Resident Evil Village is a 2021 survival horror game developed and published by Capcom. It is the sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017). Players control Ethan Winters, who searches for his kidnapped daughter in a village filled with mutant creatures. Village maintains survival horror elements from previous Resident Evil games, with players scavenging environments for items and managing resources. It adds more action-oriented gameplay, with higher enemy counts and a greater emphasis on combat.
Resident Evil Village was announced at the PlayStation 5 reveal event in June 2020 and was released on May 7, 2021, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, followed by a macOS version and a cloud version for Nintendo Switch in October 2022. An iOS version was released on October 30, 2023.
The game received generally favorable reviews, with praise for its gameplay, setting, and variety, but criticism for its puzzles, boss fights, and performance issues on the Windows version; the increased focus on action divided opinions. Resident Evil Village won year-end accolades including Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards. The game had sold 8.3 million units by June 2023.

Bro when an iPhone can run high end console games at a better resolution/fps then the switch you know it’s time for an upgraded switch😂
Switch has 2015 nvidia shield hardware 🤣
I mean isn't the iphone like 800? Literally over the price of a ps5, I think for the price of a switch it's fine as it Is.
@@3n3j0t4 facts I love my switch but goddamn dude they need a more powerful switch 2 already😭😂
@@jesusisrael4122the upgraded 15 pro max is $1100 I believe
@@3n3j0t4 Thankfully the switch 2 is rumored to be on par with the Xbox series S while docked, and on par with/more powerful then a base ps4 in terms of power while in handheld mode. That plus having dlss and double the ram etc should make it be able to run games like this way better. Hopefully the rumors are true.
I gotta say, I like Unreal Engine as much as the next guy, but this *really* goes to show the value of an in-house engine and programmers that know that engine almost line by line.
RE on iPhone, Spider-Man 2 on PS5, and now Alan Wake 2 on PC are just superb examples of passionate developers pouring every ounce of love, technology, and optimization into making something truly special, in-house, and targeting specific hardware.
Alan Wake 2? Did you seriously give that as an example for good optimization? Doesn't that game have insanely high requirements, and run with 44FPS on a 4090?
@@Titansilber.540ithe requirements were way overblown. The game runs fine
Totally. It's just really expensive to do it like that.
You are kidding me Alan wake 2 that game has worse optimization even worse than cyberpunk.

No matter how you slice it, thats pretty impressive for a pocket sized device.
It will be awesome to see if Digital Foundry covers RE Village on the iPhone.
I expect them to. They did a full video on MetalFX upscaling when Apple released that a year or two ago I believe, so they will definitely cover this!
can't wait for that
Devs did a really good job optimizing the game to run on it
lol devs litterally ported the console version to the mobile with bad controls, this is not optimized for iphone at all.
@@shubham40901Okay buddy so any game on Console can ported over to Arm? So then why aren’t we getting more Releases to Mac and IPhone?
@@JohnnyCheddar there is no point in cheap porting like to just reducing resolution, texture resolution and post processing, game will jitter and it will look bad. This port is forced, must be financed by apple to showcase gpu power. And again gaming company don't do proper port coz return on investment is going to be less. Serius gamer play on console which is cheaper than such iPhone. Mobile gaming is done by either casual gamers or those kids who can't afford console or pc so basically they can't afford powerful iPhone either. Gamers don't buy Mac so again less roi Mac ports.

I'm not a fan of Apple but I would be mad dumb to not acknowledge how far and fast their APU tech has progressed. They're not only powerful but efficient at the cost of aggressive pricing but there you have it. It'll be really cool to see where this all goes in just 10 years.
If they get more seriously into gaming they will easily crash these crap steam decks
Its also the reason why Apple sells alot in Asian countries people buy them not just for camera and wanting to look cool but because of the performance.

Android performs better
The sync issues might be because of the variable frame rate, I remember having the same problem on PC and it was fixed when I put it on 120, or 60.
The iphone 15 feels like the prototype model for mobile gaming on THIS scale. I imagine through feedback from channels like yours and the average consumer as well, they will continue tweaking it to the point where by maybe Iphone 16 or 17, it is able to run these games with better frame consistency and not cause the phone to overheat. Either way, this was impressive to see!
I'm honestly curious to see if it'll actually work this time. Developers tried to release full games on phones ages ago, but found most users weren't willing to spend more than $5 on phone apps, even if they were full games.
Yes and when Apple develops their own “dlss”.
@@tylerN76796 They already did, it's called MetalFX

Not the first time people pitch this sort of work, and not the first time they do it with iPhone either. It's a fad that will run its course, once again. The phone is more expensive than an actual console for a considerably worse experience overall
Once they start bringing AAA games to iPad, I think that’ll be the big mobile gaming shake up because it’s already great for productivity unlike the Steam Deck or ROG Ally or even Switch
Yes. They need to bring more AAAs to their catalogue though.
games like Stellaris, age of empires, dota, lol etc would be great on Ipad....

