New 2 hour long video (+5000000 morale) Thanks for that, Boss! So glad to have found this channel in March 2020 because it's given us all so much to digest instead of just chewing on the bones of _MGS2_ commentary videos saying the same things as each other. Can't wait to watch this
This work has me playing the whole series, i actually bought a ps3 so i could play 4 😶 I was 18 when Mgs1 dropped on Ps1, we knew then how special it was. Your essay's will be appreciated for many years to come as we develop our understanding of the significance of the series in its historical and social context. Thank you for continuing to unpack the complexity of its many layers and connections. Kojima studies is legitimised further with every essay you produce Boss
I was 10 bud. Same though. One game made me play every single game since and before. 18 years old snake eater, we can only hope on its 20 yr bday we’ll get something remastered cause we don’t want remake’s like twin snakes. Still all the game’s are masterpieces
and may please, i refer you to great and strong and unique creating of every specific Character personality in the game, which is rare in those time games and even now it somehow lost in graphics and gameplays and customizing games with money by silly things, not that they're not important , but furthermore creating unique bosses and characters in the story of the game is in advance for binding players to the games line of story and enjoying a masterpiece even non story teling games have had lost it in their games, though Detroit Become Human was one rare game yo can find these days which have this Essential element.
The first mgs I played was msg 3 due to my dad being a mgs fanatic and thank u god he was he showed me the story and what games to play and in what order to help me understand the story clearer thank u dad I love u xx
Mine was MGS2 the day it came out!!! My dad and I played it together. We also played MGS1 afterward (kinda backwards, i know) hahaha great memories! RIP to my dad! He was one of a kind.
1:08:27 I find it interesting how the MGS2 Re-release includes a map layout of Arsenal Gear, but you only get a picture instead in the main story. Kind of a neat little touch.
Yeeeasaah! I played through MGS2 and MGS3 last year as a result of finding your channel, and man it's really spoken to me in a way that few games, let alone media, rarely do. So I'm grateful for that! Also psyched for new vid! Thanks for the great content.
I usually don't wanna watch your videos when you release them I wanna spare them to watch them on my TV in the Primetime to give it the full Attention it deserves.
I'm in the middle of writing a series with MGS influences and, like most writers, I run out of steam now and then, but your videos always kick my brain into overdrive.
I know I've said this before, but I love this content. The level of quality is so astounding. You can tell how inspired by Kojima he is because he also brings that cinematic gravitas to these videos. The editing, pacing, structure, and aesthetic of these videos is amazing.
Mgs3 was so influential in who I became as a human being, especially as a teenager. My mom died not long after I started playing Mgs3, so it has a huge place in my heart. It also started my camo collection... let's not discuss that though Thanks so much for making videos.
"Neat, a new Futurasound video." *Click* *clip of Godzilla: Final Wars* Holy crap, I won a contest to go to that movie's world premeire. November 29, 2004, Grauman's Chinese Theatre. I can't possibly convey to anyone I know how much your videos (and mgs in general as a result) mean to me Jorin. I hope one day to see a close friend experience and appreciate for themselves what your videos have done for me.
Clicked on this without realizing it's a Jorin Lee futuresound production video. Was happy to hear your name in the opening. Oh boy oh boy 2 hour mgs3 video!
I find it fitting that this game in this video are taking a distinctly anti-militaristic point of view, and yet in true late capitalism fashion I'm getting advertisements for joining one of the various US military branches.
Would love to see an in-depth analysis like this for the kojima productions stand-alone stuff, like Boktai, Ghost Babel and Acid. Alot of good stuff that usually gets to the side for not being the main big thing.
dismissing them as "not kojima = not that good" is what i believe is a misconception many people do. Both gameplay and story are devirative of Kojima's style, as even pointed in this video, made by the "kojima clones". I even dare to say that not being connected to the main games is the big strength of the side stuff.
Great content my dude. You should do at least a mini analysis on MGS Portable Ops, Kojima was involved and it gets referenced later on. Keep up the good work, Boss!
MGS3 is Kojima's Magnum Opus. The Boss is the single greatest character in the series. Her hope for a better, united world is something that we can all carry with us, like the pettle of the lillie that rests in Snake's palm. "The survivor will carry on the fight, it is our destiny."
