Oh my gosh! I can’t believe I won! I never win anything and literally gasped on the subway ride home when I saw my name on the screen. So excited to talk to you and get your advice for my big day! ❤️
I am a DJ and I really appreciate the weight and stress you put on having a good DJ. When people value us and book us ahead of time and we get to talk and find out what you need and want, we get to do a better job. I see it this way, besides the venue and the food, we are the factor your whole wedding is judged on.
We had a 31 month engagement from start to finish. We currently have about 11 months left (got engaged on Valentine's Day, 2017, getting married on September 6, 2019). We booked our venue over two years in advance, our photographer and videographer a year and a half early, and I have already ordered my dress, bouquet, and save-the-dates. I like being ahead of schedule!
Honestly as a makeup artist (freelance and in salon) I would recommend booking that 8 months even 12 months out. I have weddings booked already for June 2019. Have the same people like you said to do your hair and makeup for your engagment shoot. I especially recommend this for people that aren't used to wearing makeup or very little. Since when it is professionally done it can be a little shocking for some people. Also please please please do yoursevles a favor and speak up about what you want from the get go. As a professional we can always tell you if it will work for you or not. We can always tweak things and takes things off. Just don't constantly look in the mirror throughtout the process. It's like having someone watch you work. Which is distracting and can eat up a lot of time that cannot be wasted. You are also looking at unfinished work and as I said we can always tweak and add things.
Oh and to add to not wasting time. Try to come with clean faces and be on time. Your time is tight as it is on your wedding day. Don't make it even tighter and stressful by showing up late with last nights makeup on your face. Every little second counts and if your artist has to sit there wiping off old makeup it can eat up 5 sometimes 10 min. alone.
Agreed. I booked my hair/makeup almost immediately after booking my venue (16 months out). I knew who I wanted to use and she books up roughly 9-12 months in advance so I didn't want to take any chances.
I was wondering if you could provide some advice. I want to get engagement photos taken for my save the dates and was considering having them done after a hair and makeup trial. However, when I get my photos taken I’ll be about 11-12 months out from my wedding date - is this too soon to have a hair/makeup trial? Will I need to have another one closer to the wedding so that the hair/makeup artist can remember what they did, or if I take photos and notes to document is this enough for them to go off of on my wedding day?
I came to say this too! I’m a bridal hair and makeup specialist, I book up about 12 - 14 months in advance! It’s always a bummer to have to turn away brides, but I think some have a skewed idea of when they should book. I’m planning my own wedding and your videos have been super helpful! Even though I am part of like 5 weddings a week, planning it myself is a whole new ball game 😂
6 months to go! April 6,2019! So far we have my dress(which still needs dry cleaning and alterations), the venue, and our photographer. Most of our wedding is me DIYing including invitations, centerpieces and florals. My girls dresses are picked out so yay! They just have to purchase them. I feel like we're so behind. 😬 We were supposed to get married in September but a lot happened. Hurricane came through and we had to spend our savings replacing almost everything we own, found out we were pregnant(surprise!), I lost my ppretty decently paying job. But I'm getting married April 6. Even if its just me, him, and our photographer there. Sorry that was a lot for a youtube comment lol. Love your channel and believe it or not your videos make me slightly less stressed out about everything. Oh and Congratulations Kathy!!!
Hello, I have 11 months. But it took a few months to find and book the venue and our date! So now we have 8 months left! But I'm happy to say I have the venue/date/table&chair rentals, photographer (and scheduled engagement photo shoot for February), videographer, officiant, DJ, month-of coordinator, and just said yes to my dress TODAY!!!! Woot woot! And we've done 2 tastings, but I'm so particular....and I need better! Oh and almost everyone in the bridal party has said yes! Got one more bridesmaid to ask, which I happening tomorrow as I'm driving the 2 hours to go see her in person! (I made adorable bridesmaid proposal boxes!!) BUT, yayyyy it's coming along!! Thanks for being such an inspiration!!!!
