Weird Al's 'Word Crimes' parody of 'Blurred Lines' is great, but for a genuinely mind-blowing demonstration of his talent, you have GOT to check out his original track 'Hardware Store'.
What is impressive is his parody of Bob Dylan's " Subterranean Homesick Blues" called "Bob" . It is hard enough to write songs but Weird Al writes a song where the lyrics read the same backwards and forwards on the cue cards. Most people do not even realize he is actually doing this.
@@marybloody615 True. I always forget about it, but "Bob" is absolutely BONKERS for how difficult it must have been to pull off from a songwriting perspective.
The best thing about this song is that the movie had not been released yet. It was written based on spoiler posted on the internet. A few minor tweaks were made after he viewed a charity pre-screening of the film.
@@Tijuanabill The lyrics aren't nonsensical, just abstract. The "jester" is Bob Dylan, the girl who sang the blues is Janice Joplin, etc. Sorry I'm being a bit pedantic your point still stands.

Weird al is the greatest musical talent of our generation. What other performer can stretch not only to write and sing a song in as many genres (rock rap country classic polka ect), but have great songs and perform them really well.
Al met James Brown when they were doing a celebrity episode of Wheel of Fortune. James called him up after and asked him to parody one of his songs. Later, James gave him full use of his stage, band, and crew where he was doing a residency in Las Vegas, plus he coached him in some of his signature dance moves.
I've never seen this Weird Al "The Saga Begins", and I'm a lifelong huge Star Wars fan. Loved this!! Fun seeing Krizz with BP. We get to hang out with you guys. 😅May the Force be with you....always. ⚔😁
The cool thing abou Weird Al is that my younger brother is a cop in down town Phoenix, and he was standing on the corner, and Al approached him for directions and my brother gave him the best directions he could give him, and Al was very thankful for the directions.
I love my Weird Al... and now you need to get some Ray Stevens. He's still releasing music and performing at 85. Black Pegasus just reacted to "The Mississippi Squirrel Revival," but you guys need to react to "The Streak" together. And Ray is always good for a pick me up when you're feeling down. His serious music is as much of a feel-good sound as is his comedy.
You mentioned that you weren't really familiar with "American Pie" (The Day the Music Died) which was the Don McLean song this one parodied, you should! You would be impressed with the writing and the way McLean told his story exclusively through metaphors. This might be one you want to do a little reading before hand so some of the symbolism and metaphors make sense - you won't really lose out on the enjoyment of the song if you do some light research ahead of time...
If you want to see a great video, the town of Grand rapids Michigan got together and put together a running sing-along to the entire song. And practically the entire city contributed
One thing to consider beyond how creative and entertaining Weird Al is, just imagine how good the touring band would have to be to play all the dif styles and genre's Weird Al covers in all his songs. Weird Al did tours with pretty big crowds and they played many of his songs live.
One More Minute - Weird Al. BP and Krizz, very confident both of you will enjoy hearing the best breakup song ever. It’s a weird Al original song sung in 50s doo-wop style but recorded in the 80s. Genius lyrics and so Weird Al humor funny. Love to see you react to this classic!
Trapped in the drive through is parody to Stuck in the closet ( a few unexpected twists in that one) but even if you never heard the original, it's still funny on its own and definitely worth a watch
What has gotten lost with time is that this was released before The Phantom Menace from only internet leaks. The leaks proved accurate so this is the entire plot of Ep1 The Phantom Menace. So Al not only wrote a parody to a classic song that also told a story in American Pie, but also nailed the plot of an unreleased movie.
Not quite. It was _written_ before The Phantom Menace was released. I don't know if he ever intended to release the song before the movie, but Lucasfilm contacted him anyway to ask him not to release the song until at least a few weeks after the movie's premier, and Al was more than happy to accommodate. no its called American Pie. Weird Al wrote the parody before the movie released. He pieced the story together from various star wars sites. When he attended the premiere, he didnt have to change much of the lyric. Don McClean has said he will sometimes sing this version in concert.
Funny story. The lead singer Don mclean sang saga begins for his kids as a good night. Next day at the concert he gets ready to sing American pie. Starts singing saga begins, stops and realizes wrong song, but the crowd was already in the Grove. And Don said you know what we'll finish it.
Not only did Al write this song, he wrote it based on spoilers before Episode 1 released. He’s sick. Every one of his albums has a qualified banger or two (or more), and every track is worth a listen, at least once. Even the stupidest ones (Weasel Stomping Day, My Pancreas) are super catchy.
@spddiesel And my pancreas is one of my favorites. You know it attracts every other pancreas with a force (with a force) proportional to the product of their masses? And inversely proportional to the distance between them? Still his stupidest songs, imo, but still great in their own weird way.
Yeah, Weird Al is a very skilled singer for someone most well-known for being a parody srtist, but while I think he's gotten decently skilled with a couple of different instruments, the one he started with and I think still prefers always leaves me a little bit in awe both in how odd it is and honestly how it fits him - The Accordion.
