Letterman had phases during his show. the “Asshole” phase is directly linked to Cher calling him an asshole and thus the asshole phase. If you were a true letterman phase you would know that.

@@siggylloyd3566 I didn’t say anything about celebrities at all. you pulled that trigger way too fast. He was mean to young female actresses throughout the whole show that doesn’t need a phase. the asshole phase has more to do with… here’s some examples….
      1. Fucking with the audio during Sammy Davis Jrs live performances. Linda Rondstat too.
      2. Peer pressuring Teri Garr to take a shower on live TV
      3. Not playing straight man to Don Rickles and letting his joke fall flat because Rickles never introduced him Sinatra despite the fact that they shared the same escort.
      4. Paul Schafer throwing shade passive aggressively by playing certain songs for certain guests.
these are examples of the asshole phase. and there’s nothing wrong with any of this (my favorite era) but you better come correct before you mark me as a pleb. IM DIE HARD TEAM LETTERMAN. You skid.

Ebert revealed in his book "Life Itself" that Dave requested a private meeting with both them before a particular taping only to ask them, in earnest, if they could do something to patch up his severed professional relationship with Winfrey. He was very insecure about it. Although Roger dated Oprah a couple of times in the mid-80s, S&E didn't know her well enough to be able to do anything.

I had always genuinely enjoyed watching Siskel & Ebert's movie reviews complete with their humor, wit and obvious intelligence. But I am so disappointed in Siskel's constant weight jokes at Ebert's expense. The man is a Yale graduate yet he constanty and annoyingly swings for this low-hanging fruit, as it were. Where is the challenge in making fun of someone's physical appearance? And why is it with every appearance on Dave's show - with Dave guilty of the same cheap shots? I can't even imagine how anyone must feel bearing the brunt of repeat personal attacks like this and having to pretend to have good humor about it. We all are who we are.

Dave said he had Gene at 210, leaving 250 for Roger. He underestimated both, but more so Gene than Roger.
I think the actuals were something like Gene 230 and Roger 260 = 490.

They often disagreed with the Academy and chose films they wished or should win.
