  • Dr. Rachel Sanborn, Providence Thoracic Oncology Program, discusses the topic of lung cancer and that there is an entire spectrum of different kinds of cancers that have started inside the lungs. Small cell lung cancers behave very differently than non-small cell lung cancer.

    I was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer on Friday September 13, 2019. I just talked to the chemo doctor about my options for treatment. If I don't want to go thru all that, I will probably be dead in a year.
    Going through this alone...I'm considering going to hospice. Lately life has become a daily battle just to survive. I would appreciate your prayers.

      I'm leaning toward hospice now. Chemo and radiation make me so sick I want to die. I started over a month ago and have only gotten worse. No $ doesn't help. Living with a friend with a foul attitude...a lot of stuff piling up around me not giving me hope for the future. People I thought might care have shown they really don't. Love is hard to find these days. This planet belongs to the 1st liar, murderer, thief and I hate him more than he hates me.

    If it's detected late and treatment don't start soon enough it is very deadly. Same with pancreas cancer, a very low 5 year survival rate once metestasized.

    My wife was diagnosed with this back in January, (5 months ago) they found it on accident she was perfectly fine feeling outside a pain in their shoulder which had nothing to do with the cancer. They started treatment with it after all the tests in April, chemotherapy and radiation. Hopefully they caught it soon enough because even when she started treatment she felt fine like there was nothing wrong.

      Unfortunately it can take a while to get all the tests and scans done before a treatment plan can be made. SCLC shouldn't take very long though since the PET and a brain mri are the only other tests. Still, it happens too often. For extensive stage sclc immunotherapy is given with chemo without needing any other tests. I wonder if that was considered. PDF, cancergrace.org/sites/default/files/1%20Liu%20Immunotherapy%20for%20Small%20Cell%20Lung%20Cancer.pdf and same in video, cancergrace.org/post/lung-cancer-video-library-liu-immunotherapy-small-cell-lung-cancer
      For limited stage this is a good overview of today's practices, th-cam.com/video/B4Xq6-zZn2c/w-d-xo.html

      Hi and welcome. Yes it's very possible to attain a cured status, by achieving no recurrence at 3 to 5 years post diagnosis. The numbers of those who are cured aren't high enough but yes people are cured of sclc. BTW, my husband was cured of a very difficult nsclc treated with radiation and chemotherapy.

      You're very welcome. I'm so sorry you're going through this. You didn't asked but since this is why I'm here I'll add, it's important to be your own advocate. One reason to keep this in mind is oncology is changing so quickly that it's impossible for our oncologists to keep up with everything however you as a person with cancer or has a loved one with cancer are very motivated to get it right and have the tools to find high grade info. Ask your onc questions and let us know if you have questions here or on our site forums @ cancergrace.org
      Take care :)

      @CancergraceOrg  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From www.cancer.org/treatment/survivorship-during-and-after-treatment/coping/nutrition/weak-immune-system.html Most raw fruit or veggie is fine. EXCEPT any kind of sprouts which should be avoided.
      Another fruit that may have interaction is grapefruit but that is most often suggested to avoid when taking targeted therapies. If grapefruit is a staple in your diet talk to your oncology team.