They’re bringing them to all the m chip series iPads I believe (ac mirage and the other triple a games they’re adding)
Since I think it's relevant to your comment I'll say here what I have said in the comments.
I think Apple have a knack for investing in a niche as a tangible proof of concept that feeds back into their ecosystem in some way. They have a very loyal and on-board userbase who enjoy the overlap with their software across their products. If they can have it be viable on an iPhone then it seems natural to then approach the Macs with their new hardware, architectural familiarity with their use of ARM and the familiar software integration which is often quite frictionless. So to address what Luke was saying about gaming on Mac I would say that they are going about it in reverse. They have the user base on mobile to justify that being a more effective launching pad. It creates separation between the usual perception of Windows vs Mac in gaming while making the type of experience they can offer be more core to the ecosystem that their userbase is very much locked into.
I think a recent example that adds to my speculation is Apple having seen what Valve has been doing in the gaming space developing Proton (essentially Wine) on Linux; using Wine lately as part of their game "porting" toolkit on Mac. I am far from an Apple fan but they are not shy about taking established ideas and even code to offer more than before if they see enough incentive. I would say they're often late in many areas but there's little reason for them to ever care when they have such a loyal fanbase. My interests are outside of using their ecosystem so I and some of us were never the target audience yet Apple have plenty already who have an iPhone who many already likely game on other systems. Maybe the iPhone for them is the key in further justifying the Mac. They rarely seem scared into being early in a market when they earn plenty with their established IP. Slow and steady wins the race; especially when you have the time, money and resources along with work from others that has shown potential that they can implement and define such potential in the confines of their familiar, widely used and often frictionless ecosystem.
I could be way off base but of all companies to be so ruthless and do it in a way that seems so casual does not surprise me and as much as such potential has been afforded to gamers and power users for a long time those alone are not a wider ecosystem that of course would matter to them more than what we enjoy. Plenty of their users in some ways have accepted less to have the ecosystem they enjoy and being loyal in some way seems to be a narrative that plays out, having Apple offering more over time that is integrated in ways that feel core to the experience, in turn justifying the loyalty some hold in their minds. So many cards have been shown by others that such a company has afforded enough time I think to play their best hand. Time will tell. I and many of us likely prefer what we can do now outside of such an ecosystem. I enjoy spending time tinkering to have something be how I want but many do not and that's a viable audience that consoles already prove to exist and maybe it all integrating together is the icing on the cake for a well-established userbase on iPhone.
The touch screen controls seem unusable. I'd be interested to see you try it with them to get past the opening section where you need to survive. I can't see a way to use them without obscuring almost the entire game. How would you move and shoot while aiming for example? With triggers becoming face buttons your loose ease of access with your pointer and middle fingers.
The touch controls are a compromise to even use it at all without a controller. This is so much of a direct port of the Mac version that they didn't even add touch support for the menu. It took me a minute to figure out why the menu was unresponsive (I thought the game had crashed). It turns out you needed to use the on-screen controls to even select menu options. This port and the fact that you can play the opening for free is 100% Apple pushing the game into as many peoples hands as possible so they can prove that an iPhone is as good as or better than something like a Steamdeck or ROG Ally. Put a Backbone One on it and it could easily be your portable console. If Apple ever allowed Steam on iOS (never going to happen, I know), it would dominate handheld gaming.
@@mpulsivityyes, all those ports Apple announced are not actually meant for iPhone and iPad, but rather for M3 Macintoshes. And maybe for a game version of Apple TV. M3 can easily outdo PS5/XB in performance and graphics.
@@tatianaes3354 OR, you could use a controller on your phone, like we do with PC ports of console games like Lucky's Tale or Spider-Man

