As someone who doesn't give af about their hair and has had relaxed, natural and shaved it off many times. Everyone should just do what they want. Relax it if you want. Be natural if you want. You are me and I am you. I’ve been relaxed, natural, had locs, a pixie cut and all in between.. plus a variety of wigs in different colors, lengths, and textures. I love experimenting 😍
I have a serious knot problem and I’m watching this because I’m considering relaxing my hair. I’m honestly so over all the work natural hair comes with.
You know, it never fails to amaze me how the strongest opposition to hair relaxers are those who have the finest grade of hair. Mighty funny how the “Rock it natural girls” are often half white. God blessed you with fine wavy natural hair. Great for you. Leave people alone to do whatever gives them confidence.
They are probably the people who have other people manage their hair for them. They don’t understand everybody don’t have the time and the patience for managing natural hair. As much as i love my natural curly hair, the maintenance on it gets old.
It’s hilarious how many naturals are upset that people struggled more with natural hair than relaxed. Y’all have to realize that everyone’s hair is not the same even if you have the same curl type. Y’all are saying she’s being ridiculous that it took her hours to wash her hair, but it’s her experience and many others’. Who are y’all to shame her for preferring relaxed hair? Stop being miserable, start being considerate.
Most natural hair bullies keep their in protective styles 11 months out of a year. They are not dealing with their natural hair. I’m a professional braider. Trust me I know
Don't know why they are so pressed over what other people are doing. So many of them claim to be confident and empowered. Yet they spend so much time tearing other people down.
Natural hair takes a lot of work. That's why the majority of Black women have relaxers in their hair. We are the only race that constantly put chemicals in our hair to change our texture. No other race has this struggle
@@balaia29 untrue. there are other races that get relaxers to make their hair curly because their hair is too straight. Research “curly perms” and how many women of other races use them.
Interesting, I think some of your reasons are the exact same reasons I went natural. After being relaxed my whole life, I decided to go natural three years ago and it’s the best thing for me. The convenience of wash day. Now that I’m natural I can wash my hair whenever I feel like it during a shower. Whereas with relaxed hair I used to make sure I avoid any contact with water because straightening my hair again would be a hustle. I don’t know how people think relaxed hair is more versatile than natural hair. I have bleached, coloured my hair more than I did when I was relaxed. The difference this time is my hair is more resilient to the chemicals. My wash days are 45 minutes max (including deep conditioning). I have one or two spur of the moment washes during the week. These can be co-washes or simple shampooing. They don’t add much time to my shower time. The only time I really get knots and have to intensely detangle my hair is when I’ve been rocking the shrinkage look for a week. That’s not often plus using a detangling brush makes that achievable in my 45 minutes wash days. Let’s not act like we don’t need to detangle relaxed hair after every wash. I know I did because my hair would have knots after drying it with a towel. Having natural hair is not as much of an inconvenience as influencers make it out to be. And relaxers are not the answer to avoiding wash days.
I also think that natural hair is more versatile than relaxed but then it depends on everyone choice. Now i am relaxed but i feel like i should go back natural for some reasons. But, it is just hair, we can rock it i which ever way we want.
I stopped relaxing my hair back in 2008, because of the chemicals. If the chemicals ONLY touched the hair, I might still be relaxing, but because those poisons touch the scalp, I had to let it go. I still, predominately, wear my her straight tho. Modern flat irons work straitening magic, and my hair is longer than I was ever able to get it back when I relaxed.
I wouldn't dare touch a tub of relaxer again and it's been over ten years. Whenever I'm over my curls, I just flat iron it. When I miss them, I just do a wash and go...simple, no relaxer required.
@@Asia.Persuasia Agreed! Sometimes I feel tempted to get a relaxer but for the most part, I don't think I will ever do it again. it's just not for me anymore...
@@cfoster6804 there’s a reason why you’re supposed to grease your scalp, and not wash you hair for at least a week before your relaxer appointment. The natural oils of your scalp + the grease keeps the relaxer 100% off your scalp.
I agree with all of these! I recently texturised my 4c hair after being natural since 2014 and have found all of these to be true. Something funny is that I often hear people say a pro of being natural is that you no longer have to run from the rain or worry about your hair reverting, but I found it was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE when I was natural! The only way to keep my hair from knotting up horribly when I was natural was to keep it stretched with a twist out/braid out, but at even the slightest hint of humidity, my stretched style would be a bird's nest. I remember taking out a twist out on a particularly hot day, and by the time I'd taken out all my twists, my hair had already started reverting and knotting. Simply put, A MESS. Now with texturised hair, twist outs stay defined for way longer. I truly admire women who can make coily, dense, fine-stranded 4C hair work as a natural, but it just wasn't for me.
I'm newly a loose natural, after decades with easy to maintain dreadlocks that I tired of. I definitely note what you're saying. I live in a very humid place and can't blow out my hair for months at a time simply because it will revert into knots as soon as I walk out the door. LOL Even with twistouts, I have to leave them twisted to within a couple days of my intending to wash and start over. The humidity really means that the only thing that works all summer is braids. I'm looking forward to my first Fall/Winter and being able to blow dry regularly. I have a Revair, so that's just 10 mins. to dry and straighten, with no roughage/breakage, after washing and conditioning.
that's exactly my hair type. fine strands coiled and very dense. I had relaxer when I was kid but went natural at 12. I just hate how relaxer make women's hair thick hair look tnin and volumeless which is why ill never go back. I do see relaxer voluminous hair but not as often as relaxed flat straight hair
@@ummmalekxo6772yeah I noticed that. Its hard to come by relaxed hair that has volume and doesn't look limpy. I will never relax but she's entitled to do whatever. She did say she wants to be a messy bun girlie and we all know that doesn't apply to kinky hair
When I relaxed my hair 10 years ago, I regretted it tremendously. I’ve had sister locks to traditional locs then big chopped since then, and now my 4c natural hair is thriving with the right techniques. To each his own, just saying
Your relaxed hair looks beautiful & healthy. A lot of big natural hair influencers are relaxing their hair now which is completely fine. What's weird is how everyone whose relaxing now is making it seem like natural hair is the hardest to take care of & maintain...it's been drilled so much into our heads how our natural hair is so difficult to deal with, which I understand. We might possibly never unlearn the centuries of eurocentric influence on our hair which is sad.
