I've been watching Doctor who since the Pertwee era and this docudrama was a heart wrencher. Also, even though I am quite used to the daleks, the way they showed their creation, I felt like I was watching them for the first time. Then entire production was a work of magic.
It was beautiful and David Bradley deserves a shoebox full of awards. As does Mr Gatiss. It was just right for fans with enough to keep them happy. But I think it can be enjoyed by people who have never watched the show. My parents hopefully, because I'm going to force them to watch it when the DVD arrives.
Just watched this, literally teared up at some moments. Honestly, the most heartwarming, heartbreaking documentary movie I've ever seen. I've gotta share this to my Whovian friends :)
Such an amazing piece this docudrama was, Bradley's portrayal of Bill Hartnell was amazing. The bit where you saw Matt smith at the controls made me smile. Hartnell never wanted to leave.
Just watched it, and got so teary eyed at a lot of David Bradley's parts as 'Bill'. When it came that famous farewell speech to Susan I was close to bawling! I'm normally pretty reserved with anything emotional on TV or film, but this was on the making of Doctor Who....self explanatory.
Mark Gatiss, I would love to see a sequel made for An Adventure in Space and Time for 2016 to celebrate 50 years of Patrick Troughton and the struggles he faced as the first Doctor after regeneration. You could go on into 3rd, 4th, 5th Doctors etc but it would definitely be a story to tell for the 2nd Doctor!
It would be cool to have the 'How it came back' story with people acting out the roles of Russell T, Mark Gatiss and others trying to bring it back, and the Chris conflict and casting of David. It wouldn't need to be detailed as I know Chris would object but just something on the theme
I absolutely can't wait to watch this later! The cast look so much like the real people! It's going to be really interesting to find out more about the origins of the best programme on Earth!
I watched this last night this was a great play and filled with all the old companions in bit parts Mark Gatiss never fails to disappoint as a writer whether it's straight ahead drama like this or documentaries on his beloved Horror movies or comedy or Doctor who I have some of his Lucifer Box stories and they are great he's a very talented man who knows his stuff and grew up with the love of the same things that I did
please make films for each doctor's era, all of them had ups and downs and just general stories of interest. It be great for them to be dramatised :) not only for us fans who know all the stories but for people who never knew about them :)
I'm so excited to watch this. It feels so strange seeing full HD quality colour scene recreations from some of the 1963 serials. And Ian and Barbara were two of my favourite companions.
Ironicly this looks better than the 50th itself I really hope they use the cast annd the sets from an adventure in space and time for the day of the doctor beacuse it would be stupid not to
Just got done watching An Adventure in Space and Time Outstanding work for all on this Yes some great teary eye moments. Love the ending And to see that over all how the show started that Hartnell never really wanted to leave. And the ending with Matt.. Yep very teary moment.
Hello again. Having already seen the Doctor Who: Origins documentary from "The Edge of Destruction" DVD, when I first heard they were going to make a docudrama about the creation of Doctor Who as part of the 50th anniversary, I let out a huge gasp of excitement and joy. Also, I had already seen The Road to Coronation Street, which of course is a docudrama about the creation of Corrie. Because that was brilliantly done, I was sure that An Adventure in Space and Time would also be brilliant... and it was. Come to think of it, Star Trek will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016. They should do a docudrama about how they created Star Trek - The Original Series.
Overall good, however One massive aspect was brushed over for about 7 seconds? It was the making of the theme tune by Delia Derbyshire. Given its the theme tume, it is fundamentle to the TV show, it deserved at-least 5 minuits on the realization of the music by Delis Darbyshire, and her ecsentrice pesonality?...
"I wish I knew what bloody dimension I was in" - Waris Hussein when filming the pilot episode of Doctor Who goes wrong. That scene really made me laugh. I wish I knew what bloody dimension my mum was in. I like to think that this movie will have some whovians take an interest in the earlier episodes of Doctor Who.
O....M....G...I'm such a nerd. I'm so excited to see the new Who. The Doctor is a family thing for me n mine. We all have a different fav Doctor, but we love and respect them all. Can't wait to see the new series. Since I'm the one writing this comment I can throw my 2 cents in. My daughter loves Matt Smith. My fiancee loves Tennant. But dammit, Tom Baker is the shite IMO. Long live Tom Baker!
I would SO love to see this "White-Console-Room-With-Indented-Roundels-On-The-Walls-And-First-Doctor-Console" appear in the present TV series! It's just SO "Doctor Who" :-D
***** Quite! And so nice to see John Hurt's Doctor in his TARDIS console room, along these classic lines! With "An Adventure In Space And Time" and "The Day of the Doctor", not to mention the myriad of other BBC radio and TV programmes, the 50th Anniversary has been well celebrated :-D
Bradley's performance definitely deserves the Bafta award next time around.

