We have this model machine at our shop. At the 3:44 mark it appears that the head locking lever is disengaged, shouldn't the head be locked before setting the depth gauge? The lever on our machine is nearly at a 90 degree angle when locked and vertical when unlocked.

The head locking is tulock side-to-side motion. The depth gauge is to set the depth of cut on an auto grind unit. For best accuracyit would be best to lock the column first then set your depth of cut however it's not absolutely necessary you can do these in either order and still have a successful grind. Machines depth of cut setting. A dial indicator and flat bar are the better way to make your measurements and use the machine settings only to get close to the desired depth.