Your hair looks healthy and beautiful. Keep taking care of it. I wore my hair relaxed for most of my adult life and now I just appreciate the way my hair grows out of my scalp. I am grateful to all the women who wore their own natural hair so that a space was created for me to be comfortable wearing my natural hair in any setting. Relaxed or natural is really a personal choice and I glad we are all free to make those choices.
I relaxed my hair yesterday!!!! It’s been 7 years since I’ve been relaxed and I absolutely love that I came back home!!!💜💜 I’ve always had long healthy relaxed hair. While being in cosmetology back in 2013/2014 I started going natural cause it’s healthy! And it was nice! My curl was beautiful but when it dried it wasn’t what I wanted 🤷🏽♀️ I got tired of the styles and not being able to feel how I wanted 😢 I find beauty in myself with long straight hair. And the puff was just a bit much for me managing it.
Girl ! I agree with you. When my hair was straight and relaxed nobody could tell me NOTHING. Being natural has been hair failure after hair failure and I am over it.
Why do naturals always feel the urge to always come on these types of relaxed hair videos with a superiority complex and state how wonderful it is to be natural? Like...ok...no one asked though. Adding NOTHING to the conversation. There are other channels for that. I'm natural with no desire to relax I just enjoy all types of hair videos. I don't understand why something as simple as how someone chooses to wear their hair always has to be an issue with us. I never see this phenomenon on the white girls' hair channels. Smh.
I'm sure the reason you don't see this one the "white girl channels" is because they don't have the option... They don't have natural vs relaxed hair...they just have hair.
I enjoy my hair more now. I cut see through ends and do not fuss about holding on to damaged end, now love wearing my U AND V part wigs without worry about heat damage. I stretch my relaxer for longer like 6 and 8 months. I am not afraid of frizz, and yes most importantly I have time for other things. My hair is thriving, fuller and growing
I love being natural and will never relax my hair again and not considering flat ironing. My natural hair takes about 1 1/2hr including drying. I also workout and I sweat in my scalp so it doesn’t suit my lifestyle.
Even though I'm natural for almost 5 years, I love watching videos about ladies who have gone back to relaxers! I have thick 4c hair, bra strap length, and a blow dryer is a necessity to avoid too many single stand knots and to speed it wash day. It takes me a little over 2 hours to wash, detangle, condition, blow dry, and twist, but I don't mind. I definitely understand the convenience factor of relaxed hair, but it's been so long that I wouldn't even know how to do my hair if I went back to relaxers lol. I wasn't that great at maintaining it back then!
Been wanting to relax since the year began. Relaxed my hair about a week ago and NO REGRETS!!! 9 years of not using product or heat?? I think I'd been committed long enough😂😂
Honestly. And life just becomes about the health of your hair. Sometimes you just wanna look fly and do half up half down without the humidity ruining your look
@@gillianasafu-adjaye8690 And the convenient hair wash days??!!! No longer spending hours detangling and doing all these treatments? LOVED my afro journey but whoa😂😂
Honestly I used to relax my hair when I was in middle/high school and now as an adult I do keratin treatments which is as natural as I can go. But honestly this is refreshing to hear about. I probably would never go back to relaxed hair but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I think about doing it often. There’s just such a convenience to it. No shame in whatever you decide to do with your hair. Get the relaxer if you want it! Or be natural or somewhere in between like me. No shame!! You’re the one that has to deal with it everyday, so do what fits your lifestyle best
The only think that makes me think I'll never go back to a relaxer is the stress of dealing with new growth and needing to pay someone to relax it for me. If I could relax my hair once and just have it be that way after that, I'd probably do it. But the fact that it will always grow out how it intends to be makes me resign myself to making something of that that I'm able to do myself. Not wanting others doing my hair is #1 priority to me. But definitely all her points in this video are things to love about relaxed hair. Everything comes with pluses and minuses.
I mean if you wanna change it, if you don't, don't. White or Asian people get perms to make their hair curly as well. Choice is a great thing guys. Freedom to do whatever you want is beautiful.
I’ve been relaxed (childhood), gone natural then relaxed again, then back to natural and have been for the past 6 years. I had healthy relaxed hair but I love my hair natural, especially since there’s more products available than when I first went natural. Other than the harsh chemicals in relaxers I’m all for experimenting with what works for you, at the end of the day it’s your hair and I’m not coming to your house to give you touch ups or detangling on wash day lol, so do you!
I have been relaxed since August of last year, so this makes me one year being back relaxed. I love it! The only thing I forget at times is that wash day isn’t long anymore. So I shy to washing my hair which is not good for my scalp which then leaves me with a lot of breakage. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I am not natural anymore so I could wash my hair and deep condition within minutes. Which I absolutely love! It’s still a process that I have to get better at. Nevertheless me being natural has definitely taught me how to take better care of my hair. I just need to take what I’ve learned and bring it over to this side of my hair journey. Thanks as always for your inspiring videos!❣️
I completely understand the "wash day" fear! I relaxed my hair in the spring of this year after being natural for over 10 years. I too keep shying away from wash day because I still have it in my head that it's going to be a big process! I have got to do better! 😊
Being a heat trained natural is a happy medium for me my hair texture has loosened which makes my hair easier to manage but i don't encounter the bad chemicals in relaxers
😂😂😂 glad you’re enjoying your relaxed hair. We’ve really over complicated natural hair. But I’ve normalised wearing my natural hair out and washing it, I’ve never even viewed it as a chore. But I get why people are tired I suppose.
