Spielberg actually faxed him and said “thanks for the suggestion the crew got a good laugh out of it!” And he was too embarrassed to say he was serious
To add to the final fact. Steven managed to keep the original name rather than the crappy name by actually sending the guy who thought of the crappy name a letter telling him that the whole production team got a good laugh at his joke (Steven knew the guy was being serious but had to do this in order to keep the original title so he pretended that he thought it was a joke)
I had a coworker who got 4 hours a night. He is obsessed with always needing to do something. He said the house needed cleaning, the kids need to get to school, the cars need washed, breakfast needed made, the clothes needed washed, or something. He rarely complained, but that was what he got. He also is a Type 2 Diabetic. He eats junk food up the ying yang!
Another testament to Spielbergs genius is the story of how he managed to salvage the situation with Sheinberg. When everyone panicked about Sheinbergs title "Spaceman from Pluto", Spielberg wrote a one line note and sent it to him. It read "Good one Sid" It made Sheinberg realize how goofy the title would have sounded, and so the title went back to B2F. My two cents worth!
Not a secret, but something you probably didn't realize; Considering the events of all three movies, when Marty is in 1955, there are actually four different copies of the time machine there, at least for a short time. The first is the one that Marty uses to go back to 1955 in the first film. The second is the one that old Biff takes from 2015 in order to give the sports almanac to his younger self in the second film. The third is the one that Marty & Doc use to go back to 1955 from the alternate 1985 in the second film. And the fourth is the one that has been hidden in the cave since 1885 by Doc in the third movie.
The fact that all the events of BTTF happened in just a weekend blows my mind. Sure, it’s more than 1 weekend but they come back to the exact same time
Back to The Future is my all time favorite movie. I started watching when I was 7 and now I am 37. I know it line for line. I used to watch it every night. *I've never heard anyone mention the 88 MPH. Why this was chosen.* Did Doc choose that # or was it the speed required?? Basically, I theorize it is possible that Doc may have chosen the speed of 88 MPH purposefully for temporal displacement. Either way, *has anyone noticed 88 is two infinity symbols??* I always caught that, but never heard it mentioned once. I am sure of all the speeds the writers could have chosen, this is most likely indeed the reason.
Actually no, he himself said that he's not quite THAT good, so he just had to practice enough for it to look like he's playing it while the recording is actually another guy playing it.
Eric Stoltz is actually still in the movie. The part where Biff gets punched in the diner after Marty trips him? That’s Stoltz’s fist. Boom, bonus fact!
For Fox and filming both Family Ties and Back to the Future, I've heard he has a quote that says something along the lines of "I'm 20, I don't need to sleep" I'm pretty nerdy when it comes to this Trilogy, It never fails to make me smile when I watch it, and there's things that I still didn't know about it. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go spend 6 hours of my day and watch the full trilogy again.
MJF was filming both BTTF and Family Ties at the same damn time. He did not get a whole lot of sleep, 2-3 hours a night. That can dramatically weaken the immune system. Also, in BTTF Part 3, he was ACCIDENTLY hanged for 15, 20, 25 seconds, something like that, in the scene where the villain lynches him. Filming the scene, there was an accident. Michael was hanging, and loss consciousness. Think about the fact that those two situations could cause problems with the human body, especially the brain. Perhaps this would explain his diagnosis of Parkinson's disease a few years later. It would probably stand to reason.
There is no definitive cause for Parkinson's disease. It is a combination of genetic and environmental factors. It likely isn't one or two specific things. I don't think there is a link between brain injury and Parkinson's, but I could be wrong.
".....Sid Sheinberg's bullshit movie title" HAHAHAHAHA This narrator always does a great job. Always. And somehow I sense that he would make a great next-door neighbor....
Actually, Fox was the first choice for Marty, but originally Gary David Goldberg didn't let him do the film because he couldn't lose him for Family Ties. They came back to Gary and asked if it was still possible to use Michael and this time Gary told Michael the situation and Michael agreed to do it. He didn't know originally that they wanted him.
Here's my bonus fact. The orginal delerion prop was in universal studios was forgotten and basically fell apart over time. Eventually someone paid money for it, rebuilt it and then I think was brought back.
I'm surprised you stop short of explaining how Spielberg saved the title, as I think it's probably the most clever part of the story - he responded to the memo with one of his own, reporting that the exec's "joke memo" had been a highlight for them, that everyone got a kick out of; and the exec was too embarrassed to say he wasn't joking.
You've gotta give it to the guy; 'SpaceMan from Pluto' is such an imaginative title. I've written a book, it's called 'I get up and have a Shit in the Morning'.
