    There actually is some blood in the movie where Arnie goes through the shield and takes out the big glass-shared from his body and it’s covered in blood and there is some blood on his face, clothing and around him as he’s removing it.

    this absolutely does NOT need a remake. there is a lot different from the book, but it works in the basics solidly for something that fits the pacing of the movie.

    Tho not in John Carpenter's top 5 for US here in this house, it is usually 6th or 7th on our list and a total gem for most horror fans. It just saddens me that so many great films of all time from the 30's 40's 50's 60's and so forth get lost by the teens and 20 somethings who equate older films for boring or lame before watching them.

    Great review, guys. Love this movie SO much. As a car guy, I'm not a fan of the thought of remaking this film. Finding enough Furys (Furies?) back in the early 80's that could be wrecked and crashed for this film was problematic, so I'm sure it would be close to impossible now. And that means they'd try to do it with CGI ... which sends chills down my spine. And not in a good way. Maybe a sequel? But not having the same car would seem kind of pointless. So . . . I think this film is perfect for what it is, flaws and all, and I think it's fine if this is all we get! It's a classic and I never tire of it.

    • @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
      @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I couldn't agree more. There are only one or two Furies left and they are cherry and basically priceless. Likewise the smaller and smaller reserve for 50's era cars generally. Even classics from the 80s like the Datsun Z cars are becoming modern classics that are getting hard to find. Remaking this film would be an abomination. It was a special film from a special time from the high-water mark of American culture. We are clearly in decline now.

    Love Christine. Such a well-made movie about such a ridiculous concept. Of course it played into the early 80's thing for 50's Americana/nostalgia, which made it seem really cool at the time. Christine is also literally the origin of the phrase "you can't polish a turd". I always felt a little sorry for Darnell - he had helped Arnie/Christine out, and didn't deserve her wrath.

The radio plays 'Pledging My Love' by Johnny Ace as the lights come back on. This is Christine swearing to forever love Arnie for the rest of her days before trying to kill the two protagonists. th-cam.com/video/gt6_2qd75F8/w-d-xo.html

    I don't think they could remake this film. It's a one-of-a-kind classic. Nevermind the fact that there's only one or two 58 Plymouth's left now and no one would want to wreck them no matter how much they were offered. Also it would simply be sacrilege to destroy a classic car at this point. In the 80' classic cars you could fix up were a dime a dozen (not the Plymouth exactly but generally) but today they are all getting harder and harder to find. Even 80's era classics like the Datsun Z cars are becoming rare in their own right.
    Also Carpenter had a sensibility that can't be copied. Today's directors have lost the craft of true filmmaking, as is evident in all the Carrie remakes. They all suck.
    Btw, I saw this film when I was 13 in the theater and unless I snuck into an R rated film, it must have been rated PG. I don't recall sneaking in.

    That is a beautiful & unique looking car people are going to hate me for this but I think there should be a sequel to Christine not a reboot Christine is able to partially restore herself & she is found by a father who is looking buy a birthday present for his daughter. His daughter is a gifted mechanic who was taught by either her grandfather or uncle the girl character like Arney is a nerd but she is also a shy awkward girl who changes once she fixes up Christine. And no I'm not being a feminist I just wanted to see what would happen with a girl coming in contact with Christine but if they want to have another guy as the main lead I'm cool with that too.

    I always thought Darnell was being somewhat controlled by Christine. Why else would he sit in a burnt out car, and smile like he's sitting in a Ferrari?
    Regarding a remake, I think the only thing that would work is to do what they did with The Thing and make a prequel, or another film set in the 1980s with new characters and the same car. Setting it in modern day and "recasting" Christine as a more modern car would be a huge mistake. First off, no car from the 90s or 2000s is both considered a classic, and looks both beautiful and frightening as the '57 Fury. Second, finding a 20 year old car that runs today isn't nearly as much of a novelty as a 50s car in the late 70s. Having grown up in the 80s, at the time the 50s felt like it existed in another, more ideal world. Kids then were fascinated by the 50s. Nobody is fascinated by the 00s.

    I would like to see a reboot of this movie but after thinking about it not to mention seeing the adaptations of Carrie Hollywood should just leave Christine alone. If they did a modern version or reboot of Christine they wouldn't do it justice this is a classic & should just be left alone. Or they could do a sequel to Christine it takes place 30 years later after Arney's death Lee & Dennis have gone their separate ways & moved on with their lives but are brought back together when they get word of the murderous car that killed their friend years ago has found another victim. This time the victim is a girl who like Arney is picked on at school, has shitty parents & is a nerd like Arney only her name is Ashley.

I saw the remake of "Carrie" at a friend's house (I didn't even know that they had remade it) and I was cringing the entire time. Remakes are a fucking plague and should be wiped the fuck out. Arnie and Christine feed off each other, her demonic power makes him confident and cool and his love makes her more powerful so she can do things like fixing herself. The other owners Christine probably just killed because she didn't like them and they didn't like her.

    • @catspaw3092
      @catspaw3092 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good point Christine saw something special in Arnie when he first saw her he was transfixed she saw how he looked at her & he took great pride & love to fix her up to make her look new again she knew Arnie was the one. All her other owners just didn't do it for her.

      Well worth watching. It’s an underrated gem. The combination of Carpenter’s direction and King’s storytelling (albeit altered and cut down somewhat in the script) is a delicious cocktail that should have been replicated a few more times frankly.
