    I'm greasing the wheel bearings on our boat trailer. I'm about to drive to the kids' fishing tournament 150 miles away, but before I do that I want to grease the wheel bearings on the trailer to be on the safe side. It's important to keep a close eye on your wheel bearings. When you're taking the boat out on the water, you're backing it down into the water, wheels are being submerged so there's a chance you can get water in there. We don't want any bearing hubs to get rusted and possibly fail.

    Who ever designed these boat trailers with a grease fitting for the bearings I'd like to buy them a beer ....😁

    Thanks - an often overlooked item maintaining watercraft.

    You should spin tire while doing that. And then check back side of hub to grease that may or may not get past seal. Always better to use a manual grease gun to bro. Ijs

    Thank you for this video. I wasn't exactly sure how to do this or what to look for. Now I'll do my boat and camper.

    I think I'd check the back of the hub to be sure you didn't damage the seal with that pressurized grease gun.

      There is no damage from using a power grease gun with this design. If you over pressure a buddy bearing system you might push grease out the back seal and cause damage..

    How often should one being doing this?

      The Ranger owners manual officially says to grease the hubs at regular intervals based upon the extent of usage and before storage. Basically, it depends on how much you use your boat. I grease mine after 3 trips to a nearby lake or if it’s a long trip over 100 miles, I’ll grease them before the trip

      Wow! We had our boat 35 years, did it more frequently in the beginning but the last 15 years I don't believe we did it at all! And we probably put in the lake 10 times a year... Never had any issues. That's just crazy to do it after every three trips wow...

    Does anyone show a hub that requires a needle attachment to get the grease in?

    What about the bearings on the back side of the wheel? The inner bearing.

    • @ProWrenching
      @ProWrenching  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That axle has a channel that goes from the grease zert through the axle shaft to grease the front and the back bearing

  • @brod12313
    @brod12313 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Omg, spin the wheel while doing that

    • @ProWrenching
      @ProWrenching  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no need to spin the wheel just to grease it.

    • @afrojojo9475

      You should rotate wheel when greasing

    bearing buddy DO NOT get ample grease to the inner bearing!

    • @ProWrenching
      @ProWrenching  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is not a bearing buddy. there is a grease zert in the axel. The axel on these trailers are drilled to deliver grease to inner and outer bearings.

    Grease them once,a year

  • @kcoutdoorsmissouri4052
    @kcoutdoorsmissouri4052 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How not to. All your doing is creating a seal this doesn't lube your bearings that's not the purpose of bearing buddies

    • @ProWrenching
      @ProWrenching  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These aren’t bearing buddies. There is a grease-cert in the end of the axle shaft that leads to a hole on the axle shaft that actually greases the bearings. This is an old style Ranger trailer and that’s how they were made. I do have another video I made later that does show installation of a buddy bearing.

      @ProWrenching ya my trailer has greasable spindles as well but I don't use the feature. Just pack like normal and top it with a bearing buddy but I repack as needed. Today was that day