Little known fact: Michael Stoltz's hand is actually the one that punched Biff in the first film, not Michael J Fox's, because the guy that played Biff actually has gone on record as saying that they never reshot that scene!

It was never going to be called Space Man from Pluto, in fact Spielberg shot it down by returning a letter to Sheinberg saying they loved his joke and that it made them all laugh, it was never brought up again.
what about Scott Bakula in the Café 80's on the stationary bike? He was staring in Quantum Leap at the time, a Time-travel TV show. Always found that cool when I was a kid. Two time travelers meeting up in the year 2015.
As for #5. You stated. *"Back to the Future II has some parts that take place in 2015. So it's kind of funny to see what the filmmakers thought the world would look like now, compared to how it actually turned out."* Actually the writers stated *they made the future so outlandish, they never planned to get any of it right* by a long shot. *The writers said they purposefully went over the top with the flying cars, hoverboards, etc. They didn't want to get it wrong.* Most people are unaware of this fact. Not to nitpick, but if you are doing a video on things "we didn't know about BTTF", you kind of need to get that part right. *Most everyone complains about BTTF 2015 never happening like the film. Well, it was never intended, that is the point.* Just a bit of info.
But BTTF got the most important part about the future right: We are living in an alternate reality where Donald "Biff Tannen" Trump is running a dystopian America. Biff was actually modeled on Trump....Marty, please go back and save us!
@@KingoftheJuice18 Ha! I did another video on that!!!!! They did get a lot right! Ironically, they didn't plan to. Quite the opposite. Like Marty being surprised Miami has a baseball team. That came true. It was all in the documentary on Netflix. Funny if you don't try to get it right, you end up getting a lot right. Sorta like Star Trek with the flip phones.
Here's another thing you guys may not have known. Charles Fleischer, Terry, was first seen in the future asking Marty to help save the clock tower and then later that movie he was seen again as the repair guy young Biff had who fixed his car after the manure incident.
There's loads THINGS YOU DIDNT KNOW videos about BTTF, this is the best one! Well done guys, another triumph of excellent research and great writing. Love you! x
No joke, I have actually met one of the two daughters of Charles Fleischer, either Jessica or Rachel I do not remember. I only remember that it was one of them because after filming a little short movie, a woman claimed to be the daughter of Charles and used terry from BTTF 2 as a way to prove it due to my short movie being based on time travel as well.
The tunnel in BTTF 2, where Marty tries to steal the sports almanac from Biff, is the same tunnel that's used as the entrance to Toon Town in "Who framed Roger Rabbit?"
Also there is A stuffed toy of Roger Rabbit in the shop where Marty buys the sports almanac. With Christopher Lloyd playing the bad guy. The ghostwriter for both movies is the same guy!
I've seen quite a few videos on "things you didn't know about BTtF," and yours is far and away the best! 8 and a half things I didn't know, plus 2 BOOM! bonus things! (I only knew the Zane thing)
Just a thought, but it would have been cool for Clint Eastwood to have a cameo in Back to the Future III in the saloon scene were Biff makes fun of Marty's name where he calls himself Clint Eastwood and Biff says,"what kind of a stupid name is that?" Kind of a missed opportunity I think 🙂
Back to the Future was shot on Orange circle, in old orange California. They had to build fronts for stores and the library doesn't really exist there. Another front. But interesting to see. Some good pubs and stores there if you ever choose to visit. Stop by Link's. A great hotdog joint.
What they didn't mention is HOW Spielberg got to keep his original title. He sent a letter to that old fossil of a CEO, thanking him for such a funny suggestion, and they all got a kick out of his joke. Needless to say, the big boss was too proud to admit it wasn't a joke, and Spielberg got his way.
Damn, MJF was dedicated...I couldn't handle working that much between a show and a movie with little sleep like that...they really ran him through the ringer.
I tend to stay away from those typical run of the mill nerd alien movies so I would definitely never have seen this if it was named Space men from Pluto
I can only imagine Shineburg's Spaceman from Pluto suggestion was purely out of misunderstanding of what the movie was about. Being so far up the ladder, I doubt he had any idea what the movies his underlings' underlings were managing were about. Kind of like how CEO's don't know much about the products their subdvision captians are in charge of. Or like how basically anyone not directly involved in any office project doesn't know anything about that project... Or like how 60% of people directly involved in the project don't know anything about the project. Spielberg probably walked in an diplomatically stated "the movie's about time travel, not aliens" and did the 80's equivalent of a mic drop and left.