@@AS-cs9gi My thing is people who relax need to stop saying it’s easy to maintain, when it’s still hard, I’d rather be struggling with my healthy natural hair than trying to take care of damaged strands that’s only “benefit” to me is that its straight and not kinky.
@@dolphinswilltakeover It’s so funny bc someone with relaxed hair will give many reasons as to why working w their natural hair gave them more difficulties, and naturals will say they’re both a hassle while giving no reason. Why is that?
Going back to relaxed hair is a struggle also. You got to deal with new growth which is another visit to the salon. Then the whole blow dryer or roller setting, curling iron process as a headache. I want to go back to relaxing but the thought scares me away.
Just do as much research as you can! You don’t have to style your hair with all these tools, and you shouldn’t let your new growth get too long and hard to manage before you go to the salon again. The beautiful thing about hair is that it’s personal to you, you don’t have to stick to routines or products that your hair doesn’t like.
I have relaxed hair. I don't style my hair with all those tools. I just wash my hair at night & let it airdry. Then in the morning I just comb it & that's how I wear it.
Got the exact same 4c textured hair (saw your relaxer vid), I was relaxing my hair myself then went to have it done professionally and it all went down hill after that. Fast forward from 2018 with me cutting my hair into a taper and learned about proper moisturing (my hair wasn't as tough as first thought) and then loc'ing up in 2019 till now. Reason I stopped relaxing is to get used to my natural hair and the endocrine issues it can cause (I already have a hormonal condition) my hair is now thriving being loc'd. Feel ppl should do what they feel for themselves 👌🏾
I understand why natural is liberating. Natural is well, natural! It does however require a LOT of work, love and effort and let's face the truth. Peoples lives are going faster than normal, time is moving much more quicker and sometimes we ain't no time to braid out, wash n go, and so on. Sometimes you want to give your arms a REST! Wakeup and goooo. I understand!!
Your hair is goal, Period!!!. I honestly feel like brands are sleeping on you, You deserve sponsors. I have seen transitioning from natural to relaxed but of all, you have really impressed me, you are managing it soooo well. I remember the first time when i saw you relaxed your hair and i was like whhhhhhy no!!! But now i understand. For me, its the consistency, be it natural or relaxed, you are just good when it comes to hair😄😄
After being natural for 12 years, am enjoying my relaxed hair, so versatile and easy to manipulate...however I believe the Relaxer technology has changed positively since our last encounter, recent past
I find my natural hair easier to manage than my relaxed hair. For example, my natural hair can withstand a hot, humid day at an outdoor wine festival with ease. My relaxed hair could not. I don't get knots either. Not sure why. Bottom line...people should do what works for their hair and their lifestyle. I agree, we should focus on things that give the most value in our lives.
I've been wanting to relax my hair since March but didn't. I completely understand this vid and many others of ppl going back to relaxers. Natural hair is a lot of work. I've been natural for 7 years and I still don't know what truly would make my hair its best. Wash day sucks because of detangeling and knots. I love the way my hair looks afterwards but I don't love the carpal tunnel I have after.
I am the girl, who put the hair in a messy bun and is fine for days... But I am natural 😅. I think a lot of people are doing the natural hair journey wrong. Since my hair is natural, it is so much easier to handle. Buuut I don't know why, but there are almost no good natural hair videos in english and in German. If you see a TH-cam video of a Spanish speaking TH-camr, she wash her hair and put a cream on it and is ready and do not have to take care for a hole week! And their hair look better! I changed my hair care routine and copied the one from frizzy desi... What could I say, suddenly my hair looks super, I need less products and it is quicker 😅. I am ready after about 30 minutes 😅.
You still have to be just as careful with relaxed hair....chemical relaxers are just that so now your breaking down your hairs integrity...still will need a lot of care to keep away from breakage also routine trims..but ofcourse wash day should be a breeze...and I definitely wouldn't recommend color..never seen a girl with nice hair after relaxing and coloring ..it's too much and eventually may cause damage...I've never been relaxed my entire 27yrs and don't plan to but I respect the ones that do ..natural hair is bigger chore and sometimes I be over my 3-5 hour wash day routine lmaoo 🤣😭 ... but the dedication is worth it for me especially wanting a texturizer back in the day and always straightened my hair ...at this point I already took the route of hair color so that is more than enough damage I wanna do lol to each is own at the end of the day.. honestly just gotta do what's best for you
I'm reading the comments and watching the video and I'm seeing people complain about 4c hair so much. Here people get a certain type of dreadlocks that u can stay with it for upto 2yrs with retouch once per month because they're busy and don't want to relax their hair. Stop making 4c hair care like a big chore. Just relax and we have no issue with that
4c hair IS a chore for some people. When I wasn’t relaxed I spent more money for products and getting my hair done. I couldn’t wash it as often because it was thick so it took almost a whole day to dry, and when I did wash it, it took almost an hour minus the detangling. And most folks wouldn’t want to loc their hair because there’s less room for variety when it comes to styling. In this video she’s not pressuring anyone to get relaxed hair and if you feel like ppl are attacking 4c hair than so be it 🤷♀️ Having natural 4c hair is just not suitable for everyone’s daily life and their expressing how and why.
@@trini2DBone134 i look after my mom, 2 of my siblings and my grans hair. All different curly hair types. People over manipulate their hair and use products they dont need. It is simple. People just dont know what they are doing and use high tension hair styles +dont protect their ends.
