Whitney rocked my world, but Donna rocked my universe. I love the way she walks towards the spot with that smile on her face. So humble and secure of herself to deliver this best ever rendition a capella. When the jets fly above, you still hear her voice's resonance. This is God's power flowing through her with a single instrument: her pure voice. Thank you Donna. I miss you so much!
No particular story behind this performance, other than to illustrate the amazing power and range of Donna Summer’s voice as she sang the National Anthem live, a capella, not miming to a pre-recorded track, just the way Nature and Francis Scott Key intended.
If she had sung it at the Superbowl than she would have to lip sync to her back track because it's a requirement. There's only certain people who can sing there version in 1 take
Sorry, Whitney. No pre-recorded orchestra assisted backtrack, no NFL Productions production team, no flag waving wartime atmosphere. Just a lone woman singer with a microphone and more talent than should be legal giving the single best, most inspiring, and beautiful rendition of our National Anthem ever delivered. All the rest of you.....sit down. The cup has been retired. Hail to the Queen.
This shouldn't be compared to Houston's version. Summer sang it in the original 3/4 time signature without any accompaniment. Houston's version was arranged by jazz musician, composer, arranger, and classical double bassist John Clayton who changed the time signature to 4/4 and reharmonized the musical accompaniment.
@@RaymondHng I am comparing this to ANYONE'S version. Pop, soul, jazz, mime, chorus, individual, traditional, improvisational, faster, slower , or however many other variables one would like to apply. The only other versions that come close to being this impressive are Chris Botti's MNF performance at Giant's Stadium ( for sheer beauty) and Jose Feliciano's 1968 World Series performance at Tiger Stadium ( for being so groundbreaking).
@@RaymondHngyeah bc many ppl like to say Whitney was the voice when Donna actually was Whitney just had a lot of marketing and was more relevant in more recent time then Donna but Donna’s voice was always more versatile, powerful, and well taken care of than Whitney’s
People don't know the difference between the Superbowl Halftime and Baseball games. Anyone who sings the national anthem at the Superbowl has to sing along to back track due to technical televise reason and air forces flying above you and its a requirement only lady Gaga performed hers live. There are certain singers who can sing the national anthem in 1 take and sound good like Whitney. She sung the national anthem live plenty of times and acapella better than the Superbowl. without music and bands her version sound better and clearer.

@@eboneyfleming6404 I like both versions but I see a big difference between "performing" and "feeling". Whitney's vocal acrobatics are unparalleled, period. But they are exactly that: acrobatics. This is a country's National Anthem, it's not about flaunting your incredible vocal abilities, it's about respect for what an anthem means. Donna's version understands that. Whitney's does not. Donna is honouring a country, Whitney is showing off her incredible vocal technique using a country's National Anthem as a pretext and reducing it to a pop hit.
Extremely well-trained Singer. Breathtaking Performance from one of the all time great singers.
This is just pure voice, ability and talent. Second to none.
Wow one of my favorites
Power house than all the other singers
Miss u Donna Summer Forever
Diva OWNED IT! Like it was written just for her to sing!!

Only Donna Summer could do it like this.

@@781Florist You singled Whitney out by mentioning her name only in your first sentence.

she dont need any theatrics..she just straight out sang with that powerful voice haha