Your videos are soooo helpful. I’m not engaged yet, but my boyfriend and I have been talking about getting married May 24th 2020. He told me to start planning, so I’m hoping there will be a proposal soon. Watching your videos get me excited to plan my future wedding. Thank you so much! 🙏🏽

Also I love your personality and could totally relate when you were singing songs from The Greatest Showman in your car 😉😂 keep doing what you do! ❤️🙌🏼
Can you please do a video on small weddings? We only have a combined 50 people to invite to our wedding and he's going to be a fresh university grad while I'll still be in school so we're looking for a few ways that we can "cheap out" if you will. Most of the resources I see are for weddings of 100+ people. :)
I booked everything a year in advance LOL I had 2 years to plan so I got everything "done" in year 1. Now I just periodically check in with my vendors to make sure we're all on track 😊
I have been watching, rewatching, bingeing your videos like there is no tomorrow lately- planning a destination wedding has been getting the best of me- so I wanted to say thank you for always making things make sense and for putting my worried self at ease. Thanks SO MUCH for your videos- you are such a lifesaver.

Got engaged on March 8th. Getting married on December 8th. Almost done with everything :) just trying to rent some chairs and waiting on my fiancé and groomsman to go pick suits 🎊 Love your videos, very helpful advice. Thank you.
Ooohmygosh thaaanks! My inner crazy-wedding-planning-@ss has been LOST in the wedding planning timelines! I got myself a suuuperpretty wedding planner that I love putting photos and stickers and notes in (it's very instagramable) butttt it's quite useless since many sections are things I'm nottt gonna do. I'll keep it as a mascot of sorts but I'll be using this going forwards! A year out more or less - haven't booked the venue yet but we'll have a proper walkthrough on Sunday!! IiiiiiiihhhhhhNnnnNn!!!!!
12 months for the big Day!! And researching everythiiiiing! Love watching ur videos they're helping me alot ! Thank you Jamie your so sweet and super honest!
I have been engaged a year. We booked our venue last July and our date is June 8th, 2020! We have the venue, photographer, and dj booked. Now I’m working on month of planner, videographer, and dress! We are paying for our wedding ourselves so having that time to cash flow as we go is a huge advantage for us!
I get married June 6th 2020 (the day before our 10 year anniversary) and all we have booked is the venue. Waiting until Christnas is over to plan the rest but I'm itching to get other things in place!!
I have about a year and half and was placed on the waiting list for my DREAM venue! I feel like I can’t plan anything until I know if I got the place! I already have photographer, MUA, and DJ so I think I’m off to a good start!
We got engaged in June and our wedding is October 2021 so today it’s a little less than 27 months. We’ve already booked our venue, which includes food, booze and ceremony. We are looking at our DJ and a lot of them in the area also include photography and videographer. I like having this much time out to cost compare and work on our vision.
I'm 11 months out and have every vendor booked including rehearsal dinner restaurant! We're getting married in Charleston though where wedding vendors book up fast for the peak season months! Plus we got engaged about 5 months ago so the long engagement has worked out wonderfully for my type-A detail-oriented personality. Next on the list is wedding party apparel, save the dates, and ring shopping! It's feeling so real already!
Getting married 12.2.23 and already booked the vendor, working on the dj, and meeting a caterer this weekend. I kinda worry I'm doing too much now and I should wait until next year.
Not even dating so I can't put your wonderful tips to use at all....yet! I just love watching and listening to ya! I get excited for your uploads like I'm actually planning a wedding lol
I know I have said this in some other of your videos but I really am truly thankful for you and your channel. You have been so unbeviably helpful with the planning process ❤
You are an angel! Thank you so much for sharing all these great tips with us! I am in the early phases of wedding planning and I am feeling overwhelmed but each time I watch a video, I get so many tools and amazing tips and I just gain more confidence. Thank you so much.
Our wedding is on the 14th of December 2019😊 booked our venue and photographer/video already. Wedding dress is next on my list 😊 these tips are great and will definitely be using them 😊💕
I had 12 months but am down to 6 and a half months. Thank you for your videos, they really have helped me know what I need, what I don't, and how to make this as easy as it can be. You are the best!
Thank you for this video! Your channel has been so helpful for figuring out what is important to my fiance and I during the wedding planning process - 11 months to go for us! We've managed to book almost all of the things that are really important to us for our wedding day already (Venue, DJ, Photographer and we're in the midst of discussions for our marriage officiant and caterer/bartender). I can't believe we've done so much in the 3.5 weeks we've been engaged! Thanks for all the information on your channel!