@@BrenoGF144 That is the equivalent of using a cast iron skillet in an easy bake oven. Why?
As someone who have played Alien Isolation (Mobile Port) on an Iphone 13, this is a impressive and good stepping stone for mobile ports, however, i do think there are still a lot of things to consider playing an AAA game on a mobile device this small, one is the screen is very small, if youre just using the touch screen to play this, you can barely see anything ( a controller is a must or else it will get frustrating during enemy encounters) and might get dizzy after 30 minutes or so, because of motion sickness or just unable to focus the things on the screen, second is the device itself will really burn up, like an oven, after a while u will need to put it down or else the frames of the game will drop drastically (around 5-15 FPS when enemy encounters, and can barely play it) due to the device overheating, after these two points i pointed out, i do think the industry is trying to push the limits of mobile devices and its impressive to see that, but i still think if you really want to fully play story heavy driven games like these on the go, PC handhelds are still the way go to, trust me , u wont want to experience this on such a small screen like this, on an ipad is okay, but on an Iphone, i trully dont encourage this way to play, but this is just my opinion .
Its a stepping stone and a necessary step, on an iphone 17 18 there will be more AAA games and they will be more stable
my Samsung doesn't get hot playing Alien isolation it stays cool max graphics 😂
This is true, any game on a small screen is not as fun as it seems unless it was designed for it. Ie Nintendo ports are good, AAA shooters not so much
The screen is bigger than the og switch it is fine lol
I completed Alien Isolation on my iPhone 13 and it’s the first mobile port of a console game that blew my mind.
Luke’s outros are getting more and more sophisticated.
The fact that it's scaled down to a smaller screen makes a difference. I would be interested to see how it outputs to a big screen tv
it clearly looks soft from the recording so other than that it wont look too different from the phone screen
it's still the a television scale res
Can't wait to see how open-world games such as Death Stranding will look and feel on an iPhone
the visuals are beyond impressive, but i bet u could cook up some lovely scrambled eggs with the temperature the phone reaches 😅
Mmm that sounds good, can we get some bacon too ?
Now I'm a long-time Samsung user, but knowing this game can run on mobile, it really makes me want to switch to the iPhone 15 series.
Never been a better time to switch
Idk I might wait to iPhone 16 to switch with the negatives I've heard of the 15 and I'm an apple user already
Then you can hand me over the Samsung...am still stuck on Samsung S9 🥹
For those wondering about Apple, this will only work on IPhone 15 Pro models and iPad Pro (3rd-6th generations) and Air model (5th generation).
I’m actually really surprised how good this looks defo gonna get this
now you can play with the Big-Woman while riding the metro!

I’m curious to see if this becomes a more common practice with less intensive games like indies, Hollow Knight for example would be a perfect game to have one a mobile format like this.
Rocket league would be perfect

Funny enough Hollow Knight's been unofficially ported on android for awhile now. Not on the play store however but I downloaded an apk of it online and it runs very well. Already finished with my first run xD

Hope in the future this will get even crazier lol
Quite extraordinary how you're getting 25+ fps on a iPhone, that too while recording your screen. They did a good job on this.
Top 10 reasons why this is a bad idea:
1. Its a phone. You need battery on your phone. You are not going to waste battery playing Resident Evil Village
2. Its a phone. I struggle to see some things on my 14 inch laptop in a lot of games, i can't imagine the squinting needed for a phone screen.
3. Its a phone. You are not going to carry a controller with you to play this game on breaks and you are not using the touch controls.
4. Its a phone. Its not a gaming console, you cant pause the game and pick it back up later, you will have to save, quit manually (which takes time, specially if you are not next to a saving slot in village). If you leave the game running you will burn your pocked and/or run out of battery. here is a little POV for you guys: "Oh im playing REViillage in the train, but i need to get off on the next stop. OH crap! Im in the middle of fighting Moreau, what do i do?"
5-10. Its a phone???
IDK cant think of any more reasons im pretty sure what i said is enought on why nobody is going to play console games on a PHONE.
Buy hey pretty cool that a phone can run the game tho
Sooooo… you’re against handheld gaming also? The phone allows you to carry one device around rather than 2 separate devices if you game on the go.
of course not, handhelm is great! But a Switch and Steam Deck, heck even the PSP, PSVIta, 3DS and DS have features such as pause/suspend that makes it actually good to play in small play sessions. You dont need to quit the game to pause it, and you can pick it back up in an instant lol@@Bendaak
I get to the village and for some reason it stops and closes out why

What are you using for screen casting from the phone.

