What soc filmed in the 90s changed skateboarding forever, he deserves a spot in the hall of fame for all his work. Thanks for doing this boys, and if you see this, thank you Socrates.
He'll get it. I hope they do categories where filmer & photog are included. They will recognize. I've only seen acceptance speeches so I'm not really sure but Mofo was inducted. Why not Soc?
As a young skater living in London I always wondered who this mystery Socretes dude was for years. Glad to finally hear his story. He was so instrumental in the 90’s evolution of skate videos. Man I’m waiting for a Rocco episode now. That would be real epic! Please make it happen.
That was amazing! I always saw Socrates name at the end of these vids back in the day and just knew he was someone that got to be around and witness amazing history happen. Nine club please do more of this era of interviews including: Guy Mariano Shiloh Greathouse Chico Brenes Matt Shnurr Henry Sanchez Daewon etc etc etc I’m 43 and STILL skate to the memory of all the vids that Soc filmed. So good.
Socrates is such a legend behind the lens! This was a great interview. the dudes behind the scenes have such great stories. Thank you for your involvement in Lovechild! I was raised on that shit! Big ups to the Nine for giving us all the BTS goodness! #switchflipmanny4life
Wow, as regular listener, listening to this podcast and then you hear your name mentioned in the stories!! 🤣. -I have so many stories of that period of time filming for Love Child!! Also, back then I filmed on ROLLERSKATES for perfect control when filming lines or tricks. Those skaters lost their mind when I first put them on to film!! 🤣🤣🤣
48:00, i think my dad bought some of those blank boards...i remember back in that time era, he came home with boxes of blank boards, lots of world boards that were used, but good amount of blanks, remembering now, i know they had to come from world directly from a pro, no way he would stumble upon so many decks back in that time that wasn't from someone working there.
So glad to get a Soc ep, he's an OG! His name has been dropped in so many ep's & now we get to here the stories from the legend himself, so sick! As always thanks fellas, you're always killing it. #nineclublife
Great episode! Love hearing the random off topic stories like delivering paper. The Nine Club isn't all about skateboarding, it's about getting to know the person behind the skateboarding, in my opinion.
Agreed. It seems like a lot of the guests feel bad about getting "off topic", but the real life stories outside of skateboarding are some of the best parts.
Great episode. The film/video/photo guys always have dope behind-the-scenes stories from the skate industry. Each little nugget of Rodney info. is precious.
So sick to see Soc get emotional when he was talking about his career & being able to do what you loved for a living. A majority of people don't get that opportunity or don't take the opportunity. So it's nice to hear that he really knows how lucky he is do have been able to have had the career he's had & not take it granted!
Only just started this but I really hope he talks about hyper extending his elbow on that back 5-0 in big brother number two. That shit made my stomach turn when I was younger.
I grew up skating in the early 90's and always read the name "Socrates" in all of the videos (and mags) and never knew who he really was or what he actually looked like. I finally know, and his story was fucking incredible. Like Crob, the videos he was involved in helped shape me and my skateboarding, and my youth. I love this guy so much! Such a humble, nice guy. When he talked about feeling blessed to have lived his dream for the first 25 years of his life and how he fell into it and didn't even as for it, brought years to my eyes, no joke. I'm 40 and I'm still pondering what I've been put on this earth to do so that little tidbit really got to me.
I got a pair of DC graphics at Ross for 7 bucks. All black. Love to skate in em. Probably not a real skate shoe but they have awesome board feel. The cashier thought I switched the tag on em. She prob bought the same shoes for her grandson years ago & paid full price. Too funny. She looked at me like I was a criminal.
2:31:30 That mix the blind section in Rodney Vs Daewon Rd 2 was absolutely AMAZING. My 12 year old mind was completely blown watching that whole edit, imagining how cool it would be to be filming ledge lines all smooth with an amazing instrumental mix in the background.
Soc talking about being able to live his dreams and not be an old dude, wasting away, wondering "who am I? what the fuck happened?"... that shit really got me. What a great dude.
I've seen this dude skating with Daewon in Gardena, didn't know who he was then, but is cool to make the connection now. Daewon was skating with all the OG dudes, it got me really hyped, seeing all these 40 somethings skating and having fun like they did when they were teens. Gotta love skateboarding
Such a great informative episode, learnt a lot! Skate history lesson right here. (Also..) Mark Eaton is a legend in the BMX world, part of the Plywood Hoods, who did videos and invented a lot of tricks.
