short video that I will upload in a few days. It talks about that issue. There is a bypass for this fix if it is the same issue shown in the video I will upload. It should be vary simple. I'll keep you posted
I've done this repair three times and have never been able to get the board back into the slot on the left side of the plastic case. Tried removing the nuts to change the angle but couldn't get socket on them and a third nut is also in the back which I couldn't move and the case has to move to the right a good bit to clear the screws. I thought if it can wiggle out, it can wiggle in but not successful. I finally just stuffed it in and left the cover off since it wouldn't close securely. Windows all work but the angle of insertion of that board is a biatch.
Alexander: My 2005 LR3 rear windows quit working suddenly. Fuses are fine. Could the ECU be the problem? If so, where is it located? Thanks for your help!
Hey Robert, did you fix your window ? I am sorry for the late reply. I am running a little behind. I believe i know what the problem is. I made a video how to fix it but have not posted it. Let me know if you need to watch it. I still have to Finnish editing it a little bit.
Hello, If you guys are having issues with the motors turning slow or seized up. I'm about to make a video showing how easy it is to repair and rebuild them. The cost for doing this is extremely low. This is for all window and Duel sunroof motors.
Yes I have a solution. I just replace the whole track from ebay. but ... If you want to replace the wheels instead, I made a experiment video if you want to see it.
Dude!!! You really ment one handed. I give you props. Great job.

I had the same trouble putting it back in. When I felt the edge of the card I noticed that it was very rough so I sanded it down gently with a foam sanding block. Once that was done it slid in smoothly.
Thanks Alexander. Will be taking mine apart this afternoon. hoping to fix it as easily as you did!
Thank you Alexander this was most helpful and saved me a load of time, stress and money.