My hair is just a disaster, it has changed a lot due to hormonal issues ,stress and me having lack on vitamins ..so it really changed.. the texture the length.. It's now at the length of my ears.. can u imagine.. and not all of it.. it's not at the same length, beside the scalp issues like dandruffs.. Beside the depression that stopped my whole life.. Am thinking of relaxing it.. but ppl keep saying that am gonna lose what I already have.. Shall I try to fix it before relaxing.. or shall I relax it and maintain a strict routine .. It's just so difficult to see how my hair become like this..this really heart my soul..especially that I used to have a beautiful soft and tall hair.. now ppl keep pointing out that, every time they see me. And this really heart me so much and add to my depression..idk why I wrote all of this.. maybe becuz I wanted to say anything to ppl who won't judge me all know me so I'll feel a little bit of relief ..
Awwww, take care of yourself babe....your hair is too fragile to be relaxed right now. Eat healthy, drink water and take your vitamins. Wash your hair (properly) biweekly, at most and leave it alone. Your hair should grow back healthy after a while.
I have nothing against relaxers I had my hair in a relaxer for years, now I’m back to natural 6 years, what I don’t get is ppl complain about how much of a chore their natural hair is then get a relaxer and come and start showing their 10 step routine because they want to care for their relaxed hair so much to ensure it doesn’t “break” 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ but I digress
There is a middle ground. I TexLax my hair and I love it. I love texture, but my natural hair was too difficult to maintain. So I texlax. That way I am in no danger of over processing my hair. Texlaxing makes my hair more manageable. I still focus on the health and the growth of my hair. I am not into experimenting with hair styles. I just keep my hair in a protective bun. However, now I have discovered drawstring ponytails. I love them because I protect my own bun under the ponytail and it actually protect my own hair better.
@@adrienneroxanne9833 I do not use a texturizer to Texlax my hair. I use a relaxer to Texlax my hair. I use Hawaiian Silky. I only leave it on total time 15 minutes max.
After going natural in 2015, I began wearing my hair flat ironed straight in 2019. The main reason why I wear my hair straight was because of the freakin single strand knots 🙄.
I'm lazy, I don't have any time, or patience to be playing with my hair all day.. I don't want to protective style. I don't want to go to the salon. I don't want to relax my hair myself because my arms would hurt. I really am grateful that I can do a 10-15 min wash n go on my natural hair every few days and be done with it. I love my curls too.
Ive been natural since 2010 with a few chops in between. I'm now considering relaxing my natural hair purely for convenience, but don't really know where to start, especially in terms of prepping my virgin hair for it? And girl. You hit the nail on the head when talking about jeopardising the health of our hair.. my hair is super thick and honestly takes way too much time and energy to maintain. Like you, I too have had to mentally prepare myself for wash day etc. Its a lot! 😅😅
My natural hair is definitely more stressful, it's stressful for my girls too. It's just so much work. They fall asleep when Im detangling their hair and it's painful. They hate me having to work on their hair for hours and hours every week. There's more to life than hair. I don't want to spend such a huge chunk of my life fussing over our hair.
I just relaxed my hair3 days ago, but had been natural for 9 years. I never had a problem with my natural hair until I colored it and my ends were a different texture from my roots. But I always did what I wanted to my natural hair. If I wanted to straighten it I did, if I wanted to put it in a messy bun I did, if I wanted to wear it out I did. I think what makes natural hair so difficult for many is they limit themselves to certain hair styles and stick to rigid hair regimens. Maybe we need to stop making natural hair so complicated and just enjoy it. 🤷🏿♀️
Let me add my lil comment chih lol. I over the past 3-4 months have been contemplating relaxing my hair. Why? Because I have Seborrheic Dermatitis, which means I have to clean my scalp more than once a week in most cases. I have a 4a hair texture but my hair is VERYYYYY thick and I’m not going to lie and say that it isn’t harder washing my hair that often all while keeping it detangled, manipulating it less, and making sure my scalp is CLEAN. My dermatitis causes my hair around my hair line to fall out OFTEN when my hair isn’t washed. Some of you as naturals go a month or 2 weeks without washing your hair, you also can keep oils, butters, and leave in conditioners in your hair. NOT me because if I do I risk my hair coming out around the edges and we know what type 4 hair looks like around the edges when it thins. Relaxed hair from what I’ve learned can literally be washed everyday if I want it to and it can all be done in 30 min -and hour and even in the same interval of me taking a shower. That is CONVENIENT YOU HEAR MEEEE?? In my current natural state I have braid my hair or twist it just to wash it and wait hours for it to dry, I also have to make sure it doesn’t tangle during this process. The process realistically takes about 3 hours if I stick the course. Since my hair is so thick I can’t do a wash and go or I’ll have knots all over. If we want to get into what our hair should and should not do then we all need to take our a** to a island and live like we are actual animals and don’t have technology and resources to live like modernized humans. If we taking it back to being completely natural then we grow out hair and allow it to just grow and matte and not comb through it. Isn’t our hair supposed to be a defense mechanism anyway regarding the wild? Since there were no Combe and such back in the day why are we combing our hair in the “natural” state, why are you still slicking them natural edges down, why are you detangling it??? Relaxing is not nothing to do with conforming to European standards it’s conforming to being a HUMAN in a society we all live in whether you’re black, white, Asian. Hispanic or whatever. You think someone Caucasian wanted to have skin that’s easier to burn as opposed to someone with melanin and have to buy sunscreen just to enjoy a day at the beach or do you thing they should “be who they are” and just let the sun destroy their skin? Society is moving FORWARD we are not outside in a jungle climbing from tree to tree. We are at jobs, schools, vacations, etc. if your natural hair lifestyle is easier for you then enjoy it and speaks however much time you need. But me I’m here to have long hair and ease of mind and time honey. Be blessed. ❤
My hair was relaxed when i was young and my mother would do it around 4-5 times a year and it was longer and healthier than now being natural. That being said, I still am determined to get the same result being natural. I think the key for me is stretching with heat, so prioritising blow outs. But I completely understand why some women go back to relaxers.