What's the music you're using when that number "8" for fact number 8 pops up?? Thank you for all of the hard work, I really enjoy your videos and taste in your movie selection choices!
Space man from Pluto? Studio executives really don't know shit...I've heard of them possibly making the worst choices for things. Leave the creativity to the talent
re: #9 - I've heard the story was that upon hearing the crappy title, Spielberg wrote a letter to Sheinberg saying "LOL thanks for the funny joke note, you're hilarious! We all had a good laugh". And Sid was so embarased he went along and pretended he had in fact been joking all along.
Jeff Goldblum was offered the role of Dr. Brown. I can’t be alone in thinking that would make the film weird, right? It sure wouldn’t quash speculation about the exact nature of Marty and Doc’s relationship. Fortunately life, uh didn’t find a way.
The statue at Marty's house looks like Groot, when you zoom in. The writer of BTTF was a kid from Logan Utah. The Clock Tower Plaza, Bluebird Restaurant, LMC and Twin Pines Condos are real places in Logan Utah. LMC was owned by John Delorean and many DMC-12s were in the parking of LMC while BTTF was being written. The kid was born 11/16/76 and his initials are A.M. Look at the time for the Twin Pines Mall scene. The Bulldogs V.S. Indians posters at the school are referring to the North Cache Bulldogs and Preston high Indians. The writer used many first names of his relatives for the movie. Dave, Linda, Toby, Joey, Calvin, Mary ect. Hilldale is a city in Utah, look it up. There are many other things in the BTTF movies that point to the kid writer. The writer has written hundreds of screenplays, songs, TV shows and designed vehicles for his movies and real life. He also created concepts for thousands of video games like Mario, Sonic, Halo, Donkey Kong and Pac-Man. Toby's last name rhymes with Pac-Man and is the writer's cousin. Many of the writer's movie's contain references that will lead you to the writer, if you know what to look for. He is retired now but does small science projects when he feels like it.
787brx8: Dude, wtf are you talking about? Bob Gale wrote “Back to the Future”. He was born May 25, 1951 in Missouri. His initials aren’t ‘A.M.’ and he’s not from Utah. The Hildale in Utah is 1 L, not 2. Where in the world did you get your info from?
@@andrewbuback7862 I got the information from the guy himself! He also wrote Roger Rabbit and The Last Starfighter. That is why there are the Roger Rabbit references in BTTF2 and the Starcar from The Last Starfighter also makes an appearance. When you know all the stuff I know about his movies, it makes it A mathematical impossibility that anyone else wrote them.
not only i'd like to see a video about roger rabbit but also , a 107 things version of the back to the future talk as well as a video discussion involving the teen wolf movies
For people who are genetically susceptible to Parkinson’s Disease, extreme physical stress like long periods of time without proper sleep can trigger the illness!
There was a 'very special' episode of Family Ties where MJF gets addicted to adderall in order to stay up and study. This is where the Parkinsons came from!
Frequent head trauma can't have helped either (MJF is known for doing most of his own stunts) - that is actually perhaps the most prominent thing believed to trigger Parkinson's. That's why e.g. Muhammad Ali developed it after a long career consisting of recurring blows to the head.
Fun fact about Who Framed Roger Rabbit: the shot where Roger backs up against the wall really tall on the tips of his toes was not originally supposed to be animated that way. When editing, they found that the actor was looking too high to be looking at Roger, so they made Roger overreact to be taller. Learned this from an animation techniques text book written by the director. (I think it was the director, not 100% sure though.) It also has some other original sketches from the movie in it.
As an kid in the 80s who skated, thats how everyone carried their board when not riding. Heck just having a wide "fat" skateboard ment you were a serious skater back then, You also had to have pads and number plates on your bmx bike as well LOL! I wouldnt trade being an 80s kid for anything.
Ha!!! I knew every single one of these facts, and the last fact about the title change had a little extra to it. Spielberg (or someone else) sent a letter or memo to the head boss saying something like "thank you for the laugh. We all had a good chuckle down here". And thats how they got out of the crappy title ;)
Another fact between Roger Rabbit and BTTF: The narrow tunnel in BTTF II, where young Biff chases Marty with the hoverboard, is actually the same tunnel used in Roger Rabbit movie.
You didn't mention what Spielberg said to Shineburg that made him change his mind. In a company memo; "Thanks for the joke Sid, I showed everyone at work and they all had a good laugh."
I came to see if anyone else picked up on that too :D I was totally expecting him to include that and he just left it there! Unbelievable, it was such a brilliant and funny move from Spielberg that not mentioning it was such a waste of an opportunity!
