Alois is the dad that we all wish we had. Corny but caring. A bit clueless but always doing his best. Can get angry if he needs to be. He is also rocking that Gladiator outfit!
I really appreciate the love for Alois. He is one of my favorite 3H characters cause he is just fun! Sure I love when my joke characters have substance and growth cough cough Sylvain and Lorenz, but sometimes characters are genuinely perfect the way they are. He is definitely one of them.
One small thing I really thought you should have mentioned is how Alois is only recruitable in Chapters 11 and 12, and is the only member of the Church of Seiros to not leave in the Crimson Flower route despite being the Knight Captain . Byleth’s father, Jeralt, dies at the end of chapter 9. The man is willing to leave everything he build up to support his best friend’s only child.
Characters like him are some of my favorite people. Doing the right thing is often a tough decision even if you don’t have some tragic backstory. Like your past shouldn’t be the only reason you do good things and just because your life is put together doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still make those decisions. Also good fathers and husbands aren’t always depicted in video games so I gotta love that.
There is anotjer somewhat serious moment that is made a bit more light hearted that comes in the 3 hopes demo. After talking to the house leaders when you go to tell Alois that you are leaving he threatens shez but tries to keep it subtle and when shez calls him out on it he admits to it but says that he hates having to make threats like that but it is his obligation to do so in that situation as a knight of seiros. I honestly love this moment because it further shows that Alois can be tough and serious when needed but he is such a kindhearted and wholesome guy that he would rather not have to be unless it is absolutely necessary.

alois's simplicity also extends to his unit performance. he shows up late in part 1 as a pre-promoted warrior with solid base stats, good axe and brawling ranks, a great combat art in one-two punch, immediate brigand access for death blow, and a very short road to war master. he also shows up right before the timeskip, which, in certain routes, happens to be around the same time that some of your students peace out (e.g. edelgard in silver snow and dedue in azure moon), so there may be holes in your army for him to fill. he's nothing spectacular, and he certainly won't be replacing a well-trained student any time soon, but he can definitely be a solid filler unit if most of your team is underleveled, stat screwed, and/or dead.
Alois is the fucking man he deservs every happy ending he could have. I think the ghost stuff is a Little more serius considering is similar to the situation of Dimitri, not the deepest thing I agree but it showcast how he is so cool he feels bad about the enemy idk I think is a cool detail
In addition, while seeing someone play Three Houses as their first FE game, they said something when seeing that scene that stuck out to me: A lot of us in the FE community are kind of just…used to the idea of not a lot of characters having guilt over hurting others. We have characters ranging from royals and knights to farmers and random villagers, and how often is it brought up that they struggle with killing? We get folks playing coin games and talking about shopping in THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLEFIELD. To someone just diving into the franchise, they were struggling to see a ball of sunshine like Alois actually BEING a knight, because he always seemed so innocent and cheery. However, seeing that scene made them happy, since the game was aware enough to go “Just because Alois might have to do this for a job, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t struggle with it.” Also, I feel like it kind of makes sense for it to not be focused too much on, since…well, Alois is a grown adult. He’s likely struggled with these thoughts for a while now, and has grown to handle them…relatively well. It’s like how Raphael doesn’t get too many scenes where he over-focuses on the deaths of his parents. Even in his paralogue, where the death of his parents was one of the MAIN POINTS, Raphael himself is the one to say that it shouldn’t be dwelled on, as it was years ago. It’s not overly-focused on because, in a way, Raphael went through his character arc before the game began, and I’d say the same applies to Alois, even if he struggles with it at times still.
@@pokefan7446 the part about Raphael could also be explained on how genunly him and Alois are the few characters that got their shit together. They still have tragic/sad aspects but as you said instead of becoming Dimitri two by coping with them in an unhealthy way, they manage to make It, making them both probably the most emotionally mature characters in the game. Which is a pretty cool character trait in a game where almost nobody has It and something to be admired Tbh just because of that both of them deserve more recognition
I never used Alois very much during my first playthrough but I ended up picking him for my S-support. His puns are the kind I suffer from daily and I wouldn't have it any other way. :)
