Thank you _so much_ for noticing and appreciating Cesar's incredible performance here. Too many reactors ignore him completely because they had no interest in anything except Geoff's bass (and don't get me wrong, Geoff is as exceptional in this song as he always is. He's a phenomenon! But there are four other top-notch vocalists singing their hearts out here too, and I always feel so let down when they don't get the share of the attention and praise that they deserve.)

That annoys me so much, I get the Geoff is great and Layne is great but there are other people there too! My favorite is Cesar, he just knows how to make you feel the song instead of just hearing it.

Cesar undoubtedly has the perfect gentle tenor to start this song. His eyes are so emotive! I think Eli definitely deserves multiple kudos for this arrangement.

I know that Geoff and Layne do most of the arrangements, and I don't complain, because they're always at least phenomenal. (You know you're a great arranger when "phenomenal" is your ordinary, everyday level!) But I want to hear more Eli arrangements. This song has been covered so often that I almost passed it by--afraid of being disappointed. I'm not disappointed. Pathos, delicate beauty, powerful passion, unspeakable pain--it's all here. Also some quirky creativity--why does no one talk about the "body and soul" play at 4:10, and "weird . . . oh what the hell" at 4:43? I wish I could have heard Eli telling the band about those bits.

This is the definitive version of Creep. I love the setup with the mirror with each person seeing himself and finding himself wanting. I find hope in their version that they may change, they don't want to be the creep. The arrangement that Eli did is stunning, not rushed, with time to hear it all. Cesar could not have been better - he is so damn good with handling the emotional content. Anthony is powerful with the soaring notes. Geoff and Layne round it out with the bass and percussion so that you aren't even aware that you are hearing an a capella song. They are special - so very special.

Voiceplay is just the best. They always pay homage to the original, but never do a cookie cutter version or (in my opinion) mess it up.
Eli Jacobson has been doing their lights and effects for years, but this is only the second arrangement. I hope we don't have to wait three years for another one from him. This was so evocative and emotional. Loved it.
    Great reaction, DJ!!

A rare gift of arrangement from Eli. He did the arrangement for Eleanor Rigby as well. Though it's an older video it needs to be listened to much more than has been the case. Would love to hear your thoughts of that one.

To add to what @carinarodebak posted, this is only the third song that Eli has arranged. Now add to that Eli also designed and set up the lighting for this video.

Thank you for pointing out that a cover is a version of a song, not the original! It is so frustrating to hear someone say “no no no that’s wrong! “
Someone reacted to their cover of Oogie Boogie and complained because there was more than one person singing and “everyone knows” that Oogie was alone in that scene. 🤯
This is one of the few versions that I actually enjoy, and it’s the first one that actually resonated with me. Too many others did seem to rush through the introspective beginning like they wanted to get to drama of that frustration and anger .
What makes this a brilliant song, at least in my personal opinion, is that it taps into the despair and longing of self-doubt. I still tear up at least a little every time Cesar’s voice breaks on the word “cry”.
This is going to be my go-to when I need a good cathartic cry. It would not take much to tip me over the edge into full blown ugly sobbing.
Thankfully, VoicePlay knows that we need a little emotional break after something like this and will be releasing a hilarious cover of What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor most likely on Friday. It features Jose Rosario Jr who was also with them when they were pirates in Hoist the Colours. The second guest artist, who spends most of his time passed out, is Geoff’s and Layne’s friend from back when they were 4:2:Five. He is a very welcome bit of comic relief. Be sure to watch all the way through to the end because if they do what they did for the patrons there is an epilogue.😂

Voiceplay is really good at bringing out the emotional impact of a song.
Looking in the mirror makes it more introspective and personal.
You get the impression of someone trying to figure why they are so cruelly rejected by someone they really liked.

As a Cesar (did you notice at the end he had tears in his eyes?) fan, I love to see someone who appreciates him, and Voiceplay, and doesn't just stare expressionless at the video. So I subscribed.

VoicePlay never fails to do the opposite of ruin it. So many are improved far over the originals.