I've been helping my best friend plan her wedding and came across your videos. They have been so helpful! I had no idea there are so many little details that go into weddings.
I have 20 months to go... I already have excel sheets out the yin-yang yet, I feel like I still don't have enough time to get things done! ;^; Luckily Jamie's videos have been making me feel more and more confident!
Your videos have tamped down my anxieties soooo much! I've never given a wedding much thought because I didn't think it'd happen for me. But since I just got engaged 2 weeks ago, I started looking around, and realized how expensive and complicated everything is! We want to do a non-traditional gothic, Halloween wedding next October, and finding vendors/venues that work with our theme AND budget is proving to be very difficult (and getting our families on board), but I feel like I at least have the tools to deal with that now. :) I've watched all your videos in 2 days! haha Thank you so much for all the tips!!
Thank you, Jamie!!!! These videos are so helpful! I keep telling my boyfriend we need at least 6-9 months to plan our wedding, but he's ready to just throw in the towel and go straight to the courthouse, lol. Sometimes 6-9 months feels too rushed, but I love watching your videos cause they help me think ahead and prioritize what's important. Could you do a video on how to find a wedding planner? I live in Texas, and I'm sure there are lots of good planners here, but I'm a little overwhelmed at how to start looking for one in my area. Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
Mine is odd because I had 18 months but I live abroad and I'd only be coming home once in between my engagement and my wedding. I'm getting married in my hometown. So this October I'm going crazy doing all my research and booking everything so that I can meet with everyone when I come home for Christmas. It also makes the dress and alterations that much more.... interesting...
Looking at almost 2 year time line 😅 but it gives me plenty of time to DIY and put some personal love into my wedding 🥰 going to look at venues at the end of August for my Birthday 🎂
We are now officially 14 months out! And have a bridal show this weekend, hoping to find a couple more of my big vendors! (Already have venues and officiant cause getting married at my church - and the priest asked if he could do it as soon as I was engaged!)
10 months to go! Hi! Your videos are PERFECT! Funny thing...I started watching your videos months ago, then got engaged this past August 🙌🏾😀. Woop! Question: as a professional in the biz, what is your opinion on email save the dates? 2nd Question: What is the appropriate verbiage for save the dates and invites if you’re having an open ceremony, but hosting a private reception? 💕
We are getting married 11th of April 2020 and we have the venue and photographer booked! Next i'm looking at the celebrant and Dj! I have also been getting quotes from caterers etc but we aren't 100% sure on what we want yet. It freaks me out to think of organizing and booking only 12 months in advance!
We just got engaged(yesterday!) but im thinking that our engagement is going to be a little less than 2 years. As of right now it depends on what my options are for taking off time for work since I just started a new job. 😄
Getting all these vendors nailed down early should also lessen the stress in the few weeks prior to the wedding. It’s still going to be stressful but at least some of the hard work is already done.
As the owner of a catering company , I can tell you , if you wait until six months before your event to go with us , odds are we are all booked up on weekends . Here in the south , food is your “Thank you “ to your guest , and there are certain foods / caterers people like to eat / see at weddings , and food is a very big deal here . Catering venue and photographer for the exact same reason . 🤗
I’m currently trying to book my venue three years in advance not sure if they’ll let me ha ha. Other venues I talk to would let me do that hopefully the one I chose will work with me
We got legally married on June 5th, 2019 with a judge. Our wedding date is June 5th, 2021. We started planning around 24 months. But did not contact vendors until 17 months. Right now it will be a little less than 16 months and we have booked our coordinator, venue, and photographer. We will book our videographer next and we already know who it will be, Amari Productions. :)
Our venue gives us a preferred list of vendors as well as 2 mandatory vendors list which is our DJ and our Bartender. Thankfully I researched the venue requirements prior to booking and then stalked I mean "researched" the vendors on their 2 mandatory vendor list prior to booking the venue so that once we booked the venue we quickly made our decision since we saw that the best vendors also do other venues. So if you like certain venues...make sure you know what vendors (if any) you can bring in and which you have to work with. Happy vendor hunting brides!! 👰🏻💍
Thank you very much for your videos, they are really helping me out a lot. i am getting married in September 2020 but i have my planner and we are already done with looking for venue, food, decor, DJ, number of guest, almost everything. we even know vendors closer to the venue to rent from and drawn a budget based on that for my partner . But i feel that i have done things too early and that really scares me a lot advise please.