Another interesting fact about Back To the Future... The guitar Marty plays (a Gibson ES-345) in the first movie didn't exist in 1955 and wasn't in production until 3 years later in 1958. Also by 1955 Chuck Berry was already an established RnB act with a #1 RnB hit Maybellene recorded 6 months prior to when Marty enters the past.
Back to the future has made me the nerd today. When I was about 3, I’d watch the movies back to back consistently on VHS and Back to the future still never gets old.
Back to the Future is probably my favorite trilogy in history. One of the very few series where each movie has it's own individual story that is told well. And, even though Back to the Future II ends with a cliffhanger, it's not a movie that was basically one big set up for Back to the Future III, which is a mistake lots of trilogies these days make. They do the first film, then when it's successful and they get the green light to make it a trilogy, they just use the 2nd movie to set up for the 3rd movie. Love the video guys! Great work as always. There's a reason this is my favorite TH-cam channel. Would love to see a 2nd if you've got it, and would enjoy a Who Framed Roger Rabbit one as well.
That's why MJF is a great actor, he wasn't only acting as Marty, he was also acting a functioning human on set.
And a politician teenager
That's why Fox was so huge. That work ethic is impressive.
I believe he was huge as well ;)

Space men from pluto: the roger rabbit story. Starring Daffy Duck. Pay me now.
0:37 Unfortunately?!?
More like FORTUNATELY
It wouldn't be the same without Fox
thanks for giving yet again more appreciation for another movies
im here after a back to the future marathon
4:12 There's also easter egg of JAWS in corner. They did go in 2015 (which movie was made in 1972) and Back to the Future Pt. II was made in 1989.
If Goldblum did get the role, then Rick and Morty would be very different
When you know all the stuff I know about his movies, it makes it A mathematical impossibility that anyone else wrote them.
not only i'd like to see a video about roger rabbit
but also , a 107 things version of the back to the future talk
as well as a video discussion involving the teen wolf movies
For people who are genetically susceptible to Parkinson’s Disease, extreme physical stress like long periods of time without proper sleep can trigger the illness!
Shaboi_Mike That would make a lot of sense! How else could you keep up that kind of shooting schedule in the 1980’s without powdering your nose?
Shaboi_Mike and being an alcoholic as well.
Christopher Marlowe Excellent point!
Fleischer had two roles in BTTF2 as he also played the auto repair man that cleaned up and fixed Biffs car in 1955.
1:01 any skaters here gonna just ignore how he is holding his board
At least he's not a poser
As an kid in the 80s who skated, thats how everyone carried their board when not riding. Heck just having a wide "fat" skateboard ment you were a serious skater back then, You also had to have pads and number plates on your bmx bike as well LOL! I wouldnt trade being an 80s kid for anything.
@@jasonrackawack9369 I would too, being a 2005 now
Ha!!! I knew every single one of these facts, and the last fact about the title change had a little extra to it. Spielberg (or someone else) sent a letter or memo to the head boss saying something like "thank you for the laugh. We all had a good chuckle down here". And thats how they got out of the crappy title ;)
For the love of God - PART 2 PLEASE@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another fact between Roger Rabbit and BTTF:
The narrow tunnel in BTTF II, where young Biff chases Marty with the hoverboard, is actually the same tunnel used in Roger Rabbit movie.
Something small but Twin Pines Mall is named Lone Pine Mall in the first movie after Marty gets back from 1955
Marty drove over the second pine.
Periodic - I've filed that in the 'No shit, Sherlock' drawer.
Fox was AMAZING! I don’t think BTTF would be favourite movie with out Fox
Thank you Mr. Spielberg for saving us from that st*pid title [6:52] 😬✌
1-3, 7, and 9-those are all the ones I already knew. I’m a huge fan of this franchise, so you guys surprised me with the things I didn’t know.
About as perfect as a movie gets. I think Fargo qualifies, too.
I know a LOT about Back to the Future, but you actually got me on a few of these. Congrats! :)
Christopher Loyd would’ve been a great Doctor Who
hilton driver - A yank? No way!
I think he'd be a great Doctor Phil
Doctor who?
This is the best TH-cam channel. I basically don’t watch movies, but I watch this channel.
Hope you're joking...
Michael J Fox was the man in the 80's!!! He was a freakin' Superstar, dude was huge!!!
Would totally like the roger rabbit and a part 2 for this. you guys rock.
Pls do a part 2 and a Roger Rabbit!! I love all of these videos. If you can make a part 2 on any episode, make them happen.
The lack of sleep for Michael J Fox may have contributed to his early onset of Parkinson's disease
Another episode of Back to the Future would be cool.
