@@PrepperPotpourri I have a dehydrator and I have all the non-stick dehydrator sheets that I need I have the vacuum sealer. I'm sorry but I don't think I need to purchase any more. Fantastic video. Shows how to make it, how to use it and how to store it. Very nicely done, lots of useful information in under 10 minutes. I wish all videos were like this.
I love making different powders. I live in northern Louisiana and they farm sweet potatoes. They only pick up the ones that are the right size which means they leave millions of pounds laying on the ground. The first year I lived there I picked about 450 lb.'s and dehydrated them and then made a powder out of them. It made a 6 gal. bucket full. I sure hope I make it to 100 years old like my grandmother did or all my kids are going to inherit is sweet potato powder.
I have been just doing the skins, and air dry them. Works great and blend them the same way/ This is the first video I have seen what to do with them. I was just planning on adding them to stews though. Thanks for the recipes.

I have gathered myself about a pound of tomato powder. I know the obvious ways to use it which is mainly in something that has tomato sauce or I can mix it up with water and make tomato paste. I haven't done much research yet because I haven't felt well so I thought I'll get it all in one video! I hope :-)

+Armed Rogue I love your enthusiasm. It is contagious. :-) I think the key here is learning how to incorporate what you preserve into your daily life. The first couple of years that I started, I had all of this "STUFF", and I was truly clueless about what to do with it and how to make it taste YUM. I was fortunate to run into some well seasoned ladies that taught me. Now it makes things so easy. I have friends that ask if I ever use what I preserve or do I just keep it on the shelf. We eat it every day in some way. P.P. knows :-) I made a killer eggplant parmigiana the other night all from my stores. My friends couldn't believe it. I think the only thing that I used out of the fridge was cheese, although I do have some canned for back up. Get creative and experiment.
+Armed Rogue I just use a canister that came with my vacuum sealer to seal the jars. I also have the adapter that I can place on top of the jar to seal. I love my vacuum sealer :)
Ladyshystar - What do you use yam powder for besides maybe mash and gnocchi? Do you do pumpkins like Butternut Squash too (where I am, Norway, they are called «Bottle Pumpkin») and Zucchini is «squash», confusing, these plants! Thanks! 😊

Great stuff! Beside learning what to do with all the tomatoes we have left I also learned how to vacuum seal a canning jar (I had no idea about that). Were eating tomatoes until their coming out of our ears by now, so this will be a great option to preserve the rest of the harvest :-D
+Nordic Resilience If you have a Foodsaver vacuum sealer, you can also buy a large mouth -- or small mouth -- lid sealer attachment. I have both. With small jars, though, I like sealing it by placing it in a canister.
Excellent video thank you for sharing! I am wondering if over time will the powder clump up and if so, what do you do to prevent this from happening? I found your channel through the collaboration of the Jar It Up January. The info you post is fabulous, thank you!
Thank you for your kind comments. It can clump but it will easily break apart with your fingers or you can place it back in the dehydrator to "unclump."

I do have a couple questions, though. 1) Do you cook the ketchup, sauces, etc. 2) could I can them, 3) without canning how long will the ketchup, etc. keep in the fridge? Thank you so much.
Yes, I do cook it when making the ketchup. Bring all ingredients to a boil and simmer until the right consistency. Be sure to stir frequently so the bottom doesn't burn. Because of the vinegar it should keep for a long time in the refrigerator. Since water bath canning is an exact science, I'm not sure about canning. I have made and canned ketchup from fresh tomatoes and it tasted great.

Where is your book?!? I want to buy it - today. ;) I absolutely loved the recipes provided. I was thinking to buy a grain mill - do you think that would work better to grind to powder? Just thinking of the minuscule amount that can fit into a coffee grinder, will take a long time for large quantities. I tried making potato powder for instant mashed potatoes. It worked well, they tasted good and good texture - overall, except for the little lumps that the coffee grinder didn't grind. LOL
Two questions. First, did I see you tighten the screw band on the jar before putting it in the plastic sealer? That was so cool. Boy, am I doing mine the hard way. Second, Have you actually made the recipes above and how do they compare? I don't know how I will like making ketchup or tomato paste, or even tomato sauce out of dehydrated tomatoes. I think the best way to explain what I'm asking is I love to can. I don't; however like canned meats. Chicken is dry, sausage is rubbery, etc. So, taste-wise, how close to a fresh tomato is it? I don't need to get hooked on dehydrating if I don't like dried foods...lol. BTW, I love your videos. I subscribed.
Yes I do tighten the ring. Your second question is difficult to answer because it depends on how rich the taste is of the tomatoes you use. I mostly use the powder in soup, stews and sauces. I also dehydrate tomato slices. They are very close to fresh when you rehydrate.
A lot depends on your storage conditions. If you are able to vacuum seal your container it will last longer. I have used powder 3 years old. That being said, I don't know how much nutritional value gets lost over time. It is probably best to use within 12 months.

Well done video! Lots of information. I like videos like this where you can learn how to prepare foods naturally. Whether it's growing, canning or cook-ing. We live in a world now where everything is instant. You either nuke it or add water. We've been convinced by advertisers that we just don't have the time to prepare wholesome meals. Well we "ADULTS" are going to have to take back our ability to think for ourselves and then engage in a serious "do over " of our priorities (ok soapbox speech) is over. Thank you.
I agree completely with your comments. We all can suffer from the instant gratification mentality at times. However, I find real satisfaction in making meals from scratch and canning.
When I make the powder, quite a few of the seeds are still whole. I don't mind that except in my tomato soup. Am I not grinding it up enough? or??? Thanks for the video and recipes!
I'm not sure. I guess I would just sift the seeds from the powder and throw the seeds away. It is the meat of the tomato that creates great tasting powder.
Hi! two questions : from 1 Kg. fresh tomato how much powder is obtained Second As this is concentrate what should be the using ratio as to fresh tomato

+MrOldclunker Glad you liked it
Thank you for sharing and God Bless 💕
Loved your video, and Thank You so much.
It is amazing how many things you can make with tomato powder.
great ideas!
Wish I could give two thumbs up. Fantastic video.
Thank you so much. I am glad you found this video useful.
Great video!

I use one of the containers from the FoodSaver Canister set. They have a built in port to use with the Foodsaver's vacuum tube accessory. You can buy them on Amazon www.amazon.com/FoodSaver-Piece-Round-BPA-free-Canister/dp/B00005Q4OD/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1484513283&sr=8-2&keywords=foodsaver+container
Now I know how to make it! Yay!
