SUPER COOL/ Fake Rock/ Build It

  • We recently had our septic tank pumped which left our access point or manhole cover exposed. We decided to cover it with a fake rock so we did not have to dig it out again and plan to do some extra landscaping in the next few years. After researching several different options we found purchasing a fake rock would be a little pricey and ended up making our own. This was our first time working with concrete and look forward to working with it more in upcoming projects.

    If someone hasn’t told you already once you get it mostly smooth use plastic bag to make impressions on the outside it makes great realistic impressions of real rock

      @@MrandMrsAceofTrades I think your rock looks GREAT! About how many cans of spray foam did you use?

    • @MrandMrsAceofTrades
      @MrandMrsAceofTrades  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@casual454t1 We used about two cans of the spray foam insulation. The plastic bottles actually fill most of the inside space. Thank you for your question and watching our videos.

    If you add reinforcement fiber it becomes very very strong and self supporting. Great idea to use expanding foam as the form. Cement and soft sand on a ratio of 1/3 and add some colour dyes. Great job.

    I was a cement sculptor at Disneyland and Disney's Califorinia Adventure and we used "Specmix" it comes in 97lb sacks and is already mixed with aggraget and lime so all you have to do is mix and apply, we used a scratch coat then the next day shot it on thick and let it take up a while then carved it and textured it!

    Just put portland over the top. Use a bonding primer if you want. Use a concrete stain/dye and pour the liquid into the mix and make it colored. Red and black is cool and making it layerwd is awesome. Plus glazing it at the end but with a matte gloss or flat is best. You can make theae better by making them round and then putting them into the ground.

    • @MrandMrsAceofTrades
      @MrandMrsAceofTrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! Thanks. The foam and the plastic bottles are permanent fixtures of the "rock." The foam and bottles are giving it a solid interior structure. It is still going strong after direct sunlight in the middle of the summer, snow and torrential wind and rain.

    You did a GREAT JOB with the footage and narrative. Yet your rock looks more like an UFO or a place where a big dog has recently left a big pile of poop on your straw/lawn. Painting needs contrasting colors and the shape sharper edges and variety. Deep scratches, more angles and slopes. (10:48) Nature is not as "regular" as you made it look. Again: for the first time - really great work.

    May i know what is the mixes ratio of the cement? thank you

    • @MrandMrsAceofTrades
      @MrandMrsAceofTrades  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your question. The ratio is about 1.5 quarts of water for each 40lb bag, but we mixed it slowly until we found the consistency we needed to mold and sculpt with it.