Well there's no way he's not getting at least a BAFTA for it.
Just watched this, literally teared up at some moments. Honestly, the most heartwarming, heartbreaking documentary movie I've ever seen. I've gotta share this to my Whovian friends :)
They should have David Bradley come back and play the first doctor for an episode. He should meet 12th, and kinda be like, "How did I become...this?"
clapthony claptano are you a time lord?
😨😨😨😨😨
maybe he was from future! :D
What the hell
Are you from the bloody future

Dear Mr Gatiss, the film was really well done, cheers
Just watched it... Mr Gatiss, you did good here...this was brilliant.

yes more fun
thank you, Mr. Gatiss, for all you've given us over the years.....
Thank you Mr Gatiss. The scene where Hartnell is leading a bunch of kids around the park is brilliant.

That ending! So beautiful. :')
Just watched it and it was really a wonderful film. The acting was incredible and it had so much heart. Can recommend ever whovian to watch it.
Mark Gatiss is now my favorite writer.
Just watched it. Very beautiful. When Hartnell saw Matt Smith in the TARDIS, it was such a great moment.

Very thankful for this special. This was the true 50th anniversary in my book.
Ironicly this looks better than the 50th itself

Some of the best television of this year or any year. The Day of the Doctor has a lot to do to be as deep and moving as what we just all saw.
I love the fact that Ian Hallard was in it (and has been in Sherlock), Mark just cannot help himself the cutie
A masterpiece, Mr Gatiss, simply a masterpiece
A film about the filming of a adventure in space and time... mind = blown. lol
that's whoception, right there :)
dam documentary made me cry
Wonderful performances! Great all round! David Bradley is amaziing.

Such a great movie. Watching Bradley here, you'd never guess he was Argus Filch.
really looking forward to this!
Going to get soo blazed and watch doctor who this weekend
What a superb piece of TV this was!
An Adventure in Space and Time was the 50th Anniversary tribute to Classic Who.
The Day of the Doctor was the 50th Anniversary tribute NuWho.
Can't wait to watch this later tonight!
can't wait for this tonight its gonna be amazing!
Wonderful writer.
This whole drama was just abso wonderful :') Brilliant
Before this, I had that knack of seeing David Bradley for the first time as OMG! Is that William Hartnell/the 1st Doctor?!
How come this isn't as popular and talked-about as the 50th special?
Because David Tennant and Matt is more popular then this guy. David has more fangirls then we ever think XD and I'm a fan of David myself.
You have now proved that the majority of "Whovians" only watch Doctor Who because of the "hot and sexy" actors and not the series itself.
great video and doc for the beginning of the doctor wonder if the who franchise could use Mark Gatiss to remake the loss episodes
"I wish I knew what bloody dimension I was in" - Waris Hussein when filming the pilot episode of Doctor Who goes wrong. That scene really made me laugh. I wish I knew what bloody dimension my mum was in.

I can't keep up with everything. Is this something different than the 50th Anniversary show? When/where is it airing?
It aired Thursday evening on BBC Television
sweiland75 Sigh.
Thanks.
