    Brother, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience. I'm both enjoying and appreciating the education before making the switch to deck work. God Bless

    Thank you for being considerate to other drivers. Every time I have a flatbed in front of me the dude waits until the coil is on the hook to start getting his stuff set up. Then once it's on the trailer makes the slow walk up to get a chain. Then makes the slow walk up to get another chain. Then makes the slow walk up to get a binder. Then makes the slow walk up to unstrap the tarp he knew he was going to need for the last two hours while he was waiting for a door. Then decides he going to spend the next two hours chaining and tarping inside when it's 75 and sunny outside. That's why local/regional guys with conestogas hate flatbeds.

    one more question, why do u have to alternate binders? ive never done it and never had any issues?

    • @sturgelltruckingllc4074
      @sturgelltruckingllc4074  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s not a legal requirement, but when pulling everything to one side, using the anchor points on the edge of the trailer it actually puts a twist in the trailer, increasing the likelihood of a rollover.
      It’s not like the strap rollers all on one side that pull down and under (which doesn’t put flex on the trailer) with chains and binders securing to the anchor points on the edge of the trailer, you’re actually Twisting the trailer which in and of itself self is not good, but it also makes a roll over to whichever side you pull too much more likely

      @@sturgelltruckingllc4074 ok good shit great info, ay u helped me twice. i always threw tha binders on one side cuz its just easier to walk down tha one side to checc em lol

      Ya same here with the binders. I always put them on one side but we use J hooks to secure. Not sure if that is the reason we don't alternate or not.

      @@412hwc Ya my company won't let us secure by wrapping the chain around the inside of the rub rail. Whatever the term is for that. Today was the 1st time I couldn't use the j hooks and had to go in between the rub rails with the chain on some light a/c units. But they would never allow it on a coil.

    Hey idk if I ever asked you this before but what size coil bag is that ?

    • @sturgelltruckingllc4074
      @sturgelltruckingllc4074  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really don’t know, but it’s big enough to do any coil I could ever haul and even two smaller coils. I got it at tri city canvas in Granite city, Illinois.

    I was watching a video from Ian someone, Melton driver. Was saying they don’t let them tie down tarps with bungees, have to use rope. Seems odd, especially for Melton.

  • @412hwc

    i like pb blaster better tbh, but why you got the rubber underneath the coil raccs? ive always put them inside and the coil sets directly on them...am i wrong?

    • @sturgelltruckingllc4074
      @sturgelltruckingllc4074  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They work like a traction mats and keep the coil racks and coil from sliding on the deck, metal to metal slides easier than it does when you have a piece of rubber in between it.
      I have a rubber mats down on the wood as well for finished unwrapped coils, but rough or wrapped coils it’s not necessary

I don’t watch many. I’m older then you. So your ideas are sort of the same as mine. So many trucking tubers ain’t worth watching. Take care. Keep the videos coming.

    If I recall correctly, indirect securement should be half the weight of the load in each direction forward and back, unfortunately the weakest link in my case is the Transcraft/Benson trailer which has a WLL of only 5,020 lbs per each spool/pocket and no WLL for doubling them up. For that 40,800 lb coil I would need a whopping NINE chains. The biggest one I've ever hauled was 47,600 which required every chain I carry (10)

    • @sturgelltruckingllc4074
      @sturgelltruckingllc4074  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You only need securement for 50% of your cargo weight, on your trailer…. So if you wrap the pocket (not hook) with the chain it should be good for 5000- 5500 pounds worth of working load limit ( should be a tag somewhere on the trailer from the manufacture for working load limits at all securement points, if not, you can usually find it with an Internet search pretty quickly by putting in trailer make model and year) so that one chain would be worth 10,000 to 11,000 pounds worth of cargo, providing that the chain is the correct grade and size and rated for that weight or more, same thing with the binder, if all those requirements are meet
      You would only have needed five chains for the 47,600lb coil you mentioned, if you double spooled the chain, the chain is rated at more working load limit normally around 6,500lbs (13,000lbs of cargo) for most trailers… I know I need to do a video on all this and I will get to it as soon as I can. Thanks for the comment and have a blessed day.
