veggiet2009 I don't think it's bad either, it's a very good attempt at replicating the regeneration.. but Bradley is lined up wrong, and it lacks the effect and impact of the original (it would have lacked that anyway).. I guess once we've all seen the original so many times, it's irreplaceable..
veggiet2009 It's not just that, the angle and effect is wrong as well. The effect should be less of a bright flash, and more of an overexposure with a slow fade. Still, props for at least trying with these. Honestly, while I loved the film, that's the issue I had with the recreated scenes. We know them all so well that major differences are noticeable, such as the delivery of the goodbye to Susan.
I for one liked Sheersmith's performance in this. He might not look anything like Troughton but I thought his mannerisms were pretty close for the little we got to see of him.
I agree, I think they should have got David Troughton (Pat's son) to play the role. Mark Gatiss himself played the third Doctor in scenes that were ultimately cut, and he looks NOTHING like Jon Pertwee. Sean Pertwee, on the other hand, looks amazingly like his father and would've been perfect for the role!
Just to clarify, I am NOT hating on the DocuDrama, it was incredible and I personally loved it. Just stating that they could've done a better casting job with Doctors 2 and 3 :)
No they didn't, if you watch very carefully they switch places with Shearsmith and Bradley for that split second for the regeneration process. It's almost as bad (well I guess it isn't as bad as Sly McCoy wearing a terrible wig that falls off literally in the regeneration scene!)
Reece Shearsmith Is perfect for the part of Patrick Troughton , small of frame but glib and also a fantastic actor. Look up league of Gentlemen. It would have been fantastic if An Adventure in Time and Space had continued with Reece as the 2nd Doctor ALSO, where can I find a picture of Mark Gatiss as The Third Doctor? :)
@@TheRebelTimelord333 I think they should have hired Sean Pertwee imo. He looked like his dad at least when he dressed up as the third doctor for halloween!
***** I feel he's still more recognizable, which is why they could still get him into the 50th. He may have gotten a bit fatter and grey, but you can still tell he's they one and only 4th Doctor. Colin on the other hand has changed so much that I could probably look at a series of British actors and not recognize him as the 6th Doctor.
***** Being someone that has been around older folks all his life that's kind of an unfair statement. Age takes its toll on everyone differently and sometimes more severe than others. To simply say he let himself go is a bit harsh.
It was Mark Gatiss who wanted Reece to do it, I love Reece and Patrick so although he’s not perfect as Patrick I still love the fact that he played him
Thought the actor who looked a bit like the second doctor was fascinating it was clearly as if they'd made an effort to find a looker-like of Patrick. Of course, it could have appeared to be Patrick with CGI or AI after filming the regeneration process with Patrick instead. Think there was a coloured scene of this moment because it was to be with the second doctor of doctor who is in colour originally but something changed. Thought that the whole story was fantastic it would of been interesting to get more stories about William before becoming Doctor Who but maybe another series or documentary is going further into his background as a separate story away from his involvement in Doctor Who I am sure there more this actor story and roles that have been not mentioned. And wondered if Doctor Who was his venture into fantasy stories or stories of science fiction on stage or screen. Maybe known for comedy and dramatic roles but adventure roles?
@@Mowingthefrontlawn Yep it wasn't in any version of "Adventures in Time And Space", they just spliced the regeneration scene from the end of that into Twice Upon A Time where the first doctor regenerates into the second with David Bradley taking William Hartnell's place (which is great because he looks exactly like Hartnell as Hartnell did during his time in doctor who!) This was just released as extras as there is an extended version where Second doctor (Shearsmith) regenerates into the third doctor (Gatiss)
So how about a series of appearances of the First Doctor as played by David Bradley? He got it down pretty well in the few scenes where he "was" the First Doctor in the special, why not have him team up with Peter Capaldi for an ep or two?
But why was it even necessary? The scene exists in its original form. So if they decided to do it anyway, they should have done it properly, or not do it at all.
Calling An Adventure in Space and Time a Biopic or Docudrama, is a bit like calling The Sound of Music a Biopic about The Von Trapp Family singers. Sure they're both based on real events, but to a certain degree some artistic licence is used.
That's one thing that really did irk me as a doctor who fan, that they didn't even bother having the guy who played Patrick Troughton to put on the same clothes as David Bradley for this regeneration, you can tell it's very sloppy.
vaiyt Its a REMAKE, which was made last year. I was talking about it, and how it looks worse than the original. You really think I am that dumb to think Windows was around in 1969?
Reece Shearsmith. Gattiss played the third doctor in an extended version of this clip where the second regenerates into the third which I assume is what happened in War Games and before Spearhead From Space.
Reece Shearsmith. He's a friend and long time writing colleague of Mark Gattiss, one of the lead writers. He'd probably make a good Doctor in his own right, but he doesn't resemble Troughton in the ruddy slightest.
Not only that, but they got the whole thing wrong, Hartnell actually insisted that Troughton take over the role of Doctor Who/The Doctor, but in AITAS they made him wear the second doctor outfit instead of the first doctors.
As much as I like Reece Shearsmith, he really wasn't the person to play Patrick Troughton
I agree, a bit too young for Patrick
Russell Tietjen yeah, which is a shame cos he seemed to have the mannerisms down quite well
flynntheman90 I do see your point, but in his defence they did cast a 70 year old to play Hartnell. :P
Right, well he looked a bit young compared to Troughton at the time, whereas Bradley looked like Hartnell (especially in that costume) lol
Chris Diamantopoulos should have played Patrick Troughton.
If only the camera shots were lined up EXACTLY as they are in The Tenth Planet, then this would have been something special..
reformatted for widescreen, I don't think this is bad... it's just not the same
veggiet2009 I don't think it's bad either, it's a very good attempt at replicating the regeneration.. but Bradley is lined up wrong, and it lacks the effect and impact of the original (it would have lacked that anyway).. I guess once we've all seen the original so many times, it's irreplaceable..