Yayyyyy Cathy! I don’t know her but that’s awesome! Haha speaking of timelines, our wedding is in 6 months and my fiancé is just now going over the guest list. 😓
There is an engagement ring in my house (but not on my finger). My FH and I have been talking about a Winter wedding next year... but I'm a little worried he's going to wait until Christmas to propose. So that would put me on a 11 or 12-month timeline. We have to get married in our home state (Iowa) while we live in Maryland. Can I hire a wedding planner to help me do the whole thing, not just the last month? What is a realistic price range for that? Our budget will likely be less than $10k.
I have 24 months! Hopefully. We plan to get married in September 2020, but the venue we want doesn't open their 2020 books until November. So we have to wait until then to book. I would really like to plan a lot now and book as we can, but my fiancé is very like "why do you have to talk about it all the time when it's 2 years away." I'd rather get it done now and not worry about much 6 months before the wedding! >_
Great video I'm the mother of the bride we have started now date may 2022 give it self plenty of time for everything then hopefully 6 to 8 weeks before have everything done time to relax and chill before big day
These videos have been so helpful. I have one question, how many caterers is normal to talk with before hiring one? I have already started talking to one, but I want to see what other caterers can do before I book one for my wedding.
I’ve been binging your videos all day! Your tips & tricks are super helpful! Could you do a video about hiring a wedding coordinator when you have a small budget? In my research, couples are stating that the coordinators help save so much money that they pay for themselves. However, with our $15K budget (metro-Detroit, Thursday evening, winter wedding), I am very concerned that spending $2-3K on a coordinator will eat into a large chunk of our already small budget. Information in the video could include things that couples (with little knowledge of weddings) could probably do themselves versus things that couples should consult their coordinators for. Basically, how to maximize the services of a coordinator (full service, month of, & day off) without relying on them so much that their services eat away at your overall vision/budget. (Hope this makes sense & I know that doing a video like this may not be helpful for your business 🤭😂) Thank you!
I have a question. If this type of intricate and long question is something you charge for, I totally understand. Anyway, here is my predicament. My fiancé is from Ukraine, no green card, but has a SSN and everything. His original document with his Work Authorization Card says “does not guarantee re entry into the US.” I want to have both our families present, but most of his family and friends don’t have Visas for the US, and it’s a quite expensive and lengthy process to obtain. A destination wedding seems like an obvious choice here, even though that will limit my family and friend’s attendance, but my concern is that my future husband may not be able to come back home with me. One idea to get around this is to get married in court here in California without a ceremony and do the actual wedding and party when we are sure he can come home. Using this option, i am concerned that the “Hype” of the formal ceremony and party with die down, as we will already have been married for some time. One thing that may help to keep the “enchantment” is that I don’t know if I want to change my name until we actual celebrate our Union with our families. I don’t know what the legal processes are, or if they might frown on changing my name a year (or so) after the fact. Basically, it’s complicated, and I’m looking for a little support and/or insight. Thanks any and all who read this whole thing. ♥️
We have been engaged for about a month and are looking at about an 18 month engagement. We dont have a solid date but are committed to early Autumn 2020.
I have been binge watching and a new subbie hi! I do have a question that maybe you have answered. If you have friends or family that are professional and you would want to hire them is that rude that you would want them to work the wedding or should you stick to just having them attend
“Groomsmen have a hard time ordering thinngs on time” Girl, my entire wedding party told me a solid year in advance that they were all good buying and ordering their own attire and despite me getting on them about ordering them ONE of the bride people has their stuff because he’s wearing his dress blues. Love them to death, but idk how to manage these people! Wedding is a month out 😫 so now I gotta scrounge up the funds to order the attire myself and pray it gets here on time.