4-5 years a bad lmao 😂. 1-2 a year is better because you give your hair time to grow out. You have so this being natural but you’re gonna see how annoying it is when your hair get madden down no matter how you moisturized it or throw in these bad technique other naturals talk about.
Love your hair! ❤ Some black women hope that no black woman will relax their hair ever....I think and hope relaxers will *NEVER* go away, despite I'm being natural myself for 24 years 😄
First, Your hair is AMAZING!! I can tell you are really enjoying it which in my opinion is the point of hair, to have fun with it. Personally, I have been natural since I was like 10 years old. For 5 or six years, I had locks. For me, finding Black Gurl Curls has been a life saver. I am still shocked to hear that people spend 5 hours washing their natural hair. Black Gurl Curls has taught me that that's not normal. Your experience with natural hair is what I would call "old-school" approach to natural hair. Today, there are experts/hair stylists that are certified that make natural hair the easy way. I spend about an hour an half to wash, style, and dry my hair. I do this every 5 days or so and my hair has been loving it. I am curious to know your thoughts on Black Girl Curls compared to what you knew about natural hair. (For example, thinking that braids are a protective style and that having our hair out is "damaging" in a way)
what is going on with this natural hair movement hate? there are so many videos right now about hating natural hair. i cannot believe people are going back to relaxers! is this a gen z thing?! i am so confused.
Backlash. The natural hair community came on strong. Accusing people of self hatred simply because they didn’t choose to wear their hair natural??? Like there aren’t a million other reason a grown adult might make a different choice.
Right!? I used to relax my hair and I hated it, it damaged my hair so much. I’ve been natural for a few years now and love it, my hair is actually healthy.
@@renee560 bingo. The natural hair community is one of the most judgemental groups I have seen. Constantly saying how stupid or ugly other women look. I saw one woman on TH-cam said people look like wet dogs for sticking their hair back. 😳
You do you love, all the best. My thing with alot of these people promoting natural hair products. It's not so much as the product itself but the routine. I myself like to use one line so I don't have to think about it now. A lot of women think that they have to find one perfect shampoo, then this perfect conditioner etc. If there isn't any significant damage to the hair, I think it doesn't have to take hours to do natural hair or much of a hassel. That being said, when I was perming my hair, over the years my scalp got badly damaged. I went natural to fix that damage, but it didn't work for me. I will be going to a dermatologist, but I am also going back to simple hair care. Hopefully my issues are fixed, but I digress. If you like your hair perm, rock it girl!
Those are exactly the five things bothering me right now and I'm just tired especially with a toddler, I just can't eish.. Thanks for the video I'm now considering a relaxer too 🥰
I don’t hate on those who choose to relax their hair, that would be weird lol. (Some folks do.) The main thing I disagreed with here was about wash days and convenience. Wash days can be incredibly short for natural hair, sometimes shorter than relaxed hair washed days or equal in time. I’ve seen people take unnecessary steps or do things that can sabotage their wash day (both relaxed & natural). My hair wash days with styling included can take as little as 20 minutes (for washing, conditioning, detangling, & a one product wash & go) and as long as 1 hr. (for pre-pooing, detangling, washing, deep conditioning, conditioning, and doing a wash and go with 1-3 products.) I wash my hair whenever I feel like too. I’ve seen people with all different hair types, including 4c, master the simple wash day routine within an hour or less. It’s really easy and beneficial for our hair. The longer time between wash days can mean longer detangling process. It balances out in the end, but it can cause dry hair for those relaxed and natural. P.s. I also think that many people are used to taking care of straight hair, so it makes having any other texture a lot of work, when in reality it’s just a simple just a little different. That’s probably why those who have been natural all their lives or most of their lives tend to view it differently and even prefer their hair naturally. I’ve been natural most of my life and I prefer it that way, but I know that everyone is different.
Omg I have super thick dense 4c hair and I think it's super fun to take care of it. Like 80% of people ik chop off after relaxing. It's not hard to take care of our hair😒. We are that way we have to deal with it and embrace it. Relaxing is not bad but u made kinky hair look evil.
You’re right it isn’t hard to maintain our hair. But it is time consuming. I am a college student with two jobs and 4b red hair so the color makes my hair even coarser. Along with being super tender headed relaxers work pretty well for my hair and schedule vs protective styles whilst natural.
I was never successful with a relaxer. It would damage my hair and make it thin. I love the wash and go. Use satin foam rollers and my hair has never been healthier. If I know it’s going to rain, I just pull up in a messy bun.
I’ve went natural for years and it was good experience and I’m definitely not as sacred of regrowth or texture anymore butttt I did go back to a relaxer because I just don’t have the energy anymore because of life
I agree with Domiiniique, do what you want with your hair, it’s yours. Personally I have been natural for 14 years, but I do t think too much about my hair, I do think about cutting it all off and starting fresh 🤔. I also agree with you on the products! Currently I’m using all in house products once they are finished then I’ll be ready to try more.
Girl I needed this. I was always relaxed then I let the needy naturalistas convince to try natural. I've hated the whole journey. So much breakage. I dread wash days. I put them off and end up with dry and damaged hair. I needed this to slap me back in to reality. "Click " subscribe *maybe no on the eating though... 🤷🏿♀️
I don't care if someone relaxes but people should also know there are gentler, non-permanent options like a texture release or smoothing treatment. Even a permanent Japanese straightener like Milbon is gentler than a relaxer.