Nerding pretty hard on this ep-thanks Nine Club. In the vein of filmers/photographers, how about Mike Blabac? I'm sure he has plenty of Kalis/Stevie/Love Park stories
If I had a nickle for every time I saw his name at the bottom of a photo in a mag during my day then,..then,..well I would have enough to BUY EVERYONE A BEER!!!! Again, thank you all @The9 for everything you do.
I was out there in 96 to go to ASR in SD, my friend and I took a bus out to a shop in Hermosa Beach and ended up finding the Imperial Double set. It had 2x4's glued to the ground as skate stoppers, but it was amazing to see how long it was in person. Is that spot gone now? Couldn't find it on google streetview.
Really interesting. Some more knowledge for skate bank. Love that this is another part of skating and such a big part of it brought together by a good dude.
What soc filmed in the 90s changed skateboarding forever, he deserves a spot in the hall of fame for all his work. Thanks for doing this boys, and if you see this, thank you Socrates.
Absolutely.
Definitely.
Hands down
He'll get it. I hope they do categories where filmer & photog are included. They will recognize. I've only seen acceptance speeches so I'm not really sure but Mofo was inducted. Why not Soc?
Totally agree. My life has been shaped by his work and his joy of stoked can’t be taken for granted.thanks soc
I never get tired of my dads stories, I’m glad now the world gets to hear how amazing he is, love you dad
He’s the best!!! 🙌
Absolute legend.
Ur dad is the mannnn!
ohhhhh epic!!!!! Do you skate gio?
@@thenineclub you're all the best!!!!
As a young skater living in London I always wondered who this mystery Socretes dude was for years. Glad to finally hear his story. He was so instrumental in the 90’s evolution of skate videos.
Man I’m waiting for a Rocco episode now. That would be real epic! Please make it happen.
I’ve heard so many guests drop Soc’s name, stoked to finally see him on!
Damn. Crazy that the guests who the public knows the least about tend to have the dopest stories. Really great episode. Soc is the MAN
That's true about a lot in life.
That was amazing! I always saw Socrates name at the end of these vids back in the day and just knew he was someone that got to be around and witness amazing history happen. Nine club please do more of this era of interviews including:
Guy Mariano
Shiloh Greathouse
Chico Brenes
Matt Shnurr
Henry Sanchez
Daewon etc etc etc
I’m 43 and STILL skate to the memory of all the vids that Soc filmed. So good.
Socrates filmed prob 70% of my fav skate vids.. another heavy hitter fellas
20 Shot and Trilogy are legendary!!!
Socrates is such a legend behind the lens! This was a great interview. the dudes behind the scenes have such great stories. Thank you for your involvement in Lovechild! I was raised on that shit! Big ups to the Nine for giving us all the BTS goodness! #switchflipmanny4life
“Socrates filmosiphies and hi-8pothesies can’t define how he be dropping this legendary skate filmography” -Inspectah Skate Deck
ha Wu-Tang!
This show makes my Mondays! I finish work go skating with my 40+ crew come home and settle down to the nine club. Perfect start to the week!
That's damn awesome brethren, you have such a huge crew, what city do you live in?
Do you mean 40 people, or 40+ yrs old?
Wow, as regular listener, listening to this podcast and then you hear your name mentioned in the stories!! 🤣. -I have so many stories of that period of time filming for Love Child!! Also, back then I filmed on ROLLERSKATES for perfect control when filming lines or tricks. Those skaters lost their mind when I first put them on to film!! 🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely hilarious, loved hearing those stories from his perspective.
This guy has filmed some of the most gnarliest shit in skateboarding, in the best era. Its awesome you guys finally got him on
48:00, i think my dad bought some of those blank boards...i remember back in that time era, he came home with boxes of blank boards, lots of world boards that were used, but good amount of blanks, remembering now, i know they had to come from world directly from a pro, no way he would stumble upon so many decks back in that time that wasn't from someone working there.
Rocco on the Nine Club would be insane. Hope he does it someday
That would be insane! The Man Who Souled the World is one of the best skateboarding documentaries ever made.
@@mystymysty3667 Such an underrated documentary.
This is gonna be great.
