Since I started driving my '09 escape in 2017 I've been coming to your videos for reference with repairsand maintenance, thanks to you I've been able to keep her in tip-top shape so far. Your videos seriously are the best and most informative, easy to follow with clear precise instructions.
Awesome great works man, many thanks!

This is, by far, one of the finest videos ever posted to You Tube. I have the 08 Escape. I have rotors and pads up front but drums and shoes on the back. I'm replacing everything and will take my lap top down into the garage with me and watch this video every step of the way. On behalf of the mechanically-challenged population, Thank you for taking the time to post this awesome vid! PS: Nice Ram 1500 in the driveway too!

Finally an all-encompassing guide to the rear drums on my escape. I've been fighting with excessive travel and spongy brakes for a real long time, and while I didn't put the brakes together 'wrong' they definitely weren't right. The order of the steps and the small details really matter and after step by stepping through your guide they were definitely installed right. Finally my brakes work proper.
    Immense thanks bro, seriously.

It had the right balance of explanation to understand the process; suggestions, tips, tricks and techniques to make it easier; good visuals to understand what to do, and good understandable audio. The video helped me accomplish working on my brake drums with confidence. Good content. Thanks.

I finally did this today, on our 10 year old Escape that we’ve owned since new. The shoes actually weren’t as bad as I expected. But I’ve got to say, don’t cheap out on shoes and drums, I bought a kit off a well known website. I should have just called my friend who is a parts manager, the spring kit that came with the “kit” sucked, the brake adjusters sucked, I spent more time making everything work, than if I would have just bought good parts. This video really helps, thanks again!

One of the best drum brake videos I've seen. Most people miss the lubing of the backing plate. I would suggest to check the wheel cylinder a bit better.

  • @drektion
    @drektion 6 ปีที่แล้ว

@FordTechMakuloco your videos are great and have saved me thousands since we've owned a 2011 Escape. This was no exception but I had some trouble installing the bottom spring clip following your video.
Instead I reversed the order of the spring install starting with bottom spring (the small one) first. This way you can seat them in the slots on the bottom without having to pry at the shoes. I actually bent an aftermark pin prying on the shoes trying to fight the small spring into place.
Then position the shoes and set in place using the pins.
Then set the adjuster + spring in place (you will be able to seat it fully and adjust it out after installing the top spring).
Install the top spring per your video, being sure to seat the shoes in the brake cylinder slots and compress with your hands so the spring doesn't have to travel as far.
    Install the adjuster spring.
    Proceed as normal from here.
After some trial and error this was much easier for me without having to pry against the wheel hub, backing plate, or shoe.
Also, you should recommend people check their brake cylinders at this time. After I disassembled the one side it started to leak fluid. I checked the bleeder valve and bled the brakes a couple of times and it was fine after that.

Wow, those shoes look brand new after you washed them down, I`m doing everything on my 2005 Ford Escape this week. Everything looks so much simpler compared to the Taurus. I love the front strut installation on the Escape compared to the Taurus. And the front lower control arms are a cinch, no ball joints to buy and press in, you simply buy the complete lower control arm for only $59.99 a piece at Autozone. It sounded too good to be true but I checked them out and the quality is very good. Ford wants $170 a piece for them.

Wife's Escape is pulling to the right under medium/hard load, prety sure it's the rear brakes as the fonr have pretty even wear and I checked the caliper pins and movement and although the rear may just need adjustment I'm changing all four corners as I'm pretty sure they're all original. Thanks for the video Brian!

Thanks for this, it was a huge help working on my wifes care, especially getting that e-brake cable back on. I was about to sell the car since I couldnt get that back on! Question though, after I replaced the shoes and drums on both rear tires I hear a knocking sound coming from the rear right tire when I brake, it gets faster as I brake from a higher speed too.

How different is this process on one of the Ford Escape Hybrids? I have backing plates that are so rusted out that they won't hold the emergency brake cables at all. I assume I'll have to take off all this hardware plus whatever is on the hybrid model plus remove the axel to put a new one on there.

another trick I use for the lower spring is after you have pinned the rear most shoe, hook the lower spring into both slots then rotate the front shoe into place with the bottom already in its slot...then hook up the pin and spring retainer...it works great that way...cool video bro

The brake spring holder tool is made so that both ends of it pinch the straight section of the spring so that it can be stretched so that the hooked end of the spring is easily set into place, as opposed to using only the hooked end of that tool to grab the hooked end of the spring to try to drag it into its place.

My Ford Escape 2012 is only 42k miles. It's starting to squeal when coming to a stop. What front break pads might you recommend? I want something with good stopping power. Also, can I skimp and get the rotors turned, or should I just replace them? And finally, when do I need to replace the rear breaks (drums)? As you can tell, I'm completely clueless as this is my first car. Thanks in advance to anyone who might give me a hand here.