I love point one, the cutting my hair has given me so much convenience. I also don’t see myself growing long natural hair for a long time cs I just can’t stand hair now. Relaxing for my scalp wouldn’t work for long term because it’s sensitive and I hated the burning when I used to relax my hair. Your hair is beautiful 😍 I wish my hair would look like that when relaxed but ayiii akwenzeki 😂😂😂
Absolutely love that you’re doing what works best for your hair ♥️♥️♥️♥️ I think relaxing techniques as well as relaxer formulations have come a loooooong way. It’s exciting to see how some companies have evolved to make their products less harsh on hair and the scalp and a lot of professional hairdressers have improved their technique and you seldom get burned now 😊
I too went the short hair route. I think a huge part was that yes, my hair was relaxed while growing up but it wasn't often. I wore protective styles more. I also found relaxer to take longer than my natural hair. I am amazed at how people think this is the opposite. You've got to deal with the growth and make constant hair appointments if you're not doing it yourself. Also, one bad relaxer is all it takes for your hair to go straight into fried territory. I've never seen anyone outside of youtube with healthy relaxed hair long-term. Everyone feels great about it after a year or two but then, the problems come.
I am tempted to but hold off relaxing because of my love-hate relationship with shrinkage. I love how it makes my hair look denser than it is but hate how it makes it look shorter than it is! I do wonder if I would be better at maintaining relaxed hair thanks to the knowledge gained from the natural hair community.
My natural has me overwhelmed 😩I'm 4c and it's gotten to past my arm pit last I checked. I've been too overwhelmed to do anything for months! I've never felt that way relaxing or straightening my hair. I have to do an epic comb out that might take two days or more!! I just wanted to wash and blow dry it but it takes so long to blow dry it! I'm not straightening it or relaxing it any time soon but I see it in the future! After I do my comb out, washing and conditioning my hair I'm going to take a few months before I straighten it with an electric hot comb!! I see relaxing in my future. Even if it's just 4 or 5 times a year!!😊
@@chrisychris0117 I'm a 4c hair and tangles, fairy knots, kinks and super curly hair makes me tired! At first I was okay with it but growing it out makes it harder to deal with the longer it gets! I can't imagine being natural past one more year!!
I totally agree that natural hair is inconvenient and it feels like you have to be here entire schedule around it. For me I just felt like my natural hair was worth investing in, and I wasn’t getting any length of attention with the relaxed hair. I would have a new growth every two months when I would go in to get my hair relaxed but my hair just wasn’t getting any longer. It was always dry and reflect off on the bottom no matter how much I try to condition it, add protein treatments, and add oils. Everyone’s hair is totally different I spent years watching TH-cam videos of women with relaxed hair that looked healthy and full. I just think that everyone’s hair reacts differently to relaxers. I also agree that it’s nice to have shorter wash chairs and it’s nice to not have to test out a bunch of expensive products. However I don’t agree with you that you can experiment more with relaxed hair. When I used to get my hair braided with relaxed hair, my hair would end up extremely damaged. Now with my natural hair I see no damage with using protective styles because my hair is not as thin and it’s thicker and more durable and can handle being braided and staying in braids for up to two months. I feel like I have more options whether I want to keep it curly whether I want to do a silk press which ends up looking exactly like a relaxer at the end of the day. I also think that if there’s ever a time where I’m feeling lazy about my hair I can just throw on a headband wig that looks relaxed or looks curly or looks like an Afro also . I think that it’s important for all black women to experience having their natural hair at some point in their life so if you’ve been relax for a super long time ladies I really recommend that you transition. But just so that you know it won’t be easy and it will be very frustrating at times. I would say for me the most frustrating thing about having natural hair is that it feels like you’re not making progress. It’s been two years since I started my natural hair journey and transitioning out of the relaxer meant constant trimming of the relaxed dead ends. It just is frustrating when you’ve invested two years into getting your hair to be natural and then because of shrinkage your hair just seems very short.
Been going back and forth for about a month woke up this morning natural going to bed relaxed. Natural six years lots of pros and cons for both. Will miss being natural but I’m going to love being relaxed.
I discover that relaxed is easy to maintain, more then natural hair . Natural is alot of work, I just buy ORs or Dark n lovely relaxer relaxer my hair at home and I'm done wait for 4 months to retouch my hair
Good for you. It's your hair and it looks beautiful. I've been natural ten years and my hair resembles fluff no matter what I do so I'm over it all! Lol
Tshego Makoe Some people use texturizer treatment on their hair. I personally use instant straightener I used a Chinese foam straightener which was really convenient cause it’s not a relaxer, perm or texturizer so I was able to use it on bleach hair cause it was plant based. I left it as is with of course conditioner, scalp oil and curl creme. You can also use a German ver called Glatt which you want to use a perm deodorizer and /or keep your windows open because it’s sulfur based but it keeps the hair laid without having to straighten it after. Brazilian Keratin blowout kits are a bit time consuming but the results last a whole month and help keep the natural hair stretched.
I like everything about you! Very thoughtful and Inspirational. You look absolutley stunning with the bun on relaxed hair and Iam happy for you to find your way, it suits you very well🤗
Tu es trop belle 🥰 I came to watch just because I wanted to go back natural because of people judgments, but watching your old videos I find that relaxed hair suits you better. And honestly thanks for your advice, whenever these demons will come tell me to do the big chop, I'll watch this video 😂😂😂🙏🏽🙏🏽 Merci ❤️❤️
I had relaxed hair since 8. Long and thick hair and I will say this relaxed or natural my drying time is a pain. I use to sit under a hooded dryer with a head full of jumbo hard rollers for 2 hours, face and head red as a beet. Lol . To each their own. Natural now 6 yrs and will.never go back unless I decide to want to wear my hair straight. Personally me...if my fragile hair line could take it I would ONLY wear braided or twisted or crotchet hair so I don't have to do anything to it. Just my 2 cents. You are lovely Btw 😊
I used to relax my hair every six months since I was twelve But then I found out how to embrace my natural hair and I felt so much better I was low-key ashamed about my own hair That's what it was I dont think I'll ever do it again However, I can see why people do it Taking good care of natural hair is time consuming and sometimes fustrating Each person does what works the best for them I used to be one of the people who would try to convince others to stop relaxing But now I see it's ok too Everyone should be able to make their own choice
I feel like experimenting ( point 2) doesnt really make sense to me. You can do a different range of hairstyles sure but not any. Curly hair has its own trendy hairstyles that wouldt work on any other hair. Straight hair is very much idealised which is probably why people experience fomo.