One of the things I admire about VoicePlay and their arrangements is that when they cover a song, you can always tell that they have really listened to the song and its lyrics, and thought about what message is being conveyed. It's something I've noticed that other groups (who shall remain unnamed) really miss badly at times, but I've yet to see VoicePlay fall into that trap. That understanding of the material they're performing allows them to do their own thing while still remaining respectful of the original.

    • @janetdw
      @janetdw ปีที่แล้ว +1

It is one of the things I like best about them. They have covered songs that I have from time to time sung along with at least part and I had absolutely no clue what this song is about. I may have known the words, but didn’t know the meaning.
Because I have trouble processing information auditorily, it also really helps me that they visualize the song as well.

Great reaction- thanks for your appreciation of the talent of all the members of Voice Play! This arrangement was different as Eli did it instead of Layne or Geoff. Eli has been doing the lighting and special effects for Voice Play for a while but this is only the second time he has done the arrangement (so this one is pretty much all Eli).

    Awesome reaction.
Kudos to Eli for his arrangement of this song and video. He did an absolutely amazing job. The last video he arranged was Eleanor Rigby.
Cesar definitely took the show. He's so talented at the emotions..
    By the way...
Geoff will be releasing his new video this Saturday August 5th.
After seeing this video you'll agree he should be in prison for everything he does in this. The man rented a freaking prison.
Voiceplay will be releasing their new video either this Friday or next Friday Aug 11th.
What's better than 4 drunken sailors? Why 6 drunken sailors of course.
Make sure you watch to the very end. There's a little surprise after a brief pause. This one so much fun.

I agree some songs are just ruined when from the beginning. The one example I hate listening to is I Dream a Dream from Lés Mis, too many people sing the song smiling, cheerful, upbeat when its a very sad song. I've heard this song sung in a similar way and it was disturbing.
I'm so glad that Voiceplay (Eli actually did the arrangement) did it the way they did. They had me in tears and wanting to give them hugs. I still want to give them hugs and tell them they are perfect just the way they are and they are not Creeps
    Thanks for the reaction 😊

So, I have a question, and maybe this is more a convo for Discord, idk. But, when Cesar sings, in both of his solos this interpretation is "reverent" it's "idolizing", right, and then when we get to Eli and Anthony there is a major emotional shift towards anxiety and intensity rise. I'm not sure if this is accomplished with tonality, percussion, enunciation, or possibly a key change, my ear isn't developed enough for it. Or is it all of those things and were they in the the original? It was something I wondered about since Eli's arrangement is SOO detailed. Also, as an aside, I found it very interesting that at the bridge the lyrics are repeated to say "I'm a creep, run run run" as well as "She's running out the door" I thought that was fun.

    • @patricktennant1585
      @patricktennant1585 ปีที่แล้ว +5

To me it seems like it is a combination of tonality and timing. Cesar's breathy tone and slow pacing almost seem evocative of crying. Anthony and Eli have a bit more sharpness to their voices. And their lines are delivered at a smoother tempo with less pausing. Almost like a hitching breath while trying to speak through tears that Cesar's lines bring to mind.

I love how it so often works out with VoicePlay's cover that I will now have 2 favorite versions of a song, VoicePlay's and the original. Often, the 2 versions just mean that I have a version to suit whatever mood I am in at the time. Sometimes I will have both versions on the same playlist. :)

This so phenomenally fantastic!! These guys can do anything and turn it into gold. Had to grab me a box of tissues for this one. Cesar killed it with his emotions and I feel he deserves a hug, Eli did amazing with this arrangement. I have no words. I mean They all put so many emotions into this song. I was crying through most of it, and I have cried everytime I watch it. It is already on my playlist! Great reaction!!

I agree with you. I am a die hard Pentatonix fan but when they covered Creep on The Masked singer, it just didn't hit on the raw emotion of the song what so ever. I am not a fan of Radiohead's original version but OMG, this gave me chills and did move me to tears. The first time I heard it was when Brian Austin Crum sang it on America's got Talent and it blew me away then but no where near the way Voiceplay did.

Listen, I love the original as a song. It's a good song. But I do *not* feel any empathy for the guy. It feels like a "poor me, I'm weird (read: literally creepy) and my girl is leaving me".
VoicePlay though? Had me in tears. This was straight from the depths of their souls. Eli did a masterful job with this arrangement.