How long the battery last while you're playing this game?
Me watching it on my phone to cancel out any potential bad resolution
Hey Luke what's the battery life like. My phone can be a 50% playing a game
I don't know how much time play time of AC OR RE games haha you'd need to stay on charge.. personally I'm not a Apple person
One problem I could see is the constant heat damaging the battery
Honestly gotta say pretty cool it’s on an iPhone and working but if you’re someone who even causally games and has a console you’re still paying full price on IOS might as well just cop physical console version.
Maybe they’ll implement some games into Apple Arcade so if you use the one plan for music and tv you get that but doubt it
Does the game support DS4 Controller bro?
is this game support native PS Button ?
Stadia on Android was very impressive, just a shame it never caught on. I loved it while it lasted 😢
This is basically the same.
But stadia copy on Apple with backbone controllers and not exclusive controller like stadia did.
These guys have been around for a while and even sponsored skillup in one of their older videos.
@@ak-ub1ym stadia was cloud streaming, I was able to play cyberpunk on pixel phone and had the option of touch screenn or physical controller. You didn't have to use stadia controller but if you did it reduced the lag
I wouldn’t go near cloud gaming. Apple is doing it correctly.
@Ben Any modern gaming now is considered as part of cloud gaming.
Cloud gaming isn't only limited to streaming of games but also where the files are shared from.
And there have been console game ports to mobile way like
1. Dead space mobile version
2.Re4 for 2010 phones
For even older phones:
Capcoms legacy collection for older windows/nokia phones and even Tekken had mobile version on flip phone.
Even way way before apple came into the picture and apple is playing catch-up now.

Been gaming on my phone for years, emulating snes, n64, ps1, psp, ps2, nds, 3ds, gc/wii
A decent phone these days has the ability to be some of the best portable emulation devices out there. Android emulation keeps getting better, less battery intensive and gives you multi-plat multi-gen access to some of the best games ever made.
@The-Anti
Nowhere did I mention apple though. I said android. Apple is terrible for emulation. It doesn't have even a fraction of the emulator options that Android does.
@The-Anti
Maybe the guy got censored lol. Or changed his mind.
Will the VR be supported later?
I used to play cod on my iPhone SE (just to see if it could, it absolutely can which is incredible in its own right) and the heat issue appears there too. I found that I could play it by learning it against a fan and leaving it plugged into a charger for as long as I wanted to with no overheating. I’m thinking that would be the case here too.
I think Apple is laying the stones for Apple VR, so when that comes out, there will be more triple A third party games available on their platform instead of some silly mobile games that under utilise the VR device. This actually make quite excited for the VR device
The iPhone 15 spicy happy meal is a legit phone to be fair
What is pretty sad is how they announced rtx later than snap dragon, how they exaggerated the power of the iPhone 15, when it is literally on par of snap dragon gen 2 which was released wayyy earlier than the new a17 bionic, also it runs 30 fps with crashes and stutter
Wow apple is making strides into the gaming industry
Exciting times
(Yes I know Android has started efforts from before, but in terms of industry changing, this is a leap)
Android doesn't target single player blockbusters.
You've had some great mobile ports on mobile. Strategy and turn-based games translate to mobile exceptionally well. Playing full version of Civilisation 6 on a mobile is such an amazing experience.
If it still takes a year to release a game on the machine it was literally created on, I wouldn't expect too much from phone developers yet. Still amazing strides in technology.
My longtime dream is to play proper fighting games like Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Soulcalibur or DoA on smartphones, but not in smaller, mobile versions. I never understood why we don't have these. There are games like Shadow Fight 3 and 4 - these work great. I play Tekken 6 from PSP on emulator on my Android phone, an it also works fantastic. So now, when you can pair almost every bluetooth controller with any smartphone, I hope we will be getting better looking big titles on mobile devices more often.
I just recently switched from iphone to the z fold 5. Triple a games on this phone would be amazing.
I thought it was pretty rough and the frame-rate is all over the place honestly. I think they need to release a performance patch asap.

Imagine if Windows Mobile still existed. It'd have all the benefits that iOS and macOS have like easiness of porting games (this game is a modified Mac version), but instead you could start with Windows versions as a starting point. And even in 2015 Microsoft was trying to get developers on board by arguing that UWP apps could be shared between Xbox, PC and Mobile with little to no code changes. They were even toying with the idea of bringing some support of Win32 programs on mobile. Imagine how evolved that could have been by now
Hi Luke

There's no cooling other than thermal paste in a phone so not shocking that it's getting really hot. Probably not great for the phone.