5h washing hair ????!!!! I never even knew it was possible 😵💫😵💫😵💫 no wonder anyone spending more than 30 minutes in washing and conditioning is doing way too much 😅 even when I was loose natural with mid back length I never spent over 1h including a treatment such as hot oil or mask which last 30 mins . You look beautiful anyway.kudos it suits you if your hair is healthy and you are happy that's all matters .I love your make up too that's why I clicked .

When I tell you the ONLY THINGS holding me back from getting relaxed is it's cheaper to do it my self but idk if I trust myself to do it so I'd have to get it done by someone ... But I'd have to trust them too 😩 I'm natural too, 4C but I press it out cause.....me can't 🤣 but this heat!!! But I want to be relaxed!!! But trust issues! 😩
I decided to embrace my natural hair texture 12 years ago when I saw a video of an ex-cop showing the brain of dead female women during autopsies. Most of the female women were black and their brains had a dark green fungus covering the crown of the head. The mortician said that this is what happens to black women brain when it is relaxed. The black female ex-cop practices holistic medicine now. After watching that video I vowed to never relax my hair again. The video is long gone, she was probably forced to remove it since it could be used for a lawsuit. Remember the primary ingredient in relaxers is sodium hydroxide which could do more damage to your health than good. The main reason black women are struggling with natural hair is product choices. It should only take a few minutes to shampoo, condition, and detangle our hair. Styling a little more depending on the style you are trying to achieve. I have three daughters with long thick type 4 hair. I realize my setback was my 10 year constant use of henna. If you are using henna you should stop since it dries out hair types that are naturally prone to having dry hair and scalp. Henna on black hair is good for only treatment purposes.
I love my relaxed hair . I tried to go natural it was horrible I couldn’t stand to even comb it or even finger detangle it .if I had to go natural I think I would cut my hair very very short
@@ugandanmillennial5511 Can you actually link me to a source that lists all the toxic chemicals found in relaxers and shows a clear and conclusive link between said chemicals and effect on health? When I did a deep dive I could only find few studies and they weren't 100% conclusive, they never determined a 100% link. When I asked another girl, she linked me something about paraben in relaxers. But I read some European sources on paraben that said in low measures paraben has very low toxicity and is fine.
@@MR-mq5xr sure I have to look for it but again it's like someone saying "this medicine kills ur system slowly not alot" the fact that there are any type of toxicity or parables tells you enough to stay away!
@@ugandanmillennial5511 I'm actually considering a relaxer but I'm still doing my research before I decide to go for it and I noticed paraben isn't listed on my relaxer box. And even then, according to multiple studies, parabens in their current form are fine because they use a very low dosage. I personally haven't seen convincing concrete results from studies making a clear link between relaxers and health. All of the supposed toxic chemicals aren't listed on my relaxer box and let's just say for arguments sake, they deliberately don't put it on the relaxer box, well that can also mean that there's a chance every other hair brand out there isn't being honest because these chemicals are also in any mainstream beauty and haircare products. Anyway, not arguing! Just need stronger evidence.
I stopped relaxing my hair because my hair was weak and whenever I would get braids they would eat my hairline. I’ve been natural since 2019 and I am struggling so much with my hair. I have high porosity hair and I struggle with finding good products to keep it moisturised for a long time. I deep condition shampoo pre-poo and the whole lot but my hair will just not retain the moisture. I heavily moisturise my hair but after a day my hair is dry again 😩. I don’t really want to relax my hair again because relaxed hair doesn’t really suit me.
Okay I think I’m gonna do it 😂 I used to always be team relaxer and then I think the wave just went natural and idk why I went with it lmao im ready to come home 🥰

THISSSS ! Thisss is the comment ! If you not gone help me wash detangle and style my 4c hair miss me with the opposition.

It's not just influencers. It's most of us. We are tired mei skat..
I also think that natural hair is more versatile than relaxed but then it depends on everyone choice. Now i am relaxed but i feel like i should go back natural for some reasons. But, it is just hair, we can rock it i which ever way we want.
Do you have 4c hair tho? Doesn’t sound like it
@@eyekandy3000 that’s what I was thinking 🤔
@@eyekandy3000 my hair is 4c hair babes.
Same reason I stopped. Just can't have that stuff on my scalp and it's impossible to keep it off with good results.

LOL
Even with twistouts, I have to leave them twisted to within a couple days of my intending to wash and start over.

Yeah me to..I don’t use gel or nothing and love it ..it’s take time but that’s the beauty in it for me …
Even though I'm natural for almost 5 years, I love watching videos about ladies who have gone back to relaxers!

