Thanks for the insightful video, Sam. While recording rigs seemed to peak in popularity a couple of years ago, I still find them incredibly useful. Your breakdown has inspired me to share my similar setup, with a few key differences: - Light Mounting: Instead of a boom arm, I mount my light (a Smallrig 450C) directly on top of the c-stand. It's powerful but heavier with an audible fan. - Center of Gravity: I prioritize the setup's stability, given the expensive audio equipment involved. This influences my overall design choices. - Softbox: I use a 90cm parabolic softbox, inspired by your video comparing softbox sizes. I previously used a 65cm lantern but found the light spill across the room unsatisfactory. - Mic Setup: Rather than a dedicated boom arm, I use a Manfrotto single-arm 2 section with a camera bracket for my shotgun mic. It only extends 60cm, so I sit closer to the setup. I also occasionally use remote mics for flexibility. - Power Solution: Everything except the light is powered through external batteries attached to the c-stand. - Monitor Alternative: I opt for an iPad mounted with a Joby Gorilla Tablet Holder instead of a traditional monitor. - Accessories: I use Manfrotto super clamps, extensions, spigots, and ballheads throughout the rig. Manfrotto is expensive (compared to Neewer or Smallrig) but their clamps feel so sturdy. I'm constantly fine-tuning this setup. Do you have any suggestions for further optimization?
Hey Sam, great video and super helpful! Your all-in-one rig is really a brilliant solution for small studios. I'm impressed by how you save space while maintaining quality. Thanks for the detailed guide and tips on setting up. 👍
Good tips and thanks for listing everything you were using. I've just moved to a 11,5 square meters studio which is a downsizing in my case. I was used to have three cameras (guitar instruction videos and content..cameras grabbing a headshot as well as each arm while playing) on a single C-stand behind the desk, static setup. I used dummy batteries and had only one power cord going into the wall outlet. But now I've moved and I'd need new angles that then require a moving stand. My challenge is not so much the stand and lights and all, but the connection to the computer from that one stand. The hdmi cables have to reach the ports from every location in the room so that's what I'm tinkering with right now.... Thanks Sam!
@@trendyboymx Hey thanks for chiming in. Oh yes, at my old place I've had cameras on this C-stand and all cables neatly secured along the stand, all the way down to the foot/wheels. Just checked, I have two 5m HDMI cables already and will get the third. Will definitely secure them with cable bands so it's like one thick cable between the stand and the computer. Remembering some earlier disasters I'll also secure the HDMI cables to the desk leg before connecting to the computer... Cheers!
This is great but i was way too fast for me I didnt get a proper look on the whole think what is where and at which angle, hight and so on. I am beginner, so maybe show more and sower next time. Thanks!
Will this be good for a two person set up I’m gonna interview. I want to have my camera and then a phone set up for reels and then two devices that will get an angel of myself and the person I’m interviewing
Nice video Sam! I actually saw a few other people doing this and I decided to do it myself. My last video I actually shot with my one c-Stand setup. I don't have wheels yet (on order) so it's a nightmare to move, and I set up a long boom arm for an overhead shot with my insta360 Go 3s. I am also using the Comic Vm30 wireless so I don't need the cable, as well as a Lepow 15" portable monitor that is actually my second monitor for my Macbook when I travel. I have a few other videos in production but I may and up doing one with my setup as well. Maybe it'll help someone that has the same workflow as me. Thanks again. Subbed.
I haven't read some books as well 😀 Oh also add tennis ball to end of boom arm so your TV (and walls) can thank you 😂 For extension lead under the desk, you can get cable tidy box that you place extension lead inside so it look a bit tidier with all plugs hidden. I did that with mine and shove that hideous power brick inside!
I am curious about that setup to keep the plugs and power brick hidden. Do you have a link to the respective products? I want to improve the cable management in my recording rig.
@@trendyboymx Did YT just deleted my comment?! 🙄 Was saying look up D-Line Cable Tidy in Wickes or Homebase as they come in white and black. Homebase have 2 sizes, small and large. I have small white ones. 👍☺
Great tips and useful walk through you set up!! THANKS. Quick Q - if you haven't done a video on this already. If you where to buy ONE light - starting out doing talking head and planning on advancing to making courses or the some smaller corporate interviews would you go with Godox SL 60, Godox ML 60 (like the black one you introduce) or the white ML 60 II - It seems like the softboxes one comes in 60cm? is that okay for these things? 🙏🏻
any other Yanks searching the comments for what is a Wonga? 😂(its money) who doesn't like save a bit of Wonga, quid, bucks, cheese... toppins. great vid, thanks!
Try this and let me know how it changes your workflow 😃🎥
*My Room is a Bit Smaller then yours, I love these ideas but I wouldn't have a place to store it when I'm done. But I do love these small room ideas*
would love a light weight travel version of this 🥰😅
I keep wanting to do this... thanks for inspiring me again!
My pleasure! Ah mate it’s epic! Didn’t realise how good it was going to be until I tried it. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻🎥🤩
I love having an all in one roll around stand! My wee studio gets so messy so quickly so not having to reset everything every time is great
So good! 👌🏻

Isn't a set of 5M-long HDMI cables enough? I have a similar room and situation and I ordered 5M HDMI cables.

Great, in this set up what lens are u using ?
Hi. I use the 24mm lens 🎥🙏🏻
@@SamHolland tks, any idea if this type of set up would work with a 35mm and with the stand a little further away from you ?
