Just replaced my passenger side door speaker with the help of this video. In the video he shows you how to take off the entire interior door panel to replace the speaker but I've found that as long as it hangs gently you can unbolt the speaker, put the new one in and then put the interior door panel back up on the frame of the door. The trickiest is thing is the first step and trying to get that stupid plastic piece with the clips out of where the passenger puts their arm. That was a pain in the ass. My job took 40 minutes and it was first time I had ever done a speaker replacement in a car. I very much appreciate the attention to detail in this video. I got a new speaker for $20 with shipping off of ebay.
Thanks for the video. The lift tabs on the door handle and the little pocket were a bit tricky to figure out, but it came out. Also, I found that I could just leave the window/door lock console's electronics connected after removing it from the door panel. I didn't even have to disconnect the door lock release cable. I was easily able to get to the speaker by just turning the door panel vertically. Thanks again for posting!!
Thank you for these instructions. I bought the speaker on Amazon, installed it myself, and saved a $100 in labor costs. It was much easier than I expected.
. Thanks I just picked up a used 08 G5 and noticed the door chime and turn signals where not working. I learned that it means the door speaker is blown so I found your useful video.
Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but if you put the end of the door release cable inside that round opening, it will drop into position perfectly and then the door side is designed to draw the end of the cable out of the holder.
Thanks for the great video! I just finished replacing my front speakers and it all went just like your video. So much easier after seeing it done than trying to use the Crutchfield instructions (which were fine, just not the same as seeing it with commentary). I can't believe the Cobalt stock speakers fail so often (mine has 40,000 miles) - it should have been a recall because when I'm driving down the highway with my signal on because I can't hear the chimes warning me I'm a bit of a hazard or at least a distraction to those around me that don't know what I'm doing. It sounds so nice with front speakers after months of a single intermittent speaker! Thanks again.
Did mine this morning. Bought them on Amazon and saved over a $100 too. The door cable is the hardest part but not beyond the capabilities of most. Once you do one door the other goes twice as fast. Oh yeah, it's easier too with the window down(ask me how I know). Thanks dude and thanks for TH-cam. How many times have I found the help I needed here?
My 07 Pontiac G5 sometimes has a rattle within the passenger door so, When I was at a junk yard, (I was in a rush because they were closing) I saw a cobalt or G5 door that was disassembled & I saw this white colored piece of styrofoam & I think it goes on the passenger door but, I cannot remember if it was a 4 door cobalt or a 2 door g5? I was hoping this styrofoam would tighten up this door & stop any rattle but, I do not see where it is suppose to go? Was hoping to see it in a video? Its 2-4 inches thick & about a foot long so, a strip.
Thanks man. My drivers front speaker went. Pont G5. Auto headlights. That side is the side fir the chimes. Well, I turned on the headlights during the day. Stopped the car and locked it up. No chime and I forgot lights were on. Dead battery.
looked was did it my car is dead I didn't disconnect battery not sure if it was because of this or replacing dome light two days ago. DISCONNECT BATTERY ground to be safe
For $45 bucks you could buy a cheap set of rockford or kenwood door speakers. Just sayin! Appreciate the info though. This was the easiest door panel I've ever taken off. If you kids want your speakers to sound night and day better, go to home depot and buy a $17 roll of U.Seal (roof section). Peel the plastic back and seal all those huge door cavity holes with the tape and your stock speakers will be sooo much clearer.
Thanks for the video; what is the reference for the speakers? size, watts? what do I need to know before go shopping, thanks, I just need a basic speaker...
I've got a problem where my driver door speaker (radio and chimes) is out intermittently. It will be out for weeks at a time and then it will suddenly it will work but only for half the car ride and then it will be out again. Do you think it could be a loose connection on the speaker end? I would hate to go through the trouble of taking the door panel off to find out that it was a wiring issue on the fuse box end.
I have the exact same problem for the G5. I plan to use this video to examine it. I am hoping something is simply loose but for both doors to cut out... I don't know if that's coincidence or different cause.
The speakers do go out intermittantly. On my Daughters car, the speakers went in and out for several months before she said something to me. It seemed to be based on the outside temperature.....as weird as that sounds.
Little late to the party, but had that issue as well. Simply upgraded speakers to fix, problem's gone away since. Front stock speakers truely are junk. Any normal 6.5" speakers will do, and use the Metra 72-4568 wiring adapters and Scosche SAGMHR634B speaker adapters, both cheap parts.
You can buy replacement speakers. Normal 6.5" speakers will work perfect. You'll also need two adapters - Scosche SAGMHR634B and Metra 72-4568. The former is the speaker adapter plate, while the latter is the wiring adapter.
The 08 Cobalt has 2 plastic pins on the outside edge that you pop out with a screwdriver. Thanks for posting this. I was afraid to pull the automatic window button thing out without seeing it first
Hi thanks very much...now I can try it ...one speaker had no sound since I bought the cobalt the other speaker is intermitant ...I know it's just a bad connection.*john
hey awesome video, liked it. I have an 08 cobalt and my left side door speaker comes and goes so im going to replace it. so what size is the side door speaker and will i need to ghetto rig a bracket for a factory speaker?
Installation procedure is the same, you just have to screw the speakers to your adapter plate as well as connect your wiring adapter. P/N are Scosche SAGMHR634B and Metra 72-4568, respectively.

Good job buddy!

I only say because I came here for just that reason lol
Thank you so much. You are a lifesaver my friend. This is the best video on this tutorial

This was awesome! I am not handy at all and swapped out the speakers on my daughters 2008 Pontiac G5 without any issues. Problem fixed!

I installed my new Pioneer 6.5 speakers using this video. It was a piece of cake. Great video, thank you.
Upload a video of how to remove the rear speakers, because one of mine does not work

Great video the door cable instruction was very helpful as demonstrated.
What size is the speakers
Just did another one today on my daughters car....took me 6 minutes

Hey what size our those front speakers?
I think they are 6" speakers, but they have a special mounting system.
Others have put regular speakers in instead of the factory ones
Ok cool thank bruh
Thanks very helpful. Took me 7 minutes ones I had watched this video. Wish I could help others

Thanks for the video, very helpful! Stock speakers will work, but if I'm going to all that trouble, I'm installing better speakers!
this video made it easy to replace my speakers thank you

That's what mine did too... Does that me I should just get new speakers?

do I have to buy factory replacement speakers for the chimes to continue working? I would rather buy better aftermarket speakers if I can. Thanks

Front speakers are 6.5inches 2 channels guys
what dental tool did use to get the tab out so easily?
Great video!!!
Used this video here to resolve a problem in my brother's speaker; turns out the bolt holding the speaker came loose, so we tightened it.
I can't do this myself. How much do you think a mechanic would charge?
helpful video, currently having this issue
Im having the problem where my front speakers stop working and work again too! Mine doesn't last months, it does it throughout every week ugh
You can also save time and yourself from disconnecting the window control wires and lock stuff by putting the inner door panel on a cardboard box :)
Thanks so much! Your instructions made something I never would have tackled easy!
thanks alot! very helpful
Awesome job.
(the 1st part)
inside the door pull
Thanks a thousand.
