I love your funky cover, Robyn. I remember being surprised that this tune has been around since the 50's, since I was more familiar with the They Might be Giants version.
Fun fact: the song was written in 1953, exactly 500 years after Constantinople fell and became Istanbul in 1453. What's even funnier, despite this, a lot of Europeans kept calling it Constantinople well into the XXth century, so at some point it almost felt like a city with 2 names: eastern and western one.
@@StacyDarc There's a video somewhere on YT, with your dad's song and belly dancers. It's an amazing combo. Personally, belly dancers make me laugh almost hysterically (I find them extremely comedic).
This one seems right up your alley. A classic, only known by the real aficionados, sung and played with the brille and schwung it deserves. Thank you for bringing it back.
Robyn i am so infatuated with you you are so cute while you sing you make the best looks and movments. You are truly an amazing singer im going to try to catch you live wow
My parents probably danced to the Four Lads original - they married in 1955. Leave it to you to pluck a tune from obscurity and make it your own. And you probably speak Turkish. Great job! Your players, as always, shine in their support of your unique take. Special props to Adi - not easy to stand by the bass in Georgia's shoes 😉
Hi Robyn ! I always liked this song very much, and you made it even better. It's cruising and swinging, and I could hear it all day. Thank you very much !
I was listening to this in 2023, and then I traveled back in time to the 1950s! Also, They Might Be Giants made a whole album of science-themed songs, it'd be the coolest thing if you covered those!
I have no idea what the writers of the song were thinking, but you sometimes hear Turks say Istanbul, not Constaniople, and it's not even gaslighting, it's just "we took your city, in your face." This song is fun but yes it reminds me of pretty ugly stuff.
The name İstanbul (Turkish pronunciation: [isˈtanbuɫ], colloquial Turkish pronunciation: [ɯsˈtambuɫ]) is commonly held to derive from the Medieval Greek phrase "εἰς τὴν Πόλιν" (pronounced Greek pronunciation: [is tim ˈbolin]), which means "to the city" and is how Constantinople was referred to by the local Greeks.
BTW@-RobynAdeleAnderson your performance is astonishing :) Please make some also controversial text song for our country name North Macedonia in ur jazzy style which will also upsetting Greeks and many other here on Balkan and wider ... :)

If you think that’s surprising, it was written as a response to a song written in the 1920s called C-O-N-s-t-a-n-o-p-l-e
My dad was in The Four Lads, who had the original hit with this song. Great Job!
@@StacyDarc There's a video somewhere on YT, with your dad's song and belly dancers. It's an amazing combo. Personally, belly dancers make me laugh almost hysterically (I find them extremely comedic).
My Dad was a member of The Four Lads for nearly 20 years. You nailed it!
wow, I mean,....she is great. Never heard of this lady before....good singer!
This one seems right up your alley. A classic, only known by the real aficionados, sung and played with the brille and schwung it deserves. Thank you for bringing it back.

I feel like tempo matters a lot, and this faster tempo makes it an easier song to dance with a partner to.
İ love it ❤

Чувак , гитарист , очень прикольный. Все молодцы.
Я дополню, такие вещи, тем более , как , "Истамбул -Константинополь в СССР к сожалению были под запретом, да и много других дел .
@@bengan77uralov89 It's not really a modern rock & roll song - or did the USSR only allow classical music to be played?

Awesome cover! Also just realized how the lyrics are basically mega gaslighting a conquest.

Much better than Bette Midler's take. Thank you!!!
