@@SomeOrangeCat True, but remember at launch people bought the PS2 for DVDs, in Japan it sold at 10:1 systems to games for the first few years.
The Dreamcast version has faster loading times, faster transitions between pre-rendered backgrounds, brighter lighting. Unfortunately, the Dreamcast's controller's lack of enough buttons and a single analog stick were a problem. The only aspects in which the PS2 version was better were the controls (due to the Dual Shock 2's double analog sticks and more buttons) and characters with moving lips. What BOTH versions are completely lacking is the MUSIC, which was very distorsioned; a problem also shared with the PC version. In this aspect, the PLAYSTATION1 Version was the only one to get it right, being the best one in this department.
Games like GT4 and The Getaway look pretty realistic, shame the architecture was so bloody complex. Seems the other way around to me
XD oh the irony......you people are so pathetic....XD.....zero self reflection
I hope yall are kidding around. Cause this is pretty sad. Goodness gracious just enjoy what you have and don’t have. I still play my ps2 and Dreamcast today. They’re great systems. Along with the Xbox and GameCube since that generation is still full of amazing games I’m getting around to. AND I use my vita. But more so my PlayStation TV, I have the OLED vita but I recently hacked the pstv to play a lot of jrpgs off my tv.
PlayStation fans have a massive chip on their block. PS2 is a console with many great games, but the fact is it can only compete with Dreamcast/GCN/Xbox graphically due to rendering 40% less pixels.
Interesting the Dreamcast version seems to look superior to the PS2. Its not stated in the video description but I assume the Dreamcast is VGA and the PS2 is Component?
That would be interesting to know but perhaps it’s more to do with the Dreamcast being 480p and the PS2 being 480i? Component video can handle 480p if the software can deliver the signal
Dreamcast had more vram than the PS2.
Dreamcast has double or twice as much video ram 8 MB / PS2 4 MB
@@waynetemplar2183The Ps2 version of the game outputs a 240p frame buffer. That’s all you get, no magic cable can change that.
Ps2’s was memory limited and throughout its very long life span has consistently output much lower pixel counts, IQ, and/or texture definition.
@@wordsshackles441some would say the ps2 actually held back that era of gaming open world. GameCube and Xbox were both vastly superior but every game had to be made with ps2 in mind.
excellent comparison, as always
Sega needs to make a Dreamcast 2
Why would they? There's no financial reason to do so.
@@SomeOrangeCat because the original one was awesome 😎
@@Freshprincephilly From a business standpoint that's not a compelling reason. Sega has made more money as a third party publisher than they ever did as a console manufacturer. They finally found the success that eluded them during the "vs Nintendo" years. Why throw that away?
@@SomeOrangeCat thanks for destroying my dream lol
@@Freshprincephilly hehehe Dreamcast never dies
The DCHDMI mod to your Dreamcast looks fantastic comoared to the PS2 component!
Dc wins 🎉
damn, dreamcast was such a impressive effort from sega... Wish sega was still on the market...
Is it just me or does the Dreamcast seem more fluid, even without the constant 1-second pauses?... The Dreamcast is the most underrated video game console ever, and as the years go by, it's only been more obvious. The GameCube is second on that list (that list being made up of my personal opinions and nothing else).
Those pauses were because DC had to wait for PS2 to finish loading. In real time there are no pauses while playing the game, only for this comparison.
Great comparation,great game.saludos Mundomakina
It just goes to show that Sega Dreamcast had it going on when it not only outperformed the PS1, but even the PS2.
Apparently it couldn't outperform the PS2 in the one area it needed to most.
@@SomeOrangeCat in sales, yep
@@SomeOrangeCat True, but remember at launch people bought the PS2 for DVDs, in Japan it sold at 10:1 systems to games for the first few years.
Dreamcast was bought purely by people who wanted to play.
Still, not like any of the 6th gen systems was a bad one to be on if you wanted a good time(or STILL want in regards to Dreamcast and Xbox, to a lesser extent GameCube and their independent releases these days)
Really great game i play one when released on ps1. Back then this game had 9/10 score
At the time, I thought Code Veronica and Ecco also looked better on the Dreamcast, more vibrant colours and sharper image.
Could you make a comparison of Time Crisis 2 Arcade vs Playstation 2? There are no comparisons of the game on youtube. Great videos by the way!
PC Version was nice in high res as well. Was awesome. One of the first games that had proper game pad support on PC then.
PC wasn't being compared here.
PC was being commented on, here.
@@Jammet The video is about the Dreamcast and Playstation. Yeah, people get off topic.
Better game than the 2024 version.
I remember I played this game in DC and ps1 and both have fixed audio.
Guess what? PS2 and PC were ported by Spiral House and has a lot of Bugs.
@@maxwellr5251what i Say.. DC and PS1 are Darkworks work.
Dreamcast them like a 4K Machine, and Ps2 like a HD Ready Machine.
this game now available at Playstation Game store its optimaze with 30hz - 60hz frame rate
Life is always alone in the dark,if u don't let your dark memory go away.
Even now I love this game
My Childhood 😍 Still waiting for a remake 🤲
There are a few games with a 480p mode on PS2, Alone in the Dark is obviously not one of them.
Queria VCdecide comparece DOA2 SD Remaster, contra o port porco do PS2, nossa, iria dar choro.
I see squares popping up on the Dreamcast version now and again, but the Dreamcast version is much clearer.
Ps2= better lighting and more particle effects, DC has higher quality textures and looks more contrast-y.
