    Those little fish around your light were ballyhoo. They're excellent bait. The shark was a bonnethead, a close but smaller relative to hammerheads. You can tell by the rounded head. Hammerheads are flatter in front. Bonnetheads are pretty good to eat. Great for ceviche.

    That first fish you called a croaker is a lane snapper. They have to be 8 inches to keep. Be careful. The FWC does come around the skyway.

      Thanks, appreciate your help. For some reason I thought it was a bait fish. I’ll take a closer look at the fish on the video.

      @@flygreenturtle1429 that spot on the side is the giveaway that it's a lane snapper. Mutton snapper have it too but that was a lane. You definitely could have been given a ticket for keeping it.

    The skyway is only productive if you know where and when the bites happen. Lots of grouper and mackerel caught there nearly everyday. For mackerel you need shiny lures or small live baits, the grouper eat those big pinfish you dumped back, bring crabs for sheepshead. we get pompano and mackerel just throwing jigs .

      Hi Miranda when do the pompano run through the the skyway?

    • @mirandamaher9465
      @mirandamaher9465 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wiiwanna they come through heavy in the spring and fall ,but some are being caught right now from anna maria all the way up to anclote river. Red tide did impact the migration some this year though. De Soto bay side pier also holds lots of pomps. But the rails are packed, have to get there early.

    there are other bridges that are free .. smaller bridges that have a walkway for fishing along the side of them ... also you had a kayak you could have just parked on one side there a rest area and you can launch from the beach there.. paddle out a ways from the bridge look for rocks or small structure and drop live pinfish for grouper .. or just use the shrimp you have .. .. also your chum was insufficient.. you need generally a 1/2lb or full pound block of frozen chum (it lasts longer as it melts) search .. florida wooden boat fishing.. he does a lot of bridge fishing as well i hit skyway once last year when i was visiting my brother in ocala.. i took the 2 hour + trip from ocala.. just to fish the skyway.. hooked into a damn goliath.. got him up to the surface of the water .. we saw each other.. and he apparently didnt like the look of me.. went straight down and broke my 30lb braid :) so you can catch or at least hook some big fish off skyway :)

    Those are 2/0 sabikis I think. The /0 is like the 00 buck shot, it means big. You want like number six either red or green or both. Look up the saltwater reg brochure! Fdub would not like to see an undersized lane in a “tank” next to a bucket of shrimp, just want you to have fun exploring and catching! Not in trouble with Johnny Law because FWC doesn’t play and I would hate for a court date to give you a bad taste about what you’re doing. It’s cool to see you’re excitement and interest and soon enough you’ll be hooked lol