Thanks nine club for the hard work and great content
Roger is so full of admiration. It's amazing and really wholesome :)
He should never have to work a 9-5 , he should be on a skateboard pension
straight up, maybe he will get a call soon after the episode
So glad to get a Soc ep, he's an OG! His name has been dropped in so many ep's & now we get to here the stories from the legend himself, so sick! As always thanks fellas, you're always killing it. #nineclublife
Finally see how this dude looks , great interview so far.
Awesome to finally put a face to the name, epic stories; phenomenal episode!
This episode was savage. So much to say from the other side of the lens.
wow! you know an episode is good, when i finish the podcast and go straight to the youtube and watch the episode also! one of the best!
My first early access to content with my membership and what luck for it to be Socrates so sick!!
This episode was terrific.
Great episode. The film/video/photo guys always have dope behind-the-scenes stories from the skate industry.
Each little nugget of Rodney info. is precious.
We need Kareem campbell
So entertaining. Man that was a great episode.
So sick to see Soc get emotional when he was talking about his career & being able to do what you loved for a living. A majority of people don't get that opportunity or don't take the opportunity. So it's nice to hear that he really knows how lucky he is do have been able to have had the career he's had & not take it granted!
Every time I watch Trilogy Lavar McBride's part always makes my day. Jimmy Cliff and Lavar mend together so well thanks Soc!
That's like taken directly from my childhood memories... Respect to Soc!
STACY PERALTA, PLEASE!
Only just started this but I really hope he talks about hyper extending his elbow on that back 5-0 in big brother number two. That shit made my stomach turn when I was younger.
*Max Schaaf* -- Another great one guys thanks!
we need the og henry👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
4 weeks. 20 newspapers. That’s $2. PLUS TIP 😂😂😂😂Crob with the Better Off Dead reference lol
I would donate 2 dollars at a time in the super chat .. and just put TWO DOLLARRRSSS
Man. The memories. I remember Socrates from the Lipslide Skateshop and Transitions in East LA days. So awesome on what he's achieved.
Very soft spoken like cab...
massively underrated episode. great stories of shiloh, daewon, rodney and more
Socrates looks like a latin John Belushi.
Great call. I would have never thought of that. Spot on.
Great episode. I love the ones with people like Tony and Muska, but the ones with people who were more behind the scenes are every bit as good
Amazing episode, one of my favorites for sure! get Jacob Rosenberg next!
Love child changed my life
Fantastic episode boys! One thing though. Please stabilize Kelly’s table. I can’t take my eyes off that shaky glass of milk.🤓👍🏼
Seriously one of the best nine clubs.

I saw some Nine Club ES shoes on Clearance and swooped them up!!! Haha.
So good ya gotta watch it twice.
I've watched this one 4 times. I've watched the Brian Wenning ep over 10 times. Love this show.
Amazing interview.. thank you Socrates and 9 Club for all youve done! Much respect from Alaska, cheers.
I'm always envious of Chris' ability to smoothly progress through the guest's timeline and stretch it out over the course of a few hours
Legendary interview! also Roger saying to rob the kid with the back pack! made me laugh out loud..hahaha
The episodes with the filmers are the best....
🧦 the legend
Dude Soc loves skateboarding so much and just the way he carries himself is so genuine and real. Socs is the best dude
Pos the Re edit of the Trilogy thanks. I would love to see the original cut.
Me too!
good job guys. I love episodes like this one cause anything skate related is awesome.
Thanks again! I got the $2.00 remark from Better Off Dead
You guys keep upping the game, gaining more importance and legitimacy in and for skateboarding. Thanks for all you do Nine club!!!
Soc talking about being able to live his dreams and not be an old dude, wasting away, wondering "who am I? what the fuck happened?"... that shit really got me. What a great dude.
Soc is the Skate Culture! I'd love a skateboard videography podcast with him. History, Gear, behind the scenes, pro tips and guest videographers.
This.....is a history lesson
Sounds like hes sitting on some good footage that people would be interested to see.
Bill & Ted love you. These are awesome stories. Thhhhhhaaaaannnnkkkk you all.

There are so many rad people in this industry.

Big Rog looks like hes about to head to a breakdancing battle after the show.
Leigh Peterson changed his name to Leigh Ledare and is a well known artist/photographer.

Such a great informative episode, learnt a lot! Skate history lesson right here. (Also..) Mark Eaton is a legend in the BMX world, part of the Plywood Hoods, who did videos and invented a lot of tricks.
