    Great videos, Bjorn! They are a master class in traveling outside the supercharger network. I have 50,000 mi (~80,000km) of road trips in my model S. All my rookie mistakes have been around cold weather. I’ve stayed within the supercharger network in the US. I am too much of a coward to try a trip like this. Respect for you and your wife!

  •  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    So many familiar places in this road trip, awesome :D I've travelled on this route so many times, and I've seen the Supercharger network crawling it's way up north over the last few years, great to see the whole route almost completely covered with Superchargers now. Btw, Skellefteå is with sj-sound, same sound as twenty in Scandinavian :) Looking forward to part 2!

    If you were to do this trip in summer, I think you would feel it's less stressful since Autopilot can be used on clear roads. I appreciate your persistence for doing this trip during the winter. Not an easy thing to accomplish.

    Talking about Superchargers, Lillehammer SC just got hammered with Superchargers. Brumunddal and Øyer Supercharger each wupping 20 stalls are online in Norway, taking the load off Lillehammer finally.
    On this trip Hudiksvall and Töre Supercharger wasn't ready yet.

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hudiksvall won't get a supercharger as far as I know. I think you mixed it up with something else. And Lillehammer, Øyer and those other superchargers are not relevant here because it's a too long detour.

Yes the Norway superchargers are not related to this trip. Would have been nice to have them when you Nimber tasked. You once tweeted Elon about a full Lillehammer SC, maybe he listened.

    Oh man some of those nasty unplowed roads. Rain sucks but least the roads are clear.
    Yea that big charging screen on the Model 3 shows on AC as well. It's pretty cool. v2 should only go to 145kw the v3 sites will have the 250kw (so I understand, I'm probably wrong and might be US ones)
    Use the app to send to car! Just share from google maps :D Ugh yea waypoints would be great.
    I still have about 5-8% off on the GoM since I use more than rated miles and sometimes hammer it.
    Model 3 does it very easily with radar being blocked. Right side on 3 I need a ppf I've got so many chips already :(
    I better stop before I become a ABC person lol

    Seems like a huge number of long charging stops. Over 9 hours to travel less than 400 miles is a nightmare to me. Shows what advances are still needed in charging infrastructure.

    • @garywiseman5080
      @garywiseman5080 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow Chris I think this may be a worse case example. A few reasons:
      1) Bjorn can’t supercharge at full speed because of too many local supercharger sessions.
      2) The model X has the highest electric usage since it is the largest Tesla
      3) Winter conditions significantly decrease range, something I experienced driving in Ohio
      4) Charge rates should be faster next Winter with all the improvements rolling in
      Winter travel will remain slower anyway. The air is thicker, and it takes more energy to push it out of the way.

    • @chrisabbott683
      @chrisabbott683 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gary Wiseman Hi, thanks yes this all makes sense. It makes me worry, though, about buying a short range or short range plus Model 3 if the range will fall to only two thirds in winter. I wonder how quickly Tesla will roll out v3 superchargers?

    • @garywiseman5080
      @garywiseman5080 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrisabbott683 Chris, please forgive the unasked for advise. We now have 6 Tesla’s in the family, including Carols’ model 3, my Son and his girlfriend, an Aunt and a cousin. The only scares have come from a too small battery. I recommend stretching for the largest battery you can afford. AWD is nice, performance is nice, range is crucial. The larger battery also means faster charging, and more performance, besides more range. I don’t know anyone who has regretted buying the long range battery.
      For me, I waited for the 100KW battery on the model S, and for enough superchargers for my preferred route to Ohio. With both range and supercharging, my mistakes cost me an hour or two, rather than a tow or something.
      I don’t have the courage to try a trip like Bjorn’s road trip, away from the supercharging network.
      I drive ~600 miles (~1000 km) to Florida. I stop twice for about 45 minutes each time. It takes me that long for a bio break, a back stretch, and a quick bite to eat. My range means I stop at the superchargers I like, with the food choices I like. It makes a huge difference for me.
      Best of luck with your choice!

    • @chrisabbott683
      @chrisabbott683 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Model 3 could easily go from Mora directly to Sundsvall (300 km) without wasting time on slower chargers. And those Delta chargers doesn't always give you 100 kW. I tried a "100 kW" charger near Gothenburg with e-Niro and got a whopping 53 kW from it!

    EVs almost none existent in Sweden? You know Sweden has the third highest share of electric cars in the world when PHEV is included. It's also growing rapidly now since we got a big change in car taxation last year. Lot's of extra taxes on new fosil cars and up to 60 000 SEK (6000€) for EV.

      Bjørn Nyland difficult to find any other statistics but it looks like Sweden has the 4th highest pure EV market share in Europe. Can't be many countries outside Europe with higher market share. My point is that all countries have few EVs compared to Norway but Sweden is doing quite well compared to other countries.

    Wouldn't say EVs are non existent in Sweden. When counting phevs the sales of plug in cars are at about 10-15 percent of the total car sales. Pure EVs are at a lower rate but with the model 3 about 1000 models will be delivered in Mars. And about 5000 model 3s in Norway. Norway is King for sure but Sweden is not at zero.