I just love your videos ❤️ Also.. what are your thoughts on using family or friends as vendors? I'd feel bad about making them work at my wedding.. but I have some cousins who are DJs and I know they're amazing. They've already told me they would do my wedding and I know they would give me a discount, and they're insisting, so I'm torn. I also know from personal experience that it can be tough working with family 😣
So, maybe this is a regional thing, or a state thing... the thought of "hiring" bartenders is weird. If the venue doesn't have a bar that is staffed you're more than likely on private property and at that point there are no bartenders, everyone has already brought their own coolers and there is typically a stock trough full of ice and beer free for the taking. But I also live in a state that consumes the most beer per capita in the US. Also open bars are a "luxury" here and not typically done either, once again must be a regional thing.
My honey and I are planning to wed on September 19, 2020, but even though it's almost 2 yrs away, I feel like I need to start writing stuff down, booking places, deciding the bridal party, and getting on the game!! Is this too soon?! Does this make me a crazy bridezilla-ish bride to be? We live in a town of 500 people, and the closest city with vendors, etc has a population of 26,000 people. We want to have an outdoor wedding with a place you can be inside, as well, but limited options. Would you recommend talking to the places and getting it set up soon, or waiting? Not knowing the area, I'm sure it makes it harder, but is there a general idea in your professional opinion? I have to say that I LOVE your videos and everything you have to say and share!! Keep it up :-)
Research and visit as many venues as you want. Since you have time, no need to book right away. Many venues do “open houses” where they do everything they would for a wedding just to show the place off. Also, don’t trust the wedding websites to give completely accurate quotes for the wedding venues. Contacting the venue directly is always best. They’ll usually send you a pdf of their prices.
18 months! I just got engaged but I plan on getting married in August 2022. I've been following you for years but now my time has come!
Oh my gosh! I can’t believe I won! I never win anything and literally gasped on the subway ride home when I saw my name on the screen. So excited to talk to you and get your advice for my big day! ❤️

May 16, 2020 - 1 year, 6 months and 30 days = WAY too much time on my hands! I planned the whole thing thanks to your videos. And now....I wait!
Oh! This is my chosen date! But nothing is booked/ prepared. Well, I have a finace.... 😂
Started with 14 months. now just under 9! 235 days to be exact! STRESSIN to be honest!
Stressing out! Lol. July 31, 2021 so a little over a year... Wish we had next steps like a timeline! Great video, Jamie! Thank you for creating it. 👏🏼
Can you do a video on all things wedding dress, what you should spend, should you get expensive shoes, jewelry, a viel, alterations?:)
Sept 28 2019! Venue booked and paid off. Next up, photography.
We have about 17 months left, and I can't IMAGINE trying to figure out things before that! I'm amazed atvpeople who can plan in 6 months or a year!
My wedding is 17 months away! I'm in LOVE with your videos, they have already helped me SO much!
20 months out! So excited! Love your videos they're really informative!
Just got engaged, and your videos are super helpful! Thanks Jamie 😊
Love those videos, hugs from Costa Rica.!!!
Having vendors asap is important for securing dates but not so fast you book one who you dont like.
We are now officially 14 months out! And have a bridal show this weekend, hoping to find a couple more of my big vendors! (Already have venues and officiant cause getting married at my church - and the priest asked if he could do it as soon as I was engaged!)
My wedding has now come and gone and I still watch every video!!! lol
I have 11 and a half weeks to go 😊 sooo excited
this video was so helpful God bless your SOUL 😭😭
Thanks again for another awesome Vid, now to tell hubby-to-be that I'm not crazy to want to book the videographer now
We have 3 years before our wedding 😅 to save money and so I can DIY some stuff!
Getting married in June. Just started planning.
💕
currently sitting about 15 months, we dont have a solid date yet. Looking at venues this weekend.
Aother great video, you ROCK!!!
I love you and I love your videos you’ve been so helpful throughout my wedding planning
Love your videos! Our original timeline was 12 months for Oct 2019, now our preferred timeline is just 6 months for April 2019 😱😱
Getting all these vendors nailed down early should also lessen the stress in the few weeks prior to the wedding. It’s still going to be stressful but at least some of the hard work is already done.
I got engaged on Wednesday and I am already planning every single thing. I don't know my date but it's probably June 2022
Have got 2months to my great day... December 29th
December 16! Yay winter brides!
