    My question is: Can I use the Red / Amber LED taillights so that the amber light only turns on with the turn signals and the RED DRL strip only turns on when I press the brake pedal. I don't want the red led to be on all the time, I just want it to light up when I use the brake. Thank you

    Was thinking of connecting the rear variant on my Mk3 Ford Focus and not being an expert in any way was going to connect it to the side light bulb for its power firstly is this a bad Idea for fear of any overload issues and secondly the side light on my model doubles as a fog lamp so uses the double filament bulbs like cars used by cars that have combined tail/brake light units! Any advice would be appreciated!

    Can you test at lower voltage to see if they would work at 5v?

    hi ive installed brand new led strip to my vehicle but for some reason the sequential turning signal do not work (drl works fine) when the engine is on. when the engine is off it works perfectly fine. would you happen to know the cause of this thanks

      I few other people have had the same issue, but I have not been able to duplicate it and I don't know what they did to resolve it. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you.

    Hi James the Light Guy! Great content! I have the white strip in your video I noticed that it is just under 10amps and the red is under 5amps (main light load not indicator), my question is I want to link the white strips to my car fuse box. I would ideally like to connect both positives together and twist it then insert it into a piggy back fuse connector then into the fuse box (side light fuse port) which amp do I use? I assume its 20amps fuse is this correct? I added both assumed amps off your box readings and if I get larger or small 30 or 15 will this damage the fuse?

    • @Jamesthelightguy
      @Jamesthelightguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never put a higher rated fuse when replacing the original. The fuse is there too keep the wires in your car from melting. I believe the strips had a max draw of 1 Amp not 10 (and indicator .5 amp). You shouldn't need to work about overloading the original fuse.

      @elit3physique 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jamesthelightguy Ok my bad! So are you saying to ignore using a fuse? or which fuse should I use? 2amp fuse? the lowest I got is 5amp along with other higher fuses

    • @Jamesthelightguy
      @Jamesthelightguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      5 amp is plenty

    • @elit3physique
      @elit3physique 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jamesthelightguy Thanks man! Just out of curiosity if one was to use to higher amp then what the device recommended does that mean more electricity will be flowing through the device and the device may or may not run correctly and most likely inefficiently? And depending on the device a fire could occur because of combustion of the device?

    • @Jamesthelightguy
      @Jamesthelightguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, under normal conditions the fuse doesn't do anything because the current draw is less than the rating. Let's say the device only needs 4amps, a 5A, 10A, or greater won't increase that. If the device has a failure or something shorts to ground, the draw will rapidly increase. Once it reaches 5A the lowest fuse will blow, cutting the power. If you had a 30A fuse instead, the power (and heat) would increase throughout the circuit, possibly damaging other components until it reaches 30A or something catastrophic failed cutting the power.

    i installed these on my car and one side is always brighter than the other, even when i switch the lights over, does any one know why?

  • @scifiguy26
    @scifiguy26 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    So if i disable the DRL lights & just use the turn signal lights would they just stay on( because of the constant power going to them )or only come on when i hit the turn signal switch?

    • @Jamesthelightguy
      @Jamesthelightguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will work like that only if you connect both the main power wire and the signal wire on the strip to the turn signal power wire on you vehicle (and obviously the ground wire needs a connection).

    • @Jamesthelightguy

      On these sets, no. There are 12v amber led strips that could serve that purpose.

    How durable are these? Do they last a while?

    • @Jamesthelightguy
      @Jamesthelightguy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the except of ones that fail prematurely due to rare manufacturer defects, these strips are incredibly durable. They use very little electricity, so they don't overheat which is the most common cause of LED failure, and the silicone diffuser seals out moisture preventing corrosion of the strip inside. The weakest link in the assembly is the control box which I would recommend sealing to prevent corrosion of the board inside.
      These strips are fantastic and should last a very, very, very long time.