David Bradley was exceptional, but that was not a Patrick Troughton look-alike at all.
I agree

I would love to see the missing episodes re created with David Bradley

@@merci-wheelium what?
Not slow enough. Not gradual enough, either.
Otherwise, should've been one of the final scenes in AiTaS.
I sort of like the original better, because they didn't completely whiten the whole screen.
I had no idea that you reconstructed scenes as well! These are amazing!
This is a really good reconstruction, this should have more views.
I really didn't like Reece Shearsmith as the 2nd doctor. He does not look anything like Patrick and was far too young

Merganman4 3? Where was 3? I missed that :/
If they had him gain a few pounds and put some makeup on him, i'd think he would have looked fairly close.
Payuk The 3rd Doctor was originally supposed to be in the DocuDrama, but his scenes were cut from it in the end.
Reece Shearsmith is only 2 years younger than Patrick Troughton when he first became the Doctor

True
They did a very nice job
call me crazy but did they mix a sneaky still of the real hartnell and troughton in there?

Dear BBC i was wondering if you could recreate the power of the dalek's episodes with Reece Shearsmith and put them on to dvd sincerely Evan Seymour.
I'm sorry but no. This doesn't even attempt to be similar to the original version.
If they got them and whoever can portray Jon Pertwee's 3rd Doctor, we could've gotten the 11 Doctors.
I think it'd be a little difficult to get Colin Baker back though.
BeyondDeathday how come?

It was Mark Gatiss who wanted Reece to do it, I love Reece and Patrick so although he’s not perfect as Patrick I still love the fact that he played him
This drama really was wonderful but all these reconstructions of important moments are very poor.
The fact remains that they tried their best.
But you I think the effort was done pretty good. It tried to show what it was like especially for a whovian who wasn't around at the time
We need a part 2 of this movie
Why was this cut on the BBC America broadcast??
it was cut fullstop, we didn't have it in the UK broadcast either
it was a special feature on the DVD
Roses are red
Violets are blue
If the acting of David Bradley is on point then the acting of Reece Shearsmith and the camera angle should be too
Did anyone notice the 2nd Doctor's left eye twitching
And that leads to the missing episode of Doctor Who, The Power of the Daleks
Thought the actor who looked a bit like the second doctor was fascinating it was clearly as if they'd made an effort to find a looker-like of Patrick. Why people criticize reconstructions like this, I'll never know. It can't ALWAYS be perfect. You just have to accept it as it is.
But why was it even necessary? The scene exists in its original form. So if they decided to do it anyway, they should have done it properly, or not do it at all.
Why do people have to be so nit picky about the docudrama?! Just appreciate it and accept it for what it is!
My big problem with this regeneration is that the second doctor wears different clothes like his clothes regenerated too
Who did he morph into, James Nesbitt or something?
Surely they could of found someone that looked a bit more like troughton.apparently there is an actor on you tube that does look like him.

lol
I don't see why they bothered with making this when the sequence of this regeneration actually exists in its original.
Yeah, but the Farewell is also existant in orignal format.
The first TARDIS scene too.
They're trying to see how close they could get to the original much like with the farewell and first scene
nice