I'd love a video on having an epic wedding for a wedding guest of less than 100.
Would love to see a timeline for 3 months... I'm not doing 3 months I just watch too much 90 Day Fiance LOL
I have 12 months !!! So excitedddd
I have about 18 months
Thank you very much for your videos, they are really helping me out a lot. i am getting married in September 2020 but i have my planner and we are already done with looking for venue, food, decor, DJ, number of guest, almost everything. we even know vendors closer to the venue to rent from and drawn a budget based on that for my partner . But i feel that i have done things too early and that really scares me a lot advise please.
Yayyyyy Cathy! I don’t know her but that’s awesome! Haha speaking of timelines, our wedding is in 6 months and my fiancé is just now going over the guest list. 😓
Bless you and your nerves! I'm 7 months away and the groomsmen still haven't been told they're in the wedding. -_-
Laura Hall girl saaaaaame! I can’t work under these conditions!
I hear you... I feel like it's a guy thing. Keep having to nag because they won't get it done by the deadlines!
Could you do a separate video about having friends be the officiants at your wedding. Or does this fit under the "friend-ors" category.
11 MONTHS LEFT! VENUE BOOKED
I’ve been planning my wedding aince I was 15 so umm 9 years lol
I have 24 months! Hopefully. We plan to get married in September 2020, but the venue we want doesn't open their 2020 books until November. So we have to wait until then to book. I would really like to plan a lot now and book as we can, but my fiancé is very like "why do you have to talk about it all the time when it's 2 years away." I'd rather get it done now and not worry about much 6 months before the wedding! >_
How do you know if you're getting a good DJ? It seems like that would be heard to vet, right?
Great video I'm the mother of the bride we have started now date may 2022 give it self plenty of time for everything then hopefully 6 to 8 weeks before have everything done time to relax and chill before big day
21 monthsss!!
These videos have been so helpful. I have one question, how many caterers is normal to talk with before hiring one? I have already started talking to one, but I want to see what other caterers can do before I book one for my wedding.
What's an engagement session ? What's a bridal shower ? Is that the same as the batchelor party ?
New subscriber btw! 🙂
Hello Jamie, does the person who does the invitation design also typically do the table numbers and name cards, etc?
I have a question. If this type of intricate and long question is something you charge for, I totally understand. Anyway, here is my predicament. My fiancé is from Ukraine, no green card, but has a SSN and everything. His original document with his Work Authorization Card says “does not guarantee re entry into the US.”
I want to have both our families present, but most of his family and friends don’t have Visas for the US, and it’s a quite expensive and lengthy process to obtain.
What did you use to curl your hair in this video? It's gorgeous!
I have been binge watching and a new subbie hi! I do have a question that maybe you have answered. If you have friends or family that are professional and you would want to hire them is that rude that you would want them to work the wedding or should you stick to just having them attend
6 months! September 21st 2019
We have the same wedding date!!! 🙂
6 months and only just started planning today (been engaged for a year haha)
I'm legit worried I'm planning too far in advance lol Wedding is 16 months away
“Groomsmen have a hard time ordering thinngs on time” Girl, my entire wedding party told me a solid year in advance that they were all good buying and ordering their own attire and despite me getting on them about ordering them ONE of the bride people has their stuff because he’s wearing his dress blues. Love them to death, but idk how to manage these people! Wedding is a month out 😫 so now I gotta scrounge up the funds to order the attire myself and pray it gets here on time.
I just love your videos ❤️
Also.. what are your thoughts on using family or friends as vendors? I'd feel bad about making them work at my wedding.. but I have some cousins who are DJs and I know they're amazing. They've already told me they would do my wedding and I know they would give me a discount, and they're insisting, so I'm torn. I also know from personal experience that it can be tough working with family 😣
Getting married on June 20, 2020
Janka Wintels same! 💕
Keep it up :-)
Vanessa Roberson we are September 26,2020
That's awesome!!
Have you started plans, booking, or starting with guest list, food list, etc??
Vanessa Roberson if you want to start planning I would suggest a picking venue, DJ, and a photographer - get those bigger items out of the way!
Thank you!