DC wins
Ken Kutaragi was right. The PS2 looks identical to a live action film. Good thing most people waited 2 years for his gift to mankind.
Yes, a good old VHS low resolution -footage on year 2001.
Games like GT4 and The Getaway look pretty realistic, shame the architecture was so bloody complex. It was still superior to Dreamcast imo when it comes to graphical complexity, but it should've been given it was released 18 months later.
DC still my favourite console though, for 1998 tech it was amazing
I think the Dreamcast looks sharper and has better color, but the PS loads faster. Of the two, I would definitely prefer the Dreamcast version, but I can see the possible argument that the softer visuals might smooth over some of the clunkier graphics in general.
if PS2 games were on 4.7 GB or 8.5 GB DVD disc i imagine they would’ve loaded slower than a Dreamcast disc game 1.2 GB
The Dreamcast is actually the one who loads faster on this video. It gets paused on the editing so that the PS2 can catch up.
Dreamcast 10 M - PS2 156 M. Chuttttt....
Nintendo DS sold 154.2M and actually sold to gamers, not DVD watchers. Cope dude.
Like all Dreamcast games PS2 conversions. Dreamcast Wins !!!
Its a pretty hollow victory, when its a pretty poor game to begin with.
dreamcast version looks great :3
Sega wins hands down
Dont think this game was optimized for Ps2 hence the low quality textures/bitmaps due to the 4mb of vram that developers won't bother fixing unlike for PC and even dreamcast, seeing how long it takes to load in between levels tells you about the less optimizations
The vast majority of early PS2 ports were bad. Yet people think the Dreamcast was the more powerful console.
Dreamcast fanboys are so annoying that even after 2 and a half decades they’re still salty about PS2 destroying their little beloved toy.
@@Ioannis.Stf.1996 Even then i think there are some early ports that are better in PS2, such as Half Life 1, Code Veronica or Seaman.
I agree, plus even if PS2 was less powerful (which it isnt) optimization and developers would still make the difference and not the specs of the console.
PS2 - 6.2 gflops.
Dreamcast - 1.4 gflops.
é fato que o PS2 tem mais hardware . Os Seguistas querem rescrever a história .
Same tired backward excuses to justify blatant Ps2 HW deficiencies.
@@Ioannis.Stf.1996the Sega Dreamcast actually was superior to the PS2 in many aspects. Not all ... but many. Including res frames and anti aliasing and more.
The Dreamcast might win with Graphics but the PlayStation 2 definitely had better controls I had this on both consoles
The Dreamcast keep dream
The 6th gen versions of this game should have been rebuilt from the ground up like RE1make
PS2 has better lighting , but I'll pick the Dreamcast version 😓
DC absolutely slamdunked ps2 here....Again! What were the specs for Dreamcast and Playstation 2?
PS2 had a superior processing and RAM technical specification, but the DC has more video memory, sound channels and VGA digital video output, while the PS2 had the most it had was a component analog image.
PS2 - 6.2 gflops
DC - 1.4 gflops
@@Ychigo100 One thing to note is that the PS2 runs internally at 512 x 448i(2x224P) upscaled to 640 x 480i in 480i/P games, while Dreamcast GameCube and Xbox can do full 720 x 480P, 576P(GameCube) and native 1080i(Xbox)
Resolution is a BIG factor in performance, it can make the difference between playable and slideshow.
The Dreamcast could look beter in specific games, but the Ps2 just got better with time with most of it's games being impossible on DC.
I love ps2 but honestly it looked blurry then the other one, the other one had more crisp
I was wondering ... where can I buy this game ? 😮
Bien dicho
More like 3x the resolution on the DC.
The best Alone in the Dark game.
I loved this game on PS1, Keep em guessing.
Lol. According to one of the Sega fanboys who replied to me, this game would not run on the OG Playstation, not realize that was the original version.
I remember buying this crappy game because I call myself saving the dreamcast...lol I would buy most games during 2000-2003 run. I even bought the Japanese Gundam game that capcom developed.
La mejor es la de Dreamcast. Mejor iluminación. Mejor contraste mejores resolución mejor gráficos. Mejores detalles . Fue una consola adelantada a su tiempo. Mejores
SEGA
I like this game for the ps2 even tho u play with the direction buttons, wouldve been better with the thumbsticks but u cant have everything lol
It didn't matter. %90 of people bought PS2 version.
This game didn't gel with me. Alone in the Dark is the franchise that Resident Evil copied all of it's homework from, but here you have a new Alone in the Dark game feeling like the cheap copy. The leader becomes the follower.
Great game
How I love Dreamcast ❤
The lighting is darker on the Dreamcast which helps hide some texture imperfections that are more noticable on PS2.
The textures have the same quality on both versions.
The rain droplets are worse on PS2.
Load times are slightly worse on PS2.
The mouths don't move on Dreamcast.
The Dreamcast has too much bloom on cutscenes to hide the jaggies which makes it look blurrier.
No clear winner here. Both have minor flaws. I guess it depends which lighting effects you prefer.
is it weird the ps1 version looks more crisp?
more detail on the back of the jacket on ps2
SEGA Dreamcast sempre a frente do seu tempo 💪🏼
Ps2 was always blurry
Wait...this games is dont only from PS1?
It's on DC - PS1 - PS2 and PC
@@nordwinds2561PS2 and PC are the worst versions because of Spiral House.

Incredible how bad the rain effect looks on ps2
