Criminally underrated channel. Honestly mad at TH-cam algorithm. They need to recommend smaller channels more.

I don't understand how a quality channel like this one doesn't do much better. They've been at 20K subscribers for several years.

Watched this review 9 years ago, watching it again now. Good to see you guys never change your format, it works and is consistent. Great job Gary and Ian. Pound for pound one of the best soundtracks in any film.

If you look closely at the wide shot when the drawbridge is opening on its own you'll see a boat on the river, in the boat are the members of AC/DC making a cameo appearance.

I'm so glad you mentioned the part about the Guy in the Green t-shirt throwing the doors open and yelling "What the Fuck is goin on!" that part always made me laugh.

The kid being steamrolled freaked me out when I first saw this. Little kids in most 80's horror movies were safe, so to see a kid my own age killed in such a gruesome fashion made it very hard to sleep that night.

That's one reason why I became a truck driver. Plus, living in North Carolina, I always start smile any time I have to deliver in Wilmington, and get to drive my truck over that drawbridge. It just makes me giggle.

At 20:50 You ask about why certain things come to live and others don't? Rewind back to the scene of Deke on his bike. The radio says "Somethings are wakening up faster than others."

I think the reason for the cars not attacking humans was that they were loyal to humans for some odd reason.

Nope, the driving school car killed people. Likely the possessing influence chose trucks over cars for sheer mass and power.

One humorous detail they left out is how when Deke's riding down the road the lawn sprinklers come on behind him, and then turn off just before he turns to look behind him.

I was maybe 13 when I first saw this movie in theatres. At the time, I was watching with my mother and her husband. From the Marquee shot on, I was laughing almost to tears. I thought it was just about the funnest movie I had ever seen. My mom got so mad at me for laughing at the suffering of others I thought I was going to get grounded.
I stopped watching movies like that with my parents after that.
Great review. You picked out all of the classic moments and echoed my thoughts exactly.

Bubba. It's the southern version of nicknames like Buddy, Huy, or Mate. I lived an hour north of Wilmington for a few years, and ha e been stuck with Bubba as a nickname ever since.
The accent, that is the coastal North Carolina accent, from New Bern, to South Carolina. It took me years to drop mine, when we moved to NY, and it still pops up now, 30 years later.
On the weapons, first, NFA weapons are legal to own in NC, including full autos. Second, Wilmington is between Camp Lejuene to the north, and Fort Bragg to the west. Certain supply sergeants "lose" surplus items, and ordinance all the time, and turn a blind eye, for the right price. Odds are, that's how Hendershot got the arsenal.
On the island, I lived in Hubert, between Wilmington and Jacksonville, along highway 17 and 24. There were at least 3 islands, including Bear island, within an hour by boat, that were no access islands, when it came to motor vehicles. A couple hours up the coast, to the outer banks, and you can reach them by boat, easily. Bear was less than an hour from me, including the ferry ride out.
Now for laughs, Dino Delaurentis picked the wrong Estevez brother. Just imagine the cost of coke, had Emilio's brother Carlos been there! Charlie Sheen vs Stephen King, in a coke off! That would have been epic!
King's original choice.for Billy? Bruce Springsteen.

heh you should watch "Trucks" another Stephen King adaptation of the short story of the same name. It's like Maximum Overdrive, but made for TV on a super low budget. You get to see a mailman get killed by a small RC truck. Literally, knocked down onto his back and then his head getting repeatedly bashed and mauled by this little RC truck. Stupidest death ever.

I made the mistake of seeing, back in the summer of 1986 as a teen in Los Angeles, The Fly then Aliens then MO. After the first two brilliant Sci Fi films which kept you tense and on the edge of your seat, I was treated to one big joke. MO is more cheese than scream. Today, I equate it to something like Starcarsh. A goofy, laughable film with zero logic. I am curious of what you guys think of the other two possessed car films- 1977's The Car (Jaws on wheels) and 1983's Christine (Driving Ms. Damien) as comparison to each other. Anyway, keep up the good work/fun.

It might be a daft, shlock story, but for a directorial depute the film was competently shot and well directed.
Its a shame King never directed again.

how does a vending machine /shoot cans out/ how does a knife /move/ without someone holding it, none of it makes any sense if you think about it at all, except maybe the comets tail is a psychokinetic space entity, but then the ending is like the russians shot down a UFO herr derr. COCAINE is a helluva drug. But if you do not think about it the movie is awesome. But yes because there is no logical consistency or rules to this situation its just whatever made the scene cool at the time for Stephen, it's a bad film, it's just a really really sweet one if you're into that sort of thing.