Lol. Erm...No. MGS3 had some of the least developed characters in the entire series. The Boss was very underdeveloped. We get a 15 minute monologue about her background as an exposition dump just before the boss fight. Don’t get me wrong. MGS3 is a fantastic game and I love it. But let’s get real - the characters (including Cobra Unit) were very underdeveloped and honestly quite underwhelming and the amongst the less memorable ones in the series. MGS1 and MGSS2 had better storylines, more colourful characters who were more involved with the story and infinitely better voice acting. The Boss was an ok character but not great. She needed to be fleshed out more. Same goes for almost everyone in MGS3 (except Young Ocelot - he was the only fully developed character in the whole game.)
@@mistermohamed2574 Agree almost 100 percent. I love The Boss, and, I think her story is great. She sadly is just overhyped by the fanbase. The Cobra Unit is bullshit though lol, I love how people shit on Dead Cell, and B and B Corps for being "not as developed as Foxhound" but jerk off over The Cobras who literally, if you don't count gameplay, have less than 50 lines each, easily, in the entire game.
@@mistermohamed2574 Exactly. I thought I was the only one who felt that the Cobra unit consisted of generic characters. Honestly, MGS3 felt rushed in some areas.
Look, I really appreciate these videos. Playing these games as a kid and not truly understanding the underlying messages, you tie everything together incredibly and I appreciate it 👍
Jorin has definitely moved up from his Metal Gear Master's Degree. Doctor Lee, another video too good for TH-cam... On this medium, you are on the level of the many great artists you discuss, or to say simply: "You're pretty good".
Learning that the director of one of my favorite Godzilla films worked on Twin Snakes. It makes so much sense now. I'll have to play twin snakes after I play metal gear solid.
On top of revisiting the development history of the MGS saga, this Intruder series is also an in-depth look at the past gaming eras, an examination of bygone rivalries, passing trends, historical milestones, and cherished memories, to sum it up the ever-changing 'times' of this medium. It's a nostalgic and instructive trip to the past I watch in daily bite-sized bursts, like a TV program, effectively replacing - and surpassing - the video game channel I used to watch as a teenager. Can't wait for the MGS 4 episode.
idea- instead of trying to clone kojima directly, create 2 sons of his using his dominant & recessive genes, respectively & pit them against each other
Warship Gunner was actually one of my favorite PS2 games, fairly slow sim-like gameplay with an extremely long and winding story that starts off historical and realistic and ends up futuristic and completely off the rails, seems to be a common trope in Japanese military games.
Amazing. You could lecture interactive art history at a university. For me, Mgs3 truly is one of the best games ever made. Therefore I really like the first part of the documentation. The in depth interpretation what lead to the creation of mgs3 both story telling, the zeitgeist of 2004 and even the trends in gaming industry over in Japan. Thank you for that. I also now understand why peace walker has been created. -also an awesome game with the parallels to kojima managing his production team. Hope the next Kojima game surfaces. I hope you have more on that in the future. :) Thank you!
Amazing work yet again. I absolutely love how so much of MGS is itself a commentary on it's reception and critique. Happy to hear you pointing out all of that influence and how it fits into the overall ethos of the franchise.
I've gotten to the point that I don't ever enjoy video games anymore, Ive watched thousands of hours of lore videos about MGS series and Souls series and can recite most of it to a complete stranger without any shame. But when it comes to actually playing the games itself, I get no joy anymore. Watching lore videos has absolutely ruined my hunger for actually playing video games. Anybody else like me?
I haven't been enjoying games either but I don't think watching lore videos ruined it for me. If anything, I just got tired of playing the games and I can still enjoy it and get more out of it by watching two hour long lore videos.
My desire to play has definitely diminished and I do watch a lot of video game YT but I also suspect it's just an age thing. Plus most new games just dont grab me 🤷🏻♂️. I just played Prey(2017) and that did really grab me but it's one of the last rare immersive sims out there. Games becoming mainstream has it's upsides but it also has its downsides, every game needing to be accessible to as many players as possible or it's considered a flop is one.