Why not heat train? it has no chemicals

OH MY SOUL 😩😩😩😩🥹🥹🥹🥹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love how I can put my relaxed hair in two bantu knots at night, and wake up with beautiful wavey hair
Do you think your natural hair is also beautiful( genuine question)
@@r.b7979 yes I do
You still have to be just as careful with relaxed hair....chemical relaxers are just that so now your breaking down your hairs integrity...still will need a lot of care to keep away from breakage also routine trims..but ofcourse wash day should be a breeze...and I definitely wouldn't recommend color..never seen a girl with nice hair after relaxing and coloring ..it's too much and eventually may cause damage...I've never been relaxed my entire 27yrs and don't plan to but I respect the ones that do ..natural hair is bigger chore and sometimes I be over my 3-5 hour wash day routine lmaoo 🤣😭 ... but the dedication is worth it for me especially wanting a texturizer back in the day and always straightened my hair ...at this point I already took the route of hair color so that is more than enough damage I wanna do lol to each is own at the end of the day.. honestly just gotta do what's best for you
If I may, which type of products do you use?
You sure do have a lot of advice for someone who has NEVER relaxed.🤣🤣
@@cfoster6804 it could be that she is using deductive reasoning.
Natural hair is very simple and easy to care for. We make everything so hard.
I been saying this. Peopke overcomplicate it like seriously
You don't have to be so biased, everyone is different
@mani it is. We overcomplicate it

Your hair should grow back healthy after a while.

im so obbessed with relaxed hair, i feel feminine and im so in love with my hair
It’s great that this approach works for you. It won’t work for everyone and mine won’t work for everyone either and that’s ok.
Wow what texturizer do you use?

Its a lot! 😅😅
Hay Luv try a texturizer first it’s softens the kinks and you do this once a year. Look into it😌
@@ladimariie7688 oh ok! Thanks hun. I’ll definitely look into that. 😊
if it makes your life easier I say go for it, from a natural hair woman
I stop relax my hair since 11 year's now,for me I will never go back for nothing.
Can we also talk about how time consuming natural hair is for work😫 I relaxed my hair 2 years ago and I have no regrets.
Sis!!
Totally agree. Your life shouldn't revolve around your hair
I'm natural but plan on wearing my hair blow dried/Stretched. I'm tired of the Shrinkage and single stand knots
Some black women hope that no black woman will relax their hair ever....I think and hope relaxers will *NEVER* go away, despite I'm being natural myself for 24 years 😄
First, Your hair is AMAZING!! (For example, thinking that braids are a protective style and that having our hair out is "damaging" in a way)
It was natural and not 4c
what is going on with this natural hair movement hate? there are so many videos right now about hating natural hair. i cannot believe people are going back to relaxers! is this a gen z thing?! i am so confused.
It being gen z makes no sense, I think it’s just a mob mentality thing
@@renee560 bingo. The natural hair community is one of the most judgemental groups I have seen. Constantly saying how stupid or ugly other women look. I saw one woman on TH-cam said people look like wet dogs for sticking their hair back. 😳
I find natural Wash-and-Gos easy and practical. However, straight styles definitely are a job, but they look better on natural hair than relaxed hair.
The video starts at 3:00.
Thank you
Those are exactly the five things bothering me right now and I'm just tired especially with a toddler, I just can't eish.. Thanks for the video I'm now considering a relaxer too 🥰
Just use heat it's better than potential cancer chemicals
I don’t hate on those who choose to relax their hair, that would be weird lol. (Some folks do.)
The main thing I disagreed with here was about wash days and convenience.
I relax my hair after every 2months because it goes back to natural hair 😪, your hair is so healthy and beautiful
I’m really here for your relaxed hair content. Love it ❤️
Thank you gorgeous ♥️♥️♥️
I love point one, the cutting my hair has given me so much convenience. I also don’t see myself growing long natural hair for a long time cs I just can’t stand hair now. Relaxing for my scalp wouldn’t work for long term because it’s sensitive and I hated the burning when I used to relax my hair. Your hair is beautiful 😍 I wish my hair would look like that when relaxed but ayiii akwenzeki 😂😂😂
Agreed.
I love my natural hair. When I relaxed my hair my front hair were not good anymore . I was so ashamed of myself with bald front. Natural all the way
I am tempted to but hold off relaxing because of my love-hate relationship with shrinkage. I love how it makes my hair look denser than it is but hate how it makes it look shorter than it is!
I do wonder if I would be better at maintaining relaxed hair thanks to the knowledge gained from the natural hair community.
But what happens when the inevitable damages too far up and you have to go natural if you wanna get the length back
My natural has me overwhelmed 😩I'm 4c and it's gotten to past my arm pit last I checked.

It just is frustrating when you’ve invested two years into getting your hair to be natural and then because of shrinkage your hair just seems very short.
your hair looks so soft and healthy!!😍

Good for you. It's your hair and it looks beautiful. I've been natural ten years and my hair resembles fluff no matter what I do so I'm over it all! Lol
Tshego Makoe Some people use texturizer treatment on their hair.
I personally use instant straightener
I used a Chinese foam straightener which was really convenient cause it’s not a relaxer, perm or texturizer so I was able to use it on bleach hair cause it was plant based.

You make me want to go get a snack. You make it look so good lol and you look great girl!
I used to relax my hair every six months since I was twelve
But then I found out how to embrace my natural hair and I felt so much better
I was low-key ashamed about my own hair
That's what it was
I dont think I'll ever do it again
However, I can see why people do it
Taking good care of natural hair is time consuming and sometimes fustrating
Each person does what works the best for them
I used to be one of the people who would try to convince others to stop relaxing
But now I see it's ok too
Everyone should be able to make their own choice

Your chewing is distracting… for a new viewer. It takes away from the message. Although your old followers might not mind.
Nope I’m a new watcher, not distracted at all🥲🤍
Relaxers should never touch our scalp but to each his own
That's what I heard is the proper way to apply but I have never seen anyone, stylists included, do it that way.
@@cfoster6804 there is never a proper way of putting poison in your scalp sweetheart
Come home 😂😂😂♥️
