What an awesome video, adding Moremi to my list of places to visit now. We doing our first trip to Namibia next year and will definetly look at Botswana for 2019. Great work and good use of GoPro, Drone and DSLR :)
Nice video Frank. daai watercrossing laat my sommer nip. Enigste fout wat jy gemaak het is om dit op die 4x4 forum te post. Daai mense hou van moan. Hulle gan jou grief gee oor die drone. eks sommer nou weer lus om te gaan.
Amazing one!! Were you with a large group of friends or in some organized expedition? I'm just back from South Africa and Lesotho 25 days and now planning a longer adventure..
Thank you Elio. This trip was with a group of friends. If you need any help on planning your next African Adventure, Im happy to give advice where I can.
I would like to go for a few (1-6) months solo, and am now looking specifically for groups that I could join, made up mostly of solos and couples, travelling together. I've never driven a 4x4 for example. I could join a tour with the big providers, but am looking for something between solo travelling (which would be a bit too far out of my comfort zone) and large organized trips... any ideas? :)
Hey Elio. There is guys in SA and Namibia who does trips like these. Most of the trips are between 10 to 20 days and are scheduled for departure at the beginning of the best times to visit the destinations. You would however need to familiarise your self with the basics of off-road driving. You can do that at home, you don't have to do it here.
Its a Canon Power shot Bridge Camara Grant, nothing fancy at all but let me tell you, it works like a dream. It has a great zoom on it, it takes fantastic pictures and the videos are very decent.
Frank Louw thanks!...I tested the Cannon G3X last week and ended up switching to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ2500, not much in it, but the following swung me to the LUMIX: 1. Has an eyepiece not just live view screen; 2. Shoots 4K; 3. Zoom wasn’t as long as the Cannon 24-480mm on LUMIX vs 24-600mm on Cannon, but because of the 4K the extended zoom (up to 1,400mm) doesn’t seem to lose as much image quality...must say, I find the Cannon a bit more user friendly, but we’ll see on next trip to Kgalagadi and Caprivi starting next week!...thanks again
Hi Frank, I bought a Drone for my son (10 years young) this Christmas (Parrot Bebop2 power) and he can't wait to go with our Unimog in SA for a long trip to Botswana and Zambia. I'm married to a girl from the OFreestate ;-) miskien ontmoet ons mekaar nog erens
Hey Frank Amazing trip. Did you have a guide for your group? How long was the whole adventure? Whats the best way to organise? Were the car reliable? Thanks and kind regards from Switzerland Peter
Thank you Peter. This trip was with a group of friends. We did not have a guide, you just need to be super organised and do a lot of reading and planning in advance. This trip was a 16 day trip. If you consider a trip like this and will be renting, good cars to rent would be Land Cruiser 76, Toyota Hi-Lux and Toyota Fortuner. They did all good.
Dear Frank Thank you for your answer. Did you have your own car or rental? If rental, where? And are the cars in a good condition? Can I find necessary maps for planing in Switzerland? Have a nice day Peter
We used our own cars Peter, but there are a lot of rental options in South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. The best thing to to would be to figure out how much time you have, a route and where you would like to start. Then look in to renting a 4x4. A company out of South Africa that I have used and was good was www.bushlore.com/ Also have a look at Avis safari rental www.avis.co.za/safari-rental Their trucks looks very impressive and comfortable. The best maps to use by far is Tracks4africa www.tracks4africa.co.za You should also look at Botswana Foot prints to help you book campsites and plan. Its totally possible to plan a trip from Switzerland, you should do it. I hope this helps.
Thanks for your complete answer. The flight to Botswana is booked, the rest I will share between an organisation and planing myself:-)) The information helped a lot and will be useful, when we plan other trips in the future. Thank you very much, I continue to enjoy your videos.
Hey Grant. That was viewing platform at Nata Bird Sanctuary, Im not sure if you could actually camp there. We just had breakfast there , did not spend the night. They have campsites close to the gate.
Frank Louw sjoe!...didn’t recognise it, was there in Nov’15 and there was no water at all - best thing about the bush is how every trip is so different
Baie dankie Johan. Dit was ons eerste keer baie beslis nie die laaste keer nie. Ek gebruik n DJI Phantom 4, maar het n DJI Mavic ook. Ek sal beslis die Mavic aanbeveel as n eerste drone. Hy is goedkoper en beter in baie opsigte.
Dankie vir die advies. Ek is reeds op die uitkyk vir so "speelding" maar moet nog bietjie meer info by manne soos jy kry. My drone wat ek gebruik is bietjie groot en raas baie..!! Gaan kyk maar self na my videos. Groete Johan
Not yet, they are still working on laws to regulate its use, but they disallow its use in parks, not that strict tho, to be save u can just apply for flying permit that normally takes less than a month...
The most important and difficult part is booking your campsites. Start planning your trip well in advance, at least a year. Camp sites bookings can be a lot easier if you plan your trip out side of South African School holiday season. A great company to use to help you make bookings for campsites is www.botswanafootprints.com/ I have no ties with them, but they have beet awesome in the past.
awesome place, cool video, phenomenal vehicles. fabulous!
We have been there, saw it all a few years ago. I would like to be there again. It was our best holiday ever. Wonderful!!!!
What an awesome video, adding Moremi to my list of places to visit now. We doing our first trip to Namibia next year and will definetly look at Botswana for 2019. Great work and good use of GoPro, Drone and DSLR :)

Frank Louw what I meant with my reply is that I’m having serious second thoughts when I see what you’ve done with the Canon!...brilliant quality👍🏻
Hi Frank, love your video. May I share it with my friends on facebook?
Yes, you are welcome and thanks for the compliment on the video.

very nice - is that much water typical for that area?
Hey Simon. I don't think so, but cant really tell for sure. It was our first time.
Great video Frank! Waar het jy die nice agtergrondmusiek gekry? Ek sukkel om goeie musiek vir ons trip video te kry.
Ek soek sommer op TH-cam rond vir musiek Johann. Sleutel soek woorde soos Cinematic, epic, inspirational + Music help.
Sorry - last question...at 0.55sec in the video there’s a shot of your camp on an island next to a tree platform, which campsite is this?
Hey Grant. That was viewing platform at Nata Bird Sanctuary, Im not sure if you could actually camp there. We just had breakfast there , did not spend the night. They have campsites close to the gate.

Dis 'n Uitstekende video!!! Dit bring soveel goeie memories terug. Ons het al paar keer hierdie roete gedoen. Wat se drone gebruik jy?

Not yet, they are still working on laws to regulate its use, but they disallow its use in parks, not that strict tho, to be save u can just apply for flying permit that normally takes less than a month...
I'm not sure what the actual stance is on drones in Bots.
I hope to do this solo, any tips
